Dark Destiny

2

As I walked down towards the town centre, which was the where the stores where, although I was pretty determined about today, I couldn't help but feel something was...odd, I didn't know what it was though.

'Something wrong?' My father asked me 'I thought you were excited about this'

I snapped out of my train of thought for a moment to answer him 'Yes I am, I just got the feeling I'm forgetting something, that's all' I told him with a smile on my face.

'Oh? Well you should have checked before you left, I gave you enough time' He answered with a slight chuckle.

I didn't answer that, I was to busy looking around the streets to care what he was saying anyway.

After walking a little further, we stopped outside a small coloured tent, my father turned and looked at me 'this is Greya's fortune telling stall. You remember her don't you?'

'No I don't, sorry father' I said with a mass of confusion about my look.

He smiled back and said 'Don't worry Azoth, you were very young when you met her, I didn't expect you to remember' after a small pause he put his hand on my shoulder and knelt down to my level, I could tell this was serious, he looked me in the eyes and said 'Listen Azoth, she will be able to tell if your recurring bad dreams mean anything, bad or good, but you need to tell her everything honestly, she won't hurt you, so you have nothing to be scared about, don't worry about payment either...she owes me a favour' He then stood up in front of me again 'go on, I'll wait out here until your done okay?'

I was actually a little worried, but I nodded my head in agreement 'Right, I'll be back in a bit' I said.

I took a breath and stepped inside the tent, the smell of incense immediately hit me, but it was nice, there was a low table in the middle of the tent, with a few crystals laid out in several patterns, while I was pre occupied with looking around, a older woman, who was a lynx who appeared to be in her early 20's stepped out from behind a bead curtain to greet me. 'Hello child, can I be of any help?' she said to me, her voice was very calming and soft, almost angelic.

I spun around to face her and she walked up to me before I could answer her, she grabbed my hands and looked deeply at my eyes, after a moment of confusion she let my hands free and spoke to me again 'Azoth Windblade, I was wondering when your father would bring you to see me again, my my haven't you grown?'

When she was done, I was dumb struck, how could she possibly tell it was me if she met me as a cub? I had to ask.

'H-how did you know who I was?' I asked, still a bit shocked

She giggled and told me to take a seat at the low table, there were no chairs so I had to kneel, 'I knew who you were for two reasons Azoth, the first being, your eyes are unique and the second being that you look a like your father' she said with a smile 'In case you can't tell, I am Greya'

What did she mean by that? My eyes are unique?

'Anyway, I gather that you aren't here for a catch up, are you? She stated.

I had so many questions to ask, but didn't want to keep my father waiting too long, so I decided to leave the questions for another time.

'Yes, my father told me to seek your help, I've been having these strange dreams lately and I don't understand what they mean, could you help me please Greya?' I asked.

She looked at me with an cheery smile and said ' Of course I can, first of all I need you to explain your dream to me with as much detail as you can, can you do that for me Azoth?'

I explained the dream to her, the darkness, the feeling of Isolation and loneliness, my mother calming me down then turning to ash, the glow of flames and the girl that wakes me up every time, at the exact same point of the dream.

Greya gave me a worried look, 'I think Azoth...the best way to help you, would be to experience the dream first hand, I will see it as you see it, if you will let me do this then hold out your hands'.

I was nervous, what if it was something bad? But I had to know, I held out my hands and she took them in hers, suddenly a rush of energy surged though me as I saw the dream blurred in motion through my head, it felt like she was actually inside my head, once she had seen what I had seen, she released my hands and the flow of energy stopped suddenly and I nearly hit the table, she had a look of fear on her face as she looked at me.

There was an uneasy silence, after a minute or so I decided to ask the inevitable. 'What does it mean?'

She looked at me again and said 'Sometime in the near future, you will suffer a great loss and you will need to stand for yourself and fight for your life'

I was shocked, that is not what I had expected to hear at all, but I thanked her for her help regardless of the result, as I was just about to exit the tent, she spoke to me again 'Azoth, I'm sorry you had to find that out, but please take care of yourself'

'Thank you, take care Greya' I said as I walked out onto the street, the sun blinded me so I covered my eyes to adjust, I took a minute to look for my father, he stepped out from under a tree in front of the tent to come to me.

He could see that something was wrong, he could read mine and my mother's faces like a book, 'Well?' he asked me quickly.

I looked up at him and said 'Sometime in the near future, you will suffer a great loss and you will need to stand for yourself and fight for your life'

'Me?' he asked a bit concerned

'No, that's what she told me' I replied

He looked concerned for me, but decided to act on it 'Well then, I'd better teach you to fight then shouldn't I?' he said proudly.

Before I had a chance to say anything he spoke up 'but first, how about some lunch? It's nearly midday, you were with Greya for over an hour.' He stated.

Wow, had it really been that long already? It didn't feel like it at all. I was actually starving despite the breakfast mother made us, so I accepted and we went to the food market to get some thing together for lunch. We walked past a stall that was spit roasting a wild boar, I think our reactions to the smell of it settled that it was our lunch, he pulled out his coin purse and paid for two medium sized bundles of meat wrapped up in some leaves.

Before leaving he was told something by the young woman who served us, I didn't hear what it was, something about a culling.

We said our farewells and went to sit on a nearby bench to eat our lunch, it was delicious, the meat was cooked so well and wasn't fatty or chewy, which I expected from boar meat. Once we were both done eating, father told me something.

'Azoth, what that girl told me, was about some work for me, there's a group of wild deer that need hunting that are causing trouble to some peoples crops, want to give me a hand, you'd get 20 groats for each deer brought in, unfortunately as the guards want to make this an official culling job, we can't claim the skins or anything without permission.' He informed me

My eyes lit up at a chance for a real hunt, not just a test 'Of course I'll help' I exclaimed.

'Good' he said 'We'll go and see Krolan at the forge's to get you some things you'll need'

A forge meant a blacksmith, a blacksmith meant weapons.

I was looking forward to this already.
