#2 of The Doctor's Daughter

Brian woke up before Nathan. He sat up, looking over their bedroom. The vodka and Oreos were on the floor along with the pair's clothes. Brian looked over at the clock, and procured that it was 9:30 in the morning. Time to get up.

"Good morning sweet cheeks," Brian began, "Time to get up."

The coyote yawned and stretched. His eyes cracked open, quickly closing due to the sunlight in the room.

"Is Haley at school?" Nathan asked.

"Yeah," Brian began, "It's Friday, we're headed to the arcade at 3"

"How do you know?" Nathan asked.

"She left a note on the nightstand," Brian replied, "Thank god she can drive now."

Nathan sat up and yawned again. The coyote stood up out of bed, only to be pulled back in by Brian.

"You can stay and cuddle for a little. Can't you?" Brian said, nuzzling his lover.

"I guess," Nathan began, nuzzling back, "I'm glad I don't have work today, yesterday was a bitch."

"Well yeah, armed gunmen usually ruin a workday," Brian scoffed.

"It was the surgery that ruined it," Nathan replied, "A scary surgery against time like that... always makes things worse. That one was worse than usual, it was just like that kid."

"At least you helped him out," Brian began, then kissing the coyote's cheek, "You're so good at what you do."

"Don't you ever have patients like that?" Nathan asked, "One's that just make your day worse."

"Well... yeah, children always get to me, even though I'm not a child specialist," Brian began, "All those kids who come in, teary eyed, hurt in their heart and mind, it gets to me."

Nathan moved over on top of Brian, and gave him a quick smooch on the lips. Brian chuckled and rubbed down the back of Nathan's neck.

"Come on," Nathan said, "Grilled cheese sandwiches for breakfast?" "Are you cooking?" Brian asked.

"Of course," Nathan replied, "Maybe I'll be adventurous and scramble some eggs."

"Sounds dangerous," Brian began, "I might just have to beat you down there."

Nathan jumped out of bed and took off sprinting, Brian following nearly instantaneously. The two ran down the stairs neck and neck, Nathan getting the edge at the bottom. Brian lunged, tackling the coyote onto the couch. The two laughing as they went down.

"It was a race," Nathan scoffed, "Not tag."

"And you're complaining about being under me?" Brian asked.

"Well you aren't that good," Nathan began, a smirk on his face.

"We are already naked," Brian replied, "Maybe I could... change your opinion."

"You're gonna have to be pretty damn impressive to...," Nathan began, cut off by a sudden kiss from Brian.

Nathan moaned and opened his mouth, allowing the questing tongue caressing his lips access. Their tongues danced, in an ever changing choreography all their own. The coyote moved his leg to caress down Brian's, trying to add even more sensuality to their act of love. Brian broke away.

"How's that?" Brian asked.

"Ok," Nathan began, continuing on at the sight of Brian's downtrodden face, "Fine, it was amazing."

"That's what I thought," Brian scoffed, flicking Nathan's nose.

"I really want something right now," Nathan began, "Like I don't know... a treat maybe."

"That's what I was thinking too," Brian replied, "But we can only have one between us."

"Let's flip a coin," Nathan said, pulling out a quarter, "I got tails."

Nathan flipped the coin and it landed on tails. Nathan licked his lips and crawled out from under Brian. The golden retriever smirked and sat up, spreading his legs. The coyote gave him a quick kiss on the lips before moving down his front, his paws trailing down. Nathan's knees hit the ground and his paws began to massage circles into Brian's thighs, moving closer and closer to his target.

Brian's eyes closed and he let out a breathy moan the second Nathan touched his sheath. It was quickly brought to life by Nathan's sexual precision. The phone rang just as Nathan engulfed the head. Brian scoffed and picked up the phone.

"Hello?"

"Brian?" Haley began, "It's Haley, listen school got cancelled today because Mr. Hister had a heart attack."

"Oh," Brian began, "That's terrible."

"So me and Charlie are on the way to the arcade right now," Haley began, "If you guys are ready to come out, do."

Nathan was working up and down Brian's cock the whole time. The coyote's pink tongue, slowly curled around the member, spreading out the pleasurable feeling all over Brian's flesh. His entire body worked into the pleasure, bobbing up and down in time with his motions. Brian made a strangled noise and covered up the mouthpiece of the phone.

