Ch3. A New Life Begins.

All night Phillip was tossing and turning, the time when he was going to leave his home and family was quickly approaching and the thought kept his nerves at high. The boy was lying on his bed and was staring up at the ceiling when he heard his alarm clock go off, reaching up he hit the off button and rolled out of bed.

"You ready?" he heard a voice in the darkness.

Phillip turned on the light on his dresser and looked over at his brother that was still lying under his own covers. "Yeah, I think I am."

James tossed the blankets off himself as he got up and walked over to his dresser. "You'll do fine."

"I know, it's just that I'm leaving. I mean I'm actually leaving home." Phillip said sadly.

"Dude," the boy heard his older brother chuckle. "You still can come back on break."

"I know." Phillip replied with a smile as he slipped on a pair of shorts. "It's just that it'll be a while before I can."

After the two got changed they both headed down stairs, Phillip smiled when he saw his parents sitting at the table with a spread of food. "Morning." His mom said as she came up and kissed him on the forehead.

"Morning."

His father was already eating his own meal as he pointed to the food with his fork. "Eat up, it'll be a while before you have a good meal like this."

Phillip didn't need to be told twice as he sat down and began to eat, James grabbed his plate and staked some French toast with syrup before he walked out and into the living room. The parents started giving Phillip advice while he ate his own meal but time was flying by before they all headed out and got into the car to head to the school.

..................................................

Phillip could feel his heart starting to pound in his chest as they pulled up to the front of the school and all of them got out. Phillip's parents both gave him one last hug before the got into the car and headed off back home before they went to work. Phillip and James both went inside the school, James gave his brother a pat on the back before he headed in a different direction to his locker and like all the students made his way to his own class. After stopping by his own locker and grabbing his books, Phillip quickly went to each of his class and returned them back to the teachers. It took sometime but Phillip managed to get all the books returned just before the final bell rang, the boy walked into his algebra class and handed his book to the teacher, in return the teacher gave him a heartwarming smile.

Phillip returned the smile and was about to head to his seat when the speaker system went off calling for him to come to the front office. Without a single doubt he knew that the time had come for him to leave. The boy slowly walked out of the class and down the hallway, he didn't have to look into the classes to know that the students were looking out their doors to watch him walk by, when he rounded the last corner he was met with two smiling faces.

"You ready?" the lion asked.

Phillip gave him a shy smile. "Yes."

"Did you bring anything with you?" Troit's human partner asked. 'Damn it.' Phillip thought while in all the commotion of him passing the test and going to become a User he forgot to bring clothes and other things he might need. So in defeat he shook his head no. The human just chuckled. "Good, then all we have to toss out is the clothes on your back."

"Let's get going." Troit said as they started to walk out. Phillip walked out after them as they both came up to a black SUV. Troit wiggled himself into the passenger seat while his human sat in drivers, the young boy opened the door and sat behind the lion. "I don't see how you can sit in these damn things. Their too small." The lion complained as he had to slightly hunch over.

"It's not that their small, you're too big." The human laughed, Phillip let out a small giggle.

Troit turned around as best he could and faced Phillip with a smile. "Hey, I heard that."

Troit's human laughed even more but eventually he put the car into drive and they were off. Phillip turned to give the school one last look to see that some of the students were looking out the window, some even waved. "Ok, we are taking you to the processing center. It's about a week course depending on how well you do, there you'll get processed into our military and be issued your standard equipment."

"What standard equipment?" Phillip asked slightly curious.

Troit shifted in his seat a bit more. "Oh uniforms, gun, blankets and pillows, hygiene shit, and you get either a sword, axe, or pole arm. You know standard equipment."

"I didn't think sword, axes, and pole arms were standard equipment." Phillip stated.

The human looked into his rear view mirror. "It is for us, trust me guns are nice and can shoot long range but when the Bragins move faster than where your aiming they can get too close to use a gun so the other weapons comes in handy."

"Oh, so how far is the processing center?" Phillip asked.

Troit let out a small groan as he still tried to get comfortable. "It's five fucking hours."

