Chapter One.

The medical staff checked the machines that were connected to the foxtaur, monitoring hir heart rate and brain activity. For nearly 25 years, Morgan Duskstar was in a deep coma. Hir body was kept nourished and full of vitamins and nutrition.

Through the observation booth, a lone figure was watching hir, heart aching for the touch of hir fur, the warmth of hir breath and the sound of hir voice. He would be content with just hearing hir heartbeat. Not the bleep bleep of the machines, but the steady rhythmic thumping within hir chest. But with hir condition, no non-medical personal were allowed inside the isolation room.

Lupone gently touched the glass, tracing his finger over the image of Morgan, his soulmate and long lost lover, someone he thought was dead. Tears streamed down his muzzle as he thought about his life, and how he took the path of revenge against the human first group he blamed for hir apparent demise. If only he had known shi was ok, rescued, he would have lived his life differently.

"You can't blame yourself for your rash decision to fight against the H1 scum, you didn't know about hir situation or condition." Replied a soft feminine voice behind him. He turned to see his denmate Lunablaze walk through the door, nursing their 3 year old cub Chiron. Shi was suckling and purring contently on hir mothers' teat.

"I just can't help it hon. Thinking about what my life would be like if I had known that Morgan was alive. Who knows, if I was with hir, talking to hir then instead of now, shi might wake up sooner."

"Nonsense, and besides, fate decided your path. Otherwise, we would never would have met and had a cub together." Shi smiled, snuggling up next to him, with which he wrapped his arm around hir shoulders.

Suddenly, the machines started to beep erratically, and the nurses ran to the fro, one checked hir breathing through a stethoscope, and then shi spoke into a communicator.

Lupone's heart rose with worry, concerned for his beloved foxtaur.

"What? What is going on?" he asked his mate, anxious to rush in and hold Morgan.

"I don't know sweety, but we must wait until we are informed from the doctors. In the mean time, please settle down. I'll try and find out as soon as possible, I promise." Shi replied, giving him a kisslick on the cheek before leaving.

20 minutes later, Lupone and Lunablaze were in the doctors' office. Chiron was curled up in Lunablaze's nursing pouch as shi was holding hir mate's paw for support.

They both turned and looked when the door opened, and Dr Stephillum Glazer padded in, tired and showing hir age of 53. The years have been tough on the old herm foxtaur, especially since the death of hir father last year. Coming up to hir niece, shi hugged kisslicked hir then hugged Lupone and nuzzled Chiron. Then shi sat down behind hir desk.

"How are you aunty?" Lunablaze asked, sensing hir auntie's tiredness and grief.

"As well as can be expected, in light of my recent loss." Stephy replied, absently holding the frame picture of hir father, finger lovingly caress the glass.

"Yes, it still hurts some times, I still remember him picking me up and cuddling me, my grandpop was always gentle and kind." Luna replied, hir voice trembling with sorrow. Hir cub sensed hir sadness, and started nuzzling hir cheek.

Lupone also comforted his mate, rubbing hir shoulders. Shi nuzzled back in response.

Stephy returned the photo and sighed, something else on hir mind.

"What is it Aunty, you look worried." Lunablaze commented, noticing hir deeper anguish.

"I feel that my mom is not fairing to well with the loss hir mate. Shi is becoming more withdrawn and not eating well." Stephillum replied, a look of even more sadness washed over hir features.

"Oh dear, I didn't know that shi is handling the death of poppa so bad, is there anything you can do?"

"I'm afraid not. All we can do is make hir life full of love and joy." The foxtaur replied, then shi picked up the folder shi brought in with hir. "In any case, what I have here, is some good news, some very good news." Shi replied, looking straight at Lupone as shi spoke. He in turn looked back, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.

"Is shi?" he began to ask.

"Yes hun, shi is awake. Weak and confused. But conscious. Although, hir memory is a little fuzzy. Shi has no recollection of what happened to hir or how shi arrived here. But one good bit of news. Shi remembers you Lupone, in fact, your name was the very first thing shi said once shi regained consciousness."

"How is shi coping with hir... "condition?" Lunablaze asked, concerned over what the foxtaur's reaction would be to not having any legs.

Stephillum lowered hir ears and sadly shook hir head.

"What?" Lupone asked, now worried.

"I'm afraid that informing hir of hir injuries would severely traumatize hir, and in hir weakened state, shi would suffer a shock."

Just then, the buzzer sounded on Stephillum's desk. Shi pressed the button.

"Yes?" then shi released the communicator button for hir receptionist to reply.

"Doctor, we need you right away in the IC room, patient Duskstar is having an episode." Came the panic voice.

"I'll be right there." Shi replied, then shi held onto Lunablaze's hand and Lupone's hand, then all four of them arrived via teleportation in the IC room, where Lupone was met by a sight that broken his heart. Morgan was struggling like a wild animal, screeching and struggling against hir restraints, snarling and lashing out at anyone who came within reach.

"STAY AWAY FROM ME YOU FUCKING BASTARDS, LEAVE ME ALONE." Shi screeched and spat.

"Miss Duskstar, It's alright, you are safe now." Stephillum replied, walking over with hir hands up in a gesture of calm.

Morgan lashed out, catching the foxtaur on the cheek with hir claws, leaving three deep bloody gouges in hir face.

"STEPHY!" Lunablaze cried, but was held back by orderlies.

"It's alright hun." Stephillum replied, backing up and placing hir hand on the wounds and used hir ability to heal hirself. Soon, there was no evidence of the brutal attack, aside from Morgan's bloody claws and the blood smear on Stephillum's fur.

"MORGAN, STOP THAT!" Lupone growled, stepping forward. For a moment, the foxtaur didn't hear him, so he growled again.

"CAPTAIN DUSKSTAR, THIS IS CAPTAIN LUPONE, DO YOU READ ME, OVER?"

Finally, Morgan stopped hir growling, and hir eyes focused on the wolftaur in front of hir, then shi sniffed his scent. "L-Lupone?" shi whimpered, then started crying, holding out hir arms. Then shi was crying into his chest as he started stroking hir headfur softly, murring and taking in hir scent for the first time in over two decades. And it was heavenly, so sweet and pure that his heartbeat quickened.

Realizing the need for privacy, Stephillum ushered hir niece and the nurses and orderlies out of the room.

"I think they need time to themselves." Stephillum replied, hir arms around Lunablaze's shoulders and rubbed them softly. The dark furred chakat nodded and tried to settle hir daughter down, as shi was crying from the foxtaur's violent outburst.

"I sure hope that's the last of hir violent outburst, I hate seeing people and furs upset like that." Stephillum replied.

"Yes, and It didn't help that my daughter experienced that kind of anger. What the fuck happened to hir, to cause that kind of anguish?" Lunablaze asked.

Stephillum looked at hir niece then gave a deep sigh.

"I think it's time you knew the entire information of the Morgan's rescue." Stephillum replied, teleporting hirself and Lunablaze and the cub to Chakona.
