#1 of Shadow of Joy

A sharp jab from an orc's elbow was the first greeting Shadowblood had to welcome him to Brewfest. The young blood elf opened his mouth to shout a complaint, but the offending orc had already disappeared into the crowd. Shadow tried to edge closer to the center, but there were so many people in Durotar that movement was nearly impossible.

As Shadow inched through the crowd, the atmosphere of the festival became apparent. The rogue looked around at distorted and impatient faces as the stench of alcohol and vomit assaulted his nostrils. There were trolls, tauren, orcs, and zombies, in all states of drunken stupor. Some had joy across their faces, others nausea, and even more had passed out where they stood, having no room to lie down.

Finally, the elf broke to the front of the crowd. On the raised platform in front of him stood Vol'Jin, the leader of the darkspear trolls, reciting a speech that could not be heard above the cheering of the crowd. Shadow watched as Vol'Jin raised a hammer and brought it down on the tap of a giant keg. The rogue didn't have time to think, didn't have time to move, and realized too late that the keg was pointed directly at him. The crowd parted and Shadowblood took the full blast of a tidal wave of beer.

"You alright?"

Words reverberated in the inky blackness.

"Hey dere, wake up, mon. Ya been knocked cold as leftover mojo"

Shadowblood rubbed his throbbing head and opened his eyes. His vision was still fuzzy, but he could make out a blue and purple figure standing over him. A blue hand extended into his field of view and he grabbed it. A dizzying sensation overcame the rogue as he was hoisted upright, but a gentle arm around his back kept him from falling back over.

"I'm Joyuese, what be your name?"

The elf choked out the word "Shadowblood." His vision was clearing now, and he could see the figure more clearly. Propping him up was a blue skinned troll shaman, her hair done in an elegant purple Mohawk with braids coming down over her shoulders. Joyuese was dressed in purple deviant scales and had, wedged between her breasts, a mostly full bottle of vodka.

"Hey, my eyes be up here!" Startled at how fast Joy had noticed his stare, Shadow fumbled for the words that would justify his peek.

"I- I just haven't seen a pretty troll before."

The shaman squeezed the elf tightly as he made a noise like a suffocating animal. "aww. You're a sweetie."

*********

The most painful headache pierced Shadowblood's brain as he awoke. Splinters of fragmented memories tried to knit themselves together as the searing pain unwove them again. One of his arms was numb, like he was sleeping on it, but he was lying on his back. He lifted it and plopped it back down to regain feeling. He crumpled his forehead and clenched his eyes closed from the pain. "Good morning, sweetheart." A voice, whispered into his ear, shook him from his waking state. Shadow forced his eyes open to a view of a completely naked Joyuese on all fours on top of him, swaying in a very suggestive manner.

"What the fuck?" He scrambled backwards in surprise and hit his head against something hard. He grunted in pain as he pushed himself upright and put a hand to his head. The troll was knocked backwards by his movement. She attempted to stabilize herself and succeeded just enough to land sitting upright, half a labia spread around her heel. She looked down, slightly embarrassed. "Sorry. I didn't mean ta startle ya."

Shadowblood rubbed his throbbing forehead and cracked a smile. "It's okay. Its not every day I get to wake up with a beautiful girl." He blinked for a second "You're that troll I met at brewfest. Joyuese?"

The shaman lifted her head and returned the smile. "dat's me."

Shadowblood took a moment to take in his surroundings. He was inside a totemic bubble. His clothes were still on, while Joy's were in a pile on the dirt next to an empty bottle of vodka.

Joyuese cocked her head as she watched him. Uneasily she uttered "Listen, about last night..." Her voice trailed off, soon to be replaced by Shadow's.

"uggh... my head hurts."

Joyuese slowly followed Shadow's gaze to her empty vodka bottle, and her eyes widened in shock. She quickly snatched the bottle and, turning it upside down, the tiniest droplet dripped upon the dirt. Joy glared at Shadowblood and asked "How much did you drink?"

Shadow moved his hand from his forehead and into his hair as he shrugged. "Sorry."

"Sorry? This is pure vodka! Youre lucky youre not dead!"

Joyuese scrambled across the ground and plucked one of her totems from the ground. As the shield wavered, she called upon the energy in the totem and a clear liquid filled the empty bottle in her hand. She gently replaced the totem and made her way back to Shadowblood, thrusting the bottle into his hands.

"Here, drink this."

"What? I can't d..."

"It's water."

Shadow looked at Joyuese, then down at the bottle. He couldn't imagine how his headache could get any worse, so he shrugged and lifted the bottle to his lips. As he drank, Joyuese watched. As he put the bottle down, she gained the strength to ask him the question that was on her mind. "Shadow, do you remember anything about last night?"

Shadowblood closed his eyes and chuckled. "Let's just say it's a little fuzzy."