Troit's human and Phillip both laughed at the lion's small problem, the rest of the ride was quiet. Images were going through Phillip's head as he thought about him being with an anthro but he quickly snapped out of his daze when he heard snoring coming from the front seat. Phillip gave a small smile while he looked over to the anthro to see him dead asleep even though he was squashed into the way to small seat.

Phillip looked back out the window, he didn't see much except lots of trees and open fields since they were driving through the country. The moment that he looked ahead down the road he noticed that they were about to pull up to a gate.

"We're here." The human said as he smacked the lion's shoulder to wake his anthro up.

The lion flinched while he opened his eyes and let out a loud yawn. Phillip looked around to see the base had a tall cement wall around it, the vehicle came to a halt when they came up to the front entrance. Phillip looked out the window to see a big bear walk up to the window of the SUV.

"New kid?" The bear asked.

The lion and human both smiled and nodded, the guard looked through the back window and gave Phillip a big grin before motioning his head for them to continue to move forward. Phillip looked around to see that the processing center looked as if he entered a college camps then a base, he looked to see lots of the anthros standing in lines out in the lawns either marching or running around. As they continued to drive he looked out the opposite side of the car to see a building that said cafeteria in big bold letters on the front door. Phillip was amazed at the size of the place when they finally came to a small one story building and parked in the parking lot.

"Let's go kid." The human said as they all got out of the vehicle. Even though Phillip's heart was racing and he was afraid to really move anywhere, the boy kept up with the two as they made their way inside. Phillip looked at the sign next to the door that read Issues and processing. As they entered through the front doors they came up to a desk that had a female human sitting behind it.

"We're here to check in Phillip." Troit said as they walked up.

The female smiled at them before she started to go through some papers, finding the ones she needed she placed it out in front of them with a pen. "Please fill out the highlighted areas."

Troit motioned Phillip to come forward, he did as he was told and came up to the desk to look at the papers. Seeing some of them colored in bright yellow, Phillip started to fill out the ones he knows, like name, age, date of birth, height, weight, eye color, and so on. After going through three pages he set the pen on the papers, the girl gladly took them and scanned them over a few times. Smiling with satisfaction she opened a drawer and pulled out a laminated card that had a thin chain attached onto it. She wrote a number on it in the upper corner with a marker.

"Ok, put this on around your neck..." She handed him the card. "And follow the green line on the floor."

Phillip did as he was told before looking around, he vision came to the floor to see a green and yellow line heading down the hall. Phillip was about to move but he felt a heavy paw on his shoulder. The boy looked up at the lion that gave him an almost a sad expression.

"Well, this is the part where we leave you." Troit said as softly as he could. Phillip's nerves started to get the best of him and he knew the anthro knew since the big lion pulled him into a hug. "Don't worry it's not that bad and I'm sure we'll see each other again one day. Who knows, you might even get sent to our guild." The lion said before letting the human go and taking a step back. His human partner came up and patted Phillip on the shoulder.

"Good luck kid." He said before they both turned and headed out the door.

Phillip turned and slowly walked down the hall. The only noise he could hear was the sound of his shoes on the floor and the chain as the card swung back and forth while he walked. He did as he was told and followed the green line that led him into a small room. Phillip entered and saw another desk with a male fox and human girl seated behind it.

"New check-in?" the girl asked.

Phillip nodded his head, the fox quickly got up and took the card that was around his neck and lifted it up over his head. The anthro gave it to his human and snatched yellow roll from the desk. The big fox came up to Phillip with a smile. "Ok, arms out."

Phillip extended his arms and watched as the fox unrolled the yellow measuring tape and put it around his waist. "32 waist." Then he moved up and placed the tip at his waist and moved it to the floor, after telling her the numbers he continued to move all over his body getting more measurements. After he was done he rolled up the tape and placed it back onto the desk, he then grabbed a small stick and told the boy to remove his shoes, he knelt down and grabbed the human's foot and placed the stick up against Phillip's feet long ways and looked at it a bit while he made sure he had the right angle, he soon move it away from the human's foot and took another measurement but this time across his foot, once satisfied the fox stood up and walked over to the desk. Placing the item back onto the desk while he leaned over and looked down at the card that the girl has been writing on. "He's 10 1/2 wide." The girl nodded and wrote it down before handing the card back to the fox. The anthro grabbed it from her and walked back to Phillip to place it back around his neck like he had it when he walked in.

