Prologue

Hello, dear reader, and welcome to my journals. My name is Kiden Stormsoarer, and I am a dragon. A silver dragon to be precise. The following is an account of my lifetime, as well as I can recall. Some of the details may be blurred, but I assure you, the content is true.

To begin, I must tell you some of the history of my world. You see, in my world, humans and dragons live side by side, helping one another and learning from each other as well. Things weren't perfect, but they were good. That is, until some of our peoples decided they wanted more for themselves. Then, a warlord named Horigald rose up with an army of followers, both human and dragon, and declared war on all of the country. They attacked our armies, and though we fought fiercely, we were sorely outnumbered. We lost ground, slowly but surely, until one day things came to a head. One final battle, at a mountain pass to the capitol. This is where my story begins.....

Chapter 1

The Battle.

The pass was quite wide, about three hundred feet across, and over two miles long, and it was the only way to get to the capitol city. Our forces were arrayed across the pass, waiting for the enemy to appear, armor gleaming in the sunlight. The few remaining dragons were perched upon the cliff, like myself, hundreds of feet above the soon to be battle field. Suddenly, a bugle call...the enemy had been sighted. They marched into the pass, thousands strong, their armor the black of night. In the center of the ranks, three magi were summoning storms. We only had one, and though he was strong, he could not match the three. He managed to hold off the rain, but the sky was covered in clouds, darkening the battlefield, lightning and thunder a constant companion.

With a scream, the two armies began to charge. They met in the center of the pass, clashing together with a sound to match that of the ever present thunder. The dragons entered the fray, evenly matched by the enemy forces in the air. I had yet to enter the battle, but I had a special assignment. I was to destroy the lead magus. He would not be with the others, but would be directing the magical assault from afar. That's when I spotted him, directing the lightning, lashing it into our troups, right in the center of the chaos.

I dove down off the cliff, wings folded tight to my magically shortened body. At the last possible second, I flung my wings wide, catching the wind and turning my fall into a glide, shooting straight for the war wizard, the downward thrust of my wings knocking ranks of soldiers to the ground. But he had spotted me, and even though I didn't realize it, I was hurtling towards my doom. He tried to lash me with the lightning, as he had done to our troops, but I, too, could control the elements, and redirected it into his own forces, slaughtering them.

That's when he changed tactics. He began throwing fireballs at me, and I easily avoided them. But they were merely a distraction. I didn't see his true intentions until it was too late. I was virtually on top of him when he released a glowing ball of purple energy, with no chance to avoid it. It hit me right in the chest, stopping me in midair. The pain was intense, unbearable. Suddenly, I was no longer suspended, but racing forward again, but I was not in control. I hit the ground, hard, rolling to a stop at the sorcerer's feet, and I looked up at his face. He was laughing, and that is when I passed out. When I woke up, I was no longer there, or anyplace I recognized. For that matter, I wasn't even a dragon anymore.

Chapter 2

The New Beginning.

I awoke to find myself in a new world, in a new body, with no memory of my past. I was a human child, in a foreign land. A land of something called science, with no magic to speak of. I went through this world, excelling in their schooling, living among them, as one of them, having no idea that I was so immensely different. I had few friends, because even though I was one of them, I still did not understand humans and the way their minds worked. As I got older, a few of my memories began coming back to me. I collected dragon paraphernalia, and became obsessed with anything draconic. My memories confused me, I thought they were mere imaginings.

And that is when I met another dragon.

I had been on this strange world for nineteen years, living out my life, when one day I found an online roleplaying game. Through this game, I met a few friends. One of those friends was like me, a dragon, and she helped me to discover what I was. Through her, I met other dragons, and discovered yet more about myself and my past life. There were points where what I saw made absolutely no sense whatsoever, and others when I became convinced that I was imagining the whole thing, but through it all, my first draconic friend, and later her mate, and other friends, helped me.

I came to accept myself for what I was. A dragon trapped in a human body, far from home, without anyway to return. I found a mission. I would use my empathic gifts, and healing abilities that remained, to help the humans, even though they scorned me. I learned everything I could about the human body, and practiced what they called natural healing. I even found myself a mate. Overall, I was happy enough.

And yet I still wanted my old form back. A close friend of mine was working on a spell to return dragons to their rightful form and worlds with his powers. He succeeded, beyond even his expectations. He found a way to return all dragons to their correct bodies, and a way to travel between our different homeworlds. Finally, we could go home. And so I did, and my mate came with me.

Chapter 3

The Journey

When I returned home, the war was long over. We had managed to push them back, and, decades later, were recovering our society. My mate and I helped to rebuild, lending our strength and magic to the efforts. But we were alone. The war had decimated my kind, and there were no more dragons. I later learned that after I had fallen, the war-wizard had easily destroyed the other dragons, before he was slain by a lucky arrow. We lost many good soldiers and dragons that day, because of my failure.

My mate and I were restless, and lonely. And I couldn't live there anymore, knowing that it was my fault that my kin had perished. So we returned to the portal to seek out our friends, and a new life. First, we visited the world of the creator of the portal, but he, too, was restless, and wanted a new life. His mate had been slain in a war, and though he had found a new mate, the world held many painful memories for him.

So the four of us, myself, my mate, our friend, and his mate, used the portals to travel, hopping from one world to another, visiting old friends, doing what we could to restore the balance of the multiverse. We accomplished many good things, and made many more friends, though we also made our share of enemies. But we stuck together, and no matter how tough the odds, we always managed to pull through. We traveled the systems for many centuries doing this. Until one day we came to a peaceful world, full of dragons, living and working together. They did not make war upon one another, for all had what they needed. There were many different kinds of dragons, from small fairy dragons, to huge leviathans.

This is where we settled, beginning a new community. slowly, other dragons joined us, until we had a thriving lair, all of us working for the betterment of the whole of our lives. That is where we lived out our lives in peace.

Epilogue

I hope you enjoyed what you have read here, dear reader, for it is true, every word of it. I sit in my cave, an ancient dragon, and pen this in my old human form, in the hopes that someday all will see the truth. That there is no reason for war, and that all can live happily together, no matter of background or species. My name is Kiden Stormsoarer, and this is my story.
