A Story of Sorts

Tyr had just left his house and was on his way to the library to meet up with his friend that worked there. It was a nice day out. Not to hot not to cold around 65-66 degrees with a light breeze that made the trees sway. Tyr was a silver furred timber wolf, which was part of the reason he liked being outside amongst the trees. His heightened senses let him take in the beauty that surrounded him. The sights, sounds, smells, all of it just made him feel great. The breeze felt good against his fur and he glanced around at the forest that was on all sides of him. He enjoyed going on walks on days like this because the world looked so vibrant, so alive.

Tyr was so preoccupied with admiring nature that he arrived at the library in no time. The library was a nice place. It was fairly large and had a good assortment of books. His favorite area was the science fiction section. The library was built nestled back into the trees which surrounded it on three sides. He liked coming here especially when his friend was working, which was often. As he walked up to the large glass double doors he looked at his reflection. He was wearing loose black jeans and a t-shirt which had an image of a halo Spartan on the front. Tyr stopped just outside the doors and took the small backpack from his back, kneeled down, opened it and pulled out a pair of slip on shoes. He always carried them with him because he preferred to go barefoot like most furs did but the humans had rules against going into public places with no shoes on. That meant that every time he was going inside somewhere other than his or someone else's house he had to put shoes on his foot-paws, luckily they were slip on. After putting on his shoes, Tyr grabbed the door handle, swung the door open and walked inside.

Upon walking inside and his eyes adjusting to the change from natural to artificial light Tyr gazed around the room. There were rows upon rows of book shelves along the left wall and center left side of the room. There were four large tables in the middle isle and against the back wall diagonal to the tables were more book shelves. The large circular desk just to his right was the Librarians area. There were only a few others in the library. A couple of them were walking back and forth between the bookshelves; a raccoon was at one of the desks with a stack of books set down before them. That's when he saw his friend Demeter, the little swift fox, stacking books back on the shelf against the back wall. She is 5'6", about 123 lbs, 38C breasts and curvaceous. She is covered with rusty tan fur with the end of her tail being black. Her eyes are a dark emerald green and are made even more beautiful by the small square glasses that rest on her muzzle. She was wearing a red and black pleated skirt with a black button up blouse and small black slip-on shoes. Every time she bent over to pick up another book her medium length hair would fall down in front of her face despite being held back behind her ears by a hair band. Tyr started to make his way toward her as silently as he could manage with his shoes on. He enjoyed sneaking up on her because she always gave the funniest and cutest reactions. Sure they usually ended in her beating him with a book but it was always worth it to hear her squeak in surprise.

Tyr slowly walked up until he was right behind Demeter. He leaned over her bent frame.

"And how are you today?" he asked in a semi-quiet voice.

Jumping in surprise, she dropped the book in her paws and turned on him as she stifled a yelp, "You jerk!"

"That's what I get for seeing if you were doing well or not. That's okay I see how it is."

"Oh hush you," she picked up the fallen book and smacked him with it several times before continuing, "You did that on purpose. Besides I think you like getting beaten."

"Well that may be but I believe that you haven't answered my question yet, so rude." He said with laugh.

"I'm as fine as fine can be, I mean come one, I'm working. How amazing can a be?" she gave him a quizzical stare, "and how are you my fine sir? Is there anything I can help you with today?"

"Well that's good at least. I am doing just fine, I mean it's a great day outside, what more could you want? And there was something that I was hoping you could help me with." Tyr asked.

"What more could I want?" she paused and was thoughtful as she put away the book in her paw, "I guess to be out in the sunlight rather than in here with that stuffy old air conditioner."

"I can't blame you for that. Hey when are you done for the day?"

"Hmmm," she looked at the old fashioned grandfather clock behind the front desk, "around five. Didn't you say you have something you wanted my help with?"

"That should be good. And yes I did say I wanted your help." He said.

"Okay...with what exactly?" she then added as an afterthought, "What should be good?"

For the first time since he had walked in Tyr began to feel nervous as his heart began to beat faster. "Well I was wondering if you would be interested in going to dinner and possibly a movie with me? I know its cliché right."

"I'm sorry, do what? Movie and dinner, cliché? What exactly are you asking?" Demeter narrowed her eyes at him and placed her paws on her hips.

"Well I was asking if you would possibly want to go on a. . .a. " whispers to her, "A date tonight."

"A date? Hmm...I don't know," she began to say playfully as she watched him squirm under his fur, "I mean we are best friends and everything...it'd just be weird...and you didn't say please...I just don't know."

"I know we are best friends, but would it be so terrible? I mean that just means that there won't be the whole awkward quiet part. Oh and PLEASE!!!!" He said putting extra emphasis on the please.

"Hmm...well when you put it that way...I'll make it as awkward as possible," she leaned up to him and pecked his cheek and then flashed him a quick smile as she walked away and around the corner, "pick me up at my house at six."

He stood there a little stunned for about a minute, it felt like an hour. His eyes grew wide and his ears drooped slightly. "Right I'll be there. See you then."

As she disappeared behind the corner Tyr looked around a little nervously, turned and headed for the door. As soon as he was outside and had taken his shoes off her words sunk in. "She had said yes, well she didn't really say yes but that's what she meant." He thought. He was happier than he had ever been before in his life. His best friend the person whom he had had a crush on for years just said yes to going on a date with him. With him! He still couldn't believe that she had said yes. As he walked back to his house he couldn't help but imagine what tonight would hold for him. He only hoped that it would be a night that neither of them would soon forget.
