Flare

Rebellion

Flare lay curled up. In the center of her curl laid Ivan. His head slowly rocked with Flare's breathing. She looked around, making sure there was nothing imposing any danger. When she was cretin that there was no danger she laid her head down on Ivan's legs.

It had been six years since their coming together. Six long years. The first three years they ran from the Holy Kingdom of the Medallion. It had taken over almost all of the other Kingdoms in their land. Only two were left. The Kingdom of Kings and the Kingdom of Lands. Both of which are very small. The past three years Flare and Ivan have been trying to build up an army, a Rebellion to the Holy Kingdom of the Medallion. Their numbers were only in the tens of thousands unlike the Holy Kingdom witch numbers are in the millions, or tens of millions. Their leader is a power mad, crazy and religious nut case. He calls himself the 'Ruler of the Medallion'. He has a magical medallion, some people think that it is one of the two Dragon Stones. Flare thought this a ridicules. They had both been destroyed long ago by the Dragons of the East. The clan dropped them into a volcano.

Flare felt Ivan shiver against her stomach. It was winter, there was snow on the ground. Even Flare was a little cold. Flare nudged Ivan with her snout.

"Master wake up." Flare said. He did nothing. "Master wak- Ivan wake up,"

"I'm up, I'm up." Ivan said and sat up slowly. "What is it Flare Hun?"

"You are cold, sit here and I will get some wood to make a fire." Flare said as she stood.

"Ok, just hurry." Ivan said.

Ivan watched as Flare walked off into the woods. He rubbed his arms. Dam it why did I not get some warmer cloths he thought to himself. He had only shorts, a thin T-shirt and chain armor with him. His armor sat in his pack off to his right. He shivered some more. He brought up his hands to his mouth and breathed into them. He could see his breath. He rubbed his arms some more.

Ivan heard a twig snap and turned. Flare walked back out of the woods with a bundle of wood. She set it down next to him and shoots a ball of fire from her mouth onto it. It burst into flames. Ivan held his hands up to the flames.

"Feel good?" Flare asked him.

"Feels great Hun, thanks." Ivan said.

Flare curled back up around him. They were basically a couple. They never 'mated' as Flare calls it. She said that she may love a human and kiss a human but that she would not mate with a human. She never said why though. Ivan just thought it was something either with her clan or with her pride. Ivan knew that he loved her, but she would never tell him she loved him. She did once, but never after that. It made him wonder if she really dose love him or if she just said that to make him feel good.

"So Flare, you love me right?" Ivan asked her.

"Why do yo-" Flare started.

"Just answer." Ivan said and then added "truthfully." He knew she had to do what he said, he was still her master.

"Yes I do master." Flare said.

"Then...why do you never show it?"

"It seems to be frowned on by humans. And we need people to like us if we want to take on the Holy Kingdom of the Medallion."

"Ya, I guess so." Ivan said with a small sigh,

"What is the matter master?" Flare said and she brought her head up to look at him.

"Nothing, I just want this war to be over with." Ivan said looking into Flare's eyes.

"I know, I do as well." She said. "We have to win, then it will all be over."

"Then we can't lose, losing means death."

"I suppose at this point it does."

Ivan smiled at Flare. He leaned in and gave her a small kiss on her 'cheek'. She gave the best smile she could and nuzzled his neck softly. Ivan petted her down her back. She gave out a low rumbling that Ivan guessed was the same as a cat purring. He smiled again and then laid back with his head on Flare's stomach. He was still a little cold but the gentle rocking of Flare's breathing slowly put him to sleep.

Flare opened her eyes. The sun was just coming up over the horizon. She looked at Ivan, he was still asleep on her stomach. The fire she had made last night had long died out not even embers remained. She looked around, still nothing that seemed to be ant threat to her or Ivan. She gently got up, laying Ivan's head on the ground as she moved. She stood up and stretched out. They had a long walk ahead of them today. They had to go all the way to the town of Loklear. It was a three day walk from the town they had came from, they only had one day left.

Flare looked around the small opening they were in once more then began to walk around in the woods. She wanted to find a deer or some other kind of meat for her and Ivan to eat. She heard a twig or something snap, she turned and looked toward the sound. Nothing was there. She raised her snout into the air and sniffed it a couple of times. A breeze came in. Dam, whatever it was it was up wind of her. She slowly walked toward where she heard the sound. Another sound. Not a normal sound of the forest, it was a blade being taken out of its sheath. The sound was followed by about twenty more, it was hard to tell how many. Flare looked all around her. She couldn't see them, any of them. Assassins from the Holy Kingdom of the Medallion.

