Raised by Wolves plus bonus short story. by Raven Fox assisted editing by Dasher Cheetah: A shuttle from Earth crashed lands on a pre-industrial world inhabited by anthropomorphic wolves. The sole survivor is an infant human male. He is raised by a couple thinking that he's part of the family regardless of his lack of pelt and tail. At the age of thirteen a craft from Earth discovers the planet with the human teenage male living with the wolves as an apprentice blacksmith.

Prologue, the planet Lupus, outside a village.

Teral, a male anthropomorphic male black wolf, gazed up in the dark sky admiring the view of the thousands of stars in the heavens. He breathed in the cool moist air. It went thru his muzzle, cooling the millions of smell receptors after a day being over the forge in his shop. 'It looks like I'll be waiting a little longer for an apprentice.', Teral thought to himself knowing that a few days ago, his mate Christi, had given birth to a female child. He patted the head of the dog following him.

At the same moment, above the planet's atmosphere:

The small craft exited hyperspace and established an orbit around the planet. Inside the craft, the male at the pilot's station looked at his readings turning his head to the female in the passenger area. "Don't worry hon, it's a computer crash. I shall have us up and running again in no time.", he said as he removed a panel.

Sighing, the woman replied,"Just push the on switch for the emergency beacon."

Making an adjustment, the man answered,"Just give me a minute, I think I see the problem." He reached for something. A flash of electricity was followed by his scream,"EEEYAAHHHH!!!"

She watched as her husband went flying across the control station. Before she could push the emergency beacon, the shuttle lurched, throwing her to the nearby wall and knocking her out. Her last thoughts before going to blackness were. "My baby!"

The planet's surface, minutes later:

Hearing a strange sound, Teral looked up to see a streak of orange, getting brighter. "What ever this is, it's going to crash near the lake!", the wolf said to himself, noting the dog was also watching the strange object.

The strange object crashed at the north part of the lake. Teral started to walk to the site, his Karelian bear dog stayed at his side, swiveling his ears to check if anything else was coming. The wolf patted between the dog's ears and said,"Relax friend, must be a meteorite. Those rocks strike here once in a while. I count myself fortunate to witness this."

A female voice spoke up,"Hon, what's going on?"

Turning to the voice, Teral saw his mate coming out of their home. "Christi, It is not much. A meteorite just crashed near the lake. I am going to check it out.", he said, continuing his walk to the site. His mate followed, carrying their baby in a carrier mounted on her back. Inside the pack, the female wolf cub slept as her mother followed her mate. Teral just shrugged, knowing that when his mate wanted to do something, it was impossible to change her mind because she would become as stubborn as one of his dogs trying to get in a rabbit burrow.

Minutes later, the wolf couple was at the site. "That's not a meteorite, it's something else.", said Christi, as the wolfess looked at the strange object. From inside the object, an alien wailing sound came forth. A strange urging went thru her, as she walked to the strange structure.

Teral's hand grabbed her shoulder. "Wait one hon, it might be unsafe.", Teral said in a cautionary tone, holding his mate in check.

The wolfess gave him a look. "I just gave birth a few days ago. I know an infant crying, when I hear one.", she said in a firm tone. Moving forward, she climbed into the strange structure.

Inside, the interior was dark with a couple of areas throwing off sparks. Christi followed the crying sound and saw a couple of hairless bi-peds. Their bodies were twisted in unnatural angles from the crash. They were obviously dead. She saw that the only pelting they had was on the top of their heads but the male had some additional hair on his face. 'It's obvious that the smaller one is a female, but she has small breasts for a nursing mother.', the wolfess thought to her self as she looked at the dead, strange, bi-peds. The crying was coming from a drawer that was open a crack.

Opening the drawer, she saw a hairless infant, crying. It had some clothing on its small pink body. Picking up the small bundle, Christi examined the infant. Looking at it, her eyes were drawn to it's eyes. That were green and flecked with brown. The wolfess next wrinkled her muzzle, smelling a familiar stench. When a cub soils themselves, it is pretty obvious.

A few minutes later, Teral saw his mate re-emerge from the strange structure, holding a pink bundle to one of her large breasts. She looked at her mate with a smile and said,"Well hon, there are two strange bodies inside that what ever this structure is. If you still want a apprentice, Jonnie here might want to be it. Plus, our Terri now has a younger brother."

The wolf looked at the strange, pelt less cub, nursing at one of his mate's breasts. He quietly sighed to himself. Teral knew that if he tried to get rid of this strange infant, he would regret it because Christi was as stubborn as any of the females could be. Accepting his mate's decision, Teral nodded and said."Well, I'll get a couple of my friends to help bury the bodies. We'll move the wreckage of this thing deeper in the woods." Teral stood, looking at the sleeping fur less cub now sleeping in Christi's arms.