"Goddamn you're good!" Brian exclaimed.

"What was that Brian?" Haley asked.

"I said we were coming out soon," Brian began, "Wanna say hi to Haley Nathan?"

Nathan did, the sound coming out as a mumble around Brian's dick. Brian scoffed.

"Don't talk with your mouth full Nathan, it's impolite," Brian said.

"If I'm interrupting anything you guys could come out later," Haley began, knowing what was going on at her house.

"No he's... I mean we're almost done," Brian replied, "Bye."

As soon as Haley hung up, Brian let himself go to the passion. He grasped Nathan's head and began to hump, gently, trying to help himself along. Nathan chuckled and began to rub the golden retriever's abs, synchronizing his motions with his tongue. With a moan Brian came, flooding Nathan's mouth with his doggie seed.

Nathan swallowed it down and moved back onto the couch.

"We got to go have our date now," Brian began.

"Nice," Nathan said, "I'll just put on some cologne and get dressed."

With that the couple prepared, dressing and grooming themselves for their date. Nathan had finished first and was sitting in the car. Brian walked out and got in.

"So who's the scary dad and the cool dad?" Brian asked.

"I'll be the scary one," Nathan began, pulling out of the driveway

"That's scary," Brian replied, "Do you know anything about him?"

"Not really," Nathan began, "Other than he's a wolf."

"He'd better be a nice wolf," Brian said, "Or I'll make him pay."

"Hey hey hey!" Nathan exclaimed, "You're the cool parent remember."

"Fine," Brian sighed, "Are you really ok with Haley dating?"

"She's old enough to now," Nathan began, "And I know more than anyone how much a relationship can help you out."

"True," Brian began, his paw finding Nathan's, "I think we should switch."

"Bullshit!" Nathan replied, "She's my biological daughter, which makes my protection instinctual, while you are her adopted parent which makes your protection out of love."

"Which is better though?" Brian asked.

"We're almost there," Nathan stated, "I really hope that Haley made a good choice."

"Of course she did," Brian began, "She has high standards."

The drive to the arcade passed with no incident. They parked around the corner from it, because parking spots always filled up fast in that part of town. The town was fairly small, only about 5,000 people, but it seemed like everybody had at least two cars. Nathan and Brian stepped out onto the curb, and turned the corner.

The arcade was huge, with a large flashing sign advertising the different virtual games they had. Haley and Charlie were standing in front of the sliding glass doors. Haley waved them over.

"Hi guys," Haley began, "I'm really sorry if I interrupted anything."

"You didn't," Brian replied, "We were just eating breakfast."

"Ok," Haley said sarcastically, "This is Charlie, Charlie Nathan and Brian."

The wolf was just a nose taller than Nathan, and had a well defined form. He was wearing a black leather coat with a white t-shirt under it. He outstretched a paw, and shook both of the adult's paws.

"Did you have to date someone taller than me Haley?" Nathan joked.

"Why does that matter?" Haley asked.

"Cause now I can't glare down at him if he mistreats you," Nathan began, "But you won't Charlie, right?"

"Of course not sir," Charlie replied.

The two looked at each other. Until Brian began.

"Now that that's out of the way lets play some games!"

The four entered into the virtual arcade. The lobby was much like a movie theater lobby. There was a booth where you'd get your tickets and a series of rooms, a virtual game for each one. Charlie walked up to the booth.

"Hey dad," He began, "I'm here with my girlfriend and her parents."

"Go right in," His father began, "But first I want to meet them."

He came out from behind the booth. The middle aged wolf looked over the group.

"I thought you said parents," He began.

"I did," Charlie replied, "Haley's dad's gay."

"Oh," Charlie's father said, "Oh shit... I'm sorry... I didn't think."

"It's fine," Nathan replied, offering a reassuring smile, "You're not the first one."

"Thanks," The older wolf said, "Have fun guys."

The four walked forward into the lobby. On the back wall, there was a large board, with each game on it. They ranged anywhere from crime games, to zombies, to the wild west, to war.

"That Fallout game looks interesting," Brian began.

"I've got my eye on the zombie one myself," Haley said.

"What about that cowboy one?" Nathan asked.

"Sorry guys," Charlie began, "The best quality one is the war one."

