Chapter 3: Serah's Gym battle

It is dawn and the first rays of the sun were shining down on the world as Reaon slowly lifted himself up on his side beside his golden mate, he smiled at her as she slept, with a satisfied smile on her muzzle. As they entered the camp Jeanet turn to them and smiled, then she began to get up but winced in pain, the next moment Reaon held her in his arms while he slowly help her down on the chair again with a worried expression. "What has happened Jeanet, why are you in pain," he then looked at the others with anger "why didn't you protect her, how could you let her get hurt!" he growled at them but it died in his throat when Jeanet placed a hand on his furry arm and made him look at her.

Reaon goes over to the other side of the table and sits beside Blaze and they all begin to eat. After eating for a while Serah stops eating and looks at Jeanet. "Where are we going by the way?" she asked and Jeanet stops eat and looked at her.

"We're on our way to a city called Oreburgh to challenge the Gym Leader for a Badge." she closed her eyes for a moment and sighed "it's still a good while away though, and as sore as I'm I can't walk very fast so I'll probably take a day two." Serah looked at her confused.

"Gym Leasder? Badge? what are they?" she asked with her head tilted to the side, Jeanet smiled at her.

"Here there are a few paths a Pokémon trainer can take," she lifts her hand with one finger raised "one a Trainer, battling with Pokémon against wild Pokémons or other Trainers and by getting all eight Badges from a region a Trainer can enter a tournament to show how good you and your Pokémon are," she raised another finger "two a Coordinator, who together with their Pokémons compete Pokémon Contests where it's the beauty of the Pokémon's moves and the way the Pokémon do the move and combine move in spectacular and breathtaking displays," she raise a third finger "third a Breeder, who raise and care for Pokémon to help improve their strength, beauty and other such things," she smiled at her "and of cause they also breed Pokémon to get stronger and better Pokémon to sell to good people who can give them good lives," she then lifts a fourth finger "fourth, Pokémon Ranger, they protect Pokémon and humans help solve problems and such by they are different then the other 3 paths, to become one you need to go to the Academy to study." Jeanet finished and Serah sat still for a while.

"Pokémon Rangers sounds like something from where I come from, not the same but probably close and I guess that you are a Trainer but why do you think it'll take so long to get to this Oreburgh?" Serah asked and looked back at Jeanet.

"Well what was it like where you come from? And the reason why I think it'll take so long is because I can't walk to fast after last night, at least not until my body has healed." Serah nodded.

"That makes sense as for where I come from, I'll tell you when walking, right now I think we should get ready to continue." Serah said and smiled at Jeanet who nodded and they both stood up.

"I may have a solution so we can be in Oreburgh by today." Reaon said as they all stood up to begin to take down the camp, all turned to look at him.

"What do you mean Reaon?" asked Jeanet he just smiled at her.

"It's very simple Jeanet, Blaze can carry you and we can carry your equipment, in that way we should be able to reach Oreburgh Gate in a few hours," he smiled at her "even carrying you and you equipment we can move fast, and for longer, that you can Jeanet." Jeanet looked at him then at Blaze.

"Think you can Blaze?" she asked and he nodded.

"Yes and this way we might reach the Gym in time to challenge the Gym Leader today." Blaze said while packing the camp.

After a few minutes they were ready and Fearel and Darmio carried some of their equipment while Blaze prepared to take Jeanet into his arms but she stopped and turned to Serah "I almost forgot, there is something we should take care of before we go." They all looked at her wondering what she was talking about until they saw her take one of her Pokéballs but Serah just tilted her head and looked at the red and white ball.

"What is that?" she asked while Jeanet walked over to her and held it out to her.

"It'd call a Pokéball, it's used to catch Pokémons in," she then looked into Serah's light blue eyes "I'll like to try and catch you in this, if I can then others can't catch you, and if it doesn't work then we won't have to worry about others catching you and taking you away." Serah thought about it a moment before nodding.

"Okay it sounds like a good idea and you can also hid me in it if the need arises." Jeanet nodded and lightly touched her with the Pokéball and she was pulled into it, it shook for a moment before a *pling* sounded from it, she then released her from the ball and smiled, while Serah looked around.

"That felt a little wired, like my data was sucked into it and I was in a stasis." Serah shook her head and walked over to Reaon and gave his muzzle a lick.

"Good now let's get going." Jeanet said as she went over to Blaze who took her in his arms before they all began to run.