Chapter one, thirteen years later.

Kasey grinned to herself, looking at the tan skinned male with brown hair growing past his shoulders. He was swinging a large hammer, striking a glowing piece of metal on an anvil. The black colored female wolf, fluffed her white head hair and loosened the lace on her vest, letting her medium sized breasts show a little. She licked her nose, looking at Jonnie's back muscles ripple as he swung the hammer and felt herself get wet between her legs. 'When I become of age to get a mate, you'll be all mine, Jonnie.', Kasey thought to herself as she walked into the Blacksmith shop.

Jonnie sensed someone entering the shop, when a shadow blocked the sunlight streaming thru the door, into the shop. He looked up and saw a familiar female wolf walk into the shop. "Oh, hi Kasey. What can I do for you today?", the young man asked her.

'Well, you can start by mating with me so I can run my hands all over your hairless body but that will have to wait till you're seventeen.', the wolfess thought to herself, looking at the human's green eyes with her glacier blue ones. Kasey cleared her throat and said,"Can you swing on by later on, to re-shoe our team of horses?" She looked up and down at his slight, muscular build.

The young human looked at the black female wolf, feeling that organ he used to relieve himself, getting stiff. It always grew hard, when he looked at girls in the village. His sister Terri and Kasey were the only girls who talked to him kindly. In the last year, Kasey was always finding excuses to go see him and it had become more common, in the last year. Kasey always made him feel warm inside. "Sure, no problem. I'll swing on by, after lunch.", Jonnie said as he put the piece of metal back in the coals.

Kasey leaned forward and licked his cheek. "See you later.", she said softly, then turned and walked out of the shop.

Jonnie touched his cheek, his eyes following as the wolfess walked out of the shop. While growing up, he had had a rough time when he went to school. Being different, he was the target of bullies in school. The bullying didn't last long because one side benefit of being an apprentice blacksmith is that the human male had gotten strong. He was not picked on after showing he could handle himself. One of the bullies became his best friend, after Jonnie had knocked him out.

A black furred hand touched his shoulder. "What did Kasey want?", asked his father Teral.

Still watching as Kasey walked down the street, Jonnie was slow to answer. "She wants the team re-shod and . . . she kissed me.", Jonnie said with a dreamy tone in his voice.

"Oh really?", Teral replied. He knew that when a wolfess kissed a male, she was claiming him as a future mate and now he was off limits to other females. "She wants the team re shod and that's all?", he said and watched as his son nodded his head. Teral went on to say,"I'll go with you to check your work."

"No problem dad. I would like to have someone to talk to, in case Kasey's dad is at home.", Jonnie said, still talking in that strange tone.

"Can't believe its been thirteen years since Christi found you. I still don't know what you are.", Teral said to himself as he helped Jonnie finish up the work.

Hours later, Kasey's home:

She watched as he rounded the bend to her home but her spirits sank when she saw Teral walking with him and with Jonnie's dog. "Oh man! I wanted him to be by himself.", she said a little too loud and her father heard it.

"What did you say?", asked McWeeney, waking up from his afternoon nap.

"The Blacksmiths are here daddy, to re shoe the team.", Kasey said as she walked to the door.

The older, graying black wolf watched as his daughter walked to the door. 'I am having a talk to my old friend Teral, a little later.', he thought to himself and got up out of his chair.

Minutes later at one of the stalls Jonnie was crouched down, with one of the horses' hooves between his knees, hammering a new shoe in place. He took the pliers and trimmed the nails he used to fasten it in place on the horse. A cold wet something was pressed into his back. "Come on Munier, I am almost done here. Just wait one girl.", the human said to the dog sitting next to him.

Munier was a medium sized dog, with a light gray body and black markings. If a human from Earth saw the dog, he or she would call the dog a Karelian bear dog. Teral and the other male wolves in the village, used the dogs for hunting game. Jonnie had been hunting with his dad since he was eight, as well as beginning his apprenticeship. His father had given him Munier a year before, when he turned twelve.

Jonnie turned and gave the dog a pat between the ears. The young human smiled and picked up the pliers, going back to work. His vision went black as a pair of hands covered his eyes and a pair of soft furry breasts pressed against his naked back. "Guess who?", a female voice said into his right ear, accompanied by the smell of cooked meat.

"Hmm . . . is it Terri, who always has this habit of following me?", replied Jonnie with a snicker.

The hands were removed and Kasey turned his head so that he could look at her glacier blue eyes, framed with white hair. She held his face looking at him, then she gave him a kiss. "Do you want to do something after you have finished with this job?", asked the female wolf.