"Ok, continue to follow the green line and congrats on making User." The fox said with a smile.

"Thanks." Phillip said quietly, still a little uneasy with being here by himself. He did as he was told and followed the green line into the next room.

"New check-in." Phillip heard as he walked into a large room filled with boxes stacked a few feet high with both humans and anthros lined up looking at him. Phillip didn't know what to do when the human closest to him in the line motioned for him to come with a wave of a hand. Phillip slowly moved over while the human turned around and reached into a box that was behind him.

"Put this on your back and move down the line." The human handed him a large black traveling bag and then pointed to the next human next to him, after Phillip put the bag onto his back he moved to the next human who handed him some blankets. After receiving them the boy seemed to get the idea and walked to the next, there he met up with a wolf who tossed a pillow onto of the blankets. The boy walked up to the next person that was another wolf, this time he snatched the card around his neck and looked at it for a bit before moving to the boxes behind him and picked up some of the sleeveless shirts and tossed them into his bag on his back. Phillip continued to move down the line getting pants, boots, boxer briefs, towels, a nit bag, and a hygiene kit.

When he received the last item of socks the tiger standing their told him to go to the hall and follow the blue line. Phillip did as he was told and with his arms full of blankets and pillows and a heavy bag on his back he continued to walk down the hall, it was a long trip but he continued to follow the line till it lead him to a desk. A horse that was sitting stood up and removed the card from his neck. He then moved to a stack of papers sitting on the desk. After finding the one he needed up looked it over and then back up to the boy.

"Ok..." he said in a deep booming voice. "User number 256, your room is in wing G door 755." He said while handing the papers to Phillip. "Go out the doors behind me." The horse pointed to a set of double doors. "And make a left, it's the second building on the right with a big G on the front above the door so you can't miss it. You are to go to your room and wait for further instructions." Phillip took the papers before he walked out the doors of the building. He hung a left and walked down the walkway, it took him a while be he managed to get to the right building. He looked up at the three story complex before he entered.

The boy walked inside to see the front desk had a human and a black bear standing behind it talking to each other till Phillip walked in. The bear quickly looked over to the human and smiled. "What room?" he asked quickly.

"755." Phillip replied softly.

They both gave the young boy a smile as the human pointed behind him. "Go down the hall and up to the second floor, make a right and its right there." Phillip thanked them before he turned and moved down the hall and up the stairs. Like the human down stairs said the door was on his right side as he walked around the corner. Phillip had some difficulty but managed to open the door since his arms was filled.

Once he entered the room he looked to see that the room was a decent size with one other doorway that looked to be the bathroom and two windows. Phillip looked to his left to there was three other boys standing up against the wall with their bags and blankets set in front of them. A lion and human stood side by side in front of them, they all were staring at Phillip as he entered the room. The lion looked Phillip up and down before moving over to him.

"Papers?" The lion asked. Phillip held it out from under the blankets, the lion took them and looked them over before smiling and looking back down at the human. "Ok you're the last to arrive, go stand beside the others with your stuff in front of you."

Phillip did as he was told as was standing beside another human that stood a couple of inches over him. "Alright, quickly get out one pair of briefs, socks..." the human started.

"What are you waiting for?" The lion roared as the human continued to list off things. The boys quickly started to go through their bags to get out everything the human said to get out.

"Shirt, paints, hygiene kit, and a towel. Lay everything out and wait for further instructions." When everyone was done the human looked at them with a stern look. "Ok, I know that you might not smell yourselves but an anthro's sense of smell is very powerful, so to make life easier on their noses, you're all going to take a shower right now. So take one pair of underwear, soap, and towel then head into the door behind me. When done you'll come back out with everything in your hands and only in your briefs."

"You have ten minutes." The lion said. All the boys grabbed their things and rushed in. They entered the bathroom to see that they only had two toilets and a couple of sinks, across was a large room with shower heads and nobs. The three boys quickly started to undress but Phillip didn't move, this was going to be his first time showering in front of anyone and his heart was starting to beat faster. "I wouldn't take too long." The lion said as he walked inside the room.