"Charlie my d-," Haley began.

"Then we'll play it," Nathan interrupted, "Lead the way."

The quartet walked down the hallway to the right of the board. The war game, Real War, was at the end of the hallway. Charlie opened the door to the room and walked in, the three following.

The room housing the game was big and dark. There were several dozen pods laid out in rows, most of them occupied with a fur. The furs inside were covered in electro readers and cords, and looked as if they were sleeping. Charlie found them a series of four adjacent pods and helped each of them into one.

Brian shook off the paw.

"I'm no old man," He began, "This is just like that virtual training, remember Nathan?"

Nathan nodded. The army had begun to use virtual reality trainers to train the recruits how to fight. Since then, the technology had been incorporated into video games. The design hadn't changed much, with most of the cords going in the exact same place as they did all those years ago.

In no time at all, Brian and Nathan were hooked up into the pod and closed up. Charlie walked up to Haley and lifted her off her feet. Haley giggled and brought her muzzle down to Charlie's. It was only a quick kiss, and the two were soon separated.

"I've been waiting to do that all day," Charlie remarked, offering a paw to help his girlfriend into her pod.

"Too scared to kiss me in front of my dad?" Haley joked, a smirk on her face.

"More like both of your dads!" Charlie replied, "That golden retriever looks like he could beat my ass."

"He's actually calmed down over the years," Haley explained, "My real dad on the other hand... he's tough. Not like brute strength tough, but he can take a lot of damage. He isn't scared of anything either."

"Great," Charlie began, "Now I'm scared of both of your parents."

"Don't be," Haley replied, "Now let's get in the game; I'm sure they're waiting for us."

Charlie gave the coyote another quick kiss and jumped into his pod. The four were together again, standing in a white space.

"About time you two got here," Nathan began, "We've been stuck here for ages."

The white space changed into a small room, with items rendering all over it. There was a mix of guns and other weapons, along with medic kits, explosives, and vehicle keys. Charlie went and grabbed an assault rifle with some grenades and other assorted explosives.

"Gear up," He began.

The furs went around the room, picking up their gear. Haley had grabbed a submachine gun, grenades, and a pair of pistols. While Nathan and Brian grabbed the guns they carried on Makassar, except Nathan grabbed a revolver and Brian switched out his pistol for a dangerous looking combat knife.

"About time I get a revolver," Nathan scoffed, spinning the cylinder.

"So how realistic is this game?" Brian asked.

"Very," Charlie replied, "It's very authentic."

Nathan grabbed a medic kit and slung it over his shoulder in response.

"So we get good combat clothes right?" Nathan asked.

"Yeah, once we get in the game," Charlie said.

"Well then let's play," Haley began.

Charlie pushed open the door and a menu looking thing projected onto the wall. Charlie picked the option, Total War, and waited. A line of text popped up, which said.

This copy of Total War is dedicated to Sergeant Davis Williams, who was killed in the Makassar conflict in defense of his country.

"I knew him," Nathan stated.

"Really?" Charlie asked, "Over in Makassar?"

"Yeah," Nathan replied, "I served with him."

"Awesome!" Charlie said, "What was he like? I only met him once."

"Well...," Nathan began, looking over at Brian, "He was a good guy... I was sorry to see him go like that."

"He's in the game you know," Charlie began.

"Really?" Nathan asked.

"Yeah, I programmed him in," Charlie continued, "He's the guy that briefs you, and he also fights with you."

"Nice," Nathan began.

The loading screen faded to a spinning globe. The image zoomed in on the island of Sicily. A wolf walked in, decked out in a soldiers outfit. Nathan gasped at the realization of who it was. The wolf was Davis. Even though that Charlie had told him that he would be coming in, it still caught him off guard.

"Good evening soldiers," Davis began, walking about proudly like he always used to, "You four and I are going to invade this town, and pave the way for our invasion of Sicily. We're going up on the beach of this fishing village, and fighting our way to the church at the top of the hill. Let's move out."

Davis stepped aside to let the four pass. Nathan was the last out, and Davis outstretched an arm to stop him.

"Hold up there," He began, "I have something important to say to you."

"Well what?" Nathan asked, surprised an AI could start up a conversation with him.

