#14 of Next Generation- The Digivolution Saga

I would like to put forward a little competition type thing to all my readers. If you read my latest journal, you will see that I am going to have quite a tight schedule for the next couple of weeks, but would still like to post the next chapter. Now, while I have the basic layout for where this segment of the story is going to go, I am having a bitch of a time coming up with new characters and digimon-species. SO basically, pm any ideas to me, including basic species (Feline, canine, etc,) as well as descriptions and Names, preferably of first to third forms, and element types,(max is three to a species). I will be adding a Species page which I will update as I use other's ideas, with referencing, and will also have a more complete prologue story of what happened just before the Great Reset. Thank you. (Also, please note that this is not me just being lazy...okay, well maybe a little bit :P)

Something a tad darker, I'm trying to bring a few more of Craig's inner-workings into the story, as he begins to show a few cracks, and crack a few things.

Craig swore as he slammed into the back wall of the cell, leaping to his feet and hurling himself against the bars just as the door slammed shut, screaming at the jailors as they walked away. Something had happened; someone had attacked them, knocking them back into the Beam. The memory made the wound on Craig's shoulder ache slightly, making him curse again. Now he was trapped in this cage, and Namico, Nee and Karen were gone, taken from him by whoever was in charge of this gods-forsaken place. And Mary, he had left her behind, still tied up playfully, though he was sure she'd have freed herself by now.

"What happened?" He growled, his ears twitching at the sound of movement behind him, "What the fuck happened?!"

Several hours earlier

"Hey Craig!" Namico chimed; hugging her mate as he stepped into the paved courtyard of the Beam, at the very centre of the cross shaped Citadel Station.

"Hey beautiful, any idea why I was interrupted?" Craig asked, hugging her back as both she and Karen shrugged, a sly grin on their faces as they spotted the clerk that had escorted him, still blushing feverishly.

"Interrupted from what?" the asked simultaneously, Craig's answer being cut off by a high pitched whine as the strange contraption built around the Beam began to hum.

Craig looked at the thing, which resembled something from a Jetsons cartoon, consisting of three silver rings supported by three white legs, what looked like a computer terminal at the base of each of these "legs". Craig had had his digivice scan the machine before, but had been caught and effectively scolded for doing so. Now, however, he activated the digivice again, setting it to scan the machine as it performed whatever duty it was to perform.

A familiar flash of purple light flood the courtyard suddenly, catching Craig off-guard, as well as the other girls off-guard, Nee attaching herself to his leg in fright, making him swear and stumble as he tried to rub his eyes.

"Heh, yeah, I know exactly what you mean," a voice laughed, "That flash also gets me every time. Anyway, it is a pleasure to meet you, my good man, may I introduce myself? I am the Messenger of Light, though you may call me Blake."

"Uh, yeah, whatever," Craig replied, staring strangely at the bowing angel, "So you're a digi-destined to, then?"

"Oh yes!" Blake chimed, standing bolt upright as he grinned almost manically at Craig, "And you have NO idea just how happy I am to see you! I must ask, what is your title?"

"Title? You mean the Reaper thing?" Craig asked, blinking in surprise, "I noticed you have one as well."

"Oh yes, we all do!" Blake laughed, "Reaper of Winds, Messenger of Light, Warrior of Fire, though I think that one is a little clichéd."

"Tell me about it," Craig chuckled nervously, "Anyway, is this all you wanted? Just to meet me, because there is another digi-destined here, Mary."

"Oh! Where is she? What's her element?" Blake exclaimed joyfully, his sudden bouncing making Craig take a cautionary step back.

"Uh, I left her tied up and naked in our room," Craig had to stifle a laugh as Blake's face suddenly went bright red, continuing only when it looked like the boy may pass out, "Anyway, she's a plant type digimon, a Dendromon, I believe."

"Oh, so she's the Provider of Nature," Blake blinked as the Craig stared at him in confusion, "Well, it wasn't easy to translate it from the digi-script, it seemed to be something more along the lines of 'Mother Nature' if you ask me, but that didn't fit into the whole something-of-element-thing we had going..."

Craig spun around and grabbed Namico and Karen firmly by the shoulders, leaving Blake to continue chattering to no one. Pulling the slightly surprised pair a little ways away, he whispered to them secretively.

"How many elements are there in total?"

"Eight," Karen answered, "Light, shadow, nature, lightning, fire, water, earth and air. Why?"

"That means there are at least eight digi-destined, and if my hunch is right, we were all chosen specifically," Craig whispered, blinking when the Namico and Karen stared at him in confusion, "Look, Mary's dad is the leader in Digimon research in our world, and this guy can read digi-script, something you can only do by taking a highly specialised University course! So by my reckoning, we may all have skills or connections that make us important to the digital world. Any questions?"

