Chapter 3: Invasion

Johnathon spun around hearing a familiar voice speak out to him. It was none other then General William H. Mainer, commander and chief of the Iszan X Mobile Force and a Chairman of Military affairs in the High Council of Iszan X. John quickly made his way over and placed his hand out to shake the hand of the man.

General William Henry Mainer was a wolf like Johnathon, but in a different way. This particular wolf was white with soft gracings of grey almost like light brush strokes. This wolfs hair was grey in colour and spoke of experience, meaning this one being had been around for awhile, though it also said that he had barely half the energy he had in his younger days. A dark jet black uniform hugged his body, silver trimming outlined every stitching done to it, not only for appeal, but also for ceremonial events. Looking down we see that the same thing was going on with his jet black uniform dress pants, more silver stitching was present. Sitting atop this wolfs head, above his hair was a single officers cap, the insignia that was on the flag, and John's tail sat in the middle of the front of the cap, emboldened in a cast silver ornament. Again we see silver outlining done to the work of the cloth.

Today was a special day, as it was the sending off of the Mobile force and also a special surprise. A large scale invasion force had been in preparation for months now, they were going to exact a planetary invasion of the system of Xan. With the permission of the Interstellar court system and under full judgment of the law this was deemed a perfectly legal act of war, seeing as many of the Supply and Spice ships heading towards Iszan had been boarded by the Military force's on Xan, and brought down to the ports in Dan`cuun, a major shipping port on the planets surface.

John had to make it back before launch as he was being placed in the service of the most prestigious ship built on Iszan... The Valkyrie. She was a ship like none other, larger than any regular Gunship Carrier ever built, the size of Manhattan of the city of New York on old Earth now Maximum Omega; the largest anti-planetary defense guns and an experimental weapon called an "Orbital Shock Cannon" were built directly into the ship, able of retracting and extending from the ships hull. The "Orbital Shock Cannon" was capable of sending massive charges of pure plasma straight through a planets atmosphere without changing, create massive earthquakes and have a destructive force the size of one Hydrogen Bomb. No worry of wasting fuel sources as the ship herself created her own out of the endless supply of the atmosphere that only existed in space. It was a complex process so we will not go into the details.

"Before you are given your order's Grim, I came here personally to share with you that your promotion has gone through... you are now rightfully a Major in the Iszan Mobile Force." The tall white furred wolf said, exposing a secret that was meant to be kept a surprise before take off.

"Thanks Gen... I mean thanks Willy, that really means a lot to me for you to tell me in person." John spoke softly trying not to sound overly dramatic.

"Now, what is this business of you bringing with you a rider?" There it was, the question John had been dreading. He knew not how to answer this question at all. The only thing he could do right as of this minute was tell the General the truth. John spent the next ten minutes going over the events of the past three hours of hyperspace travel.

"So what your telling me is that you believe this rider was attacked, yet you did not see the attacker with your own eyes? Well, I see the complexity of this situation..." William said gently, pacing back and forth within the confines of Johns cabin. His uniform boots clanged against the metal floor of the ships interior.

"Hmmm, I want you to bring her with you onboard the Valkyrie. Question her some more, this information just might go for a good price to the Rider Headquarters on Maximum." William continued on, his tone growing more and more brutish as his comment turned into greed. At first John blink, not knowing what to make of the Generals comment, but then just let it slid. He brought his right leg six inches off the floor in a "L" shape before bringing it back down with a quick snap, both heels touching. He raised his left arm up to his chest, contorting his hand into a fist as it thumped against the chest fur. Nothing more, nothing less, this was the common salute amongst all of the soldiers within the Iszan Mobile Force. With that John walked out of his cabin and off to the exit of the ship, leaving William behind... alone.

"Shit..." The white wolf shouted and he slammed his left foot into the floor, sending the sound echoing about the cabin. He turned and stormed out of the cabin through the sliding metal doors, and made his way towards the exit of the ship as well.

One hour later...