"...And that's how the DigiDestined defeated the evil Malomyotismon and saved the Digital world, as well as their own, and brought peace to the two world, at least for a time." Serah said as she finished telling about one of the bigger battles of her world, all of them awed by her tale.

"That was a very fascinating story," Jeanet said and sighed before looked ahead at the tunnel entrance know as 'Oreburgh Gate' as she lay in Blaze's arms "it almost make me wish that I could go to your world and see it with my own eyes." The other nodded their agreement and Reaon gave Serah a lick on the muzzle, before they all stopped at the entrance of the tunnel and Blaze sat Jeanet down on her own legs again.

After she had regained her footing they all walked into the cave. After a while Blaze asked. "So what are we going to do when we reach Oreburgh, the Gym or the Pokémon Center?" Jeanet smiled at him before looking at the others.

"If we can make it, we'll go to the Gym, also," she turn to Serah "I'll like to have you battle, so I can see what you're cable of," she then smiled "and after seeing how you handled yourself against Reaon I have no doubt that you can handle it." Serah nodded before asking.

"I understand but why do you want me to fight in the Gym instead of against some random person?" Jeanet smiled at her.

"For a few reasons, one, against a Gym Leader I can be sure of certain that if something go wrong the battle will be stopped before you get to damaged, secondly," she turned to look at Reaon giving him a naughty smile before turning back to Serah "you will soon be pregnant and then I can't use you in battles until after you have given birth and thirdly, I want to see how strong you are and this is probably the last chance in a while I'll have." Serah nodded and smiled at her.

Jeanet nodded.

"Okay, Serah I'll return you to your Pokéball when we get close to exit, that why we can surprise the Gym Leader and no one will find out about you, at least till after the Gym battle." Serah nodded her agreement and when they got close she removed herself from Reaon as Jeanet took her Pokéball and returned her to it.

"Come let's go to the Gym." They soon reached the Gym and entered.

"Hello there, are you her to challenge me?" a voice asked and they saw a young man in miner clothes and a red mining helmet and cordovan coloured hair and eyes "My name is Roark and I'm the Gym Leader." Jeanet nodded her head at him and smiled.

"My name if Jeanet and yes I'm her to challenge you if you have time." Roark Smiled back at her.

"Sure, Miss Jeanet I don't have anything to do right now, so follow me" he let them into an arena "if you can beat my three Pokémons then you'll get the Coal Badge, so which of you Pokémons are you going to use?" he asked her as he turn around to her.

"Well, actually I have one I'll like to use against you to test her in battle but I there is one problem." Jeanet said while looking at him.

"So what is that problem?" he asked with an raised eyebrow.

"Well, she's not a Pokémon as far as I have been able to find it," Roark looked shocked at her, she raised her arm to stop him from saying anything "I'll like to test her to see how strong she is and this may be my only chance for a while as she is mated to My Lucario, Reaon, and will soon be with pups, so if you agree to let me use her she'll be the only one I'll use, what do you say." Roark looked at her for a while then a smiled crossed his face.

"You have caught my interest young lady, so ok I agree under those circumstances if you can beat all three of my Pokémons with your whatever it is then you'll get the badge and I'm really interested in seeing this creature," Jeanet nodded and walked over to her side of the Arena while Roark did the same "okay her goes, come out Geodude!" Roark said as he threw a Pokéball and a Geodude appeared on the field.

"Okay now it's time Serah" Jeanet said as she tossed the Pokéball and Serah appeared and went into a battle stand "ready Serah?" Serah nodded never taking her eyes from her opponent.

"Well I agree, I haven't seen any Pokémon like that, this is going to be fun," Roark said as he looked at the golden fox, admiring her, "okay Geodude start out with Rock Throw." The Geodude pulled a rock out of the ground and threw it at Serah.

"Serah avoid and go in for an attack."

Serah jumped to the side before running over to the rock and shouted. "Power Paw" as she pulled her lift paw back as it glowed before smacking it into the Geodude sending it flying back until et reached the wall and fell down to the ground knocked out, leaven a crater in the wall, while Roark just stared at the Geodude before returning it to its Pokéball.

"Not bad Jeanet, she is indeed quite strong," he then took another Pokéball "but let's see if it's strong enough, go Onix!" Roark said as he tossed another Pokéball and a huge stone snake appeared and roared before looking at Serah.

