Paintball Panic

My first attempt at turning my daydreams into words, tell me what you think and who knows there might be more a-comin!

"Hey watch where your goin' Blue-Boy!" A large Doberman said as he smashed into me (not the other way around) knocking my books to the ground and not even offering to help pick them up.

"Watch it yourself asshole," I muttered under my breath so he wouldn't hear and beat the living shit out of me. I picked up my stuff and was on my way to my lunch.

My name is Zack, and if you're wondering why he called me blue-boy, it's probably because I'm a natural blue fox. Yep, Blue, not red or brown like a normal fox. Some people think it makes me look exotic and original, most people however, think it makes me look like a freak, but to me it's a pain in the ass for all the unwanted attention it gives me.

"Lets see, what was that combination again.... hmm.32, 14.... oh, yea 6." I keep forgetting my locker combination every now and again. I was about to reach for my lunch, and replace it with my books when a hand slapped me on the back. Startled, I turned around and hit my head on the swinging locker door. "OWW! Son-of-a-bitch! NIX! Why did you do that!?"

"Hehe, a little jumpy there Zack?" That's Nix, my best friend. He's a slightly smaller than normal cat who is wearing the same school uniform as everyone else: a cheap blue button-up shirt with the schools crest on the left breast pocket and a pair of simple blue pants that are a little too long for him with a hole for his tail. For ladies, it's the same kind of shirt with a skirt and, if you need it, a hole for a tail. "That's not good for the blood-pressure."

"Oh, shut up, I was just...surprised that's all. Oww that's starting to hurt man," Placing a hand on my head where I hit the locker, feeling a small bump forming. "This is just not my day."

"Well at least you got the weekend to look forward to, it is Friday after all, and you know what's happening on Sunday right?"

"How could I forget, I've been waiting all week for this man." He was right, on Sunday Nix, Shaun, and I are going to go to the new paintball field that's just opening up. It's been ages since we last went, were probably a little rusty. "I just hope Shaun can get us there, he's not exactly the most reliable guy around."

"Don't worry, he'll show up, now hurry up or were gonna miss lunch"

"Alright, alright, keep your pants on." I grabbed my lunch, closed my locker, and headed out the door and after I adjusted my eyes to the sudden blast of sunlight, I saw her. The most beautiful fox girl I have ever seen was walking across the path towards the cafeteria. "H-Hi Amy uhh... what's up?" She heard me and slowly walked up to me.

"Your gonna be in a minute" she said as she pressed her hand to my pants, and felt my already stiffening dick. She smiled and kissed me, sliding her tongue into my mouth.

"OW!" Nix had hit me in the back of my head where the bump was and to my dismay, Amy was opening the door to the cafeteria and walking in, not kissing my as I had dreamed.

"Snap out of it and hurry up your blocking the door!" Nix was practically pushing me out of the doorway. "What is with you, whenever you see that girl you totally phase out."

"It's just that she's so...so"

"Beautiful?"

"Yes."

"Sweet?"

"Yes!"

"Out of your league?"

"YE.... HEY!"

"Look Zack, lets face it, you're not exactly Mr. Popular, and on top of that she's turned down every guy who has ever asked her out. People are starting to think she's a lesbian"

That was true. Amy has never had a relationship with a guy, or if she has, she's kept it so that nobody, not even her best friends know about it, witch is kind of unlikely. "Hey I can dream can't I. Besides, you never know I might actually catch her eye someday."

"You would need a miracle for that to happen, and don't come crying to me when things don't work out." We sat down at the nearest bench, scarfed down our food and resumed talking about Sunday, how we were all ready and raring to go, when the bell rang as the warning that the next class is starting in a few minutes.

"See ya Nix, I'll meet ya at 6th period. But I gotta tell ya, I am NOT gonna like this mile run."

"You never do Zack, but you shouldn't complain, you do a lot better than me."

One hour and an exhausting mile run later, Nix and I head in to Mr. C's class, the last class until freedom and everyone, even Mr. C, was ready to watch the clock until the very last second when the bell would ring and we would all rush out at once. Mr. C's class was our obvious favorite because we both know Mr. C out of school grounds and he's a pretty nice guy.

"Ugh it's Friday, HURRY UP YA DAMN CLOCK!" Everyone but Nix and I were surprised at Mr. C's outburst. "Grr if I let you guys out a little early, you wont tell anyone will ya?"

"But Mr. C we've still got 40 minutes left!" Said Christy, a ferret who was sitting in the first row.

"Alright everyone, you want to get on with your lives as much as I do, correct?" Everyone answered yes or some form of agreement. "Then here's your assignment: LEAVE! And try not to call any attention to yourselves as you get out." We all cheered and piled out, all except me and Nix.

"Well that was pretty nice of you Craig, thanks"

He chuckled "wouldn't want ya to kill your brain just a few days from the big trip guys."

All three of us headed out together along the empty halls to the exit. "Hehe thanks, so where are you goin this weekend Craig?"

"Same place as always boys." Every weekend Mr. C, or as we called him, Craig, would go to the same Gentleman's club: The Kitten Club. He can almost always be found there because just like me, he doesn't have a girlfriend to spend his weekends with.

