Nashoba is a typical male timber wolf, he is alone without a pack but has found the wolfess he believes should be his mate. He is very protective, and will defend what he sees as his to the death.

WaterSinger is a female timber wolf, but looks more like a husky both in build and looks. She is also alone, and first met Nashoba while in season, where he took her. She was thrown out of her pack, by her mother, in a rage of jealousy as WaterSinger was absolutely lovely, and had the best howl in the female part of the pack. Her mother in a fit of hatred, had told her that no wolf would want her, she was so ugly etc etc etc whilst Nashoba had been a lone wolf, not by choice for many years. He fnds it hard to trust due to his past but is very elusive about this for some reason.

This takes place the day after their first night of mating, deep inside a valley where no wolves or humans have been seen for five decades. They need to get to know each other now, or will do as soon as WaterSinger comes out of season.

The valley shone with early morning light, and illuminated the valley where two wolves lay entwined, asleep. They both lay cushioned under a tree, alone apart from the birds chirping in the trees above them, and each other.

The male wolf, Nashoba, was first to wake, lifting his head slowly so as not to wake WaterSinger. He knew she would be hungry and slightly sore, and also that his senses would be clear 'til she awoke and her scent would once again pervade his nostrils and cloud his mind. He decided to would go and get her something small, to keep her energy up.

He rose, and sniffed at the air, noting the path they had come last night, amidst the savage matings, and lust-play. Following one from which he coud hear the clear sighing of water, he bent and drank his fill, feeling his belly contract with the clear coldness of the water. Raising his head, he shook it, and sighed deeply. *Nothing for it, I'm gonna have to cross here* resisting the urge to look for something a little closer to his mate, he stepped in and walked across, not hesitating til he reached the other side.

Back where WaterSinger lay, rabbits had come out, taking her regular breathing as nothing to be afraid of. Every once in a while, her legs would twitch, and a rabbit would stop in alarm, only to resume feeding around the peacefully unaware and fast asleep wolfess.

Meanwhile, Nashoba was hunting a boar through the undergrowth, when he stepped on a twig, whilst thinking back to the previous night. The boar, knowing something was stalking it, turned and the sunlight glinted on it's potentially deadly tusks. Deciding the risk was worth it, so that he could return to his mates side once more, he arrogantly revealed himself, to the...empty clearing? He heard a high pitched squeal and yelped as the boars tusks scored along his ribs. Snarling, he turned to face it and realised that the boar had stalked him.

He crouched down, hackles rising and waited for the boar to rush him. When it did he grabbed it by the throat, just avoiding losing his eye, and squeezed til the boar went limp and hung from his jaws, dead. He proudly started back, waiting for his mate to find out how good a hunter he was, and how he could provide food for both her and him, and possibly any pups they had.

When he reached the water, his ribs stung but the water numbed them so it was bearable for him to carry forward the boar. As he reached the clearing where WaterSinger lay, highlighted by the sun, he felt his cock start to stir but battled with his self control not to wake her and take her there and then, before she had had time to eat, drink and stretch.

Nudging her face and throat gently, he watched her with tender eyes, even letting his tail brush her side and belly, trying to wake her as gently as he possibly could, his heart melting at her attempts to stay asleep. *I must have tired her out, I hope she will forgive me for how her first time was*

Feeling nudges at her face and throat, WaterSinger sighed and grumbled, not wanting to wake from the dream in which she was no longer alone. It was only with the tail brush that she started to awake, re-stretching muscles that she had never stretched before. Opening her eyes, she stared straight into a pair of eyes that were so brown it was like she could drown forever and love it.

When she stretched, she shook to settle her fur where it should be and then stared at the wolf in front of her. She saw the boar, with blood on it's tusks, and the wounds on his ribs and started to lick the wound clean. Once this was done she followed his scent down to the water, and drank some, when went slightly deeper to go to the toilet.

When she returned to the clearing, she saw Nashoba, asleep where she had just been laying. She started to eat some of the boar, remembering to save some for Nashoba. When she had eaten her fill, she sat and regarded this handsome wolf that lay as if lost in a dream world.

*How could he want me? With these scars, and how I look. After all its my looks that got me thrown out of my pack. I got told no wolf would want me.* Seeing Nashoba shiver, she did the wolf thing, and lay down next to him settling against him as if she belonged there, which in a sense she did. She allowed her tail to wrap itself round his, and also fell asleep, still tired, and more than a little puzzled.