"Okay Serah be ready." Jeanet said as she kept an eye on the Onix.

"Onix, use Screech and then Double-Edge." Onix lets out a loud screech making Serah cover her ears before rushing towards her.

"Serah, Shift now!" Jeanet screamed as Roark's Onix's Double-Edge was about to hit and Serah disappear just as Onix passed where she stood, before stopping "Serah, Diamond Storm!" Jeanet called as Serah appeared above Onix and spread her arms as multiple shards appeared around her before thrusting her arms down towards Onix sending all of the shards down into Onix making it roar in pain "Serah, Power Paw." Serah fell down and hit the Onix on the head before jumping away landing in front of Jeanet just before Onix's head hit the ground knocked out.

"O...Onix," Roark asked surprised that his Onix had been taken out so fast without even really hitting his opponent "I got to admit that she is really good, none of my Pokémon have been able to land a hit, if I have to guess I'll say she is a Fighting type but let's see how you do against my last Pokémon, come out Cranidos" as he toss another Pokéball releasing a dinosaur Pokémon with blue head and back while the rest of the body is grey "okay Cranidos use Zen Headbutt." Cranidos ran towards Serah who prepared to use Power Paw to stop its attack, the two attacks met and Serah was thrown away and hit the wall before falling to the ground, groaning in pain from the impact.

"Serah are you okay, can you still fight?" Jeanet asked her as she slowly got back on her feet.

"Yeah, I'm okay," she then looked at the Cranidos "but that thing has quite a lot of strength and I can't counter in with my Power Paw and it's also very fast." Serah said as she got back into her fighting stands.

"Any ideas Serah?" Jeanet asked as she watched the Cranidos trying to come up with a strategy that could work.

"Not really that hit took a lot out of me, my Power Paw could probably take it out if I could get a clean hit but it's too fast and too strong, I can't take another hit like that," as she said that she saw the Cranidos running towards her with another Zen Headbutt and she used her Shift at the last second to get away but as she reappeared she fell to her knees panting for breath "I can't fight for much longer like this," Serah said as she looked at Jeanet and saw Reaon standing behind her looking worried at her, 'gotta do something I can't let them down, not my mate and not Jeanet.' After a few moments the glow died down and in her hands instead of a Pokéball she was holding a strange device it is compact and fit in her hand, its casing was light green while the rubber grip on the left side was blue while the one on the right was golden, it had a screen and below it, three buttons and an adjustable plate and at the bottom a place where a cable could be inserted, at the top right was another small screen where something that looked like heart patterns were displaced, at the top left was a glowing plate that glowed with a light blue glow, right atop the big screen was a small lens*. As Jeanet hold it the glow in the upper left corner began to grow stronger and letters appeared on the screen 'Digivolution' then a light flew from the glowing area and to Serah and she was enveloped in a cocoon of light and then they heard Serah shout. Roark slowly walked over to his Cranidos. "You did well Cranidos now rest," He said as he returned it to its Pokéball before turning to Jeanet and shook his head before smiling at her "you beat all of my Pokémon so the Coal Badge is yours" he said as he walked over to her and handed her the badge, he then turned to Serah "your name is Serah right?" she nodded "you are really strong whatever you are and I'm quite interested, also it was quite lucky for you that you evolved when you did or I don't think you would have won." Serah nodded and smiled at him.

"You are right Mister Roark," she began but Roark interrupted her.

"Please, just call me Roark." She nodded before continuing.

"I was on my last leg, the attack I took from you Cranidos hit very hard, if it had hit me again the battle would have been over," she ten sighed "as a Rookie I just wasn't strong enough, yet." As she said that Roark began to laugh.

"You are anything but a Rookie, a beginner could never defeat my Geodude and Onix so fast without even getting hurt." He said chuckling but Serah shook her head.

Jeanet nodded

"I have thought of that and I think you're right Roark," she then looked at her other Pokémons "then I guess we know our next destination, Sandgem Town, Thank you for the battle Roark and I also hope that we will meet again." With that they left Roark and went to the exit of the Gym where Serah glowed white for a moment and return to her Renamn form.

"Jeanet I think it's best if you return me to the Digivice when around other people until we have talked with this Professor." Jeanet nodded and looked at the Digivice for a few moment before pointing it at Serah and she was hit by a red beam and sucked into the Digivice and Jeanet and her Pokemon left the Gym.