"BATTALION OMEGA... ATTENTION!," A loud mouthed captain shouted out towards the extremely large gathering of formed soldiers, each one dressed in plasma proof armour, stuff that resembled the combats of the soldiers of old earth. Each one of them raised their legs and snapped them down side-to-side with their left foot, the heels touching. Each of them stared forwards, not a single one of them moving, they all stood in complete silence and without any movement. About one hundred yards in front of this large gathering stood a lone podium, a microphone rising out of the base as General William stepped up onto it and leaned forwards into the microphone.

"Good evening troops, today we have a special surprise for a certain captain. And no it is not only that fact that he gets to serve his planet while station on the Valkyrie..." Just as William finished saying "Valkyrie into the mic, the large gathering of soldiers all cheered, knowing that that ship was the pride and joy of the I.M.F. other than the troops themselves.

"Ha-ha... ok, ok calm down their boys and girls. I know we all love that beautiful ship, just remember your in formation. Now what was I saying... oh yeah, Not only is he being stationed on the Valkyrie, he is now being promoted to the gracefully decorated rank of Major. Lets all give a round of applause to the new, Major. Johnathon "Grim" Vedra!" Suddenly the crowd began cheering aloud, theirs voices carried out into the sky miles around. The lone Major came to attention and began marching up the direct middle of formation, getting multitudes of congratulations and pats on the shoulders from his fellow comrades in arms. He halted in front of the podium, saluted and turned to face the troop. General William, and Minister of Military Command Archibald Izalco both stepped away from the podium and up to man. The General was the one that pinned the Major wings onto the wolfs collar, while the Minister shook his hand. A few Military press officers got a few snap shots that would later make it into the planetary news disk.

The ceremonial parade went ahead on schedule, proceeding into dismissal where all of the troops one by one went up and either shook Johns hand or congratulated him on his promotion before heading to the hangar for launch. John himself felt at ease, his heart would have usually been racing at this time as it usually did during launch, but this time he felt relaxed. He went about readying everything before making his way to the underground hangar of the Valkyrie to get settled into his duties. Upon arrival he was immediately assigned to the duty of Squadron commander. Being a Squadron commander meant he was in charge of one of the many gunship squadrons, also meaning he would have to choose a wingman. His pilot callsign was always one of two, either "Grim Vedra" or "Dark Grimm".

The launch went off without a hitch, each ship including the Valkyrie launched into the depths of space, heading towards their target of Xan. John went about his business of inspecting every gunship under his command and their pilots. Each gunship had a different colour scheme and a few personal improvements, like extra stabilizer shields or more heavy cannons. It took around thirty minutes for John to narrow it down to three pilots for the positions of Wingman, Rear Artillery and Forward scout. One pilot was a Human named Hellman Kingsley, callsign "Hells King" he got the spot of Rear artillery due to the fact that his gunship was stacked with extendible shock cannons, the early ancestor of the O.S.C [Orbital Shock Cannon]. Another pilot was a dirty Rat that went by the name Philippe Sanchez, callsign "Dirty Sanchez:" he was placed as Forward Scout, seeing as he had tricked out his engines to do twice the limit of the original engine output. And the last pilot was a Hawk by the name of Brait Black, callsign "Hawkeye", he ship was well balanced in the forms of rapid fire, blaster damage, missile fire rate and capacity, and speed, not to mention the pilot himself had a steady record of abnormal tactics, which interest John deeply.

As day turned to night, though you would not know it while in space, all went as planned. Cleaning of the launch bay and weapons check went off perfectly. The ship was soon to enter hyperspace as were the rest of the ship fleet formed around the Valkyrie. Over a dozen escort class ship encircled the Omega Gunship Carrier, while over two dozen Battle Cruiser class ship formed in a "V" shaped pattern in the lead, protecting the Escorts and the Carrier. Half a dozen Heavy Shock Artillery class ship trailed at a safe distance behind the extremely large formation of ship, their cannons ready to fire at a moments notice, while over 3 dozen Orbital Dropships traveled in between the Escort ships and the Shock Artillery ships, they held the key to the invasion, each one carried over 1000 troops, each ship designated from a specific troop. Just as a scout class ship reentered their radar, they got word of no ships in the vicinity of the re-entry zone. All ships were alerted to the Hyperspace jump, each ship gave their personal and contents time to get safe as the preparations for Hyperspace were made. And with multiple flashes of blue light, each ship disappeared from sight into the zone named Hyperspace.