When we got to the parking lot and we all went our separate ways, Nix to his house, Craig to his car, and me to my house. When I got to my house I was greeted with a note from my mother, it read: "Dear, Zack. We've gone out for a while and won't be home until late tonight, dinner is in the fridge, help yourself." Well this isn't news to me, my folks are always away from home but I kinda got irritated when I opened the fridge to read a message from my dad: "sorry I ate your meal, you can make something for yourself right?" well after making a small sandwich I went to my room and checked, for the 5th time this week, if my stuff was all ready. My Autococker was just begging to be used but I was gonna save that for the matches. All my gear was ready for this trip that was only two days away.

Saturday passed slowly. I kept myself busy by going to Nix's house and playing some PS2 games with him. We got a little concerned when Shaun didn't call to tell us if he could take us to the field, but our worries faded when we answered the phone to hear his familiar voice.

"Yo, you guys ready to get shot at with small paint-filled balls that don't even explode half of the time? I sure as hell am."

"So your gonna take us tomorrow?" Said Nix eagerly awaiting his answer.

"Hmm I dunno, I got lots of things to do, I might just have to go alone"

"WHAT!"

"Hehe jeeze cool it, yea I'll get you guys."

"Great we'll see you tomorrow"

"See ya Nix, see ya Zack."

Finally, as the clock ticked further towards the day of reckoning, I left Nix to prepare and left to get my ass to be, for the sooner I fell asleep, the sooner we get to the fields. Strange, I just realized that my parents still have yet to return from wherever the yiff they went. When I called them, they said that they didn't want to be disturbed, so I guess that they will be back when they can. I took a quick shower, got dressed in the clothes I would wear while spraying the enemy with harmless paint, clicked the alarm to go off at 8 and went to sleep.

When I awoke in the morning, I called Shaun to see when he was picking us up but the line was dead. Strange, I looked out the window to see what the sky looked like and to my horror all hell had broken loose. Everyone was shooting each other and bombs were going off. I was knocked to the wall across the room as an explosion destroyed the wall next to me, revealing a tall man's silhouette, he was holding a large tube I guessed to be some kind of rocket-launcher that my wall was destroyed with. He aimed it at me and fired.

"AHH!" I awoke in my bed; the alarm had set off at the right time and saved me from my dream. Panting, I looked around, my room was still in one piece and there wasn't any war going on outside. I got up and ate some breakfast but I still haven't seen my parents, this is getting pretty weird. They aren't in there bed, and they haven't come back last night. I'm starting to get a little worried.

When I got back to my room and picked up my things I heard two consecutive honks of a car horn.

"Hey Zack, you better hurry up were leavin!"

"You better not leave without me!" I rushed up to the car and Shaun opened the door for me. Shaun is a squirrel, a pretty big one. He's a few years older than Nix and I so he can drive us to the field no problem.

"Hey Zack, what's wrong you look worried?"

"Well I had a bad dream and I just got a bad feeling okay, that's all"

"Aww does Zacky need his widdle bwankie?"

"Haha very funny, lets just get to the field already"

It wasn't long until we get there, got loaded up, and headed on to the field when to my surprise I saw a girl putting on her gear. I couldn't believe my eyes it was Amy!

"Hey guys its Amy! She must be here with some friends I guess"

"Oh great, Zack we need you to concentrate on kickin ass, not some girl you cant even get the courage to talk to. Have you even introduced yourself, or even entered her field of vision?"

"Hey I talked to her once, remember?"

"Oh yea, hey Shaun remember, he slipped on that cheese pizza and fell on his ass! He wouldn't come out for days he was so embarrassed!" Annoyed at this, I shot Nix in the foot with a paintball.

"Hey! Save it for the red team alright"

"Wait, red team? But I think I saw Amy putting on a red team bandanna."

"Hehe perfect, were on blue, here ya go" Shaun handed me a blue bandanna I tied to my upper left arm. I put on my mask and all 3 of us headed onto the field to get into position. It was true, as we all got ready for the madness of war ahead, I saw Amy kneeling next to a barrel, aiming at a fellow teammate of mine. I guess she had noticed I saw her, because she moved positions to somewhere I couldn't see. The three of us were going to travel together, covering each other at all times so we would last longer. Bang! The starting gunshot was fired and immediately there were paintballs everywhere. We ducked behind a wooden house, we were gonna sneak behind the enemy and take them out from behind. As we slowly but carefully moved along the edge of the field I was suddenly reminded of my horrid dream. All the death and destruction played over and over in my mind. I was so lost in thought I didn't even notice the enemy not but 20 feet away from me aiming his shiny new Angel. But before he could pull off a shot, Nix got him in the mask four times causing him to miss.

"Pay attention knucklehead! You were almost tagged!"

"O geeze sorry guys. DUCK!" They immediately dived to the floor and gave me a clear shot at the two prone enemy snipers.

"Whew thanks Z."

"No prob, Shaun. Lets just grab the flag already."

"So do you think Amy is still in the game Zack?"