Davis leaned in, a smirk on his face. His muzzle found Nathan's ear, and he whispered.

"Hello Nathan."

Nathan tensed. Davis's virtual breath teased his ear as he pulled away. He gestured for the coyote to follow him through the door, and Nathan complied. Nathan was numb. How could Davis... no that thing that looked like Davis, know his name.

The group found themselves back in the white space. The scene quickly changed to a bouncing skiff, bouncing on the waves to a dimly lit town. The group was dressed in black, and was reduced to their silent weapons. Brian was left with only his knife, so Haley threw over one of her own pistols.

"I want you three," Davis pointed out, indicating Brian, Charlie and Haley, "To head up on the right side. While me and the medic will head to the left, we'll meet up at the entrance to the church."

The group nodded and hunkered down in the small boat. As they got closer, they could see that the town was split into two vertical roads, with many others crisscrossing those two. Each road was densely populated with houses and other buildings. They came to a stop on the beach and stealthily moved up to a rocky outcropping.

"Be as stealthy as possible until we make it to the church," Davis began, preparing a silenced assault rifle, "Once we get there it won't really matter."

The three furs that were going right nodded and went off, slowly advancing to their target. Davis and Nathan waited for a moment behind the outcropping, before slowly moving around it and advancing up the street.

"That alleyway there looks good, it might go all the way up to the church," Davis pointed out, "Let's go in through there."

Nathan followed Davis into the alleyway. He heard something, something spoken fast in Indonesian. He turned to look, wary. He shrugged it off and continued on, following behind Davis. There was a clatter behind him, and a tiger jumped out at him, shouting out in Japanese. Nathan gasped and rose up his gun, only for the tiger to disappear into thin air.

"Fuck," Nathan cussed under his breath.

The coyote began to wish that he had taken his meds before coming out. Davis told him to hold up, cutting off his hindsight. Davis knelt down and gestured for Nathan to come up to him. The coyote slunk up and knelt down beside him.

"There's a guy right there," Davis began, "Right there in that doorway, I want you to take him out while I go up ahead. Just head for the church, I'll see you there."

"Ok," Nathan replied as he began to move forward.

One of Davis's paws found Nathan's shoulder. Nathan stopped and turned around, seeing Davis's usual smirk plastered on his face.

"Don't fuck him up too bad," Davis began, "Don't cut his ear off or anything like that."

Nathan gulped and moved forward. Davis slunk past him and rounded the corner onto the street. The coyote walked up to the doorway, and saw the back of a young cougar. The coyote didn't have a knife, so he pulled out his revolver. The coyote took a breath, and lunged.

He caught the side of the cougar's head with the butt of his revolver, making the enemy stagger forward. The cougar turned around and growled, only for Nathan to silence him with a trifecta of punches to the torso. The cougar was brought to his knees, where he knelt grunting and panting.

Nathan holstered his revolver and pulled out his silenced submachine gun. The doctor put the barrel to the cougar's forehead. Only for the cougar to change into a tiger, in Japanese army clothes.

"Wareware wa gobuku," The tiger said.

Nathan winced, remembering how coldly he executed the tiger on Makassar. He raised the barrel of the gun from his face, only to slam down with the stock. The tiger fell backward with a torrent of blood rushing from his muzzle. Nathan chuckled, realizing he just had to take a different plan of action than the flashback.

Meanwhile on the street to the right, the three had moved up without much incident. Charlie was leading the way, followed by Haley, and with Brian taking up the rear. All of a sudden, a lizard with a gun popped out of one of the houses. The lizard, turned, shouted something in Italian, and opened fire. The three narrowly ducked down behind a car in time, the bullets whizzing over their heads.

"Looks like they know we're here," Charlie began.

Brian chuckled and rolled out from behind cover, pistol drawn. He fired three times and the lizard fell forward, gut-shot in three places. The group hurriedly advanced up to the house, and waited for whoever may come to investigate the noise. They crouched down against the door side wall, Brian and Charlie peering warily out the opening.

"I wonder how Dad's doing," Haley began.

"Better than us obviously," Charlie replied, "I haven't heard anything from that side of town."

There was a clamor outside and the three fell silent. Brian and Charlie moved away from the door, taking cover behind the walls next to it. Brian gestured for Haley to come up to him. The female coyote did, and Brian whispered.

