Chapter 12: Suddenly Mr. Nice Guy

Tammy's bright green eyes were magnetic as they gazed passed John's head in bitter triumph at David. She cradled John's head to her cleavage and let her head fall back with a shrill cry when he suddenly sucked her nipple. She kept moving her hips in his lap as he suckled her, her slender and shapely body riding gently up and down as John - completely oblivious to the fact that David was watching - sucked his stepdaughter's tits, clutched and spanked her ass, and bit her neck with passionate abandon.

Her eyes still fixed on David's dark expression, Tammy giggled and whispered, "Oh, John, you are a real male! So much better than David!"

John's answer was another hard bite on her neck, followed by more wet sucking on her tits as she continued riding his cock, moving her body gently up and down in his lap as she hugged him. She smiled darkly at David as the squishing noises of their lovemaking grew louder, and suddenly, she started wailing to the ceiling with real pleasure, "Ah, ah, ah, oh, John, fuck me - ah!"

Unable to take anymore, David backed slowly from the room, then turned and heavily climbed the stairs. Watching Tammy fuck his father and enjoy it so thoroughly had been like a thousand tiny needles entering his brain all at once. His mind was pounding by the time he reentered his bedroom, and with unseeing eyes, he flopped on the edge of his bed and just stared at the opposite wall. He felt Amanda's slender paw squeeze his shoulder, heard her ask if they would be getting it on a second time, and he angrily shook her off.

Amanda scowled. "Oh, come on! Don't tell me you're mad at me for making The Littlest Slut cry! We're a couple, Dave, in case you forgot. Just because you fucked her once doesn't mean --"

"You're a bitch, Amanda," David whispered, not looking at her.

Amanda sat frozen on the bed: David had never called her a bitch before. David had never dared. She stared at his back in amazement, and it hit her for the first time just how much he had come to care about Tammy. A flash of jealousy and disgust made her lip curl, made her heart beat hard in her chest the same way it had the afternoon she eavesdropped on Tammy and her little bubblehead friend in the girl's restroom.

"You didn't have to treat Tammy the way you did, you didn't have to rub it in her face and make it look like I didn't give a shit about her feelings!" David twisted around and glared at Amanda. "For the longest time, I thought your meanness was cool. I thought it was you just - I dunno - not being afraid of anyone, being tough. And I admired you for that. But now I see what it really was: you being mean is just you not caring about anyone's feelings but your own --"

"Look who's talking!" Amanda suddenly burst. Sitting in the rumpled sheets with her knees drawn up and wide apart, she glowered at David. She was in nothing but her panties and jersey now, and David was having a hard time ignoring the arousing scent of her pussy. "You fucked your stepsister - your stepsister! - knowing how I still felt about you --"

"We were over and it was your choice!" David snapped. His face screwed up as he went on, "And you know what? Brian was right about you: you are a cunt, Mandy! And not because you're a lesbian. No ones cares about that. You're a cunt because you enjoy hurting other wolves."

Amanda smiled coldly. "I remember a time when you used to enjoy it as much as me, Dave. Tammy used to be one of those wolves! All the jokes you played on her, all the names you called her. You're no better than I am! So you can come off your high horse now. We belong together, baby. When are you gonna see that?"

David looked away miserably, but Amanda grabbed his face, and forcing him to look at her, she kissed him hard on the mouth. David gave in to the kiss, but only for a second. As if he had suddenly remembered himself, he shoved Amanda off, then scowled and dropped his face into his paws.

"Sure, I'mma bitch," Amanda said scathingly behind him. "But you knew that, Dave. You were an asshole and I was a bitch. And that was our thing."

"You know what the difference is between you and me, Mandy?" He lifted his head and looked over his shoulder at her. "I'm not an asshole anymore!"

Amanda couldn't believe it when David shot from the bed and started gathering her things from the carpet. He snatched up her shorts, her shoes, and her socks, and shoving them in her arms, told her to get the fuck out.

"And don't come back," he said, pulling his shirt on. He jerked his belt tight and zipped his fly, adding, "I mean it, Mandy: we're through!"

Amanda rose from the bed and yanked her shorts up. But as if she had no intention of leaving things at that, she came to David across the room, grabbed him, and gave him a hard kiss on the mouth.