He bit his lower lip and was about to reply when a male voice said,"Kasey, quit bothering the Blacksmith." It was Kasey's father, McWeeny and he was looking at her.

Kasey grinned at her father and said,"I was just talking to him."

Teral walked up to the group and asked,"Is everything alright?"

McWeeney turned to his friend and said,"I think my daughter wants your son."

Kasey stood behind Jonnie, kneading his shoulders and looking at the two male older wolves watching on as the young human put the hoof he was working on, back on the ground. Jonnie looked at his dad and Kasey's father for any response.

Teral sighed, looking at his son and at his friend. He said,"Well, he is going to turn thirteen in a couple of days. I guess I have to have him make his rite of passage."

Kasey stayed quiet because the rite of passage was usually dangerous. She continued kneading Jonnie's shoulders, feeling his muscles.

A couple of days later, Jonnie's home:

Jonnie looked at his mother putting items in his carrying bag. He saw her worried expression as she packed in the final item.

The wolfess handed the bag to him and gave him a hug and kiss. She said solemnly,"I gave you the items you are allowed. Just remember to be careful out there and do your three days out in the woods."

Jonnie hugged his mother, breathing in the smell of herbs she used in grooming her pelt. He stroked her fur and said,"Don't worry mom, I'll be careful out there. What does Kasey see in me? There are better looking males than I am."

She held his head, looking into his green eyes with her brown ones and told her son,"She likes who you are Jonnie and she has chosen you. I know she's a year older than you but we female wolves have a tendency to choose our mates at a young age. I choose your father when I was thirteen." The wolfess stroked his long brown hair fondly, then turned him loose.

The young human hugged his mother, picked up his pack and left the house.

A few minutes later going down the trail to the woods:

Jonnie looked back to his home, watching the smoke waft away from the clay pipe sticking out of the roof. He shouldered his pack, feeling it settle on his shoulders. With a sigh, the human turned to walk but something knocked him to the ground. Jonnie yelled out,"Damn you Eric! Watch it, you hairy barbarian."

A red colored male wolf laughed, giving the young human a hand to get him on his feet. He said jovially,"What are you up to, you hairless pink creature?"

Jonnie gave the wolf a playful punch and answered,"I just turned thirteen and I am going on my rite of passage. I've got to spend three days in the woods without myself not getting killed."

Eric nodded because he had done the same thing a month ago. He knew that Kasey had feelings for Jonnie. News spreads like wildfire in a small village. "Well, if you survive the next few days in the woods, we'll go hunting as a celebration for us passing our rite!", the wolf said and gave the human a playful punch.

"See ya later, red.", Jonnie replied and turned to continue walking down the trail.

Eric watched as his best, if strange looking, friend walked down the trail. "See ya later pinky.", he called and turned, walking back to the village.

The final day of the rite of passage, in the middle of the woods:

Jonnie looked at the strange box like structure and the two burial mounds beside it. He noticed that the strange structure had been dragged to this location and the graves were old. Looking at the rear of the structure, there was a section that the vegetation had knocked down long ago.

Minutes later, after following the trail, the human was looking at the lake shore and examining what looked like an impact crater. "So that structure used to be here. Why is it in the woods . . . really deep inside them?", Jonnie said to himself as he pondered the question.

A short time later, Jonnie was inside the structure, looking at two seats at one end. He made a miss step, stumbling and in trying to catch himself, his hand hit a panel. Being an easily bored teenager and finding nothing of interest inside, the young human left the structure to build a fire.

A minute after he exited the structure, a light turned on and began blinking. When Jonnie had stumbled, the young human had hit the distress beacon button, turning it on. Unknown to the young man, it wasn't humans who had built this shuttle. The space shuttle had been built by a race of foxes, called Vulpins. They had made first contact with one Earth's Columbia class space shuttles, fifteen years before.

A few minutes later, in a passing freighter:

Stationed at a com console, a human male watched as a stream of data scrolled by on the screen in front of him. A series of beeps called his attention to it. He read the information, noting that the data was from a missing shuttle that had disappeared thirteen years ago. "Captain, I am getting a signal from a shuttle distress beacon." The crew member said into his head set.

The fox in command walked to the human, and took a look at the data stream on the screen. He made a strange sound with his tongue as he read the information, then said,"That's odd, when a shuttle we build has trouble, it activates the beacon. We better pin point the location so we can perform a rescue and salvage. I want to find out why it took thirteen years for that distress beacon to activate."