"I'll trade you that submachine gun for this pistol."

"Why don't I just give you the pistol?" Haley whispered back.

"Cause you need to get the girly gun," Brian joked.

"Fine then," Haley retorted, "You can take this other pistol, and I'll keep my "manly" gun. Thank you very much."

Brian scoffed and took the pistol. Haley threw him some magazines with ammo and huffed. The source of the clamor revealed itself, a dozen enemy furs with guns. They stopped in front of the house, talking angrily.

"Shit," Charlie murmured.

"We can take them," Brian whispered back, "Your call."

"Let's do it," Haley said.

"Fine," Charlie began, "NOW!"

The three popped up from their hiding spots and opened fire. As the first few went down, others turned and began firing, peppering the walls with bullets. Brian ducked down, a bullet whizzing just over his ear. After a short heated firefight, all of those outside were dead.

"That felt real," Brian sighed, reloading his pistols.

"I told you it was authentic," Charlie replied, "How you doing Haley?"

There wasn't an answer. The two looked over to see Haley propped up against the wall with blood running out of her shoulder. Charlie ran over to her, looking over the wound.

"Oh fuck," He began, "Do we have a med kit?"

"No," Brian replied, "Nathan has the only one."

"Do you think he's at the church by now?" Charlie asked.

"I don't know," Brian said, "We should go check though."

Brian helped Charlie to lift Haley onto her feet and began to walk up to the church. Haley was losing blood fast, her steps becoming more and more uneven. The church loomed up in the distance, and the group increased their pace. Nathan was already there, standing uneasily beside the fence.

"Nathan!" Charlie called, "Get the med kit out."

Nathan did and ran up to the three. He took his daughter from them and laid her gently on the ground. Nathan began to work, pulling out the bullet and beginning to stitch up the wounds.

"Does getting shot really hurt this bad?" Haley asked.

"Yeah," Nathan began, "You should be good now though."

Haley got up gingerly, holding her injured arm to her side. Nathan picked up his daughters gear and walked over to Brian and Charlie.

"Have you guys seen Davis?" Nathan asked.

"No," Charlie replied, "I thought he was with you."

There was a clamor up in the church and the group turned to look. A jackal came flying out the door, followed by the walking Davis. The wolf rose up his pistol and fired. The other canine died instantaneously as the bullet pierced the back of his skull.

"So there you guys are!" Davis exclaimed, "I've been waiting for you."

"How long have you been up here?" Nathan asked.

"Long enough," Davis began, "I cleared out the church, well except for one guy."

"Why is he still alive?" Charlie asked.

"Cause I figured the doctor wanted another crack at one," Davis replied.

The wolf then moved closer to Nathan.

"It's not like you haven't done it before," Davis whispered, "Right Nathan."

No one else heard, and Nathan gulped. The wolf grabbed his arm, and led him into the inside of the church. A tiger was tied up in a kneeling position in the center of the floor. Nathan could see the fear dancing in his eyes. The coyote broke Davis's grasp and backed up.

"No," The coyote stated.

"Come on," Davis began, his ear disappearing and his scars appearing, "You did it to me."

Nathan fell backwards out into the courtyard. He disappeared from the game, disconnecting himself. Brian ran to the spot where he fell.

"What just happened?" Brian asked.

"He disconnected," Charlie replied, "I don't know why."

"I'd better go see what's up," Brian began, "I'll see you guys later.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Brian opened his eyes up in his pod and began to disconnect himself. He sat up, and saw the retreating form of Nathan. Brian got up and followed after him. The coyote ran back to the lobby and into the bathroom. Brian stopped at the entrance and walked in. Nathan was at the sink, splashing his face with water.

"Are you ok?" Brian asked.

"He knew my name," Nathan stated.

"What?" Brian asked.

"Davis in the game," Nathan replied, "He knew my fucking name, and all about Makassar."

"It was probably just your PTSD kicking in during the game," Brian began, going to Nathan and giving him a reassuring shoulder rub, "Lets just get you home and forget all about this."

"It was in the briefing room," Nathan continued, "When he kept me behind. He called me by my name. Before any actual war stuff. I'm not crazy, that's what happened."

"I never said you were crazy," Brian replied, then bent down to give Nathan a kiss on the cheek, "Let's just go home. Haley's in good hands."

