Chapter One**

"What's up, Boss?"

She scowled at him from the cabin's threshold, making no move to either pass off her bags or return his greeting. He smiled up at her as the train's settling hydraulics sent a spurt of white steam billowing between them.

"You're gonna have to talk to me sometime, Ryan."

The bright red bow in the little lioness's hair was crumpled in from where she had been resting against the dust-covered window, looking more like a crimson butterfly idling on her scalp than a bow. Her dress was creased, her shoes scuffed and her stockings run. Mother had apparently gone through a lot of trouble getting the little tomboy ready --all in vain, Sebi would be happy to report when he called.

But why rush? This was priceless.

"I love youuuuu."

Her eyes narrowed to angry little slits.

"And I meeeeeeean it."

The large carpetbag suitcase that the young lioness clutched went flying, hitting Sebi dead in the chest, knocking the wind out of him. "Ooof!" He took a step back, legs nearly buckling under its immense weight. People disembarking their cabins and standing on the platform were staring.

Drawing herself to full (if meager) height and squaring her jaw, Ryan cleared the metal fold-out stairs and landed on the platform, elbowing past her older brother despite having ample room to go around.

"Hey!"

She came to a military halt some distance away.

"I already told you, girl. We ain't going nowhere until you say it."

Ryan's hands balled into fists, her small shoulders hunched up. Sebi bridged the gap between them in an instant, smirking as he planted a wet kiss on the top of her head.

"Say it."

The lion cub scowled and stared off.

"I can stay here all day. Really, I can."

He set down the suitcase and sat on it, leaning down to whisper in her ear. "Everybody's looking at you, y'know. In that pretty dress. You're the prettiest little girl in the whole train station right now I'll bet. By far."

Ryan's neck creaked as it twisted around, the corner of her big brown eye fidgeting with rage.

"I'm... glad... to be here," she managed with much effort.

Sebi cupped a hand to his ear. "Whuzzat?"

"I'm GLAD to BE here."

"And you're excited to be spending two whole weeks with your big brother?" He wrapped an arm around her narrow shoulders. "Because Sebastian is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and every moment that he's been away has felt like an eternity, 'cause he's your idol and you wish you could be more like him?"

"...go to HELL..."

He tweeked her ear one way and then back the other. "You've missed your big brother while he's been off at college?"

"I've missed my big brother while he's been off at college," she repeated mechanically.

"Do you mean it?"

"Yes."

Sebi cupped a finger beneath his baby sister's chin, tilting her eyes up to meet his gaze.

"Really?"

A long moment passed. Then, for the first time since he left, Sebi watched as the hard, tough exterior his sister presented to the world begrudgingly began to soften. It started in her big brown eyes, radiating out to the girl's round cheeks, which reddened brightly through her fur. The corners of Ryan's mouth trembled, struggling to fight down the faintest of smiles.

"Yes," she whispered flatly, rolling her eyes.

"Yes what?"

"Yes I missed you."

Sebi smiled from ear to ear. "Good. Well, let's go then. Damned train station smells awful. And I'm sure you're wanting to get out of those stockings."

He rose and slipped under the suitcase's strap, heaving it up with a grunt. Sebi stopped to watch as Ryan awkwardly dug a wedgie out of her ass through her dress, and grinned as she brazenly hiked up one corner and snapped at a garter. Suddenly, an evil thought occurred to him.

Oh what the hell, Sebi thought to himself, lips again curling in a malignant smile. He drew in a deep breath.

"WHY, YOU'RE BOUND TO BE THE PRETTIEST, MOST ELEGANT LITTLE PRINCESS THAT I HAVE EVER S--"

Sebi's announcement to the platform was cut short as his sister reared back and punched him square in the balls.

As Sebi buckled and fell over like a poorly-stacked pile of laundry, Ryan stepped over her brother's twitching legs, retrieving the carpetbag's strap from around his throat. She left him there, ignoring both her brother's pained wheezings and the looks of passers-by as she stomped smartly off towards the revolving doors, up the long passage towards the archway, and out into the fading sunlight.
