COLD ENDING.

A Cubs Tale.

Chapter One.

2359

Explosions and gun fire echoed through the night, as the army of mechinoid undead closed in on the small group of soldiers. Frostpaw fired hir automatic plasma rifle at the head of one of the un-dead soldiers, watching it splatter in a spray of goo.

Dawnlight was manning the 50 cal mounted chain cannon, mowing down any group that got to close to the bunker. Shi sneered with glee as the machine and flesh of the un-dead was torn apart, oil and blood splattered everywhere. Yet they kept on coming.

Hir younger sister of 3 years was busy beside hir, making sure that the weapon was fully loaded. Blood and grime covered hir young face, as shi made sure that the weapon didn't jam. Firespot greased the belt and made sure the bullets were properly slotted, it didn't pay to have the weapon jammed when their lives were on the line.

Both chakat's had seen to many friends and family die from this evil onslaught, their parents were slaughtered from the countless army, even poor Solarblaze and hir amazing powers were not enough to hold the steam of murderous undead.

Just one scratch or bite spelled doom for the hapless victim, as they were slowly turned into the army of horrors. Ready to rise and wreak death and destruction on the living. When shi heard hir sisters gasp, shi took a look over the trench and cried out in horror. One of the un-dead that was marching towards them was Skypouncer, daughter of Stephan and Shadowstripe.

"FIRE!" Firespot screamed, jarring hir sister out of hir shock induced state, and with a primal scream, shi pressed the trigger and obliterated another family member to smouldering piles of steel and flesh and bones.

A sudden flare from behind them told them that Icetail had torched another un-dead in the underground tunnel which leads to the sewers.

"I torched our science teacher, Shir Silverback." Shi called up to the group, coughing and gagging from the stench of burning flesh.

"I never did like hir; shi called me freak and should be expelled." Snowblaze growled, launching another grenade into a group of un-dead, saddened to see one of them, Stephillum, blow apart. Another close family member obliterated.

Huddled next to hir soulmate and sister Firetail, clutching hir stuffed foxy plushy, was Lunablaze, crying from all the noise.

"Hush sweety, I will protect you." Shi purred, rocking the cub gently, double barrel shotgun nestled on hir arm, cocked and ready to blow any head on any un-dead that get's even close to them.

More explosions, then the whir of fly discs filled the air as Heartgold fired the bandsaw weapon, launching razor sharp serrated discs at the hoard, whooping with glee at the heads popping off the bodies of the soldiers.

A sudden quick movement caught Frostpaw's eye, and shi saw the sprinting form of hir closest friend and mate Cleo, dashing from rooftop to rooftop, heading their way.

"Friendly incoming. Our messenger is here." Frostpaw called, firing a volley at the un-dead that were on one of the adjacent rooftops that Cleo was about to land on.

Nimble like the cheetah morph that she is, Cleo avoided the outstretched clawed hands and reached the group, leaping and somersaulting before landing on her paws with the grace of a feline.

"Orders from HQ, they said that the airstrike would commence in 15 minutes, if you can hold out til then." She replied, handing the folder to Frostpaw, saluting.

"15 minutes, hmmm. Nightpaw, do we have enough ammo to last that long?" the folf asked the chakat strategist, who checked the remaining stock of ammunition.

"Barely, if we can slow down their rate of approach." Shi replied.

"I have to go; I have orders for Bravo group." Cleo replied, saluting again, then gave Frostpaw a peck on the cheek, and giggled when Frostpaw blushed and smiled.

"You take care, you here." Shi replied, as Cleo climbed the ladder leading to the roof of one of the buildings and dashed away, leaping from roof to roof again.

Frostpaw watched hir mate and beloved gracefully leapt and landed, again and again, then cried out in horror as the roof of one building erupted from below, clawed arms grabbed the cheetah's thin legs, and she fell screaming into the darkness below.

"CLEO!!!" Frostpaw screamed, struggling against Dawnlight and Firespot, who was preventing their sister from dashing amongst the army and commit suicide.

"LET ME GO!!" shi screeched, tears streaming down hir face at the thought of hir mate dead, or worst, one of the un-dead.

"NO!" Dawnlight growled, slamming hir against the wall, enough to jar some sense into hir.

"I'VE GOTTA SAVE HER."

"It's too late; she's gone, like the others. Dad, mom, Skypouncer, Snowdrift, Snowfur. All gone, we have to fight and survive. I know it hurts hun, but we have to toughen it out and fight." Dawnlight purred, using hir empathic powers to calm the distraught folf down.

Gunfire from Firespot woke Frostpaw out of hir state of shock, and shi grabbed hir weapon and also returned fire, screaming as shi did, out of pure rage. Rage like shi had not felt before. Bullets tore through bodies of friends and strangers, furs and humans, young and old. Some no more than cubs.

Then, as hir weapon ran dry, empty and useless, Frostpaw threw it on the ground. Nightpaw picked it up to reload it, once it was done and ready, shi handed it back.