Ivan woke up to the sound of three men walking over to him. He sat up and looked over at them. They wore the colors of the Holy Kingdom of the Medallion. He started to say something when he realized Flare was not there with him. He jumped up and grabbed his sword out of his bag. He turned just in time for one of the men to jump at him. The man had his sword out and ready to strike Ivan down. Ivan deflected the blade away from himself then swung at the man. The man was fast. He hit the blade of Ivan's sword with his forearm, Ivan heard a metal ding when his arm hit the blade. He had armor on under his clothing. Assassins, they had to be assassins. Another man steeped up and swung his blade at Ivan. Ivan was able to get his sword around just in time to block. The other man swung. Ivan held up his arm and the blade went down onto it. Ivan felt searing pain. Dam it you idiot you don't have your armor on Ivan thought to himself. Blood ran down his arm, the blade had hit him on the top of his wrist. I probably hit the bone.

The other man kicked Ivan in the stomach. Ivan fell back onto his back, dropping his sword in the process. The man raised his sword above his head about to strike. A blur of motion. The two men were on the ground Flare onto of them. He claws on their necks, cutting deep into them. Blood gushed out of the men's' throats. Blood was also flowing out of Flare. She had large cuts all over her body. More assassins must have came from her in the woods. She turned to the last of the assassins as he started to run. She shot a large ball of energy at him. It hit him and he vanished in a blinding white light. Flare got off the two men's bodies and walked over to Ivan.

"I am sorry I was not here master, I should have stayed and not gone out for food. "Flare said to Ivan.

"Its fine Flare. I will be ok." Ivan said.

"What about your wrist? Hold on I will heal it." Flare said.

"Wait, if you use your healing powers doesn't it slow down your own healing?"

"It does, but you are more important. "

"No no, I will be fine, you have to many cuts on you. You need to heal."

"As you wish master."

Ivan looks up at the sky to check the time. The sun was just above the horizon. They would leave for Loklear in an hour or two. He pulled out some healing supplies from his bag. He cleaned his cut and wrapped it up. It still hurt like hell but he was able to dismiss the pain. He looked over at Flare. She was laying on the ground, her breathing was irregular. A few of the deep cuts had healed up, but most of the smaller ones still remained and still gushed out blood. She wasn't healing fast enough. Ivan got up and walked over to her. He wrapped up a few of the cuts to help slow the bleeding. He sat down next to Flare's head. He slowly rubbed her head trying to make her feel a little better. She said that it always hurt a little extra from the healing.

"You are going to be ok, right Flare?" Ivan asked her.

"Yes....I...will be....fine." Flare said with pauses in between breaths of air.

"I hope you are right, you don't look to very good right now." Ivan said rubbing her cheek.

"I am a lot tougher than I look master." Flare said.

"I know you are." Ivan said with a smile. "Do you think you will be able to walk in an hour?"

"An hour, I will be fine in thirty minutes." Flare said with a small chuckle.

"Good, I hate seeing you hurt." Ivan said softly.

Ivan laid down next to Flare draping his arm over her neck. He stared up into the sky watching the sun slowly rise and the darkness of night vanish. Flare put her head on his chest, nuzzling it softly. He smiled at her and rubbed her head softly. He heard the same low rumbling from her that he had heard her make the night before. Ivan stared up at the sky, watching the time using the sun as a watch. When the hour finally pasted he had to wake Flare, she had fallen asleep.

"Flare, wake up sleepy head." Ivan said as he gave her head a small nudge.

"I'm up master." Flare said opening her eyes.

"Time to get going,"

"O-ok master." Flare said as she stood up.

Ivan stood up next to her. She was barley taller than him when she stood up. He looked at her eyes. She said she was ok but her eyes said that she was in pain. If it was not for they were not being chased he would have stayed longer to let her heal more. Those dam assassins dealt a good amount of damage to her. Cuts all over her body, even one was on her cheek, now it is only a scar. They started walking down the road. The pace was slower than what Ivan would have liked but Flare was hurt and he would slow down for her. Ivan looked out at the mountains in the distance. They were covered in snow, in the winter it can get really cold there but in the summer it felt great. That is why Ivan always wanted to live there in the mountains. Maybe he and Flare could go there after the dumb war was over.