"I hope so, I wanna be the one to tag her. Hey check it out," I pointed to a lone blue guy charging up the field to his demise as six reds were all waiting for him at the end of the path "Poor noob, we gotta help him and fast." We got out of our hiding spot and aimed our guns at the red team, and fired. However, instead of the soft sound of pressurized CO2 rushing out of a barrel chasing a paintball, we heard a loud BANG!

"The ending shot?"

"No way, the match has still got 30 minutes left" I said, that's when we all saw the noob who was rushing the reds. He lies on the floor, hit by a red paintball. Wait a sec, he's been shot! Really shot! I stepped back to talk to the guys when the wooden wall next to me splintered after another bang! This time I was the target but the paint-splattered assailant missed me by inches. He took off his mask to get a better shot, giving me time to pummel him with paint to the face, knocking him down. The guys knew what happened and pinned him to the floor, and knocked him out with a few punches.

Soon the entire field had switched their paint shooters for real rounds and we had ducked behind some cover out of sight.

"What the yiff is goin on! We better get our asses out of here!" Shaun said as he looked out around the corner to see a red guy fall as his arm was hit. Nix and Shaun dove past the opening in the wall to avoid getting shot, but the wall was soon riddled with bullets. I would have to find another way out.

"You guys go, I'll catch up!" they looked at each other nodded and left, but there was something I would have to do before I left, find Amy. Calling for her would only get me shot, so I would have to sneak around. I ditched my mask even if I had it on, a headshot would still penetrate and leave a little more than just a paint splatter. I was deep in red territory thanks to our attempt to take the flag, so I took the red unconscious guys bandanna and put it on. It might make them think I'm one of them. From what I had seen, the entire red team, except a few, was in a gang war with the blue team. I looked through a window and smiled. Amy was still alive and well, but she was cowering in the corner crying. I jumped through window to get to Amy.

"Amy, are you hurt? Are you alright?"

"Z-Zack is that you?"

"Amy we have to get out of here now, things are getting worse" I was surprised to find out that Amy actually know who I was but the urgency in my mind and the pure GET-THE-YIFF-OUT-OF-HEREness gave me a higher priority.

Suddenly three reds came into the room, two in the front with guns and the third came from the window, it was the first guy we saw coming back for revenge. I grabbed the first guys arm with my left and smashed my right elbow into his face causing him to pull the trigger, shooting the guy behind me in the leg. Now with two of them taken care of, there was only one left, but before I could even turn to greet him, my eyes shot wide as a searing pain exploded in my arm. I yelled in pain as I realized that I had been shot, but so did the red team attacker. I looked at where Amy was to see that she was biting him in the leg, giving me a chance to spin-kick him in the face, knocking him out cold.

"Zack are you alright!? You've been hit!"

"I'll be okay, lets just get the yiff atta here!" I ripped off the sleeve of my shirt to see the wound. Lucky for me the bullet had gone in and out, a clean pass. I quickly tied the red bandanna over the wound and grabbed Amy's hand; it wasn't far to the exit.

"Did you come here with anyone Amy?"

"No, did you?"

"Yea but I'm sure they got out okay, come on lets make a break for the lot, these guys are gonna stay here and duke it out to the end I guess. Sound good to you?"

She looks around at the carnage that was once paintball. "Right now I'd rather be anywhere but here." I grabbed her arm with my hand, the one that wasn't shot, and we rushed for the parking lot.

When we got there a familiar van pulled up and a familiar voice called to us.

"Zack! Amy! Get your yiffin' asses in here!" It was Shaun. Nix had opened the side door on the van and we both rushed in with Nix giving us cover with his Spider. It looked more like a Vietnam air rescue than a mad dash to safety. When we all got safely away I calmed down, but more than usual. I was starting to get sleepy and couldn't help but shut my eyes. When I awoke, I was in a white room, a very white room with machinery connected to my arm. I figured I was in the hospital for the bullet wound.

"Hey Zack, how are you?"

"Shaun, Nix, Amy? Hey guys what happened?"

"You lost a lot of blood from running around with that open wound, the bandanna helped, but not a lot."

"Huh who's that?" I turned to see a cat dressed in all white, looking at some documents.

"That's doctor Katz, we rushed you here as soon as you fell unconscious. He says you'll be fine and should just rest for a few days" Amy told me, seeing my confusion.

"Hey Amy, when I get out, you wanna catch a movie?"

"Mmm that's not all I'd like with you Zack" she brought her face to mine and kissed me. Followed by some snickering from Nix and a little "Zack's got a girlfriend!" from Shaun. Suddenly the door opened and a police officer came in holding my paintball gun.

"Mister Zack?" he asked

"Yea that's me"

"I have a few items that we recovered from the gang shootout that may be yours. Your address and phone number are engraved on these, are they yours?"

"Yea that's my stuff. What happened at the fields?"

"There was a gang war, it was the East Side Mad Dogs against the West Side Street Rats. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time."

"Wow that really sucks, are they alright?"

"There are a few casualties, and the field will be shut down for a while, but most of them got out alright."

"When will the field be back up? I can't wait to go again!"