The human nodded as he heard the fox's commands to the bridge crew. After fifteen years, the human who noticed the signal was still trying to get used to the foxes, whose ship had appeared near the space shuttle Endeavor. He had been fifteen years old when that encounter took place. 'I am still trying to get use to that musky smell from them too, but I do love the vixens.', the human said to himself. He was also living with a vixen he had married a few weeks ago.

"Sir, the distress signal is coming from a planet that can support life. We should be making orbit in one hour and I am reading life forms on that planet.",a human female said from her console, giving the human male a look. Human females didn't like it when human males went to live with vixens on the Vulpin's home world.

Hour's later, freighter orbiting the world of Lupus:

The captain of the freighter looked at the screen showing a pre-industrial town. "This is very interesting. The dominant life forms are morphs like us. There are wolf types but I don't see any sign of the humans from that shuttle.", the fox said, still studying the wolves going about their daily routines.

The human female exclaimed,"I found the shuttle, captain. It is located two miles north of that large lake, a mile west of that town." Her voice changed pitch as she said,"There are two burial mounds near the shuttle."

"Wait one captain, you'll want to look at this.", the human male said, pointing at his screen.

Looking at the human's screen, the fox saw a young human male walk to the village. The Vulpin watched as the human boy hugged a female wolf and gave her a kiss.

"Eww, that's disgusting! He's kissing her.", said the human female.

"Stand down crew member. You're on probation for that remark.", the fox said to the human female, glaring at her.

"Imprinting, captain. That human boy I would say, is a little over thirteen years old. His parents were probably killed in the crash and I think a wolf couple adopted him as an infant.", the human male said in an even tone of voice, watching the boy and the female wolf walk to the town.

The captain nodded, letting out a sigh and said,"Well, I better contact some personal on my world as well as some from Earth. I am not authorized to do anything at the moment, so the best thing for me to do is to report this to the proper channels." He then gave orders to the bridge crew.

The large freighter returned to its previous course and resumed its journey to Earth.

A few weeks later, at the lake shore:

Jonnie sat on a log next to his friend Eric, looking at the night sky. He noticed something odd in sky. It seemed that three stars were moving across the sky. "Yo Eric, I must have been working to hard today because I see a few stars moving."

The red colored male wolf looked at the sky for a few minutes and shook his head. "I don't see anything. I think the heat has gotten to you today.", Eric said and ruffled Jonnie's long brown hair. He teasingly said,"Just take it easy tomorrow pinky. You're starting to see things."

The two males laughed and continued to watch the night sky. Unbeknown to them, a ship had just achieved orbit. The personal knew that it was night at the site they were headed for and they would wait until morning to have a shuttle make a landing and attempt first contact.

Government ship Endeavor, orbiting Lupus:

The vixen in command looked at the main screen, showing a town. She made that strange sound with her tongue, watching the town. She then asked,"Any energy readings?"

The male at the scanning station shook his head and reported,"None ma'am. I would compare this to medieval Europe or the Amish. The air quality readings are showing burnt hydro carbons from kerosene. So the highest bit of technology might be lanterns to light the inside of those houses."

"Alright, the way to do this is to have the first group comprised of us. We kind of look like them.", the vixen said as she looked at the human with her green, cat like eyes. She continued,"I know there's a human down on that planet, but he's the only one."

The human at the scanning station nodded, sniffing and smelling the captain's musky scent. He watched the screen, seeing two figures walking from the lake. Turning a knob, the image zoomed in. He reported,"Captain, I see the human! He's walking with a male wolf."

Bending over the human's shoulder, the vixen watched the image of the two males. In the screen, a black female wolf with white hair walked up to the human boy and gave him a kiss. "That's interesting. I think he thinks, he's one of them.", the vixen said with an even tone in her voice. "At first light, we'll send in a team to make the first contact. We'll also salvage the shuttle to see what caused it to crash and I want a scan of those burial mounds.", she said and turned to watch as her bridge crew went to work. 'Hmmm, a human who thinks he's a wolf.', she mused.

BOUNUS SHORT STORY.

First Contact by Raven Fox.

Fifteen years before the events of Raised by Wolves and two years before the shuttle's crash.

Year 2004, high Earth orbit. Space shuttle Endeavor leaving ISS:

Brandon looked out the ship window, watching the space station grow smaller as the distance increased. He looked at the green/blue sphere of the Earth and thought,"Well, in two days, we should be home on Earth."

"Looking forward to eating junk food again.", Brandon said.

Danny, the pilot laughed, looking at the readings of the flight instruments.

"Endeavor, this is Houston. We're getting some strange readings near your position. Please rotate ninety degrees on Y axis and tell us what you can see.", said the voice from mission control on the radio.

