*Chapter 8 *

*_ _ * I woke up to a loud buzzing sound and I wasn't in the canyon anymore, I was on a cold concrete floor lying on my stomach. I slowly got up feeling extreme pain in every part of my body, "Ahhh man it feels like I got hit by a bus."

I rubbed the back of my neck and felt a cold metal surface, "What the hell!" I felt the metal object with both hands and identified it as a collar, "Ah hell no!!! I'm not some dog they can claim as their own!!!"

I tried to pull it off but it set off an electrical discharge that forced me to my knees, after the pain was unbearable I gave up on trying to get it off and the electrical discharge stopped.

"What happened? Where am I?" an unknown voice answered, "You're in a top secret lab hidden inside Mt. Rainier. Welcome to hell kid." I looked to my left and found that the voice belonged to a husky that had a collar like mine, he had light grey fur covering his body with some white on his chest, belly, face, and paws.

He was sitting on the other side of a thick glass wall, "Kid? You look the same age as me." I growled at him but he laughed and said, "That's true. Names Luke by the way." I only responded, "Gabe, have you seen a dragon around here?"

He pointed at the wall behind me, I turned around and saw Nathan out cold sitting up against the wall with the same collar as me.

I decided to let him sleep and studied the cell we were in, to our left and right there were glass walls, behind us was a steel wall with a metal bench for us to sit on, but what I didn't get was that the front of our cell was completely open, there was no titanium door or iron bars, there was just nothing.

So I ran for it but when I was about to make it out the cell some invisible force threw me back into the steel wall, "What the hell just happened?!" I looked to my left and saw Luke laughing his tail off.

I grabbed a loose chunk of cement from the ground and chucked it to the front of the cell and it was sent back to me but with a much greater force, I looked at Luke and asked, "Is it some sort of force field?" He nodded and said, "They're barriers that throw us back with ten times more force than we put against it. It's to remind us that they are in control, and it really pisses me off." He growled angrily.

I only thought to myself, 'How could this have gone so horribly wrong from me and Nathan enjoying a peaceful evening at a canyon, to prisoners in a lab hidden inside an active volcano.' I shook my head and started to panic, "Hey Luke?" He looked up at me a little pissed I interrupted him from his growling, "What!?"

I cowered a little but stared him down asking, "What do they want with us?" He sighed and hugged his knees saying, "You know how people are, wanting to experiment on things they don't understand. It all started with that damn eclipse, a lot of people changed from humans to animals like you and me, some of the peoples transformations were natural from the eclipse."

I nodded but he started growling furiously as he continued, "Some were experimented on and forced to be what you see now." I interrupted and said, "Wait, wait, wait, you mean there are more of us here?" He responded a little annoyed by my question, "No genius, they only wanted to capture three out of hundreds of other people that were turned into these creatures, what do you think?" I was getting sick of this guys attitude, I decided I would kick his ass later if he doesn't chill, "Okay, okay, no need for the attitude."

I got up and walked to the front of the cell to see if what the husky said was true, and of course he was right, there were four cells on the other side of the narrow room, the only thing that separated us was a walkway.

To the far left was a black panther who was sharpening what looked like one of those ninja knives but I couldn't tell, he was wearing shorts, a blue zip up hoodie and a white t-shirt, he looked about fifteen, the cell next to him belonged to a winged leopard.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing was even possible, a leopard with feathered wings, she was wearing some ripped up jeans, and a smiley face shirt, I still couldn't wrap my mind around the fact that she had wings, she looked the same age as the panther.

I looked to the cell right of her and I saw the most gorgeous, attractive fox ever, she looked about sixteen, she had long brown hair that caught the light, she was wearing dark blue skinny jeans and had a tight white tank top on that hugged her large breasts.

I couldn't stop staring at her, but she caught me and I averted my eyes completely emberassed and blushing crimson red, when I looked up at her again she was giggling and I couldn't help but smile.

That was all the prisoners on that side so I looked to m right and saw that two cells over was a royal cheetah practicing some form of martial arts. He was wearing light blue carpenter jeans, a red zip up hoodie and a plain black shirt. I was impressed by his fighting style and thought, 'I would rather have him as an ally, if we were enemies and go in a fight he would end up kicking my ass.'

I looked back at Nathan as he started waking up, "It's about time you woke up." He shot me a death glare and winced as he tried to get up, "Man my wings hurt like hell!!!"

He shook his head and noticed the collar he was wearing. He was reaching up to grab it but I stopped him and said, "Unless you want a painful electrocution from that thing, don't mess with it." He placed his hands by his side and started grumbling.

"So where are we?" I explained, "We are prisoners in a secret lab hidden inside Mt. Rainier." He started to panic, "Washington!? How the hell did we get so far from home?"

I shook my head, "I don't know all I only remember them capturing us." Our conversation was interrupted when a loud voice announced, "Alright maggots, line up sergeant Rex wants to talk!" All the prisoners walked out of their cell so I assumed they put the barriers down, me and Nathan walked out and lined up with the others.