"What's your skill?" Namico asked, a worried look washing over her face when Craig glanced away, "Craig?"

"I don't know," He sighed, "Karen?"

"What's a University?" The fox asked, making Craig stare at her in surprise, then chuckle slightly.

"I'll tell you later, sweethea-" the force of the explosion knocked the wind from Craig's mouth as they four digimon were flung backwards, the ground just ahead of where they'd been standing erupting in a cloud of dirt.

Craig reacted instantly, wrapping his arms around Karen and Namico, only able to pray that Nee could hold onto his leg. The soft glow of the Beam's purple light suddenly washed over them as a figure emerged from the cloud of debris, leaping through the air after them. Claws dug into Craig's shoulder as they vanished into the stream of data.

=++=++=++=++=++=++=++=++=++=++=

Craig stared down at the surprised face of the dog. It looked something like a German Sheppard, except its fur was blue and purple instead of the usual black and brown. The body flopped as he threw it aside, the data slowly leaking from the corpses mouth as Craig watched it drift through the air, almost laughing at the near comical angle the other digimon's neck was bent at.

"Shouldn't have interrupted me," Craig sighed as he grinned manically, shaking his head almost mockingly at the vanishing corpse as he leant against the bars of his cell, "It's a pity you died so fast, I may have enjoyed the company."

No sooner had he finished talking than a clawed hand appeared next to his head, the palm slamming into his face as Craig automatically grabbed his attacker's wrist. Another sickening crunch, followed by a wet ripping noise saw the hand fly into the cell on the other side of Craig's cage, and his assailant disappear back into the shadows, the only evidence he was still there an occasional soft whimpering and a few pieces of data as his blood disintegrated.

Standing, Craig looked around the prison, counting four cells in the same row as his the door at the far end of the room obviously the only way in and out. Sighing, he held his hand outstretched and prepared to cut through the bars.

"Useless. These bars are designed to counteract our element powers," a dry female voice croaked at him, "I got thrown in this place almost as soon as I got here. Barely got to absorb one digimon, thanks for the hand, by the way."

"Since you got here?" Craig asked the voice, looking around frantically for the owner, noticing a small shape moving in the far cell to his right, "So, you're a digi-destined?"

"Forger of Lightning is what they call me when I get let into the arena. Only female fighter they have, all because the bastard that runs the show doesn't want to "pollute his harem", or something like that," the voice sighed, "Anyway, how d'you know 'bout the destined?"

"The Reaper of Winds, at your service, now it's time to get out of here. Wind Blade," the iron bars of the cell sparked, the near invisible blade passing straight over them, making Criag growl in frustration.

"Told you," the voice croaked again, "It's useless to use atta..."

"Digi-vice, Data Blade," Craig growled, the watch squawking as what looked like a sword hilt formed in Craig's hand. Flicking up a switch, Craig pressed the button on the hilt, a central support suddenly shooting out of the tube, the glowing white blade of data forming around it, the edges rippling and spinning like a silent chainsaw. Grinning in the harsh glow of the blade, Craig grinned at the cloaked figure leaning against the far wall as he slashed through the bars, the structures dissolving away quickly, "Let's get out of here shall we?"

=++=++=++=++=++=++=++=++=++=++=

Namico groaned as she sat up, gasping when Karen wrapped her arms around the surprised feline's neck, sobbing uncontrollably as Nee huddled in the corner of the room, unpicking a design from one of the many cushions scattered around the room.

"What happened?"

"You have been added to the Master's collection," Namico jumped as the overly peppy Pagoramon spoke, the bright green bird smiling sweetly at the white and blue feline.

" "The Master's collection" ?" Namico repeated, "What are you talking about?"

"The Master, who cares for us, as we care for him," the bird said happily, still smiling at Namico, "We are his."

"What?! No! No no no! I do not belong to anyone! Let alone this master freak! Anyway, I already have a mate, and I refuse to-" Namico gasp as the Pagoramon's fist slammed into her gut, knocking th wind out of her and cutting her off.

"The Master cares for us," she hissed, "And you will not speak ill of him!"

"Speak ill of this, bitch!" Namico hissed back, lashing out with her paw, claws extended as she buried two fingers into the side of the shocked bird's neck, the Pagoramon giving a strangle squeak before toppling sideways and disintegrating, "My mate taught me that one."

