? Fall of man Dawn of a new age Chapter 6
Joe tells a shrink his life story
"Tell me, Mr. Marsh about yourself?" A black lab said looking at Joe. It's Monday around 12:15
in the afternoon. Dr. Frank, the shrink is one of the five left in the Everett, Lynwood area. Joe found
out that his health insurance at his work is covering around 95% of the bill, and he is getting sick
pay for these sessions. So it isn't going to hurt his savings, now that he's going to be a father soon.
"Well, I was born at Stevens hospitals in Edmonds Wash. Sept 6, 1972. My father was an MP in the
army during the Vietnam war. I really admired him. I hated the way the public called him a
baby killer." Joe said laying on the couch, watching Dr. Frank writing on a note pad.
"I was a medic, during that war. So I know what you mean." Frank looked at Joe. "I was
retired from this field, but I got called back in. I am right now a rare breed, continue."
"My family moved around a lot until I was ten. We settled in Lyman Wyoming, lived
there for two years. Then we were living here since." Joe stared at the ceiling, looking at a
water stain.
"It says your half native American, on your form." Frank said to Joe.
"I am half Blackfoot, from my dads side. My mom's mother is from Liverpool England. I
loved my family except my mom's younger sister. She was a racist. She insulted my mother
and father. She had nothing to do with me, I guessed she was a member of the Klu Klux
Klan." Joe said.
"We are getting off the subject at hand, Mr. Marsh. Tell me your high school years and
your service in the military." Frank continued writing on his notepad.
"My high school years were ok, the only thing that sucked they shut down auto shop a
year before I started. The only repair classes I ever took were my years in the navy. I was an
engine man. I repaired diesel engines and distilling plants. They were the machinery that
converted salt water to fresh water." Joe rambled on.
"So were you in any conflicts?" Frank asked, while he continued taking notes.
"I was on an LST during the first gulf war. You do not want to be in a diesel plant at that
place, when the ventilation is shut down during a CBR drill. Those places get up to a 130
degrees. Every time somebody tells me to go to hell. I tell them been there." Joe laughed.
"So we are getting, some were, you always try to find some humor in some bad
situations?" Frank stared at Joe.
"All the time doc, if you lose it and run around screaming, after the fit you are still in the
same situation. In my case, I was on a 530-ft piece of floating steel in the middle of the
ocean. You had no place to go, unless you're a good swimmer." Joe chuckled and watched
Franks reaction.
"Joe, I had friends in the navy. Some times I think you guys had it easy." Frank replied.
"They must have been in operations or navigation. The engineering dept. was treated like
crap. We worked the average of an eighteen-hour day while underway. So those other
departments can have water and electricity and hot showers. In addition got to keep the ship
moving, those op nav. guys were the first ones off the ship, we were the last ones off." Joe
looked Frank in the eye.
"Sorry you're my first snipe." Frank looked at Joe.
"Ah, you know our nick name. Maybe we are going to get a long Dr." Joe rubbed his
hands together.
"Ok Mr. Marsh let's fast forward to when you left the navy. What did you do then?"
Frank asked while writing.
"I went to college for two years used my G I bill to finance it. Did not find a job here, so I
moved to Sandy Utah, because my cousin got me a job at a heavy truck dealership. I rented a
house there." Joe stared at the ceiling.
"Continue Mr. Marsh" Frank said while writing.
"That lasted six years, I thought that I was settled for good. My cousin owned that house,
so all I had to do was pay the utility bills and the property taxes, and give him some money.
Then he died of a blood vessel bursting in his brain. Then a relative sold the place to
developer so an apartment can be built there, during that I got laid off." Joe said wringing
his hands, with an angry look on his face.
Frank looked at Joe watching his reaction. "What was the reason of the lay off?"
"They said it was cut backs, which was a white lie. They hire a guy three months before
but they kept him. Do you want to why doc, he was married. They laid off five guys that day,
and they were all single. If you want to keep a job in Utah Doc, make sure you are married."
Joe said with a grin.
"So you moved back here." Frank stared at Joe.
"Not yet, I had twelve hundred dollars in my savings account. I wandered around for a
couple weeks like a vacation, lived in my truck showered at truck stops. Then I worked my
way back here. After I got back here, the engine in my truck threw a rod. I wanted to put a
another engine in it, the place my folks are staying at doesn't allow major work on
vehicles. I had to get rid of it, but my folks got me another truck. Then I got the job. I have
right now. Then a little more than two months ago I meet Shelly." Joe said staring at the
ceiling.
"All right, Mr. Marsh it say's you got a settlement from the Lynwood police. What's with
that?" Frank continued his writing.
"Oh that, some low life was using Shelly as human shield while holding a knife to her. I
took one metal pillars, the banks have ropes on then. I clubbed the guy with it, the problem
was I hit him too hard, accidently killing him. He was a policeman's son. They tried to
charge me with murder. I was in a holding cell for a little over an hour. I was not given the
phone call. Shelly called her aunt, then her aunt called her lawyer. The lawyer got me out of
there, but the next day the charges were dropped. The police stuck me in with the violent
criminals, so you know what they tried to do to me. They didn't succeed, but the lawyer saw
what happen. He got me a chunk of money for that. I gave fifty thousand to my folks, Shelly
got me some investment account so that it gets interest." Joe said looking at Frank.
"That's all the time I have, your getting married on the fifthteenth day of this month. I
want to see you on the thirteenth of this month, same time." Frank closed his note pad
shakes' Joe's hand.
Frank watches Joe leave his office, puts away the file. A white older female wolf walks in.
"What's the verdict? Can I trust my niece with him?" she looks at Frank with yellow eyes.
"You can. He's got a mild case of post traumatic stress syndrome. He doesn't need any
medication. Just some sessions with me and that's it." Frank looks back at her.
"Send your bills to me the part his insurance doesn't cover, I got to get those passports
done and a wedding planned. Keep me up to date Frank. I going to go visit my niece. I
haven't seen her for a couple of weeks, got to congratulate her. She tried so hard to have kids
for years." She walks away.
"Joe if you knew what Shelly's aunt does for a living, you think the movie: The
Godfather" Frank looked at the ceiling. "Gotta get that roof fixed."
The white wolf walked to a black Chevy suburban and got in the back seat. A Doberman
was sitting by her. "Eddie, how are those passports doing?"
"They will be done on in a few days Mary, So how's Joe?" he looked at her.
"He's going to be fine, and Shelly was smart to call me for a shrink. Plus I found out Joe
has a very high I Q. I am wonder what the kid is going to be like." Mary looked out the
window.
"It will be awhile, I have some of our best people looking at the data Joe got. We were
lucky we got copies before he got it to the president." Eddie said.
"Joe is laid back, doesn't want to attract attention. I think that's what Shelly likes about
him. Shelly told me he propose to her, when he found out she was pregnant. That get's my
respect." said Mary.
"From what I found out, his dad was a Vietnam war vet. His dad must have taught him to
take responsibility for your actions." Eddie grinned.
"Well, let's pay my niece a visit. I am going to help her plan her wedding. Then the
honeymoon." Mary said.