When we lined up a tall man who looked like he was in his thirties walked in front of us and stopped before us. He had a scar over his eye and he wore a military uniform and boots, there were two guards that stood behind him in light grey uniforms. The man with the scar over his eye began telling us, "I am sergeant Rex, as all of you already know we have captured you all for experiments and other scientific things I don't fully understand. This facility is here to keep you freaks in, there is no escape, and if any of you step out of line you will be severely punished."

This only made me mad, "You can't just lock us up like animals, we have done nothing wrong. You can't take us away from our families or experiment on us for whatever the hell you are trying to accomplish!!!" Everyone gasped at my sudden outburst but I didn't care I was still mad and started growling at Rex, he walked over to me and held up what looked like a remote controller, "You son need to learn to respect your superiors."

"SHUT UP!!! You're not my superior!!!" I went in to throw a punch to his stomach but I was stopped when he pressed a button on the remote that set the collar off. I started screaming in pain and fell to my knees like the first time I was shocked by the damn thing.

I was surprised to hear the winged leopard speak up for me, "Rex please stop, he is new and doesn't know the rules or punishments." I screamed louder as the voltage went up on my collar, "AHHHHHH!!!" the leopard continued, "He just came in last night, the dragon too. He doesn't know please Rex, stop!!!"

She was begging now and Rex replied, Oh is that so? Your sympathy for the boy has touched me but there is zero tolerance for disrespect like that, especially if he went in to punch me."

The collar stopped and I fell to the ground motionless. The pain I was feeling was unbearable but I am forever grateful to the leopard for stopping him.

The sergeant crouched next to me and said, "The next time you show me any disrespect, I won't hold back. You're lucky this leopard stuck up for your sorry ass." I gave him a death glare and tried to get up but he kicked me in the stomach and I fell back down curling up.

"You're all dismissed for lunch, now get out of my sight." When everyone left for lunch, the leopard came over and helped me up with my arm over her shoulder, "I have never seen someone so brave or stupid enough to stand up to Rex like that."

I gave her a nod and said, "I don't know if I should take that as a compliment or an insult, and thanks for defending me, I had no idea he had control over our collars." She nodded and helped me walk over to the cafeteria. I asked her, "What's your name?" she answered, "My name is Sammy and may I ask what yours is?" I answered in a weak voice, "Its Gabe and I want to know why you helped me, I mean you don't even know me."

She smiled and said, "I did it for my own reasons, you were new and I just thought it was cruel that Rex would do that to someone who just came in."

We walked into the lunch room and I took my arm back from her shoulders, "Well thanks for the help Sammy." She smiled and walked over to a table that I assumed had her friends. I sat at a table where Nathan, Luke, and the panther were sitting. Luke began by saying, "That was pretty ballsy of you. No one has ever stood up to Rex." I shrugged and said, "It was no big deal, he was pissing me off anyways."

They all nodded and Nathan said, "I'm glad you stopped me from messing with my collar. That shock looked painful." I looked at the panther, who was all too quiet for me and asked, "So who are you?" He looked up from his tray timidly and answered, "I'm Nate."

I nodded and said, "Gabe. So who's the hot fox with the tank top?" I pointed over to her and Nate replied, "That's Hannah, she was taken away from her parents after her transformation and they did nothing to save her." I sighed and said, "That's so sad. Why wouldn't her parents want to save her?" He shrugged, "When she changed, they thought she was a freak and let them take her away."

I felt sorry for her, "No one should have to go through that." I stood up and walked over to the table she sat at and took a seat across from her, "Hey I'm Gabe." I offered my paw to her and she shook it saying, "Hannah, it's nice to meet you Gabe" But when she said it she sounded exactly like me, I was so confused and asked, "How did you do that?"

She giggled and answered in what I hope was her original voice, "I can immediately copy the voice of anyone and use it as I wish, but I would have to hear someone's voice before I can copy it though." I was impressed by her talent and thought how useful it could be, "Where did you learn to do that?"

She shrugged and said, "It was a result from one of their experiments on me, but they don't know I can do it." I looked around the lunch room wondering if there were any other people with abilities from the experiments, "Does anyone else have special abilities?" she nodded and pointed at Nate saying, "He can solve or hack into any security code using this weird gadget of his, he was the one who got us into the meat locker for more food,"

She pointed at Sammy, "You know that expression 'I can read you like a book'," I nodded and she continued, "She can tell what people are feeling by their movements, like shifty eyes, lips twitching, continually moving fingers, flaring nostrils, pupils dilating and a lot more but I don't fully understand her talent. "

I nodded taking in all that she has told me, "That's pretty impressive," I stood up and offered her my paw again, "Well it was nice meeting you Hannah and I hope I get to chat with you again." She smiled, "It was nice talking with you too Gabe." After she shook my paw I went back to the table where Nathan, Luke, and Nate were sitting.
