Hello all...If you have not read "A Dragonslayer's Heart" You will be downright confused at this chapter, go back and read it if you can, this is merely the prologue (a short intro) to the beginning of a new book (series) which is in fact posted in my profile. To those of you who are following me with my stories, this is the second series! Enjoy the little morsel of a intro I have made!

Chapter 1 -The Promise-

"I'm fine....I really am...."

"No....I was stupid...I shouldnt have done that... This was all my fault!"

"James...you did what you thought was right...there is no shame in-"

"But you were hurt! You are the mother-to-be of our hatchlings!"

"Shhh....I can take a hit or two...I'm not made of glass you know..."

"..."

"Listen... I cant agree with your actions, but I can agree that you tried to fight for what you knew was right....*cough*... I may have been wounded in the process....but that is no reason to be rampant depressive about me...Get some rest my love...."

"How can I...? How can I do so knowing that I am the reason you were hurt...?"

"Because...I love you all the same....I may lose some blood, break a bone, lose a limb, and maybe my life.... but even in death I will always care and love you...no matter what..."

"Therefore it is my job to make sure that you are safe...."

"Ahh...such a cute little one.... You may have the stamina of a fully grown dragon, but your body simply cannot take the beatings that I can...it should be the other way-"

"No.....please....I'm asking this of you...I would rather die than see you fall from the sky like that again..."

"Tis' a price of victory. You cannot simply walk out of a battle unscathed. You will be touched either emotionally, mentally, or physically by conflict, no matter what happens. But do promise me that you will never engage him like that alone... We're lucky Sarah arrived ...."

"Alex!"

"James....I know what I'm saying.... And I want you to abide by my clearly justified rule...never...do that again....*Cough*"

"I shall...."

....Sarah sighed...listening in on the entire conversation from behind a rather large boulder, shielding herself from view as James and Alex sat around a campfire, which had been built on a cliff, looking out over the destruction that was once a beautiful land. Behind them was a cave, which had been created when Alex had finally awoken, lending her powers to create a shelter for her friends. Jame's former comrade was still in the medical facility of a town beyond the horizon, and they intended to leave him there until he was well again, which they suspected to be in a couple of days, giving them plenty of time to plan their next move.

Sarah, on the other hand...was rather unsettled by the conversation as a whole...she had once been deeply in love with James...Why did he have to run into her...? Why did he have to become a dragon...? Why did he have to go and have kids....? Such thoughts troubled her mind...wishing that she would have been the only one for him...a couple of involuntary teardrops forming at her eyes and eagerly dropping from them to the grass below.... She still loved him...but he merely saw her as a friend now...not one to share his entire life with...She had her dragon...but it wasn't the same. She had no intimate love for her golden ally, nor did he have any for her besides strength of friendship. He was still trying to master language, but was almost entirely unsuccessful, making him almost mute to them. None of this mattered however.... all that mattered was that James' kids were growing in that belly of the green dragon....why couldnt it have been her instead... Another teardrop fell... and it didnt go unnoticed...

"We really should inquire in what would be the fastest route to the temple. I suggest asking Aegis for information..." Alex said, still laying on her side, with which now looked like an extended belly, yet only slightly.

"I shall...he always appears to me in my time of need...." at that time he felt the presence of water in the air....a teardrop from nearby..... "As should I...in the time of peril for a friend...if you will excuse me my dearest...."

Alex nodded, closing her eyes and laying her head down on what appeared to be a soft bed of moss that had been gathered to form a cushion for her head, her entire body resting on a mat of it. With that, james stood up and carefully dodged the fire with both of his feet and tail, before walking to where he sensed the teardrop.... the blindfold still around his eyes. He sighed and shook his head as he saw what he was fearing most... a sobbing woman of his age on her knees with her hands to her face...

"...Sarah..."

"WHY!? Why did it have to be her...?" Sarah replied in a loud whisper...

"I am sorry....you said you understood...." James replied, grimacing.

"I...I do, but that does not mean that I can't mourn what could have been between us...." Sarah sobbed.

"You have been there for me in my time of need...and now its time for me to be here in yours....would you like to talk about it...?" James said, sitting down next to her.

"I..I need you here...now....Just stay with me for a while...I need to feel your warmth like I once did....it will soothe me..." Sarah said, sighing as she wiped some of the tears from her eyes, which were glistening like glass orbs in the moonlight.

"I am sorry for what I have done...But I thought it was time for me to move on...." James sighed. "And...I know it was bad and harsh of me to do so...any true love would have waited to meet his love in the after life...."

"Fate has a cruel way of twisting things...it was not your fault... We were just not meant to be..." Sarah said, her voice raising in pitch as she suddenly burst into tears again, falling into James' outstretched arms, holding her tightly as her cries of despair were muffled by his body.

"There, there... It will be alright. We were not meant to be as lovers....but we were destined to be powerful friends..." James sighed.

"I would give anything to be with you James and you know that!" Sarah said, taking deep breaths between her words.

"Sarah...I love you....but I cant be with you right now....just relax....rest easy in my arms... everything will be okay..." James said softly.

"How can I relax knowing that you knocked up that dragon?! HUH?! How am I supposed to be calm!?" Sarah cried out, this time alerting Alex, from which a loud growl began to rumble.

"You said you understood!" James cried, this time letting her go and jumping up, taking a few steps backwards.

"Its hard for me to contain my feelings, James! You knew this from the start!" Sarah cried, a look of fury and despair contorting her face.

"I want nothing more than for you to simply accept the fact that I thought you were dead..." James said in a soothing voice.

"So you went after another love almost immediately after my death? Sounds like a great true love to me..." Sarah said, wiping her tears from her face.

"Listen human, there is absolutely no reason for you to be angry at him. He may have made some bad decisions, but what is love all about? Forgiving! If you truly love him you will forgive him and accept that fact that he has moved on...You cannot dwell in the past..." Alex said in a stern voice.

All of the commotion had awoken the other dragon, his golden form stirring in the campfire light as he yawned, his tongue curling outward before fluttering his eyes sleepily.

"You're right....I'm sorry James..." she said...looking at the grass below her before falling to her knees once again.

"You have no reason to be sorry....As you said, fate works in strange ways....Sometimes things are bittersweet...but that never means that it cant get better.... And I know things shall grow to be quite better once we have defeated the evils that plague this land...And I want nothing more than for you to be at my side when I slay Talon once and for all...as well as Alex...your dragon...and everyone else!" James said, smiling to her.

This caused a faint smile to appear on her lips, nodding as she wiped the last of her tears from her face, James' arms wrapping around her once again. "We will get through this...I promise..."

"Indeed we shall.... but for now we must get some rest.... no more of this drama...." the golden dragon piped up...startling the rest of them, but before they could reply, he was already asleep again...Everyone shooting puzzled glances at each other while they settled down once again....

*Later that Night...*

A dark figure stood upon the peak of the mountain, overlooking the cliff as she balanced himself with his wings, a black scaled dragon looking down with a devious smile upon his face, fangs sharp as razors gleaming in the moonlight...

"The master will be pleasssssed......."

(Just a little intro to what will be the sequel to the first series :) I will write soon!)