They had been walking all day. The stopped only twice, once to get water at a small creek and to empty their bladders. The town was just around the next bend of the valley they were in. They walked around the bend, what they saw they were not prepared for. The town, what was left of it, was burning. Most if not all of the buildings were bleeding black smoke into the air. Off to the left of the town was the camp of a Holy Kingdom of the Medallion army. There had to be a few thousand there if not in the tens.

"My god, what have they done?" Ivan said shocked.

"They have...killed an entire town." A man who was standing by a tree said, "Everyone, women and children as if they were other solders on the field. Burned all their homes, destroyed everything."

"Are you from this town?" Ivan asked him

"No, I am a traveling merchant. My name is Devin." The man said.

"Nice to meet you Devin, wish it were under better circumstances." Ivan said.

"Agreed, what is with the dragon there?" Devin asked.

"That's Flare, she is my...well I do not know how to put it, she is like my bodyguard I guess my battle partner."

"He is my master." Flare said. "And he also loves me."

"Flare why would...oh never mind. " Ivan said. "It's true, I am her master, and I am in love with her."

"That....is not strange at all." Devin said. "I have seen worse. Well I guess I will be going on to my next town on the list."

"What town might that be?" Ivan asked him.

"The town...Cryptum." Devin said after looking on a small piece of paper.

"Oh, may we come with you?" Ivan asked. "That is one of the towns we have yet to come to and I don't know the way."

"As long as the dragon dose not eat me it is fine." Devin said with a smile.

"She will not....oh I get it." Ivan said.

"Good job, I never got your name."

"Ivan."

"Ivan, good to know, ready to go Ivan? Only an hour before dark and I don't want to be here after night fall."

"I'm ready lets go."

The three of them set out, going around Loklear and the army camp. They only got a few miles past the town when night fell. The sky was cloudy witch made it much darker than normal. They set up their 'camp' just off the road. Devin set up a tent for himself, Flare and Ivan just laid out like they always did. It was much colder that night than the last. They had a big fire set up next to them but it was not help a whole lot. Flare was doing her best to keep Ivan warm, she would hold one of her wings over the fire to get it warm then cover Ivan with it like it was a blanket. Even under her wing she still felt Ivan shivering. Even Flare herself was cold tonight. But after an hour or so she was able to warm up Ivan with her own body heat and her wing. And it took about another hour for her to get to sleep.

Flare was startled by a twig snapping in the woods. She opened her eyes and looked toward the sound. There they were. At least a hundred men, all in the colors of the Holy Kingdom. Flare stood and nudged Ivan with her tail. He woke up.

"What is it Flare?" Ivan asked her. Then he saw them.

Ivan stood next to Flare as the men surrounded them. They all had their swords out and ready. Flare thought they were going to strike when one of them stepped forward. He was different from the rest of them. He was followed by two knights in big fancy looking armor. He was some kind of leader. The man walked up to Ivan. Flare moved herself in-between the man and Ivan.

"I am king Durdul, leader of the Holy Kingdom of the Medallion." The man said. "You are Ivan son of Antoel, the king of Lone, correct?"

"Yes I am the son of Antoel, and I will be the next king of Leon." Ivan said.

"You king?" The man said with a laugh. "No one shall ever be a king of Leon again. Only two kingdoms are left out of my control, and soon they will fall too. Now you and your pet dragon here where my only threat, now we have you."

"What do you mean you're only threat?" Ivan asked Durdul.

"You and your dragon Flare are the two from our prophecies, the ones who are supposed to destroy my kingdom and kill me. Looks like I get to change all that." Durdul said. "Surrender now or we will kill you where you stand."

"We will not surren-" Ivan started to say when Flare moved her head down next to his.

"Remember your fathers wish, live to fight another day." She whispered into his ear.

"Fine, we will surrender." Ivan said and lowered his head.

"Good, I would hate to kill you." Durdul said. "At least for now."

The next few days were hell. Flare and Ivan were dragged all over the country side. They had to sit and watch as towns were burned to the ground while all of the citizens were piled into mass graves. Millions of innocent people murdered by Durdul's command. It hit Ivan hard. All these people dead and he could do thing about it. He and Flare were barley fed or given water. They were lucky to get a meal a day. The days turned into weeks, the weeks into months. When they finally got back to the capital city of the Holy Kingdom they had been captives for three months two weeks and three days. Ivan's small army had tried to get them out twice, both times they were fought back and most of them killed. Ivan only saw one army try to stand up against the Holy Kingdom.