Phillip set his things down in the corner of the bathroom and started to strip. After his cloth was on the floor he grabbed his soap and towel then moved to the showers. His face blushed red as he moved into the shower to see all the boys soaping themselves down. Phillip moved to the only shower left inside, after hanging his towel on a nearby hook, he turned it on and got underneath while the water was still warming up, he took his soap and started to scrub himself down quickly while keeping his eyes from wandering around.

The boy rinsed off his body then turned off the water, he reached up and grabbed his towel to dry himself off. After he got dried he moved over to his things out in the main part of the bathroom and slipped on a pair of his new briefs. Like the others that were now heading out of the bathroom, Phillip picked up his items and quickly moved out. He moved back to his position and set his clothes, soap, and towel onto the floor.

The lion anthro walked up to Phillip and stood over him for a little. "Good." Was all he said before he moved to the next human, after satisfied he moved to the next. This time he wasn't so pleased. "Go back in and shower again." The boy didn't question the big anthro and did as he was told. The lion continued to the next and nodded before walking back to the human in the middle of the room. They all waited patiently till the boy came back out of the room and was about to walk to his spot till the lion held out his paw to stop him. The lion came back up and smelled the human and nodded. "Better."

The boy continued to move to his spot and set his stuff down. The human walked up, "Change into your new clothes and then toss your old ones into a pile in the middle of the room." This time the boys didn't have to be told as they all quickly started to put on their pants and shirts. "I want your pants tucked into your boots before you tie them."

All the boys finished getting dressed before they put all of their cloths in the middle of the room. "Next is your bedding. We respect the way the anthros live, so like the anthros you all will be sleeping on the floor. I want you to lay a blanket down ahead of you, then your pillow at the head of your bedding. Next lay your last blanket down over top."

The directions were easy as the boys all did as they were told. The lion pointed to the opposite side of the room. "Place your bags over on that wall. Then stand in a file line with your papers in hand." When they were done the lion and human led the group out and down the stairs and out of the building. They continued to walk till they came to a white building that had a sign that said medical. They moved in and were ushered into a room that had rows of medical beds.

"Everyone take a seat and wait patiently." The human told them.

The boys all walked over to a bed and took a seat. Phillip was looking around as he seen a heart monitor, some drawers that would hold random medical things, but what caught his attention was a tray next to the bed with needles. Phillip was still concentrated on them when he caught some movement out of the corner of his eyes. He looked up to see a man sat on a stool in front of him with a huge horse by his side.

"Papers." The human said with an out stretched arm. Phillip handed him the papers then folded his hands in his lap. The man started to go through the papers while the horse grabbed Phillip's arm and started to take his pulse. "OK..." the man said, "according to your medical and dental history you only need two shots and a trip to the dentist in about three months." With that the human slipped on some rubber gloves before he grabbed a cotton ball and rubbed some rubbing alcohol on it to clean the boys arm. The human grabbed the first needle and gave Phillip his shot then the next right after. "You're all good to go, your check-in officers will be waiting for you outside." Phillip thanked the man and walked out of the room, he glanced at the others as he walked passed them but continued on his way till he was back outside. He glanced up at the sky to see the sun was starting to set.

"All done?" the lion asked getting Phillip's attention once more.

"Yes sir." The boy answered.

"Just wait here till the others get done."

To Phillip's surprise the others weren't as quick as he was, the next boy didn't arrive till about fifteen minutes later and a half hour for the next. When the last boy came out the lion lead them around the corner and down the street to an older looking building that could have been a barn, smoke was coming out the top while they entered it. Once the door opened, Phillip could immediately feel an intense heat hit his face.

Phillip looked around to see blades of sorts hanging from hooks all over the room. They continued to move forward till they came to a burner. They looked to see a human standing near holding a piece of metal in the hot coals. "More heat." He yelled.