"Ok," Nathan began, "But that was one of the scariest things that's ever happened to me."

"Then stop thinking about it," Brian said, "Let's go."

Brian grabbed Nathan's paw and walked him out of the bathroom. Haley and Charlie were waiting out in the lobby, and Haley went up to give her father a hug.

"We're sorry Dad," Haley said.

"Yeah Mr. Washington," Charlie piped in, "I didn't know."

"That's fine," Nathan began, "You kids have fun, and bring Haley home at a decent time."

"Yes sir," Charlie replied.

Nathan chuckled and let Brian walk him out of the lobby. They went to their car and got in. Nathan in the passenger seat and Brian driving. They went off, heading back home. "I know what'll make you feel better," Brian began.

"What?" Nathan asked.

"You and I'll have a glass of wine, and watch a good movie," Brian replied, turning onto the long road back to their house.

"That sounds nice," Nathan began, leaning up against the window, "What do you think?"

"About what?" Brian asked.

"Charlie," Nathan replied.

"He's a good kid," Brian began, "I'm fine with it as long as they stay smart about it."

"That's what I thought," Nathan said, "I'm still worried though."

"Why?" Brian asked, "Haley makes good decisions, you know that."

"It's not that," Nathan replied, "It's the fact that he's related to Davis."

"That doesn't mean anything," Brian said.

"You're probably right," Nathan sighed, now looking idly out at the woody scenery, "But I'm still worried."

"Don't be," Brian sighed, grabbing Nathan's paw, "Davis is dead, nobody knows what happened, and he's not coming back. Charlie is completely different from Davis."

"Yeah," Nathan replied.

They remained silent for the rest of the drive home. As soon as they pulled in the driveway and sopped Nathan sprung out of the car. The coyote ran inside the house, not stopping for anything. Brian sighed and followed after him. The coyote was sitting on the couch, illuminated by the tableside light, with the bottle of his medication in his hand, and breathed a sigh of relief.

"That was not the best experience of my life," Nathan scoffed.

"You should have said something," Brian replied, sitting down next to him.

"I didn't want to spoil your guys' time," Nathan began, "It wasn't the game that got to me."

"Yes it was," Brian sighed, "It's all in your head dude, seeing Davis again just made it real to you. It's not like he's haunting you."

"Could be," Nathan replied.

"I was kidding," Brian began, "Lets have that wine. Shall we?"

Brian got up off the couch and grabbed the bottle of Merlot in one paw and the glasses in the other. He sat back down and poured the two of them generous glasses of the wine. Brian handed Nathan his glass and raised his own in a toast.

"Cheers."

Nathan nodded and gulped down the wine. Brian followed suit and threw an arm around Nathan's shoulder.

"So what movie do you wanna watch?" Brian asked.

"I don't know," Nathan sighed, "Movies are your forte, so you pick."

"Shawshank Redemption?" Brian said.

"God I love that movie," Nathan replied, "Sure."

Brian got up with a groan and got the movie playing. He was soon lying behind Nathan, holding him close in a spoons position. The coyote sighed with content and nestled into the warm golden retriever's t-shirt. Brian's muzzle was resting on the side of Nathan's head above the ear.

"You smell really good," Brian began, taking a deep whiff of Nathan's scent.

"Thanks," Nathan replied.

"Did you get some new shampoo?" Brian asked.

"No," Nathan said, "I use the same old stuff I always do."

"I'll have to get me some of that," Brian replied giving Nathan's ear a quick kiss.

"How's work?" Nathan asked.

"Good," Brian began, "I have a patient tomorrow. How about you? You got anything tomorrow.

"I'm going to do a surgical check up on a heart patient, and then I get a shift of OR duty," Nathan replied.

"Fun fun fun," Brian said, "You excited for Monday."

"What's on Monday?" Nathan asked.

"The premiere that you bought the tickets for," Brian scoffed.

"Oh right," Nathan sighed, "Yeah, I'm gonna get scared and make a fool of myself though."

"Yeah, you probably will," Brian replied, and then chuckled.

Nathan yawned and moved his head down to its resting place on Brian's chest. Brian chuckled and wrapped both of his arms around the coyote. Nathan yawned again and closed his eyes.

