Chapter 12 - Understanding

Location: Unknown

There was a bright light that shone directly in Eclypse's face as he looked up. He appeared to be laying face up directly into the light. It was a hugely bright white light, almost burning hot as if he was looking directly into a star.

All around him he could hear distant whispering, which he just could not make out. His eyes fluttered in the devastating light. He tried to move but found himself unable to even move the slightest digit on his finger. His ears were pierced by this high-pitching sound.

The whispering had somehow become a little louder as he laid there paralysed wondering if he had died. He remembered that he had fallen off Mount Everonth but not much more after that. He did not find this afterlife promising, after all, where were all the naked girls, surely his priests had not been lying to him?

He felt down below him, just enough moment to turn his hand but not much more then that. As if like lightening, a massive pain shot through his arm and almost made him yell out but he managed to keep silent as he realised that he was actually lying on cold metal.

The whispering suddenly increased in volume, words become normal speech as he began to comprehend them. It was the voice of two females talking over him, however he could not see them from the light that was so brightly shining in his eyes.

"His synapses in his left arm have fired!" said one the female voices. It sounded powerful and had a strong masculine quality to it but he could tell that it was definitely female. However he had never heard anything like it, he could not pinpoint where the voice was coming from, almost as if it was inside his head.

"He seems to be regaining consciousness..." continued the voice, it was almost soothing to him, like a new velvet blanket, he now did not feel so lonely.

"If he regains full motor-control while we are proceeding, the shock could kill him. Up the Neuro-drain to 55ccs". Called another female voice, this one was not so masculine but was actually quite strong and eloquent.

Eclypse felt almost a sense of relief wash over him as he relaxed, feeling some strange field around him that made him incredibly tired, the white light becoming a shade of light blue which could have been his eyes playing tricks on him. At least he was with some kind of medical professionals, maybe even in a hospital? He allowed himself to drift on the soothing waves of energy that slowly and calmly sent him back into the peaceful sleep he had been experiencing before he awoke.

* * *

Eclypse sat bolt upright almost immediately in another room. He seemed to be very much alive, sat in some sort of white medical gown which covered his modesty and felt very similar to silk.

The illumination of the room was normal now and he could see that he had been sat over some strange hovering light-source that had been turned down since he had last awoken.

He looked around normally as his heart began to return to a calm, orderly beat. He was in some sort of strange white room. The walls around him were the most magnificent shade of glorious white that made this place look so clean. There was a set of double doors at one side of the room that were closed and seemed to be made of some unusual alloy the shimmered against the light of walls.

Eclypse was sat on a metal bed and as he looked down, he noticed something very odd. The floor of room was about halfway pure glass, this included the walls and ceiling around his bed which seemed out of place as it was made of grey steel. The room was only half "a room" and had seemed to have been extended outwards. But more curious then all this was the massive backdrop of stars that could be seen through the glass.

He looked down, almost in a state of panic to notice that where he was, was suspended above a huge blue and green orb that blotted out all the stars that would have been seen from the glass on the floor too. He had no doubt about it, that orb was Terra and he had somehow found himself in space.

He was still looking down at massive continents of Terran mesmerised that he did not notice that another person had walked through the rippling door, almost like it was a puddle of water.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" said the same strong female voice that had ordered the "Neuro-Drain" whatever that was.

Eclypse looked up, his ears had perked from this break in the silence of the room. This woman was distinctly different from any race he had ever seen before. She seemed to be... fur-less. She had long white hair that descended all the way down her back and sharp blue eyes which seemed to add to her light pink skin and radiant complexion. She wore a gown which was almost transparent to show that she was as correct in physical shape as any Terran woman, he large pink nipples poking slight outwards on her soft and supple breasts.

"That... is?" asked Eclypse, his throat sounded incredibly dry, as if he had not drunk anything for months. He swallowed and then tried to think of what to say, this woman was clearly not of the world he knew, so what would he say to her.

The strange female looked almost puzzled by his response. "That planet, Terra?"

Eclypse nodded, out the six million questions in his mind, he tried to pick the one that sounded less ridiculous. If this truly was an "alien" then he wanted to make a good impression. He felt stupid for mocking all those Terran stories about Alien Abductions, Freya had always believed in them.

"Eh... Who are you?" he asked. Almost tempted to say "Take me to your Leader". He chuckled at the idea in his head, he doubted that he was in any real danger as this woman's demeanour was quite calm but he was still naturally a bit on the defensive side.

The woman stared for a second and then began to speak without moving her lips, somehow she had the ability to direct communicate with Eclypse outside of using her lips. "I am Odin, I lead my people, the Asgard to salvation..."

Eclypse frowned accidentally, "Take me to your leader" was pretty much useless now and he would have loved to have said it. It was strange, he did not feel threatened by Odin at all, he expected little green men, not beautiful almost sexualised woman. "Where am I?" he asked next, growing a little bolder.

"You are onboard the Great Divine, it is a vessel that carries myself and my people. What you see now is only your own interpretation of the Great Divine, even myself has been moulded to please you... I must admit, this shape interests me. We are beings of energy and your perception alters our state."