"Reanne!" the second voice from behind caught Namico off guard as the other digimon's attack slammed into her back, a flash of heat just behind her, followed by the smell of burning hair, making her leap to the floor and begin rolling frantically.

"Namico, what are you doing?" The feline stopped rolling and stared at Karen, smoke rising from the Flame Mitsunemon's palm.

"Nothing!" she said hurriedly, jumping to her feet in embarrassment, gasping when Nee almost tackled her to the floor, clinging to Namico's waist as she sniffed loudly, "What's up, baby?"

"I wanna go find Papa," the kitten whispered, the two older females looking at each other seriously, before Namico kneeled in front of Nee and hugged her.

"Your Papa is going to be fine, sweetheart," she cooed, "He would take out everyone in this place all by himself just to look for us, but we can't let him do that, so we're also going to go looking for him..."

"Hey!" Namico was cut off as the guards burst into the room, pointing their spears at the group of girls, "Halt in the name of th-."

"Force of the Storm," Nee scowled at the two males as she held out her palm, the attack slamming both against the wall, the pair shrieking as bolts of lightning slammed into their chests, both collapsing to the ground before dissipating into clouds of data. Karen and Namico stared at the tiny kitten as she quickly absorbed the data, before reattaching herself to Namico's waist, sniffling quietly into the white feline's stomach, "Mama, I want Papa back."

Karen stared at Nee, before leaning over and hissing into Namico's ear, "Your kid is really scary,"

"Well, she is Craig's daughter," Namico replied automatically.

"My Lord! My Lord!" the grey lizard stumbled as he burst through the doors, staring at the back of the gothic high backed chair in terror, "Prisoner's have escaped!"

'OH?' the voice was like the ringing of a crystal glass and the booming of a brass gong brought together, both soothing and terrifying as the servant shivered behind the chair, 'THEN DRIVE THEN TOWARDS THE ARENA.'

"Some of them are the new concubines, my Lord," the distraught reptile continued, "Do you not wish us to save th-?"

'TO THE ARENA'

"But my Lord..."

'THE ARENA, OR YOU SHALL JOIN THEM!' the voice boomed, making the reptile clutch at his ears in pain, 'AND WHAT OF THE OTHER ESCAPEES?'

"T-they are the two destined, my Lord," the lizard managed to stutter, his head still ringing, "They are being driven towards the arena as we speak."

'EXCELLENT, I AM IN NEED OF A GOOD SHOW TODAY,' the voice chuckled, 'ARE NOT YOU, AEROVEX?'

"Yes, my Lord," the mysterious servant that was always at his master's side said quietly, surprising the other digimon, who had not seen him sitting in the shadows, "A good show indeed."

=++=++=++=++=++=++=++=++=++=++=

"Fuck!" the wall exploded as the pair of guards attacked, making Craig swear profusely as he barely managed to duck in time, before jumping forwards and decapitating both guards easily. Gasping for breath, he glanced over at his companion, who seemed even more out of breath than he was. Sighing, he grabbed the girl and shoved her into the cloud of data, startling her as she tried to protest, "Shut up and absorb. I can teach you some stuff about the digi-vice's combat system later, but right now, we have to get some strength into you."

"I know plenty 'bout the 'vice, thanks," the girl growled back, "Not like I had much else to do in that gods-forsaken cell."

"I suppose, but while we may know plenty about our vices, we don't know much about each other," Craig ventured as he watched the strange girl absorb the last of the two guards data, already seeming to stand more upright, "So let's start with names, and move onto the particulars when there aren't as many people out to kill us, I'm Craig."

"Lunette, but call me Luna, and never Lune or Loony, go that?" the girl growled at Craig, "Anyway, I bet there isn't a single thing you could do with the vices right now that I don't know about."

"Digi-vice, Sync," Craig ordered, the device on his wrist squawking obediently as it connected to the girl's, which chimed quietly, the girl pulling back the baggy sleeve of her cloak as she stared at the writing scrolling down the holo-screen.

"Okay, didn't know you could do that," she whistled, "Any other tricks you could show me? Like that sword-thing you used earlier?"

"Sorry," Craig replied, shaking his head, "Seems like the only way to get one is to scan it in action. That way your digi-vice can replicate it later, but I'll show you later. Anyway, I didn't know you could change the noise this thing makes, how do you do that?"

"I'll show you later," the girl replied, a slight grin just visible under her large hood.

"Oh, real matu-!" Craig's sarcastic retort was cut off as three more guards suddenly appeared around one of the corners, shouting out their attacks almost instantly.

Swearing again, Craig grabbed the girl's hand and leapt forwards, their forms flickering slightly, before the second wave of attacks shredded the after-images apart.
