Goodbye
Goodbye
The darkness settles in
A blanket so very cold.
This day is one that comes,
We have all once been told.
The lesson has been learnt
As we have all grown old,
And days fly by so quickly
As time continues to fold.
Do not blame me thusly
I am not the one to scold,
I warn you now poor soul
For this journey please be bold.
We should leave this place quickly
Before flesh begins to mould.
Your loved ones all will mourn,
Son, daughter and wife.
But soon they will celebrate
The essence that was your life.
Perhaps you should have considered
Their pains and their strife,
Before you decided how much
You relied upon the knife.
You walked within your mind,
Thinking if you could
Run the blade along your arm
And free the ruby blood.
Now for a whole eternity
Rest in the box of wood.
Take my hand and follow me
Towards the light up in the sky.
Each step upon the staircase,
A path on which we die.
Your heart's drowning sorrow
Is not the reason you cry.
I can see within your soul
There is no way to lie.
Now hush your silly noise
And let me dry your eye.
Come now don't you cower
There's no need to be shy.
Look back down upon the Earth,
Now to say goodbye.