Eclypse found that incredibly hard to get his head around, was this all his imagination then or was this real. If the Asgard were beings of energy then why would he imagine the leader as a woman that he had never seen before. Was that to do with his belief that aliens would not be covered in fur or animal-like as Terrans were? Did that make them more "Alien" and thus easier to except as Aliens?

"Oh... right" mumbled Eclypse, averting eye contact with the mystical woman who was now staring at him. "Look, I know that you've probably travelled a long way to be here but if you don't mind, I would like to go back to my world as a friend of mine is in serious trouble."

Eclypse climbed to his feet, watching over the woman, he walked straight past Odin and to the strange door that she came out of however there seemed to be no hinges and no way to open it. It seemed like he was trapped.

"We know about your friend, Freya is a member of our race, that is why we brought you here" commanded Odin, perfect serenity in her voice.

Eclypse was dumbfounded; he turned from opening the door. The was not possible, he had known Freya for years and she had never once shown any attributes to change her form or have mystical powers... well, not until recently. "Go on..." he mumbled softly as the Asgard woman turned almost robotically to face him again.

"Freya is an Asgard embryo, her soul was locked away within a girl on Terra. It is how we reproduce and when the host dies, the soul returns to us as a fully fledged Asgard. It was that girl I believe you were protecting. It is a pity that our own creation failed us."

"Wait just a moment!" shouted Eclypse. He looked around, almost trapped like an ironic rat in a maze. "You're kidding right... I know how I am... who my parents are! You have..."

"All your memories were implanted during the cloning process. You are the third Eclypse. You were instructed to protect Freya as her soul matures and develops into an Asgardian woman however you failed to protect her from Ada..."

Eclypse was very confused at the moment, everything he knew, everything that he was so sure about had been swept away. Maybe it had been no coincidence that he felt so close to Freya, maybe these beings had ordered him to protect her. The forth wall in his mind began to crack. He flashed back.

He was in some kind of tube, surrounded by liquid, immersed inside an unknown container unable to see out. It was an awful feeling, like drowning but still with access to air. He felt engulfed by it.

"So... I'm a construct?" he asked looking up, trying not to see the choking memories that were beginning to service.

"Yes. We created a wall inside your mind to prevent you from learning about your cloned existence. We had hoped that you would live out a normal, natural life with Freya and that when she died, her soul would return to us. However the reality is very different and we must directly intervene to prevent terrible actions from occurring."

Eclypse could feel it, the wall was there but tiny cracks were beginning to show with each piece of information that he uncovered about his true self. He remembered, the Eclypse on the world of Silmeria. Hang on... what the hell was Silmeria?

"Who is this "Ada?" asked Eclypse, he was barely able to stand straight from the rush of emotions, thoughts and feelings that seemed to swamp him now.

"Ada is an errant Asgardian. Many moons ago, she was worshipped as a God by the people of Silmeria. She was conflicted, twisted almost and she subdued the people to her will. She used them to build large weapons and gather materials needed to bring back Galladia, her lover and an Asgardian scientist that brought about the destruction of my world and my race."

Eclypse suddenly felt as if the whole wall had shattered within him, he began to remember places and names that he had never been aware of before now. He began to remember Silmeria.

"I recall..." chanted Eclypse, gazing into space as if he had seen a ghost. "Ada forced our people in labour camps. Tom and I, we led a raid but she had already poisoned our world in her experimentation, we finally got to her and were able to subdue her. We designed an orbital prison to keep her from ever escaping because we could not kill her..."

"I see you are beginning to remember... Yes, Ada was successful maintained in that prison for almost two hundred years. She managed to project her soul out into the abyss of space and managed to find the vessel of Freya, she was drawn to it as it already housed an Asgard soul in incubation. Now she is free in that vessel and we must stop her before she frees herself from her prison or it could spell doom for your world and for my race."

Eclypse needed a moment to digest his life being torn up in front of his eyes. He had no idea but suddenly he was remember events and places that he could have sworn were not even from Terra. "What about Freya?" he asked, almost glumly.

"If we can find her and remove Ada's soul, then we can save her." Informed Odin as she stood perfectly still watching Eclypse's every expression.

Eclypse felt like he had found the meaning of life, it was incredible and rare, he actually had a life that meant something, the protection of another and that somehow gave him comfort. He did not trust these "Asgard" and they might have weaved some strange magical spell to make him believe all these things but Odin seemed sincere enough.

"You were killed during your initial encounter with Ada. We resurrected you and reformed your body so that you may complete this task. We will prepare you for the task but you must understand that Freya cannot be killed, this is the first offspring in twenty thousand years and we must protect it if our race is to survive."

Eclypse nodded, so he had been dead but had been mystically resurrected because he had a task to complete. It seemed simple enough but he was still not sure that he fully trusted the Asgard intentions however helping them seemed the best way to get Freya back to him alive.

"I will do what I can... I just... can't live without her."