The army was from the Kingdom of Kings. It came out and formed up in front of the Holy Kingdom's army, ten times their size. The army was killed. Those who didn't die where burned at the stake. Then came the town. All the men from the town charged the Holy Kingdom army's camp in the middle of the night. They were able to kill off a good amount of solders but they were all killed in the end. Then the army moved into the town. One night. That is all it took. One night and millions of women and children were murdered, most in their sleep.

Now Ivan and Flare, both tied up and stuck in a cage on wheels, were rolled into the capital city. The city was huge, bigger than Lone by at least a hundred miles or road. They were rolled all the way from the entrance to the castle that stood in the center of the city. The castle was at least twice as big if not bigger than the one at Lone. All along the way people threw stuff at Ivan and Flare. Flare had covered Ivan with her wing and took the beating herself, until Ivan moved her wing. He wanted to share the pain not let her have it all. They road in silence all the way. It took them at least three hours to get there. When they got there Ivan's body was bruised and bloody from the rocks and other items thrown at them.

Ivan felt Flare give him a nudge on his shoulder with her snout. He looked over at her and saw tears in her eyes and rolling down her face. Ivan reached up and wiped away the tears with his hand. She looked down at the floor of the cage. They stopped moving. A large crowd had gathered in the square of the castle. They sat in the center surrounded by guards. Ivan even saw a few knights in their large armor. He saw Durdul step up on a balcony overlooking the square.

"Good evening followers of the Medallion, here today you will get to watch as the two who are meant to kill me , destroy my empire and the Medallion." Durdul said in a load booming voice. "Are killed, and their bodies burned until there is only ashes. Then those ashes will be cast into a stone box and dumped into the sea."

That got the crowd to cheer. More rocks were thrown. Ivan stood up and turned to the crowd of people.

"This city will burn for its sins." Ivan yelled, this brought up a laughter from the crowd. "We will see who is laughing when all of your souls are burning in hell!"

"Take them to the great hall so that I may speak with them once before they die. And keep the guard on them at all times." Durdul yells.

Ivan and Flare are taken out of the cage for the first time in a week. They are moved into the 'great' hall. A throne sat at the top of a stair case. In it sat Durdul. On either side of him stood three knights in golden armor, the royal guard. Around him and Flare stood twenty guards and five knights. Durdul stood and walked down the steps followed by his royal guard. He stopped about five feet in front of them.

"Looks like you are not so big and bad anymore." Durdul said. "How about this, I will give you one chance to pledge your allegiance to me and the Holy Kingdom."

"Never, not after what you have done to all those people." Ivan said.

"Have it as you wish, you and your dragon friend here will die." Durdul said. "But before that I want her powers."

"What do you mean?" Flare asked.

"Fetch me the Medallion." Durdul said.

One of the royal guards took off into another room. A few moment later he came back holding a staff. At the top there was a deep, blood red, stone. The marking on it where from an old dragon clan. It was one of the two Dragon stones. Flare bowed down at the sight of the stone. Every dragon had to bow down before the stone, it has great power over them. The stones have the power to take away anything from the dragons. If Durdul would have wanted he could have taken Flare from Ivan. The guard handed Durdul the staff.

"Now then." Durdul said. "Do hold still."

A flash of red lighting was all that Ivan saw. It hit Flare and then retracted back to the Medallion. Flare collapsed onto her side. Ivan knelt down next to her. She was still breathing just knocked out. Ivan rubbed her side gently and made sure the rolling of her stomach was real. He stood back up and turned to Durdul.

"What did you do to her?!" Ivan yelled.

"I took her powers. Well at least her extra powers." Durdul said with a smirk. "Now all she has is fire breathing once again. Oh and I also took her ability to regenerate quickly."

"I'm going to kill you, you son of a." Ivan started to say as he stepped forward.

One of the guards stepped forward and punched Ivan in the gut. Ivan dubbed over holding his stomach. Durdul laughed at him. He gave the staff back to the man who took it away. Durdul walked over to Ivan and knelt.

"I am going to kill you, and your dragon." Durdul said quietly. "And I will take my time, and start with the Dragon."

"You...son...of...a....bitch...I'm going to kill you." Ivan said in between ragged breaths.

"Guards, take them away." Durdul said as he stood back up.

Two guards walked over to Ivan and picked him up. This had to go perfect. Ivan grabbed the guard to his left sword. He swung it and cut into the guard on his right stomach then swung back to the one on his left getting him in the groin. Luckily they had little armor. Ivan grabbed the sword from the fallen man on his right. All the other men pulled out their swords. The next minute was a blur.

