I Got A Bite

Another rainy day on the island begins as I grab my breakfast while checking the weather report and reading the news before finally grabbing three of my best rods and heading out for the coast. Upon arrival I see ships in the distance with their nets ablaze attracting birds from all around as I start my small boat and head towards the feeding frenzy while being greeted by my fellow anglers.

The sun began to shine through and the clouds blew towards the horizon with the feeding still going on as the water boils with the excitement of the predatory fish as I stop my boat only a few yards away from the school with the waves gently rocking her back and forth.

Grabbing my light tackle first I cast out a bait and line and begin gathering live bait while putting one whole squid on a second hook and sending it towards the feeding frenzy. a few hours go by and my bait container is full but nothing has happened to the squid but as I reel in the line I find the hook completely bare, the fish had taken it without being caught.

As I prepare my heavy tackle again I throw out two live sardines and set the drag while keeping an eye on the horizon for any signs of a storm and within a moment the first rod suddenly jerked forward and the reel began screaming as I jump out of my seat and grab the rod and brace myself as I tighten the drag of the reel and begin the fight.

I grew excited and began to shout with joy as I saw him leap out of the water several times but no matter how hard he tried I would not let up and slowly began reeling him in when all of the sudden the second rod springs to life and with no other crew member in sight I had to work fast and with a quick jerk of the line and a heave with my body I pulled a forty pound mahi on to the boat and left him to flap as I put down one rod and headed for the other.

This fish felt a little heavier as I struggled to keep him from diving any further but it was like trying to lift a boulder from the bottom of the ocean as he kept diving down after several pumps of the reel, then at last he gave up as I pulled him from the murky depths and saw a two-hundred pound tuna on my line and using the gaft I hauled him in and made my way back to the docks for some well deserved praise and rest as I gazed upon the two fish in my cooler.

Looking back at the ocean I felt a sense of pride knowing how lucky I was to be in such a majestic part of the world before heading back home.

The End
