CHAPTER TWO.

Starblaze made Jane more comfortable, then taking out the phaser and communicator shi handed them to her. "I'm going to find help. You just stay here, if any trouble shows up, shoot first. Don't take any chances, ok?" the chakat replied, grimacing as shi said that. Even though shi wasn't expecting trouble, better to be cautious and wary of strange denizens of this land.

"Ok, shoot at the first sign of trouble." Jane replied.

"Tail High Cadet Kirk". Starblaze saluted.

"Tail High Cadet Starblaze." Jane replied, giving a silly salute.

Then shi was gone, through the trees, heading to god knows where, looking for god knows who.

A few minutes later, shi came upon a field with a wooden fence surrounding the edges.Working in the field, were a group of anthrop male morphs, a rabbit, two foxes, three wolves and two tigers. They were busy ploughing, working in the sweltering heat. They wore basic clothing, tunics and shorts.

Starblaze was contemplating wether to approach them, when movement caught her attention. Nine fully armed soldiers, wolves and tiger morphs, entered the field on horseback. The workers stopped and stood in line, work tools on the ground.

They stood, eye's down in submission, hands behind their backs.

The soldiers dismounted, tethered their mounts to the fence and made their way towards the group.

One of the wolf morphs, black fur and one eye patch covering his left eye, wore different coloured armour, it was silver, while the other eight wore black.

Obviously the leader, Starblaze thought.

Then he spoke, but the words were in another language. Curses. Starblaze thought, what a time to forget the universal translator.

The wolf leader spoke, and the fox morph quivered and said something.

Apparently, the leader was displeased with the response, and he backhanded the fox, knocking him to the ground.

Starblaze grimaced, and fought back the urge to intervene.

Shi realized that there was no help from these ruffians, hir empathic powers detect authority and malice in these morphs feelings, and god help Jane if they discovered her, alone, and helpless. The only chance for her to get medical help, is that arctic vixen, she had concern and serenity in her emotions.

Moving slowly backwards, Starblaze slinked back into the forest, but apparently, fate decided to play against hir, for the wind changed direction, and hir scent wafted in the direction of the soldiers, who instantaneously looked in hir direction.

Even though shi didn't know what they were saying, shi knew that it was something along the lines of "Halt or Stop" and shi was not going to do that.

Instead, shi took off, with the sound of the guards in pursuit.

Hir only chance to outrun them, is to loose them in the trees.

Unfortunately, the horse mounted guards knew the area well, so loosing them was not so easy, Starblaze ducked and leapt under and over branches and bushes, down a gully, between trees. But the guards seem to be closing in. Hir only option, is to lead them away from Jane, and double back once the guards loose sight of hir.

Shi emerged from the trees, and spotting a clump of hay bails, shi leapt over them and spun around, phaser at the ready, set to stun.

As soon as the first two guards emerged, shi shot them in the face.

Down they went, immobilized. Shi didn't risk shooting them in the armour in case the armour was to strong and the stun effect was ineffective.

Facial shots were adequate.

The next two guards also were fallen by facial shots. But the other four guards, plus the leader, dove off their mounts and scrambled for cover, trying to avoid the blue beams.

One guard was hit in the shoulder, which spun him around. He yelled something back.(Ha, that was nothing!) and was shot in the face for his trouble.

Panting heavily, Starblaze listened to the leader bark orders. Peering over the hay bail, shi saw two guards split from the group, trying to outflank hir, as one sneaked left while the other crept right, dashing behind what ever cover they could find.

Seeing one guard run from behind a pile of logs and headed for a barn, shi took careful aim and fired. The shot hit him in the side of the face, knocking him down, immobilized.

The other guard suddenly leapt from his cover and bolted towards a fence, and leapt over it, only to land in a pile of mud and horse manure, face first. Spluttering and standing, trying to spit the foul substance out of his mouth, he got stunned in the face, groaning and dropping again face first in the manure.

The leader barked another order, and the remaining tiger guard charged forward.

As Starblaze aimed and fired, the leader took off, mounted his horse, and rode away. Realizing that he could return with more men, the chakat took a chance and fire after him. The beam hit him in the arm, numbing the limb.

"Damn" Starblaze cursed. "Well, at least I am left alone, better check up on Jane."

Checking on the guards, shi searched their unconscious bodies, stripping them of weapons and disposing of them with hir weapon.

Then shi headed back into the woods, slinking from shadow to shadow, keeping an ear and eye out for the leader guard. At first, shi thought that shi was lost, until shi came across the clearing, where the duffle bag was still laying on the ground near the tree, but no Jane.

Cursing, weapon raised, Starblaze searched the area for tracks or clues as too where hir shipmate had gone.

A snapping of twigs made hir turn around, to see a large wolf, armed with a wicked looking fist weapon, charging at hir, hand raised. Shi fired, shooting him in the face. No sooner had he been hit, that a quick blur caught hir eye and the sharp edge of a sword was pressed against hir throat, drawing a little blood.

With dread, Starblaze realized that shi was about to die, here on this new world, alone.

"If you move, I'll slit your throat, understand?" replied a cold feminine voice, that Starblaze recognised to be the arctic foxes.

Dropping the weapon, Starblaze just lightly nodded.

"Good, although, I should kill you for hurting my mate, but, as your friend is in need of rescuing, I think I'll let you live, for now." She replied, moving around to face Starblaze, sword pointing directing at hir throat.

"He's not badly hurt, just stunned. He'll recover in 20-30 minutes." Shi replied, shaking and agitated. "So, who has my friend?"

The vixen regarded hir with cold hatred, then she relaxed, as a strange calmness came over hir. "The local slave merchants, they left here not more than a minute after you left. Apparently, you gave the Crimson Guard a good chase through the forest that they were able to leave unhindered."

"One of the guards got away, unfortunately, a black wolf with an eye patch..."

"Nightclaw, Lord Panthrope's captain of the guard, oh, Shara dearly would love to stuff and mount that venomous traitor."