"Rodger Houston! Endeavor copies and is performing course change to check on that strange reading nearby.", replied Brandon, looking out of the windows. "What the hell!?", he blurted out, shocked by what he was observing.

Miles ahead of the shuttle was a large black spiral, that had lighting crackling in it's center. "Houston, this is Endeavor! There's some sort of strange phenomenon near by. It appears like some form of lighting storm near us. We're taking pictures of it right now.", Danny said into the radio.

"Rodger Endeavor, we're.....", and the radio cut out.

"My god!! Something is coming out of it!", Brandon said as he watched a large white shape start to emerge from the storm.

The ship that emerged from the storm, looked like a modern day cruise ship with the hull cut off it! But the ship must have been a few miles long and it was heading for the Endeavor. Danny made an emergency maneuver that caused the space shuttle to go under the ship. Brandon noticed as they passed by, instead of the graceful hull of a ship, the underside looked like a flattened letter V. "Man, that thing is big!", the shuttle commander said, looking at the six blue plumes of the ship's engines.

Inside the bridge of the Titan:

A male fox regained consciousness and looked at the readings. "Damn! What just happened to us?", he called out.

"We're not at the home planet . . . we're somewhere else.", the vixen at the scanning station said as she looked at her readings. She then said,"Check out that cool looking planet, Sandy."

Sandy looked at the planet and said with worry,"Lea, get a star reading. I don't recognize this planet."

The vixen nodded and replied,"Stand by Sandy." She typed on the keyboard looking at her screen before saying,"Crap, something scrambled the navigation computer. We're far away from the home planet. More like a few thousand light years off course! Give me a few minutes, then we're on our way home."

"Wait one, we've been spotted! This planet is inhabited and one of their spacecraft is now flying below us.", shouted Sandy. Knowing protocol, he knew had to do something. Sandy called out,"Activate the tractor beam."

Space shuttle Endeavor a few miles from behind the Titan:

"Damn, that's a huge damn ship!?", replied Brandon to the captain as he watched the strange ship growing smaller behind them. He prayed,"I hope they are friendly."

The shuttle shuddered and started to go backwards toward the ship. "Houston, this is Endeavor. We're being drawn into a very large, alien spacecraft! I repeat, we are being drawn into a very large alien space craft!", Danny shouted in to the radio as a large door opened on the ship. It was not known if the message got thru as there was no response from the ground. He flipped a switch that lowered the landing gear. The man looked at Brandon, who was grabbing the controls and tightening his harness.

A few minutes later, the Titan's landing bay:

Danny looked at the place where the Endeavor was settling on its landing gear. As the shuttle had been drawn into the landing bay, they suddenly experienced gravity! He flipped a few switches as he began safeing the propulsion systems. The pilot looked at the commander sitting next to him and asked,"So? Any bets on what they look like?"

Brandon looked at the surroundings, examining the place. He noted the beings must be roughly humanoid life forms, due to some structures looked like the ones off a large ship. He then answered,"Twenty bucks says they look like those grays that abduct people in their sleep. I can't believe they taken this space shuttle." The commander listened as Danny tried the radio again.

Outside the landing bay door:

Sandy sighed, looking at the door and thinking. The fox had gotten an earful from his commanders because they had not planned on contacting Earth for another seventy years. Back on the home planet, there was already an investigation being started and a government vessel was in route to his ship to have computer experts go over the navigation computer. "Well, I guess we should go in there and say hi. I am glad the United States space program astronauts speak our tongue.", he said as the door opened.

Inside the Endeavor:

"Oh my god! The furry community is going to love this.", said Brandon, looking at the male anthropomorphic fox walking into the landing bay.

"He looks like Fox McCloud from the game Star Fox. I wonder if the vixens are blue and look like Krystal?" Danny said to himself looking at the fox who is examining the space shuttle. "Crap, the vixens look like any vixen you see drawn at furry web sites." The pilot said in a whisper as a vixen walk in the landing bay.

Outside the Endeavor:

Sandy examined the delta winged craft parked in the landing bay. "Man, that's one primitive spacecraft. Talk about a museum piece.", he said to himself, looking at the alligator skin pattern of the heat resistant tiles. The fox looked at the windows hoping to see any sign of the crew members. A female hand touched him, making him jump.

"Sorry Sandy. Do you want me to get an access ladder?", asked Leia, looking at the space shuttle.

Sandy nodded, watching a hatch open. "It must be getting hot in there.", he said as he watched the hatch. A few minutes later an access latter was wheeled up to the shuttle. "Well, time to talk to our guests.", he muttered and started to walk closer to the shuttle. "Endeavor . . . That's a unique name for a spacecraft."