But Frostpaw wasn't there to grab it; instead shi had climbed up the trench and onto the ground, a strange calmness on hir face as shi closed hir eyes.

"FROST!" Dawnlight called, then immediately stopped firing.

"EVERYBODY TAKE COVER!" Shi yelled, covering Lunablaze and Firetail with hir body.

A sudden chill filled the air, as Frostpaw's body started to glow blue. Hir fur was standing on end as frost appeared around hir feet. Hir hands glowed a brilliant blue as icy mist rose from hir paw hands, then with a flash of radiance from hir eyes, shi let out a primal scream as a fierce arctic wind arose and swept across the battle field. Ice, thick and cold to the touch, spread out across the street and buildings, immobilizing or encasing the un-dead in their tracks, struggling to break free. But because of the severe cold and sudden freezing of oil and blood, as well as their feet encased, the army of un-dead couldn't move. Frozen statues.

Then, the cyrokinetic power coming from the young folf's paws started to create an ice wall, 30 feet tall and 10 feet thick, spreading around the entire bunker, blocking off any entry into encampment.

Finally, exhausted, the folf collapsed into hir sister's arms, steam rising from hir muzzle. Weakly, shi turned to Nightpaw and asked.

"so, will that buy us some more time until the strike?"

"Yes, I think it will." Shi replied, then stared with shock and horror at the large shadow that suddenly loomed over them. Something on the other side of the wall, large and ominous.

"What is that?" Nightpaw growled.

All chakat's lifted their weapons, ready for the new threat that seemed to come out of nowhere.

Then a loud booming voice called out, eliciting moans and groans and whimpers from the tired soldiers.

"ALL RIGHT CUBS, DINNER TIME! COME WASH YOUR PAWS BEFORE EATING!" ordered the sweet but authoritive voice of Solarblaze, deactivating the holosuite that the cubs were playing in. The ice wall, streets, buildings, bodies and weapons vanished. Cleo and Skypouncer got up off the floor, unscathed and clearly alive. Frostpaw weakly rose, supported by Dawnlight.

"Awww dad, the game was going really well." Firespot complained, arms crossed.

"Yeah mom, you should have seen Frostpaw, shi was awesome." Dawnlight replied, slapping the folf on the back.

"Yeah, and I was killed so dramatically." Cleo replied, pouncing on her mate.

"I killed my science teacher." Icetail replied, mimicking her kill shot. "It was so cool, I torched hir."

"Well that wasn't very nice." Solarblaze scolded, closed hands on hir hips, looking at the young cub with a disapproving glare.

"What? It was only a simulation dad, besides. Shi's not a very nice person. Shi's mean to me and my sisters." Snowblaze growled, puffing out hir chest.

"Oh? How so?" The older chakamil asked, escorting the group out of the room and towards to apartment.

"Shi called us freaks." Icetail replied.

"And why would shi say that?" Solarblaze asked, curious now as too why a chakat would be cruel too other's of hir own race.

"Because we are chakamil, and not pure chakats." Snowblaze growled.

"Yeah, and that we should be expelled and let the Pure furs graduate." Icetail whimpered, hir ears flat against hir head.

Solarblaze sighed and shook hir head, shi can't believe that bigotry could exist within furs, but it does. If it wasn't bad enough that they have to deal with human bigotry from Human First fanatics, but they have to deal with it from furs as well.

"Don't worry, I'll speak to your teacher and sort this out. Ok, last one through the door does the dishes tonight." Shi yelled, starting to run, smiling as the cubs suddenly sprinting down the hall, Cleo clearly in front.

"What are we going to play tomorrow?" Lunablaze called excitedly, bounding along, hugging hir plushie

.

"Cops and Robbers?" Nightpaw offered.

"Boring, what about Space Pirates?" Dawnlight offered.

"Did that last week. I know, Cluedo." Icetail replied.

"Nahuh, Luna hates that game. Shi always dies." Firetail objected, looking at hir soulmate.

"I know, what about Dungeons and Dragonoids." Frostpaw suggested, looking at the form of Cleo, as she turned the corner, her tail swishing back and forth.

"You wanna play that game, so you can rescue your sweety, eh? Right?" Dawnlight teased, poking the folf in the side, tickling hir and making hir blush.

"Yeah, you wanna play white knight, correct?" Lunablaze added, swishing hir plushie like a sword.

"Bags not being the witch" Heartgold chimed, poking hir tongue out.

"Can I be the Dragonoid? Please?" Firespot begged.

"Yeah, and I wanna be king, and Cleo is my daughter, so no hanky panky, got it?" Firetail teased.

"Yeah.. And I'm the queen." Lunablaze chirped, excited and nuzzling hir soulmate.

Solarblaze giggled as shi slowly padded down the corridor, listening to the cubs banter of play. Maybe shi should book a room for hir mates to play, although the games wouldn't be for cubs, but for adults. Maybe Sundawn would be queen, and shi wants another heir to the throne.