Two of the guards ran at Ivan. He ducked down and sliced into their legs then stabbed their backs. Another two came. Blacked both their strikes and slashed into the back of their necks. This time five came at him. He swung catching two in the kidneys. He felt a sharp pain in his arm as a blade passed through it. He swung again two more in the stomach. The last man was joined by five more. Ivan jumped into their numbers. He swung his swords like crazy. He felt a few sharp pains but he ignored them. When he was done he stood. Twenty dead men around his feet. Now only the knights were left. Ten of them.

Flare stood up next to Ivan. She was a little shaky but she was able to stand. She had tears of anger in her eyes. The knights charged. They were met with a wall of flames from Flare. As soon as the fires hit them they began to scream. only one made it out alive. He charged at Ivan. Ivan swung his swords, he was able to block all of the knights blows but he couldn't hurt the knight with all the armor he had on. Flare used her tail to sweep the man off his feet. Ivan then stabs down using all the force he can. This tip of the sword hits the chest of the armor. It goes in and down. Blood spews from the hole. He pulls on the sword but it is stuck.

Ivan walks over past the burning bodies and up to Durdul.

"I told you, you shall die by my hands." Ivan said.

"If you kill me you die as well." Durdul said.

"Good." Ivan said.

Ivan stabbed his sword deep into Durdul's gut. Blood gushed out from around the wound and came out of his mouth. Ivan twisted the blade in his gut. Durdul fell, dead. Ivan started to limp back over to Flare. He had cuts all over his body none of which were life threatening. The royal guard who had taken the Medallion away walked in. Ivan didn't see him. He ran at Ivan sword out and ready. Flare moved, knocked Ivan to the ground and took a sword to the side. She roared and turned hitting the guard with her front clawed foot. The man went flying across the room and slammed into a wall. The sword was still in the man's hand. Ivan stood and ran over to Flare. he looked at the cut. It was deep and spewing blood out. Ivan ripped his shirt off and made it long enough to tie around Flare. He then grabbed a piece of cloth and laid it over the wound and tied it into place with his shirt.

"Ivan, what are we going to do? He took away all my powers...well the ones that made me, me." Flare said.

"Don't worry I will get the stone and get you back your powers." Ivan said.

"It does not work that way. There are two Dragon Stones one takes the power the other gives." Flare said.

"Fine, we will find the other stone, if that one is still here the other one must be too." Ivan said. "Now wait here, I'm going to go get that stone so they can't use it anymore."

"Hurry, I can hear guards coming."

Ivan nodded to Flare then turned and ran out the door. The holding place had to be near by it only took the guard a few seconds to go there and get back. Ivan went around a corner. There it was, guarded by five guards. They all drew their swords and charged at Ivan. Ivan only had one sword now. He swung it hitting one of the men's sword and ducked under another one's slash. He jumped up turned and stabbed his sword into the back of one of the guards. The guard fell to the ground without a sound. The other guards turned to face Ivan but he was already running up to the staff. He plucked the stone from its mount on the staff and placed it in his pocket.

Ivan turned and ran. He jumped up on the wall and off over the guards. He landed and took off running just as the guards turned to face him. He ran back into the great hall. The guards behind him ran through the door and were greeted by a jet of flames from Flare who was standing next to the door waiting on them. Bells started to chime thought the city announcing it was under attack. Ten bells then a pause then another ten. A sign of an invasion.

"Come on Flare out through the balcony." Ivan said.

Ivan ran out the door to the balcony, Flare on his heels. He saw black smoke in the distance, someone was invading the Holy Kingdom. Ivan jumped onto Flare's back and she ran off the edge of the balcony and into the sky. When they were close enough to the edge of the city Ivan could see what was attacking. The army wore the colors of Lone and were being leaded by the dragon riders, at least seven of the dragon riders and their dragons. The army was huge, it had catapults battering rams the works. Arrows flew up from either side of the walls of the city. An arrow shot up from a ballista and just missed Flare and Ivan. On the end of the arrow Ivan saw a rope. They were trying to stop them from leaving.

"Faster Flare." Ivan yelled.

Another arrow came up, this time it hit Flare in the stomach. She let out a laud roar as the large arrow hit her. Ivan looked under her at the arrow in her gut. The arrow had a rope coming from it, the rope was already soaked in blood. Ivan cut the rope with his sword. He couldn't stop the bleeding from where he was. Flare started to have trouble staying up in the air. They slowly started to go down toward the forest below. After a moment the crashed through the trees and Ivan landed hard on his back his breath knocked out of him. He tried to take in a breath of air but was only able to start coughing. He slowly got up on his knees.

