I own this story and the charcters involved. Like anybody even wants them..

I'm just going to point out that this is the first story like i've ever written. I feel im talentless when it comes to this sort of thing, but it never hurts to try! x3

Summary: The rich, anti-social, human Markus has been left emotionally detached because of past events. His roommate Zach, the always happy, artistic, fun loving fox isn't making Markus's life any less easier.

A Meaningful Smile, Chapter 1

The Late morning sunlight shone through the window, shining down on the reddish coloured fur of the 17 years old anthro fox - Zach. The fox sat crossed legged on his also 17 years old roommates large and currently occupied bed. Even though the majority of his fur was red, his hands from the wrists down, just like his feet from a little below his knee's, were pitch black.

Poke.

Poke.

Said fox was currently laughing quietly to himself, whilst using the very unpleasant 'Prodding' method in an annoying attempt to wake his sleeping human friend - Markus. Zach couldn't help winding him up, to him his Markus's temper was just way too hilarious! Markus was lying on his back, with his shoulder-length dark brown hair demonstrating complete morning chaos. His mouth was parted slightly, with a string of drool slowly crawling across his cheek.

'I almost hate doing this_...'_ Zach grinned to himself, resuming his poking, his long and very bushy tail flicking from side to side behind him.

Poke.

Poke.

Poke...

One ocean blue eye slowly opened, taking in its surroundings, before locking onto amber eyes. Still half asleep, Markus sat up, opening both eyes and fixing the fox with a dangerous glare.

"Do that again, and I promise youthey will not find your corpse." he said icily, causing Zach to chuckle.

"Good morning, man. We woke up late, and you kinda weren't waking up when I tried calling you...well whatever, sorry about that, I was only messing with ya", Zach responded smiling warmly, effectively neutralizing the glare aimed at him.

"It's fine. Just don't consider doing that again." Markus sighed, before noticing that Zach was in fact, completely naked - the fox's sheath fully exposed. "And why on earth are you in my room, naked!?"

Zach Smirked. "Awww...Don't like it?"

"....." Markus raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, lighten up dude. You ever tried sleeping while wearing a fur coat along with underwear, on a warm night? It's really not fun, man.

"Fine, Point taken. I'm simply not used to...Seeing things like that, it's still pretty unusual"

Gasping in mock horror, Zach slid off the bed, and stood in front of the human with his hands on his hips, pushing his hips forward a little. "Oh hell naw! and just what's wrong with wrong with my cock?"

Markus diverted his eyes very quickly, his whole face going red. "Th-there's something very wrong with you!" he spluttered. "When I said it was unusual, I meant the idea that I would be sharing my house with a naked male fox..I didn't mean..*cough*..Your genitals, you dimwit!"

I know, I was just messin' with you, man! And what's with calling me a dimwit? I didn't think anybody used that one anymore..."

"I was born and raised by a well spoken family, so of course my speech is going to differ from yours. Now, are you going to stand there all day, or are you going to leave so I can actually get up and do something?

"Yeah, sure man. But first..." Zach said, his muzzle splitting into a malicious grin.

Poke!

"When I catch you, I Swear I am going to tear off every last piece of that fur!!"

Laughing loudly, Zach sped out of Markus's bedroom and right down the stairs, with his very unhappy roommate right behind him.

XxX

With a sigh of boredom, Zach flopped around on the living room couch in nothing but boxer shorts. Markus had said he was going to shower and dress and then walked out of the room. It was the Easter break, so both he and Markus were allowed 2 weeks away from college. However, the time off they received wasn't long enough to actually allow them to go anywhere nor was it short enough to save them from the major boredom both were suffering from. Although both went to the same college, they never really saw each other because they had both chosen completely different courses to do. The imaginative and always smiling Zach had chosen music, art and Gym - not that he needed it. Being athletic, his chest and stomach was well toned, and he was fit. The highly intelligent and seemingly emotionally distant Markus had opted to take maths, biology and chemistry.

'You'd think the damn guy actually enjoys headaches!'

Eventually his boredom had lead into curiosity, pushing him to stand up and explore the large living room and inspect some of the expensive looking objects placed on a few of the units.

Despite having been sharing Markus's house for a little over 3 months - he'd moved in order to be closer to his college, and the rent was next to nothing so he couldn't turn down the offer - he had never actually taken the time to look around the living room. The only reason he would be in the living room was to either watch the television or to play one of the numerous consoles Markus had bought for himself. His jaw had dropped when he had first seen Markus's house, and while being shown around it, he quickly came to the conclusion that Markus was pretty much loaded. When Zach questioned him about how he possessed such a nice house, Markus simply brushed the question off stating that his mother owned a lot of money.

After picking up, inspecting, and then replacing a few objects, his attention came to a photo, which had almost taken his breath away. The photo was of a young boy grinning happily at the camera, wearing a very smart looking suit, standing in front of a very beautiful woman who was also smiling widely and was dressed in an amazing looking dress. She was kneeling down and had her arms around the young boy. The boy had brown hair whilst the woman had light blond, however strangely enough, both had the same clear ocean blue eyes.

'Those eyes..this HAS to be Markus..and this lady must be his mum.'

What surprised him more was that the young Markus was actually smiling. Thinking back, in the three months Zach had lived with Markus he hadn't seen Markus smile even once, but yet here in this picture he looked so happy, and was smiling so warmly that it was almost like it wasn't Markus at all.

He was about to put the picture down, before noticing something strange. Pulling the picture right up to his eyes, he noticed somebody else had used to be standing to Markus's left, but they had been cut out, until only part of the persons arm had remained...

"Zach."

"GAH!