Nashoba awoke, feeling warm, and slightly stiff where the boar had gouged at him. He, however was more interested in the wolf beside him. He felt he tail wrapped around his, and he could also smell where she had wondered, and spread the scent of her season. Before it clouded his mind completely, he ate what was left of the boar. When he started to awake her, he was panting and his cock was hanging out the sheath, dribbling and fully hardened from just the scent while she was sleeping.

*I must have her now...before...* He was so full of lust he couldn't wait for her to wake, and settled for licking her face to wake her quickly. When she awoke, yawning, her nudged her belly, trying to get her to stand. She couldn't understand his urgency til she was halfway up, and on eye level with his sheath. She stood fully and shivered wondering if this time it was going to hurt.

*Finally she is awake, and i can mount her. I hope i get her with pup, but if not...i can have fun trying at least.* This was Nashobas last coherent thought for a long time, thought just as he licked at her hot entrance and mounted her. She was surprised by how she felt with him in her, and the sensations when he began. She yelped a little when he popped his knot into her, but afterwards settled into throwing herself backwards to meet his bucking and thrusting. Both wolves came, hard, at the same time, and their howls rang out over the forest. Both collapsed panting and whimpering a little with need, but unable to do anything else til Nashobas knot went down.

Their days continued like this, filled with lust until WaterSinger was out of season. They then settle about making this forest their home, talking while they dug out a den.

"I was thrown out my pack, for defendng a wolfess who had killed pups rather than let humans take them" Nashoba told WaterSinger one day while they lay in the last of the days sunlight, warming their fur. "She was put to death, and I was challenged, but rather than fight, I ran" WaterSinger licked at his cheek soothingly as she could see how upset he was.

"My mother told me to get out because I was bringing the packs reputation down. She also told me the truth about me, how I am ugly and sound like a humans dog when i howl. Since then, I have been alone" She told him her story, in quiet and solemn dignity, looking back over herself with disgust. "And I agree with her, I'm hideous."

Nashoba was shocked as he knew, by now that WaterSinger was absolutely gorgeuous, and to say she didn't was an insult to the wolf they had descended from, and who had since risen to the moon, where they paid homage to him. And that she sounded like a DOG? That was the greatest insult, as everyone knew humans dogs were wolves that had been cowardly, or who had turned to the humans to choice, to regret it.

It was a couple of weels later that Nashoba noticed that WaterSinger was dragging behind in the hunt, *I wonder whats wrong with her. I hope she isn't ill...or that she doesn't die...it would kill me now* He waited for her to catch up, as she eventually did, panting and collapsing on her side *That's funny, she is getting a bit plumper now either it's from happiness or...* he shifted in excitement as he realised that she might, right now, be pregnant with his pups, little creatures to carry their line and love on through the days ahead.

Saying nothing yet, he licked at her face.

"You wait here. I'll catch dinner. You must be hot in that thick coat" WaterSinger was quite happy to let him do this, and as he wondered off, she relaxed truely. *I have to tell him soon. At night he will soon feel them moving as I do, and he will be displeased with me. I'm just so glad that i will be part of a family, that I can love unconditionally.* She also knew that soon would come the time to find a den, away and he would be excluded for it for the first 3 weeks of the pups life, til their eyes were open, and their names could be chosen.

She decided to tell him after they had eaten and cleaned each other, as had become their custom. Most wolves would have to look for more food, or would be play fighting, tussling for a rise in the ranks. She lay on her back and felt the moons rays hit her belly, and one of the pups tumbled around inside her, or thats how it felt to her.

Smiling happily WaterSinger cleaned his face off of the blood that had gotten there during the hunt, and their feeding and waited patiently for him to finish cleaning her. "Ermmm Nash, I, have something to tell you, please don't be angry with me" she cowered hating feeling like this.

Nashoba looked at her and saw that she was being serious, and stopped grooming her back.

"What is it Singer? Your not ill are you?" His eyes skimmed over her, hardly daring to hope that this was what he thought it was.

"Well, I'm fairly sure I'm in pup" WaterSinger says watching the changing patterns of moonshadow, unable to watch him in case he looked disgusted, and so missing the ever so joyful look upon his face. An array of emotions flitted on his face, finally arriving at worry, not for himself, but for her and the pups.
