Car meets tree

[This will be my first work ever submitted out there. I apologize for any odd choices of word or repetition, or poor grammatical use if that is the case. I intend this to be the first part of a series, but I'm uncertain how motivated I am at the present.]

The arguably worst thing was probably the screeching sound of metal being crushed like paper. My car's engine compartment had been easily torn open by the large tree-log that had fallen off the truck ahead.

But now, everything was just ringing in my head. Screeching rubber-tires had been the prelude to another sudden impact as another tree, this one stationary, crashed directly into my side.

It was... strange. Everything was. It had only hurt as an initial jab, but then it had gone. The pain wasn't there. Just a bizarre sensation of wood and metal both inside and outside of my body in places I find hard to describe. Where were my feet for that matter? They weren't there at all. It was like someone was touching me everywhere else but below the knees.

Despite this, however, I didn't feel distressed. I felt... giddy. Light-headed. Faint. Yet conscious, eyes even remaining open enough to see what had happened to the car... and me. Sort of. I could move my head, but little else. I didn't mind. The way I saw the twisted metal driven deep into my upper right arm. How my left was trapped in the frame of the car door's frame. My hand was touching the elbow of the same arm. I think I could move the thumb.

Sadly, I couldn't see my lap at all. The entire dashboard and steering wheel occupied it. I couldn't really tell very well what had happened there, and strong euphoria from what I presumed was adrenaline just made everything... funny, in a way. A sort of schadenfreude.

And apparently, time had passed. The sharp glare of blinking blue lights were blearing my vision. It stung. And the screaming alarm and roaring engines of firetruck, police and ambulance was making it increasingly difficult to follow what was happening.

I whimpered at the bizarre flow of sensations as minutes later an engine started throbbing somewhere close nearby. Its vibrations were reverbating through everything about and into me. And everything was starting to hurt as it made the trap holding me buzz, metal and wood twisting and trembling violently against my wounds.

Why did this hurt? I tried to squirm, a sharp whine of pain escaping my pouting lips. Eyes were tearing, watering, as I started weeping uncontrollably, and could only barely make out the large fireman standing in front of the car, making large sounds while waving his arms about.

A sharp, sudden but lasting pain started through me and made my vision burn white as an overwhelming pressure I didn't know had been there was relieved from my arm, forcing a scream out of me as I started shaking uncontrollably.

However, that was short lived. Suddenly everything was very quickly faded without warning. Voices turned muffled. My head lolled back against my will, resting against the battered shoulder.

... ... ...

A small stinging sensation against my neck made me shiver just lightly, and I let out a small, tired groan as I was forced to return to consciousness. But I didn't want to. I wanted to sleep some more. Everything was heavy. However, small sounds were disturbing me from returning to slumber.

I sleepily reached an arm up to try and remove my long hair from my face, then be ready to rub my eyes as I opened them. But while I did feel a warm paw doing what I'd intended to, my eyes opened startled as I had immediately realized it decisively wasn't my own, much less had I been able to move it at all.

Blinking my eyes repeatedly a few times, the look of confusion was apparently obvious to my girlfriend. The husky was standing leaned over the bed, I realized. She supported herself on one paw next to my shoulder, while the other was gently stroking along my cheek now. While it was pleasant and made me let out a small purr, I was distracted and slightly distressed to recognize the room as a stranger's.

And she seemed to take the realize my confusion. The husky looked suddenly significantly uncomfortable, gently biting her lip before starting, "You're in a hospital, love. The doctors said you're doing well considering your condition, but..."
