#5 of A Changing Friendship

The train ran down the tracks, stopping for nothing.

Brandon was slightly relieved to be taking a break from flying. He obviously hadn't gotten his wings for it yet.

The train quickly lost momentum as the station approached. As it squealed to a hault, furs poured out of the doors. Brandon and Calvin led the pack, heading straight for a place to sit down.

They sunk into seats of the departure point, waiting for the shuttle, as usual. To their surprise, they were joined by two other furs, a brown rabbit and a brilliant racoon. Brandon recognises them immediately as Alix and Hannah. Alix was the most energetic girl in their school. She was well toned and ready for any challenge. Hannah, on the other hand was the most ditzy racoon to walk the face of the earth. She was a cute girl, and she was acceptionally smart, but her common sense was little to none.

"Hey guys!" exclaimed the usually shy rabbit.

"Hey," Brandon managed to say.

"So... you guys have kept yourselves from everyone else all week. What's up?" Hannah questioned.

"Oh, you know... flying around Europe, touring countries that half of us won't ever step foot in again," Brandon joked. He always seemed to bring a smile to people's faces.

"Yeah, well... we were actually planning on renting some movies in our room tonight. It's gonna be us and a few others. We are gonna split the price, so if you want to join in, it'll be that much cheaper," coaxed Alix. She really wanted to have Calvin all to herself. Something about the white, full coat and those crystal blue eyes made shivers go down her spine.

Hannah was actually more interested in the calico. She was intrigued by how he seemed to be splattered with different colors, rather than being spotted like most calicoes she saw.

"Umm... sure, okay. I guess we'll be there," Calvin said, sheepishly thinking of being in a crowded room, being held close to Brandon.

Then, the shuttle arrived. Mrs. Yelvin ushered the students close and explained the guidelines of the day. Apparently, they weren't going to be at the hotel for very long.

After receiving their keys, Brandon and Calvin hurriedly ran to the elevator to put away their things. Calvin was anticipating what they were going to do. He didn't think it would be something they would get to do until the later part of the week.

Brandon reached the door first, dropped the bag in his left arm, and swiftly swiped the card. They shoved into the door and collapsed into the middle of the entry way. Calvin was first off of the ground, and hurriedly shoved his bag onto the bed. Brandon was off of the ground now and was swiftly doing the same motions as the fox.

They were first to be back in the lobby, panting from the sprint they had made. Slowly, over the next fifteen minutes, fellow classmates trickled down into the lobby. Calvin was anticipating the trip to the Eiffel Tower. He planned for them to share a wonderful moment there, but now that it was rushed upon them like this, he didn't know how to go through with it.

As they loaded back onto the shuttle, Calvin and Brandon sat near the front, so they could have a clear view of what they were approaching. Brandon was ready for their already hectic day to be over. He was ready for what had built up since last night... the most wonderful night that they had had together.

The Eiffel Tower seemed to rise up out of the ground as they approached it. The energy pent up in Calvin was enough to push the bus faster than the speed they were presently traveling.

As the bus screeched and the door popped open, the group piled out. Brandon and Calvin were now accompanied by two other furs that had been talking to them earlier. Apparently, they had taken the friendly gesture from earlier a little too hard and invited themselves to follow Brandon and Calvin.

'Yippee,' Calvin thought to himself. 'Now we'll be able to show our love as openly as the airport security.'

The four made their way to the elevator located at the base of the Eiffel Tower. Brandon, a bit saddened from the fact that there were two tag-alongs, pushed the up arrow. The doors squealed open and the four stepped in, pushing the highest possible level on the elevator as they entered.

Calvin was first out of the metal box. He quickly made his way around the level and held the elevator that would take them to the top.

As they all gathered aboard, Calvin pushed the top floor button. They quickly rose to their new destination.

Calvin was the first out of this elevator, also. He walked over to the railing and looked out across the beautiful city. Brandon made his way and stood next to him. They were glad to be together at this moment, but didn't want to slip up and do something they would regret later. Alix moved over to the two and asked if Calvin could walk over and help her with something. Not really thinking about it, he did as he was asked. Brandon stood there, alone with the wind blowing over his whiskers. He laid his ears down as it passed over them. Hannah moved up behind him now and began rubbing his back. He began to purr when he felt this sensation. He didn't know what to do. He knew that it wasn't Calvin doing it, but he loved how it felt and was like an infant, unable to defend himself.

She quickly stopped the sensation sweeping over his body and joined him at his side.

'What's going on?' he began to think to himself. 'Why is it that I am feeling such happiness right now? I don't love her! I love Calvin...'

His thoughts trailed off as he was forced into a kiss. Her tongue invaded his maw almost on impact. She felt like this was it... he was the one. He felt otherwise.

By now, Calvin had finished what she had asked him, resisting any passes that she made at him, leaving her saddened by the fact that he didn't feel for her how she felt for him. He stopped in his tracks almost immediately.

Brandon was almost enjoying what was happening. He was happy, and enjoyed it... but why? Why was it so... good?

"Having fun?" Brandon heard from over his shoulder.

