A Life Worth Living - Epilogue - When It's Nine in the Afternoon

Here is the epilogue. After weeks and weeks of beautiful build up, here it is, the ending I've had embedded in my mind for months, finally down and complete. If you've gotten as far as reading this, take a minute, comment, and make me happy. Please...

Knock knock

"Coming!" I shouted, heading over to the door. I opened it and saw a canine in military uniform holding a letter with the same envelope type that had caused me dread many times before.

"Who is it babe?" Kaynin said as she bounded over to me and wrapped her arms around my chest. The second she saw the envelope she tensed up.

"Mr. Alurx, Mrs. Kaynin, this for you." The man in uniform said, extending the letter. Taking it, I opened it up and unfolded the paper inside.

To Mr. William, Mr. Alurx, and Mrs. Kaynin

There is not an easy way to put this, so I will cut to the chase. The Genetic and Cell Splicing research sector was a runaway government program we tried to stop, but they went off the radar. We had tried tracking them down but had little success. There isn't a way to really make up to you the lives that were impacted because of this, but we hope there is something we can do to lessen the pain.

I finished reading the letter and lowered it, looking back at the canine at the door.

"Mr. Alurx, I am here to offer you, from the government, whatever you want, so long as it's reasonable. Be it money, property, fame, anything really."

I felt a tug on my shorts and looked down to see Melissa, one of my five pups, all still very young.

"Daddy, are you going to tell us about how you got your scars now?" She asked, looking up, widening her big blue eyes and tilting her head. Damn, soo cute, just like her mother.

"Honey, how about you go play with William, daddy and I will be done in a minute, ok?" Kaynin said, pointing to where the other pups were climbing all over the blue striped German Shepherd.

"Well, sir. I thank you very much for the offer, but I already have everything I could ever want." I said, looking back at my five beautiful pups, then tightly squeezing my perfect wife she gave me a quick kiss on my muzzle before walking over to 'save' William from our children. I looked back at the canine and smiled.

"Mr. Alurx, I would hate to interfere, so enjoy your life, you deserve it." With that he walked back to the hummer in the street and drove off, leaving me with my absolutely, positively, completely perfect life.
