Author's note: I made this because I felt like doing something I'm not sure has been done before. NOT SURE. I could be wrong. Who knows? Somewhere on Yiffstar it could have been done. But I've yet to see actual battle stories, so I'm basing it on this. Please don't flame me I get enough of that on other sites. I'm working with a friend, so you'll notice a difference in writing styles in every other chapter. I made first. She did second. And so on. My first story! XP Hope you like it. ALSO! Pronunciations: Sentia: Sen- Sha Scarra: Scar-Ra

Lastly: No yiff in first four chapters. BUUT yiff starts up in, I think, the fifth. Hope I get it started soon? Leave some comments. I won't post the next chapter till I have 5 comments. XP I need mixed opinions!

I own all of these carecters.

Shield and Sword

Chapter 1: Deceit

The small group of soldiers looked around, their armor rattling against their shields as they looked up at the night sky. Solaris, a large fox with golden fur instead of red who usually wears yellow shirt and midnight black pants, skilled with sword and bow, looked at the others in his group. Shark, a large, black wolf usually in a red shirt and black pants. Then his eyes were drawn to his mate, Sentia, who was a skilled spy and usually wore a blue shirt and grey pants under all her armor. She looked up at him and smiled. Solaris smiled back and looked at the last person in their group. Scarra, a medium sized grey wolf who always wears green, usually a robe under his green armor, skilled with a bow. Very skilled. He was a sniper. Solaris looked to his small group and spoke with authority.

"Men," He said, "We've been together for three years under the Crimson Eye banner. But despite that, this is the first time we've been here in war. The imperials believe themselves greater than all of us."

Shark grunted, his form of a chuckle, and Scarra laughed outright. Sentia merely shrugged.

Solaris continued. "We must remember that we have skill on our side. But despite that, we will NOT get cocky. If we do we'll lose our edge and be easily defeated. The King is pitting us against forces much larger that us. What will we do to those larger forces?"

Solaris finished with a question, smiling. Shark and Scarra answered at the same time.

"Destroy them!" they shouted in almost perfect unison.

Solaris smiled. "Precisely. Now, get some rest. We move out in the morning."

They mumbled, but, fortunately, they all rolled out their sleeping bags and huddled down. Three bags on the ground. Solaris had a larger one, so that Sentia could sleep with him. She snuggled up against him, and he draped his hand over her shoulder and pulled her just a little closer. She sighed happily, then slowly drifted off to sleep. One by one Solaris heard the others begin to snore before he drifted off as well

The next morning, when the last person finally awoke,(Who was shark, by the way. Siwwy sweapy heeeaaad.) Solaris had already donned his armor and sheathed his weapons. Sentia was next to him, her eyes on the horizon where a large army stood waiting. Scarra touched his armor, liking the way his dark green obsorbed the light so perfectly. No flashing today, no sirry! Solaris looked at the wolf, who slept in his armor for reasons unknown to anyone.

"OK men," He said, scanning their faces, "This is it. The calm before the storm. Eat up. We don't have long left. Also, we have a friend from the main army. His name's Rommel. Show him some respect, wouldya?" The men nodded and lit a small fire on which to cook some sausage and heat some bread.

Somewhere in the distance a little black cat named Rommel gave a list of names to an imperial messenger, chuckling. "I'll never get caught!" He said to himself as the messanger departed on horseback.

Solaris looked up as the black cat made his way into camp, making a big show of pulling up his pants. "Urk," He grunted, looking over them all, "Don't see HOW you can stand using the bathroom out here."

"You get used to it."

"Aaaah don't be such a pussy, cat."

"Unlike some people I have a special someone who hides me and passes me a clean rag now and then"

The replies were mixed, the only one not having said anything being Solaris, who was planning out his attack carefully. He looked over everyone and thought on their streangths. Shark was good at head on fighting, and would probably be right next to him. Sniper scarra would be in a tree, killing from afar. And Sentia would be right beside Solaris, acting as both a soldier and a medic. But Rommel was apparently good with a bow. Stick him closer, in a tree, killing from medium range. Perfect. It was all set. He pulled the soldiers away, one at a time, to tell them their parts.

