How should I know? Chapter 10: Do you know where you stand?

FERALI's POV

"Why are you thinking about that sorry excuse of a Pokémon?" The voice said.

I didn't pay any mind to it as I now walked through the woods on the other side of the river. A smile now frozen on my face with the thought of how I just betrayed my friends. I didn't want to think about it anymore because the thought just made my heart fill even more heavily than it was.

I took a deep breath, took the feeling of guilt, and buried it deep within my heart. As of right now I'll have to walk my path alone and emotions can't slow me down from finding out my past. The thought of Krystal and Sasha ran through my mind one more time before I shoved the thought of them out of my head for good.

"HAHAHA what a stupid asshole you are!"

"Shut up!" I said snapping back to the voice.

"Give it up lover boy; they never were friends of yours, only suspicious weaklings that kept you distracted from you main task."

"What main task would that be?" I asked the voice.

"Wouldn't you like to know? No I won't tell you now just wait till you get to the Lake you're gonna piss yourself." The voice said back calmly.

I didn't feel like playing the riddle game so I didn't respond back to its statement. As I started to get deeper into the woods I began to feel rather tired from the whole ordeal. "It'll probably be better if I keep going I don't want Krystal catching up to me." I said trying to convince myself that it was the better idea.

"Yeah don't want to have to kill someone else now do we."

"What's is up with you and killing?" I asked the voice.

"Other than the fact that I enjoy it nothing else really, but that's a question you'll have to ask the owner...I mean yourself."

"I still don't know what you mean by that..."

"In due time you murderer, in due time." The voice said as it went silent.

I shook my head trying my best to ignore its annoyance.

As I continued through the wood I could see the town up ahead, the trees were beginning to become a lot less thick the closer I came to the town. When I finally made it to the clearing I was relieved to be able to have some stretching room. The town seemed to be pretty far away even after making it through the woods, but I can't have something like this slow me down now.

I began to make my way down a steep hill; I lost my balance, but quickly regained it. Not wanting that to happen again I thought it'd be easier if I were to slide down the hill instead. Standing forward with my left leg, I pulled my right foot backwards to maintain balance. I looked up the hill and took a deep breath, and released a powerful spray of water.

The blast launched me down the hill at almost overwhelming speeds. Now skating along the grass I turned my head forward to make sure I wouldn't hit anything. So far I was in the clear as I moved down the hill, only a few shrubs and bushes that I can easily avoid once I get to them.

As I approached the first shrub, I felt a very hard blunt object hit me on the head. Which caused me to tip over and tumble roughly down the hill hitting everything I planned to avoid, the pain from all the bumps going down was very annoying. Once I hit the bottom I looked up confused with everything spinning around from me being dizzy. I got my head steady and began to setup to examine what just happened.

"Aww looks like someone else owns it!" A voice in the distances said.

"Damn Paul try to catch it not kill it!" Another voice said sound more feminine.

"Baby it was going down the hill so fast I couldn't catch it without a fast pitch."

I stood up to examine my assaulters, and did my best not to say anything to them. One was a boy looked about fourteen and a women that had to be sixteen or seventeen, because she filled her hiker's clothes really well. Though I did have a few words I would have liked to share with them, it'd be better if I were to forgive and forget.

I smiled to them and bowed politely. I proceed to walk away from them, stumbling from the fall, but something like that was natural when it came to Krystal's training. The further I made my way down the hill I noticed that there were footsteps coming from behind me. The town wasn't too far away from where as I was. I couldn't have these two losers following me after I've reached the town, so I turned around to face them.

"Excuse could you please stop following me, it's becoming rather annoying." I said as politely as I could.

The couple stopped and looked at me with their eyes wide open as if they'd seen a ghost. The woman reached over to the guy and pinched him.

"Ouch what was that for?"

"To make sure I'm not dreaming..." The woman said in disbelief.

"Well you should pinch yourself, because I'm going to capture it by any means!" The man said in now high spirits.

The women reached into her male companions back pocket and revealed a poke ball; she gently tossed it into the air. The ball exploded raining down a white energy to form a Pokémon. The creature inside the ball revealed itself to be a large Purple Nidoking that let out a mighty roar as it was ready to fight me.

"Sir please don't do this I just want to go about my day in peace, I have enough to worry about today thank you." I said still going for the polite card, but it seemed he didn't want to listen. I assume if I were to fall and get captured by these idiots they'd try to sell me to the highest bidder.

I took a deep sigh and readied myself no telling what kind of attacks this thing might have. Getting injured here would be a huge problem if I'm trying to make it to the Lake of Rage.

"Nidoking use poison jab!" The man yelled.

The massive beast charged towards me, hands now glowing purple. I can't get hit with that or its game over even if I were to win the fight I'll pass out sooner or later. I need to end this in one move so I can conserve my strength for the traveling.

