Hey, this is my first time posting any stories. I hope who ever reads this enjoies this and any pointers would be great =)

I woke up with a shock, gasping for air. Looking back to my little sister and brother seeing if they were alright, I see them resting peacefully together. I had that dream again with my mother trying to talk to me, her throat was slashed all around her neck...She was saying "Protect them from him and be strong," and that is when I would woke up with horror. I share the same bedroom with my little brother and sister ever since mom died. I sat there looking at my little siblings remembering what it was like when mom was alive. My mom, a proud grey husky with short fur, always took care of us and our dad. My dad is a tall husky with long black fur with golden eyes, always full of spirit. I laughed at how every time I would get hurt, I would always cried and my mother would come to me with her gentle voice, sing to me until I stopped sobbing. Hard to believe that it was three years since her death, but I remember that night clearly.

I was watching and helping Alicia and Frank with their homework as we heard the roars of the heavy rain storm outside. But we all flinched as we heard a knocking at the door. I looked up at the clock in our living room to see it glowed 8:33 pm. Wondering who it could be at this time of night, I told the little ones to go get ready for bed. They obeyed unconditionally and headed off to the bathroom. I slowly went up to the door and heard that loud knocking again. At that time I was a short husky with my dad's beautiful black fur and golden eyes, so I couldn't look out at the peep hole. I opened the door with my guard up just in case it was a bad guy, but I was soon blinded by police lights.

I looked up to see a tall Doberman looking down and asked me in a deep, musky voice, "Are you Lucky?"

I answered back "Yes th-that's me, what can I do for you officer?"

"Son, I do not know how to tell you this, but first, is your dad home?" the police officer questioned me.

I looked down wondering where he was because he hasn't been home all day. "No officer, it is just me and my little brother and sister.

The police officer sighed a long sigh and kneeled down to me and with an apologetic look and said those dreaded words, "Son, your mom, she was murdered."

My eyes widened and took a few steps back taking another look at the officer. I could tell that he was not lying because he started to tear up before I did. "No, she said that she would be back before dad got home," i said with a voice that was chocking on holding back the tears.

"Listen,-" "NO, she said that SHE WOULD BE BACK BEFORE DAD GOT HOME!" my sadness quickly turned into a heated anger with my fist shaking with my long black tail up. Trying to deny what the cop was saying until I heard some familiar voices.

"Lucky? Is you ok?" I looked back and saw Frank and Alicia hiding behing the kictchen wall. "Where is mommy?" Frank asked. I walked over to them and pulled them into a tight hug and whispered into their little ears "mommy is no longer with us," as they started to cry onto my grey Hollister hoody. Trying to hold back whimpers myself, I had to be the strong one here. What felt like hours of crying and sobbing, I started to hum moms song, the one she would sing to me to make me stop crying. They just looked up at me with tears still running down their face. The police officer asked if it was alright if he stayed until my father got home and he took our sobs as a yes. I went back into my bedroom with the little ones and laid them down.

"Now I-I'll be right back." I studdered.

"No please, don't leave," Alicia commented. "Don't leave like mommy, we promise we be good!" Frank said as they started to whimper. I was quickly at their side and told them both, "I will never leave you guys, I am your b-big brother," as I looked into their hazel eyes. The same eyes that mom had...I laid there and I guess I fell asleep with them until I heard the front door opened again. I got out of my bed without the little ones waking up and i opened my door and saw the police officer and my dad talking. I tried to make out what they were saying but I couldn't hear them, so I moved closer without them noticing.

"So you have no idea who could have done this to your wife? Do you guys have any enemies?" The cop questioned.

"No officer, I have no idea. But please leave, I just want to be with my kids right now." Butch, my dad replied.

The officer nodded and left like my dad asked. As soon as he was gone, "Lucky, can you please come here," my dad called out to me. I winced at how serious he was when he called my name.

"Y-yes dad, I am sorry for listening, i-"Shut up!" I stood there in fear of what was happening. "Things are going to be different around here and you are going to listen to me and do everything I say, got it?" I tried to answer back but then he barked out, "GOT IT!?"

"Yes sir," I quickly answered him. "Good, now the first thing, if I EVER catch you with another boy, you're going to be sorry. I stood in shock and wondered how did he know? The only person I ever told was mom and it was earlier that day...

"Lucky, are you ok?" curiously asked Alicia. With her question snapping me back into reality, "Yea, I am fine, just go back to sleep," as I started to pet her.
