Chapter1:Hunted.

"You sure you want to go through with this?" the man asked the woman.

"Yea I'm sure. He'll be safer there then here." There was sadness to the woman's voice but she knew she was making the right choice, even if it meant she had to give up her only child.

The man and the woman are husband and wife. They are the world's best known scientists. The man is tall, about 6 foot 5. He's wearing pants and a tee shirt. The woman is about 6 foot 3. She was in a skirt and a tank top with a light jacket over it. She is holding a baby in her arms, cradling him back and forth as she sang him a lullaby quietly. The man looked down at the little one and gave him a warming smile.

"He'll be the only one of his kind there. He'll always feel some what alone." he told the woman, trying to convince her otherwise.

"I can protect him you know. What happened the other day was a flaw in the security."

"That is true but remember he's not what you would call one of our kind either. He may look like us but his genetic makeup is more like them. So I believe it will be best if we give him a chance to live, instead of trying to figure out every little flaw. When they find out about him, you know they'll try everything to get in, and you and I both know if you want in bad enough, you're going to find a way."

The man sighed and looked at his son one more time before walking to his computer against the wall and typing in a code. After he finished on the computer, he went to a machine that looked like a laser gun and started to type a code on the key pad. The machine started to hum and the room got dim from the power being drawn to use the machine. The man looked up at his wife and nodded to her giving her the signal that it was ready.

"Let's do this." was all the woman said as she turned around to the desk and put some safety glasses on.

The man typed some more on the key pad then walked down to his wife. The machine started to glow and hum louder before a red light was shot out of the tip, and into a giant glass orb. It started bouncing off the wall gaining speed as it went. The light kept on bouncing while it started to change color as well. With each new color, it would get a small shot into another halo looking object and spin faster and faster as the colors blended to make a rainbow looking halo. The man looked at the woman and grabbed her hand. Then with his free hand, he hit a button next to him and the energy from the halo was concentrated to the center of the halo and made a portal. The portal was the same rainbow color as the halo but had a white center.

"It's not to late to change your mind. I know I can protect him." the man said to the woman, trying to get her to change her mind because he didn't want to lose his one and only son.

The woman took his hand and held it tightly. A tear started to form on her face. She took another look at her son before stepping towards the portal.

"I'm sure." she said. The woman started walking towards to portal again.

The portal had a slight gravitational pull to it, but not so much that it sucked you in, just enough to suck in small light objects. The man came up to stand next to the woman then stopped in front of the portal a little ahead of her.

"Well let's not waste anymore time out here. I just hope that Frank will take him in."

With that, he walked into the portal, leaving the woman alone in the basement.

"Me too, Luke. Me too."

The woman took a deep breath, then walked into the portal. It doesn't take but a millisecond to get to the other side but when she got through she felt light-headed and dizzy. The world beyond the portal was different than her world. This world had not been ruined by the works of mankind, the air was clean, the forest which they were in was lush and green. This world reminded her of what earth was once like before the evolution of man. In this world, it wasn't the humans that evolved but the felines, canines, and other animals. The woman sat on the ground to catch her breath and to admire this perfect world. She could actually taste how much cleaner this air was compared to the air at home. She listened to the birds sing their song not too far away. She looked down at her child and gave him a welcoming smile. The child was looking around at the new place and wanted to go explore it, but the woman knew this place was trouble for those who didn't know what to look out for, so she kept him bundled up in her arms. After she had caught her breath, she got up and walked to her husband. He was sitting over the edge of the mountain looking at the magical view of the forest below.

"To think earth used to resemble something like this a long time ago. I wish we could live here with Daniel but we are needed back home." the man said, not wishing to leave where he was.

"Well, he'll be able to live life in a clean environment. That'll be good for him. Plus who said we can't come and visit?"

The woman looked at her husband and gave him a reassuring smile. She helped him up as they started walking into the forest. They were headed to a village of Khatoolanasheem's to see if they could convince them to watch their son. The Khatoolanasheem's were a feline breed. They had the build of a human except they were covered in fur, had a tail, and their faces had cat like look to it. They weren't know for their kindness but they were hoping that they could get them to take Daniel into their tribe. It wasn't too long of a walk before they reached the tribe. The tribe greeted them like they usually do with welcoming purrs and curious looks. They reached the middle of the tribe where they saw Frank waiting for them as if he was expecting them.

"You might as well turn back around and leave. The answer is no." Frank said when they got within hearing distance.

"Do you mind watching him for me while we talk to Frank, please?" she asked the Khatoolanasheem.

