Prologue. ( Narr. by the right honorable Sir Azazel , court historian to the combined Vulpine kingdoms.)

Good day to you all. I feel it is my duty to give you and introduction to our once fine society, in preparation for the story to come. Jatth, a distant planet in the Chrysocyonai system, was covered in lush greenery, and inhabited by many various life forms, including a vast population of anthropomorphic animal-people. For years, on the continent, Kabieta, two fox kingdoms ruled in harmony, a long established peace held between the two. One was the Mascul, a faction of the vulpine's that believed in the dominance of the dog foxes. The other was Femalia, where the vixens ruled. The two kingdoms had intermarried for years, with neither gaining ground over the other. The Radiant Age of the two kingdoms lasted for generations, but a third faction slowly grew in the dark shadows of jealousy the two kingdoms were casting. Crossbreeding steadily with other species, they grew in population and power, until they rose up against the twin kingdoms and initiated the Era of the Night-born.

The Era of the Night-born was a dark time for the two kingdoms, since the third group, called the Combines, started killing all the purebred foxes they could. Many fled their homes and the continent they had resided on for living memory. Their journey became known as The Wandering Age of Distant Frontiers as they searched for a new home, a peaceful place they could settle and thrive again. Finally, on a distant continent called Tukan, they found a small place, called the Boreal Valley. The valley was a place of morality and learning, and in this new place, the foxes entered The Cycle of Shining Virtue.

Old ways were forgotten, new ways were learned, but one thing remained true. The prophecy was in effect. One of the last remaining royal Mascul's had spoken the prophecy on the eve of the Combine's first attacks on the kingdoms.

Mascul and Femalia are the two recognized kingdoms of the Vulpine people, but a third will arise, destroying the peace between them. This third kingdom will obscure the genetics of all races, and anything that is not mixed will be hated by them. After generations had passed, and all knowledge of the old ways are nearly forgotten, during a time of further great turmoil for both the Mascul and Femalia, a female will come. One with a heart shaped mark under her tail. She will be born to the royal family of Femalia, her father will be true of the royal line of Mascul.

She will face many trials and tribulations of her own, but with the love hidden inside both kingdoms, she will bring about the long awaited salvation they deserve. She will not be able do this alone though. We must rise up to help her when she needs our help, and cheer for her when she is happy. Only when she has suffered and rejoiced, will both Mascul and Femalia become one again; not allies as now, but a combined union between us both.

It was during this time of The Cycle of Shining Virtue that Darehl, Caiytlynn and Amarantha were born. Their mother was one of the last pure bred Femalia royal line foxes still alive, while their father was of the Mascul royal line. The children weren't as close as you would expect, but the two vixens knew their brother would protect them from everything, and after their parents were killed, their belief in their brother was tested. Each time, he prevailed in adversity, protecting them from the government officials trying to separate them, the bank officials intent on taking their home from them, the drug dealing pimps trying to make the girls into drug addicted prostitutes. Not once did Darehl let the girls down. We now join them for their combined journeys into the future of our people.

Darehl was now sixteen; Caiytlynn, twelve and Amarantha, five. Life was getting difficult for the siblings and Darehl was on the verge of having to stop school to get a job in order to support his sisters. Life though, especially theirs, seemed to have a monkey wrench to throw into plans being made by those who strive to succeed, and this time was no different. Only the monkey wrench this time... well, it was more than one. Life for them was about to get a whole lot more interesting...