When he was finally finished, he looked over his men. They were willing to die for him. Let's hope they wouldn't.

"Let's give'em hell!" Solaris said, looking at them with determination in his eyes.

The fifteen minutes that they'd eaten was plenty. Dousing the flame, they stood and, taking a last bite of food, marched into battle. Scarra and Rommel sheared off, finding their 'perfect tree' while the other three marched right on to the hill. They stopped dead in their tracks when they saw the massive force arrayed before them.

"They expect us to beat THAT?!?!" Shark gasped.

"It can't be done!" Sentia murmered.

"We WILL beat them. It CAN be done." Solaris said, smiling encouragingly to them. "Now, let's earn our meal!"

After only a moment of wondering, they charged in a wedge formation, Shark at the point with Sentia behind and to his left and Solaris behind and to the right. On their cue two flaming arrows flew through the air, thudding into a tent and a catapult, setting them aflame. Solaris briefly wondered on how they'd lit their arrows on fire before he raised his round sheild, blocking a vicious mace strike, grunting as his whole arm shook. Then he pushed the soldier off and drew his blade, decapitating the man and blocking another man's sword slash in one swift movement. His ears swiveled as he began to fight, and fight viciously. He danced away from another maceman and ran him through before using his shield as a sort of club, knocking another soldier unconcious. His eyes searched out sentia, and found she'd stuck close to him, fighting off three wolves who seemed to think her as only a distraction. An arrow sprouted from one person's neck, and he fell wordlessly. Solaris' attention was quickly drawn back to himself as he barely dodged another swordswipe, dancing in close to the man and slashing him from his left shoulder to his right hip. The wound cut through at least three ribs and opened up his stomach, spilling his stomach acids all inside his body. Slow death. Sorry bud.

Solaris grunted as he blocked another slash. He pushed the sword away forcefully and stabbed at the soldier's chestplate. His sword cut through the armor like it wasn't even there and continued on through the heart, killing him instantly. Arrows from his allies rained down on the enemies, but strangly one arrow out of four always hit right near Solaris. He pondered this before he knocked a sword away, cutting at the legs of the attacker, fighting to kill and wound.

"Damnit.... There are so many........" Solaris muttered, looking around once again. Shark was battling five soldiers. Solaris lept in, killing one from behind and knocking a second onto Shark's sword. Shark nodded and cut down the three last ones. "Find Sentia and then come and find me. We stand a better chance if we fight together!" Shark nodded and dashed off.

His sword whirred over his head as he stood for a moment, glaring defiantly at the ocean of foes before him, then brought his blade crashing down on a soldier's head, cutting through the weak helm and down to about the point of the nose. Pulling his bloody sword from the Fox's skull, he kicked him into his friends. They fell back, throwing the body off. Solaris sneered as he ran one through, the point of his blade sticking out of their back. Bloodlust overpowering him, he launched himself into a knot of enemies, swinging himself in a deadly circle. Everyone in range was cut down. A hand touched his shoulder. Solaris swung around with a roar, but the sight of Sentia stopped him, his blade inches from her neck. He slowly came back to reality. Many soldiers were retreating. The few who stayed were slain by arrows. Solaris turned to the trees where Rommel and Scarra were hiding. He raised his hand and waved, signalling for them to join up. An instant later Solaris yelped in sudden pain as an arrow bit into his stomach. Attached to it was a note. Solaris stumbled back, looking at the crimson blood that stained his golden fur. He looked to Sentia, who was staring, wide-eyed, at the arrow, then he fell on his back, out cold.

A/N Finally done! LOL not a bad start to a writing career, eh? Now, my fingers ache and my eyes itch. I now submit this and pass the pencil to my partner. Now, I'm off to eat some cherry and blueberry pie. *crawls off in search of pie* Oh, and plz comment! For every extra comment everyone gets pie! *Sentia, Shark, and Scarra cheer* Solaris: I hate pie... SolarFox: WHAAAT?!?! WHO HATES PIE! CHAPTER 3'S GONNA BE HELL FOR YOU! Solaris: NUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!