David pulled his lips away and squeezed his eyes shut. "I said get the fuck out!"

Amanda just looked up at him, her slanted eyes darting back and forth across his face. She seemed confused, as if she was searching him for something. "What happened to you, Dave?" she said at last. "You've changed. One fuck with that twat, and you're suddenly Mr. Nice Guy? You're never gonna be Mr. Nice Guy! Don't you see that?"

"I can for her - I'd do anything for her!" David blurted, and when the conviction of his words slapped them both, a pregnant pause filled the gloomy bedroom.

"Oh my god," Amanda whispered at last. She sneered at David and shook her head, taking a step back from him as if he had something she might catch. "You're in love with her!"

David turned away.

"You motherfucker!" Amanda whispered angrily. "You finally went and did it: you fell in love with someone else!"

David bowed his head and winced. He knew exactly why Amanda was so angry: when the two of them had been nothing but little pups, they had made a vow that they would love each other and only each other for the rest of their lives. Amanda liked to call it the Pact. They had sealed this pact with their first kiss, and having been only children, had soon wiped that first kiss away with their wrists. But no matter their disgust, the promise had been made: love only for each other.

"Til death do us part," Amanda whispered, smiling sadly. "Remember that? We made a promise, Dave . . ." She closed a careful paw on his arm, coaxing him to turn. When he didn't turn, she dropped her forehead against the back of his shoulder and closed her eyes.

David closed his eyes as well. "Mandy . . . we were just kids! You didn't really think I could only love you forever, did you?"

Amanda's face darkened. "You can't love Tammy forever either, Dave. It doesn't work that way."

"Maybe not," David answered with a shrug, "but I can sure as hell try."

Listening to the adamant note in David's voice, Amanda knew he meant every word. He would never guess it in a million years, but her heart was breaking in that moment: she had sincerely believed that she and David were forever. No matter how many times they broke up, they would always make up. That's what she told herself. For years, she told herself that.

"So it's over . . . for real?"

David swallowed hard. "Yeah."

Amanda nodded against his shoulder and bit her lip to hold back a sob. She was turning for the window when David grabbed her arm. She turned to him, blinking her surprise. He looked on the verge of saying something, but thinking better of it, he pulled her close and kissed her lips instead. It was a trembling kiss, and Amanda felt an ache in her chest, felt the threat of a sob.

"Now go out in that world," David whispered against her lips, "and find some beautiful girl to love. And remember: I still love you."

Amanda closed her eyes happily and they stood together for a beat, their foreheads close. David always had a way of being so kind to her. That was what she secretly loved about him, that kindness. His meanness had always been a front, and she loved that about him too: he was so ashamed of his kinder side.

David stood watching as Amanda climbed out the window, his paws in his pockets as he heaved a breath: it was over. He had finally gotten up the courage to do it! No more wild bickering, no more fights, no more suspicion that she had been with some girl. He was sure of it, that she had cheated on him several times with some unknown female. He had always been sure. And when Brian told him that Amanda was gay, he had not been surprised. But he had never been able to leave her. She was his weakness. She had always been the one wolf who he had surrendered to, who had complete control over him. But after being with Tammy, David was realizing for the first time that he had now surrendered to Tammy. Utterly and completely, he had done that.

Now all that remained was making her see.

When ah man loves ah woman

Can't keep his mind on nothin' else.

He'll trade the world

For the good thing he found.

If she's bad

He can't see it.

She can do no wrong.

Turn his back on his best friend

If he put her down.

When ah man loves ah woman

Spend his very last dime

Tryin' ta hold on

Ta what he needs.

Give up all his comforts,

Go out and sleep out in the rain

If she says, "Baby, that is how it's gonna be!"

So this man says he loves me

Gives me everything that he has

Tryin' ta hold on to my precious love

Crying, "Baby, baby, baby, please don't treat me bad!"

When ah man loves ah woman

He can do her no wrong.

He could never hold

Another girl.

When ah man loves ah woman

Down deep in his soul

She can bring him such misery.

If she's bad,

The fool,

He's the last one to know.

Loving eyes don't ever see.

I was listening to this song a while back, and it struck me just how much the lyrics speak of David's feelings for Amanda. Ha, ha. Love really is blind. Even in fiction. But as soon as David starts falling out of love, he sees Amanda for what she really is. At last.