"Well aren't you the strategist, what you going to do to it numb-nuts spit water at it." The voice in my head returned.

I ignored the voice and focus at the monster charging at me. Time seemed too had slowed down when I shot an ice beam at its feet and trailed it back to me. The Nidoking slipped on ice and began to the slide towards me. I balled my fist as tight as I could and focused as ice gathered around my fist.

The Nidoking saw what I was going to do, and rolled off the sheet of ice. I came down as hard as I could with enough force to make an ice pillar shoot out of the ground. When I took a second look at the damage that I've done, I notice that the Nidoking wasn't underneath me. I looked up to see the Nidoking now taking a sumo stance, I jumped back to avoid anything it was about to do.

The next thing I felt was the ground starting to shake very violently. It shook me off my feet and onto my back, when it stopped my head didn't.

"Nidoking finish this off with a mega horn!" yelled the women.

At that moment I knew I was in trouble unless I pulled myself together. The Nidoking charged at me with full speed yelling some gibberish that I couldn't understand. I decided to just face it head on with an ice punch; I began covering my fist in ice and waited on the strike for when it approached me.

When it was close enough I hit the tip of its horn as hard as I could with the icy punch. Freezing its horn solid and snapping it off then making contact with its head. When my hand hit its head I could still feel the momentum of the beast charging, as it started to push me back. I tried my best to push it back, but my hand started to tremble and shake.

"Oh my looks like that Absol did hurt you more than you thought! HAHAHA!" The voice in my head stated the obvious.

The thunderbolt that I caught with my hand was starting to coming back to haunt me, but it's not going to let me lose this fight. I pushed as hard as I could, even after hearing the bones in my hands shatter I kept pushing with all my might. With a final push the Nidoking went flying backward towards its trainers, now sporting a missing horn and an ice block on its head.

I was out of breath when the fight came to a finish, and I knew I couldn't take on anymore Pokémon. So I tried to show as much intimidation as possible, so I let out a very loud roar.

"Is that all you got! How about I chew on you two instead since that loser couldn't put a decent fight, I was trying to be nice at first, but now you unleashed the monster in me!" I said threating them, knowing full well that I couldn't back up anything I just said.

"Oh shit this one isn't playing around baby let's get out of here!" The man said recalling his Pokémon back into its ball. Then taking the women by the hand and forcing her to run away with him, into the woods behind us in the opposite direction of the town.

I breathe a collected sigh of relief once everything was said and done. Then tensed up as the pain from my now broken hand was starting to take effect, I couldn't let it slow me down though. I began to hold my right hand up with my left one to give it some support, even though it hurt like hell.

I'm going to have to go to a Pokécenter there's no way I can continue traveling like this.

"Aww is the poor baby hurt, you want a bandage for your boo boo?" the voice said returning.

"Yeah mom you mind kissing it for me, if not shut the hell up. Ugh..." I grunted as I limped into town.

There was a sign saying 'Welcome to Ecruteak City!' When I looked up at the town it seemed really quiet and peaceful. I bet Krystal would have liked to have come here; she might have really enjoyed this place. Look at me only been away from her for three hours and yet I can't get her off my mind, what a big man I am. I hope she's doing better than I am, not only her but Sasha as well. I left her in pretty bad shape when she attacked me back there; she looked to not have any strength left.

I shook the thought from my head as I limped further into town it was almost like a ghost town from the first view of it, but there were a few people standing around talking with one another. I look down the street I saw a Pokécenter; it was only a few blocks away from where I was standing.

As I took a deep breath for the long walk ahead, I held my injured hand closer to my chest to somewhat absorb the shock from my steps.

'I guess a journey of a thousand miles has to begin with the first step.' I thought to myself procrastinating about the short walk.

As I made my way down the street, people began to look at me strangely. I guess it isn't every day you see a seven foot water creature walk down the street so casually. I did my best to ignore the eyes of the people bearing on me.

Now only a block away from the Center I felt something hit me on the back. I stopped and then turned around to only see a Poke ball roll away from me. I sighed again as I looked up to see who it was that threw it, only to see that there was a crowd of people standing behind me holding the round object.

As another one flew towards me I quickly caught it inside my mouth and crunched down as hard as I could. Once the ball snapped in my mouth I spit it out, and then shook my head towards them.

"Well looky at what we have here everyone, a Feraligatr!" A tall woman with pink hair and bright orange tight dress said stepping forward out of the crowd. "Come on don't play hard to get, I'll take real good care of you."

Damn I'm really not in the mood for any of this crap. That's when it hit me, on how to get out of this situation it may hurt like hell for a bit but it's something I'm going to have to deal with.

I took a step backwards and gave the woman who was in front of everyone a mean look. I took a deep breath and let loud roar.

Most of the crowd dispersed after hearing that, but the woman in front was unfazed by it. She look to me with very determined eyes, much like those of Krystal's except hers were blue. I knew this was a fight I wasn't going to win even if everyone knew I was someone else's.