In a moment Phillip seen some kind of canine run up to it, the anthro stopped a few feet from it and moved his paws forward. The fire from the burner seemed to explode with life as the flames grew higher and heat filled the room. As soon as the canine put his paws to his side the fire died back down to the little embers that were left. The human looked back behind him and seen the look on the boy's faces and laughed.

All of the boys had moved back from their position and wide eyed. "You all look like you never seen an anthro use his element before." The human laughed, as he walked up to the lion and shook his paws.

"I bet they haven't." the lion chuckled. "New check-ins."

"Ah, that would explain it." The human nodded, "I'll go get the old mutt then." The human walked out of sight but soon returned with an older looking black lab.

"Alright you bunch, don't be afraid step up." The dog said with a wave of a paw. The boys all walked up in a single file line, Phillip being at the back. "Now show your hands." He told the first boy, the boy looked at the dog weird, "Trust me." The anthro said, the boy held out his hands but jumped a little when the dog grabbed them to get a better look at them. "Your hands are strong, good muscle in your arms too." The dog looked back at the canine from earlier. "Axe." He told the other dog. The dog nodded and went around the corner to come back with a large axe, he held it out to the human. The boy seemed to be skeptical on taking to but as soon as the dog motioned for the human to take it. When the boy did his arms dropped a bit, feeling the weight of the object.

The lab pointed for him to stand to the side, once the human moved the next kid came up and stood in front of the dog, the dog inspected the human's hands and body before telling the canine to get him an axe as well. The next boy wasn't as built like the other two so after his inspection he was given a 6 foot pole arm. Phillip nervously stepped up the terrier, the dog looked him over. "Not built like the others but I can tell you'll have good endurance and strength soon. I believe a sword would be best for you." This time the lab himself walked off for a little but returned with a long bladed sword in its sheath. Phillip took it after it was offered to him but wasn't surprised that it had a good weight to it. "Ok listen up." The old dog yelled to get the boys attention with great force behind his voice. "As you can see these are not toys, these weapons are to keep you and your comrades alive. They are sharp and you can kill someone with it. If you treat them as such I can guarantee you that they will not hesitate to kick you out, is that understood." All the boys nodded. "Good."

With that said the dog handed them back over to the lion, the anthro lead them back to their rooms where they were instructed to set their gear next to their bags. Phillip looked around the room to see that all of their old clothes have already been taken. Night has fallen when the lion told them to stand near their bedding. The human walked in with a large brown paper bag and looked around their room. "They got everything?" he asked and received a nod from the lion.

"Good, alright listen up." The human said as he turned to regard the boys. "I know we never introduced ourselves earlier but you have to understand that we are on a tight schedule, my name is Ian and this..." he pointed to the lion. "Is my anthro Hallic. Please call us by our names and not sir. While you're here we are going to show you the basics on your weapon handling, more about anthros, and even excursing. But we didn't have time to go to the cafeteria earlier so I brought you your dinner, after you're done eating then get to bed." The human handed the bag to one of the boys and the two started to walk out. "Oh," Ian turned around as he remembered something. "Don't get caught leaving this room unless you have permission. I swear that the punishment will be..." the human thought for a bit. "Not pleasant." With that they closed the door and were gone for the day.

"Man what a long day." One of the boys said as he collapsed on his bedding after grabbing a sandwich from the bag.

"You're telling me." Another one agreed.

The third sat down and was already chewing his food. "So what are your names?"

"I'm Ben." The dust brown hair human said on the end. He was tall and had descent muscle.

"Mike." The next one said, he was a blond, about inch taller than Phillip and a lot more muscle then he has.

"I'm Jacob." The next human said as he took another bite of his sandwich. Jacob was tall but not as big of muscle as the other two, he had dark red hair but a sort of tan skin.

"Phillip." He said quietly after he swallowed his food. They all started to talk about where they came from and what kind of anthro they want to be bonded to. It wasn't long till all of the food was gone and they decided to get some sleep, Phillip had to use the bathroom first but as soon as he was done he quickly removed clothing except for his underwear before slipping under the covers. He glanced outside at the midnight sky while wondering what his family was up too but the long day of getting things done to be checked-in exhausted his body and fell asleep very quickly.

To be continued...