She nodded and the woman left Daniel with her, hoping that she'll get attached to him and will help the humans with their quest to let their son live here. The human approached Frank with confidence.

"Why do you not turn away? The answer still remains no. Daniel can not live here with us. He belongs back in your world, not ours." Frank said, not breaking eye contact with the humans.

The man and his wife looked at each other as if to ask 'how did he know?'

"My daughter is a mind reader. As soon as you entered our territory, she knew why you were coming." Frank said, answering their questionable looks.

"Ahh so your daughter found her gift?" the man asked, looking at Jessica with a grin. "and a mind reader, very amazing. You all never stop amazing me."

Jessica ran and hid behind her mom who looks just like her, only bigger and more mature. Her mom bends down and gives her a few reassuring licks. The woman looks at her son and sees that the Khatoolanasheem has taken to him. Daniel was asleep curled up in the folds of the knees.

"Why are you still here?" Frank asked, drawing the humans attention back to him.

The man sighed and said,"Because Daniel is special, he needs to be kept in a safe environment. And the people back home want to kill him."

"Then you two should have thought about that when you decided to have a kitten. Now you have until sun down to leave before we treat you like the intruders you are. Oh, and this time destroy that machine of yours so no one can use it."

The woman started to cry for she knew that her son was as good as dead back at home. But she did not fight it for she knew that Frank was a stubborn feline and there was no point in fighting. She returned to her son and stopped as she saw him sleeping there peacefully.

"He is a good cub. I hate to hear that he's in danger but Frank is right. He doesn't belong here." The feline looked at Daniel one last time before waking him up and handing him over.

The woman took her son and looked at Frank one last time, hoping he would say he could stay, but he didn't even blink. The man walked up to her and held her arm as they started walking back to the portal. When they got there, he typed in a code that sends them back home and destroys the machine after it completes its task. As they returned home, they were not expecting what they saw. The lab had been trashed as if someone was looking for something and didn't find it. The man motioned to his wife to stay there and he went up stairs to take a look. As he disappeared up the stairs, seconds turned to hours as the woman waited for him to return. She heard a cry that made her heart skip a beat.

"No..." was all she managed to say as she fell to her knees.

Her worst nightmare had come true. She spotted a shadow coming down the stairs and knew she had to act fast. So she got up and ran to the bomb shelter or safe house as she liked to call it and locked herself and Daniel in it. The safe house had no windows and one door that when shut can not be opened with anything. There is a bed, a table, and a mini fridge with enough food to last a week. The woman put her son on the bed and went for the gun in the closet, before returning to Daniel.

"It's ok, Sweetie. We're safe now." she said to Daniel, who was crying.

The woman sat there holding Daniel as she heard something try to get into the room. The woman knew the room was safe but something kept on telling her don't let your eyes off the door. The noise stopped and the woman gave a sigh of relief before returning back to Daniel who had fallen asleep. Her husband's cry for help kept on running through her head. She asked herself why am I not crying? The only conclusion that came to mind was the realization hadn't kicked in yet. A few minutes passed by and all seemed safe. She felt a little chill coming from the door and when she looked up, she saw the shadow sliding underneath the door.

"No, that's not possible..." the woman said, as she reached for the gun.

She watched the shadow creep into the room as the room got colder. She stood up and pointed the gun at the shadow not knowing if it would even faze it. The shadow started to take shape and that's when the woman fired the gun. The bullets went right past the shadow.

"No! This can't be happening!" the woman screamed as she kept on firing the gun.

The shadow figure gave a little chuckle before picking up a knife and stabbing her in the heart.

"No...please leave...us..alone....." were her dying words before she let darkness take her.

The shadow figure watched as she died before returning to the boy.

"So this is the one who will stop my master?" the shadow figure gave a chuckle as he approached the boy.

"How is it something so fragile can stop something so powerful?"

The shadow figure took another step towards the crying baby and the necklace the baby was wearing started to glow. The shadow figure stopped in its tracks to see what was going on, before taking another step.

"You don't scare me!" the shadow creature screamed as he ran up to the boy.

The necklace shone brighter and brighter with every step until the creature was just about reaching distance. Then a beam of light shot out of the necklace and hit the creature.

"Nooooooooooo! How can this be?!" the creature yelled as the blast was killing it.

"Forgive me, Master, for I have failed."

I hope you all like this story. I want to thank Yaziko for beta reading it for me. I plan on posting a new chapter a week. So see you all next weekend.