The kiss was broken and he turned around to see his lover, standing there... hurt. " Calvin! It's not what it looks like, I swear!" He tried to explain, but Calvin just walked over to the elevator and descended to the lowest point, as tears flowed down his face.

As the elevator stopped, he was greeted by three other furs, who looked at him, wondering what had happened. He just moved past them and got on the other elevator, making his way to the lowest level, just above ground floor. He made his way to a chair, and sunk into it, dropping his head into his hands as his mind swam with thoughts. Why would Brandon do such a thing? Why did he look like he was enjoying it? Was Calvin's only part a sick pawn in Brandon's mind games? He tried to clear his trail of thoughts, but found himself thinking the same thing. His frustration was building, and his determination to try and figure it out was mounting. The following night was going to be hell.

Hannah stood there, a questioning glare now fixed on her face. "What do you mean 'It's not what it looks like?' You aren't gay or something, are you?" She obviously had caught on after his slip-up.

"Hannah, it isn't you. I just love someone else. I don't want to hurt you or anything, but you have hurt my relationship by doing this." Brandon tried to find a sense of apology on her face, but she was too busy trying to take in that she was in love with a gay fur.

"Look. I don't give a damn if you are a freakin' supermodel! You mean to tell me that you're gay? And I.. I kissed you? Oh my God!! I tried to make out with a fruit!!" Brandon was now sitting on the ground, his knees pressed to his chest.

Hannah realised about that moment that she had done something beyond hurt. She had mutilated his feelings. She sunk down beside him, her back to the railing, head in her hands.

"What have I done?" she began. "I.. I'm sorry, Brandon. I am so sorry. I wi.. I wish I could take it back. I just never thought abo.. about you that way.. as being gay. I'm sorry..."

Brandon was crying now. He didn't want that sort of thing to be brought up until after they were ready for it to get out. He sniffled and tried to speak, but all that could be heard was small whimpers that resembled words.

Hannah just sat there, thinking about how she was such a terrible person. Alix had made her way over to the two mopy characters, angry from what had happened with Calvin.

"Why are you two so sad?! You had a moment together. I got pushed aside! Fuck this!" She was too angry to think straight, so she just sunk down on the other side of Brandon, trying to think why Calvin would just turn away, unphased by any of her passes at him. She began to cry, too. Her mind was racing like a racehorse. Then, it struck her. Calvin wasn't interested in her because he was interested in HIM!

She raised her eyes and questioned Brandon. "Are you and Calvin... you know... talking?"

Brandon sniffled at this and shook his head.

He had confirmed her thoughts, and she went back to her original position. 'Damn! I knew it! I should have picked up after they walked on the plane in Houston holding hands. Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn!'

She raised her head one more time and said one sentence that seemed to fill Brandon to the brim with reconciliation. "I promise that your secret is safe with me."

Brandon sat there still, he lifted his head and looked at her, tears still flowing, but a smile had crept it's way across his muzzle. "Tha... thank you," he whispered.

Hannah had cleared her trail of thought now and was trying to find her own way to say the same thing. She tapped him on the shoulder, causing his head to turn. "Yeah, me too. I can keep this quiet."

His eyes seemed to gleam at her. He seemed to pounce on her, wrapping his arms around her, embracing her in a hug.

Now, there was only one problem left. Confronting Calvin...

As everyone made their way onto the bus, Calvin was sitting near the back. Brandon saw him and tried to sit with him, but was pushed away. He sat in the seat across the aisle, keeping a gaze on the fox, hoping that things weren't going to end in a screaching hault.

Everyone made their way back to their rooms. Brandon tried to walk with Calvin the whole trip back, but Calvin kept weaving through traffic and around pillars.

Brandon stopped, deciding that it would be better to wait. Calvin, on the other hand went straight to the room, got dressed in his pajama pants, and laid in the bed that didn't have anything on it.

An hour later, the door opened. Brandon entered slowly. He sunk down onto the occupied bed and began to speak. "Cal... I'm sorry for earlier. It wasn't my fault, you have to understand that."

No answer.

"Look, Hannah had feelings for me. She thought there wasn't anything happening between us, and well... she tried to move in."

"It sti- sti- still di- didn't mean tha- tha- that y- you had t- to en- j- joy it so mu- much," the fox choked out, obviously crying.

"I know. I don't know what it was. I was just so... so... happy. I guess it was... well... I think I was happy because I knew that you... you were, and still are, the one."

Calvin rolled over in the bed, blood-shot, teary eyes gazing up at his lover. "Re- really?"

"Really."

They embraced each other in a hug, Brandon rubbing Calvin's back. They sat there like that for thirty minutes, tears pouring down from both furs now.

Brandon slid out of the hug, not breaking it, but allowing himself the view of the fox. "The girls figured it out. They know."

Calvin's ears flattened to his head hearing this, obviously retreating into sadness.

"Hey, don't be sad. They said that they wouldn't tell a soul, okay?" He nudged Calvin's chin, making him look up at Brandon.

There was a small smile across his face now.

Brandon loved this expression and leaned forward, kissing the fox.

They lay there, kissing, holding each other for the rest of the night. They were awoken the following morning by a telephone ring.
