Water (Poem)

Water

A swift breeze stirs the branches of the trees. Light hair flows in the wind and I look to the north, the cold icy north where the water shines in the dark.

I walk towards a frozen waterfall, and then past its frozen flow. Behind it was an ice cave but there were none I could save. Motionless, frozen, lifeless and blue; sharp as a sickle, hundreds above, they hang menacingly.

I sped up my pace as I looked around, and cool water dripped on my face. As I walk, the ice talks; echoing, singing, ringing.

Cold creeps, seeping in and freezing small droplets of water. I lie alone motionless, frozen, lifeless, and blue. I could not be saved as now I was part of the whole, the ice flow.

But I am not alone as I solidify slowly in the silence of the rocky cave. I am one part of a larger whole that makes up the ice.

Those who are frozen around me sleep in peace and they support me as I join their ranks.

I support myself as we support each other. Together we form something beautiful. An icy water fall, shining in the dark while a frigid arctic wind blows in. Alone we were mere water droplets.

Once I was the mist, but now I am the river.