"You don't mind if I drift off do you?" Nathan asked.

"Not at all," Brian began, "Good night."

The coyote sighed and relaxed. Brian nuzzled his lover's neck. Brian pulled a paw out from under Nathan to switch off the lamp and grab the remote. He stopped the movie and turned off the television. He craned his head back to rest on a couch pillow, and soon drifted off to sleep.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Nathan woke up alone to a grey light. He sat up, and saw that it was storming outside. He stretched, stood up, and walked to where Brian went to talk to his patients. The door was at the end of a dark hallway, and was closed. Nathan walked up to it and knocked gingerly.

"Brian?" He asked, "You in there?"

There was no answer. Nathan opened the door, peering into the ever growing crack. The room was dark and unoccupied. Nathan shut the door, and walked back into the grey-lit living room. There was a flash of lightning, followed by a loud boom of thunder.

"Hello?" Nathan called, "Is there anyone home? Haley? Brian?"

"Me," A voice responded.

"Brian?" Nathan asked.

"No," It responded, "You wish."

"Who are you?" Nathan asked, "Show yourself or I'm calling the cops."

The figure stepped out into the light. Nathan stepped backwards in shock. It was Davis.

"Nathan!" Davis began, "We didn't really get a chance to talk earlier. How are you doing?"

"H-How?" Nathan asked.

"Do you mind if I sit down?" Davis said.

Nathan stammered.

"I take that as a no," Davis replied, walking over and sitting on the couch, "Could I have a drink?"

Nathan nodded and went into the kitchen. He returned a short while later with a bottle of whiskey and two shot glasses. He poured out the brown liquor, and shakily handed the wolf his glass.

"You seem really nervous," Davis said, taking his glass, "Aren't you glad to see me?"

Nathan tossed back his shot and poured himself another. Another lightning-thunder combo went off outside.

"Why are you here?' Nathan asked.

"I was just getting to that," Davis replied, taking a sip of his drink, "I'm here for my nephew."

"Why?" Nathan asked.

"Because he's dating your daughter," Davis began, "I'm here to keep him safe from you."

"Why are you...?" Nathan began.

"Goddamnit Nathan! You with your goddamn questions," Davis spat, "You really think I want to be stuck here with you."

"Shit," Nathan said, "So what do you want me to do?"

"Just be decent, none of that shit you pulled on Makassar," Davis replied, "I have to warn you though."

"About what?" Nathan asked.

Davis set the shot glass down and stood up. He walked back into the darkness.

"Charlie takes after me."

The wolf laughed, the volume slowly lowering over time until it was silent. There was another blast of lightning. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

"Nathan get up, you're missing it!" Brian called, hoisting the sleepy coyote to his footpaws.

"What?" Nathan asked groggily.

"This thunderstorm is huge!" Brian began, "By the way, were you dreaming about something."

"Yeah it was...," Nathan began, stopping as he looked around the room and saw Charlie and Haley, "It was nothing. Just something weird."

There was another burst of lightning followed almost instantaneously by the thunder.

"It's right over us," Brian began, looking intently out the window.

"You're really not supposed to stand by a window during a thunderstorm," Nathan said.

"It's not like I'm gonna get struck by lightning," Brian scoffed.

As soon as he finished speaking a thunderbolt came down from the heavens and hit the lawn, within Brian's view. The lights flickered and Brian moved back.

"I'm going to sleep," Nathan began, "You coming?"

"Yeah," Brian replied, "Good night you two."

The two started up the stairs to their room. Nathan stopped.

"You young lady in your room," Nathan began, pointing up the stairs, he then pointed at Charlie, "You, couch, stay."

Nathan continued up the stairs and Haley and Charlie went to their designated sleeping areas. Once in the bedroom, Nathan stripped down to his underwear and jumped under the covers, followed shortly by Brian. The golden retriever threw an arm around the coyote whose head went down to rest on Brian's chest.

"So what did you dream about?" Brian asked.

"Nothing," Nathan began, "I have to get to sleep."

"Okay," Brian sighed, "G'night 'yote."

"You haven't called me that in ages," Nathan replied.

"How come you don't have a nickname for me?" Brian began.

"Tolol," Nathan stated.

Brian laughed sarcastically.

"Good night wiseass."