Ivan looked over at Flare. She was laying on her side, the arrow still in her stomach. Blood was gushing out of the deep hit and there was already a small pool of blood under her. Ivan got up and ran over the Flare. Flare looked at him tears in her eyes. She grabbed the arrow in her jaws and yanked it out. Ivan tore a piece of his pants leg off and held it on the open wound. In seconds the ripped piece of cloth was soaked in Flare's blood. Flare laid her head on the ground. Ivan tied the piece of cloth to the wound and moved over next to her head.

"I...I feel dizzy master." Flare said faintly.

"Flare you're going to be ok." Ivan said, his eyes watering up.

"I...I don't...think I will be...Ivan." Flare said, her breaths becoming shallow.

"You can't die on me Flare! I love you." Ivan said hugging Flare's head. He felt tears running down his eyes.

"I love....you too....Ivan." Flare said her voice becoming fainter.

"Please...please don't die Flare I...I can't lose you." Ivan said.

"I'm...sorry master..I tried my best." Flare said as tears ran down her face.

"You...did more than I could have asked for Flare. You did what you needed to do." Ivan said as he started to sob. He kissed her cheek. "Now there's one....thing you need to do."

"What is that master?" Flare asked him.

"You need to live, that's an order from your master, live." Ivan said sobbing more.

"I will...do my best....master...Ivan....my love." Flare said. Her eyes closed and she stopped talking.

"Flare? Please Flare wake up." Ivan said sobbing even more. "You can't die."

Ivan sat there holding Flare's head and sobbing. He heard someone coming up behind him but he didn't care. He heard someone yell "Roc come help!". Ivan didn't move until a large dragon came up and lifted Flare onto his back, Flare's neck was limp and her head just hung there. Ivan's best friend, Blake who was two years older than him ran up to him and lifted him onto the dragon as well. The dragon flew into the sky and toward an army camp. When the landed Flare was taken to the medical tent. Ivan had to go to the command tent.

"Ivan, we need our orders. You are king now. We took back Lone. Now we need orders." A man said, another one of the dragon riders.

"Burn the city. Kill all of them you can. They do not deserve to live." Ivan said as he stopped sobbing.

"Yes sir, right on it." The man said.

"And make sure Flare lives." Ivan said.

"We are doing the best we can Ivan." The man said. "But I do not think it wise to keep this dragon now that you are king."

"Flare is my dragon....my love." Ivan said.

"As you wish sir" The man said. "Wait, you said 'love'."

"Yes I love her. Now make sure she does not die tonight. " Ivan said sternly

"Ye-Yes sir I'm on it." The man said then turned and sped walked out of the tent leaving Ivan by himself.

Ivan sat in a chair. He put his face into this hands and began to weep again. Flare, I lived to fight another day now you must too, he thought to himself, I can't live without you Flare. He sat their crying until someone came into the tent. Ivan looked up, it was Blake. He walked over and hugged Ivan. Ivan couldn't get himself to hug him back he just found himself crying more.

"Ivan, it will be ok, Flare will be fine." Blake told him

"How do you know?" Ivan said sobbing.

"Truth is, I don't." Blake said. "Now let's get you to bed."

Blake let Ivan to another tent. Inside was a bed just for Ivan. Blake laid Ivan down and then left. Ivan felt alone, it was the first time he had laid down to sleep without Flare in years. He sobbed for what seemed like hours until sleep finally came to him. He dreamed of him and Flare, he was old and dyeing. Flare still quiet young for a dragon. She kissed him on his last breath. The dream faded to nightmare. Flare's body laid in front of Ivan. Lifeless, unmoving, cold. He stomach didn't roll the way it should when she breathed. Her ears didn't move to every sound around her. Ivan said her name. She didn't move and look at him like she normally dose. She was dead.

Ivan woke and sat up. He was sweating even though it was cold. He looked around, it was morning. Ivan feared the worse for Flare, had she made it? A tear went down his cheek at the thought of her dead. He slowly stood and walked out of the tent. Blake was standing there waiting on him. It was raining lightly and Ivan saw a lot of black smoke rising into the air on the other side of the forest. Ivan looked at Blake tears still in his eyes. Blake gave Ivan a hug and a pat on his back.

"Ivan, its Flare." Blake said.