So I began part two of my on the spot plan, which was run like a mad man to the Pokécenter. I turned around and dashed off tilting forward to go faster while I was on my hind legs. The vibration from my hand bouncing up and down made the pain double, I involuntarily grabbed my right shoulder with my left hand, and close my right eye from the pain alone.

I could hear people from behind me yelling and screaming about capturing me; as they chased me from behind.

As long as I have strength in this body that wasn't going to happen. I Spun around quickly and shot water onto the pavement to trip some of my pursuers up as they gave chase. Everyone except the woman who leaped over the puddle with much beauty, grace and showing no signs of stopping.

"Oh come on!" I yelled to myself as I turned around and began dashing off again.

The Pokémon center was only a few steps away as I used the last bit of my will power to force myself to the door. The automatic doors slid open, as I slid to a halt running inside of them, while the woman was right on my heels.

I ran to the front counter and began charging for an aqua tail. The woman stopped and pulled out a Poke ball and held it to me.

At this time the Nurse Joy came from around the corner with a Chansey. I sighed in relief once I saw her I let go of the aqua tail charge and leaned into the counter holding myself up.

"Wait a minute what's going on in here?" The nurse inquired.

"Oh nothing my Pokémon was startled by something and ran into here..."

When she said that I spat some water into her face to show great disrespect to her also to show the nurse that I wasn't her Pokémon, I then began to shake my head at the nurse while I panted loudly.

"Ok then mam your Pokémon seems to be injured could you please recall him into his ball so I may treat him." The nurse politely asked the woman.

"Well you see about that..." She said wiping the water from her face.

"That this Pokémon isn't yours and you attacked him seeing that he's already injured. Mam I'm going to have to ask you leave, before I have to call the police." The nurse answered more sternly.

The woman pride didn't want her to back down, but she knew if she didn't she'd be in a lot of trouble. So she began to walk away without saying a word, looking back to me with a smile, and then tilting her head up walking away.

"How you're holding up big guy? Where's your owner?" The nurse asked me bending over.

I looked to her not wanting to respond to her, but I was too tired to play the guessing game. So blinked a few times making up my mind to talk to her, "Not so good nurse my hand is shattered and I left my partner."

"Oh my word you can talk?"

"Nurse please don't, I'm in a large amount of pain." I pleaded with her.

"I understand, but I'll have to contact your owner."

"You can't if you do she'll be endanger and I can't let that happen to her. Please I'm begging you, can we just keep this between us."

"Ok fine you win, but only because you seem sincere. I'll have to do some x-rays on your hand to see what condition it's in and how much repair is going to be required." She said sternly.

I nodded to her and brought myself to my feet, and looked around me to get a better view of my surroundings. The building was larger on the inside than it looked on the outside, due to the lack of people that were inside. I looked behind me over the counter and saw the Chansey siting in the corner smiling.

I smiled back to her asking, "So you've worked here long?"

"Ms. Joy will be with you shortly." She said politely ignoring my question.

I rolled my eyes and waited for the nurse to return the counter and said, "Right this way Mr. Feraligatr."

"Ferali."

"What's that?" She asked.

"My name it's Ferali." I said smiling.

She nodded to me smiling holding her hand out to a hallway behind the counter. I began to follow the path had pointed out to me; I saw a door down the hallway saying 'X-ray room' I enter and looked around. The nurse pointed towards a seat, I walked to it and sat down the nurse turned off the lights, and used a machine to take some picture.

"Ok I'll be right back don't move now." She said with a smile.

I nodded back to her as she began to walk out of the room. "What do you think you're doing?" The voice came back once again.

"Getting healed up what's it look like."

"I guess you're that determined eh. Though I could save you the hard ache and just tell you right now, but seeing you suffer makes me feel better inside." It said happily.

"You were born a dick weren't you?"

"Hey you made me this way..."

"Ugh shut up so I can get this over with I need to find a place to sleep for the night once this is over with."

"I hope you know what you're doing fat shit..."

"Hey I know where I stand in my life now, and I don't need my imagination to tell me otherwise." I said angrily.

"Whatever..." The voice added before disappearing.

The nurse returned to the room turning on the light saying, "Well it's not that bad as it could be."

"What's that's supposed to mean?"

"For starters your hand isn't broken just a fraction in your wrist and two broken fingers. Nothing I can't fix." She said with a wink.

I blushed lightly and asked, "Nurse Joy how long do you think this is going take?"

"Well the procedure will take about an hour, but since it's getting late I'd like to keep you over night to make sure everything heals properly."

She motioned her hand towards her, telling me to follow her. I did as commanded and walked out of the room. She turned around locked the door and took the lead. Walking down the hallway I looked up out the window and could see the sun setting, it brought a moment of peace to my mind. I wonder do I really know where I stand?
