Nice to have a newfur to the community!

And you don't have to be shy!

But first of all, you should create an account first ;-)

Thanks Seroth and Garrun!

Yep, I've created my own account now. ^^

Uhm, maybe it's just a stupid question, but how do I get to know the fandom better? Because I'm not really sure about this...

Yep, that's how I started becoming a furry. I signed up on a forum from where furmeets were organized. And everything went all right, but the furmeet turned out a bit different than I expected. Ah well, after that furmeet I'm still a furry. There's no way back anyway.

So this is my story, the story how I met other furries and became a furry myself as well.

"Joshua?! Weren't you going to bowling with some friends?"

"Yeah mum! I'm just writing down the address!" I yelled back from behind my laptop.

"You're going to be late!!"

"No mum! I got this planned!!"

Actually, I had turned off my laptop early, ready to leave. But the only thing I forgot was to write down the address on a note, so I had to turn on the laptop again. Of course, this took ages.

I had checked Google Maps how long the journey to the bowling center was, and it showed one and a half hour. Although quite a distance, it was not too far away. I was just lucky enough to be allowed to borrow mum's car.

"JOSHUA!!!" Mum yelled from downstairs.

"YES MUM!! I'm already going!" I yelled back while I ran down the stairs.

"You have everything with you?"

"Yes mum, I'm fine."

"Where's your bag?"

"I don't need a bag mum; all I need is my wallet and phone."

"Ok... how about water?"

"There's a bottle of water in the car mum."

"Good, how late will you be home?"

"I don't know, it could turn out very late."

"Ok then... Now, be careful with the car, ok?"

"Yes I will mum, cya!" I quickly pecked my mum a kiss after I grabbed my wallet and phone from a drawer.

"The keys!"

"Oh yeah, thanks mum." I snatched the car keys from my mum's hand.

"And don't forget to fill the fuel tank!"

I entered the address into the TomTom GPS.

CAUTION! UNPAVED ROADS

Do you wish to avoid unpaved roads?

Meh, I wasn't afraid of unpaved roads. "I'm sure mum won't mind..." I pressed NO.

"So... Let's get this thing going..." The grey Toyota Yaris sprang to life and exited the garage. "There we go."

I was a bit nervous, because I haven't driven a lot on my own. I only have my driver's license for a few months and whenever I went driving, mum or dad went with me. But dad was working evening shift tonight and mum had to take care of my younger brother. They didn't want to spoil my nice evening of bowling with some 'friends', so they let me take the car. Of course, I didn't tell them those 'friends' were furries.

I already left late from home. I had to fill up the fuel tank. And I of course thought that the fuel lid was at the right side instead of the left side, so above that I also had to turn the car and embarrass myself in front of other drivers. And on the highway I missed an exit. All this resulted me in being late half an hour. But at least, I was there.

I parked the Toyota in the half-empty car park. The large car park was also used by a local supermarket, but at this hour it was closed, so I didn't have to make effort to park in a tight spot. I turned off the TomTom and switched off the car. As the engine fell quiet, a sudden tiredness swept over me. I yawned. It was just that I woke up early that day. I gulped down some water from a bottle of water and left the car.

The car park was dark. The only lights were coming from the bowling center and a few orange street lights. It seemed like they didn't spend money on putting some lights here. Besides it was dark, it also started to rain.

I quickly locked the car and scurried towards the entrance. Just in time, because it started pouring outside. Unlike the parking lot, the bowling center was alive with children running around and groups of friends playing bowling. Soft music was playing in the background while I walked towards the line of bowling alleys. I scanned the groups of people having fun until I found the furries I was looking for. It wasn't difficult to find them as a grey wolf and another black wolf were playing around while others were wearing tails.

I approached the group, took off my jacket and put it on a chair. They didn't seem to notice me, they were too busy talking, playing bowling or having fun with the two in fursuits. Above that, little kids ran around the fursuiters and tried to grab the bushy tail. A little girl finally managed to, but a guy with only a tail told her to be careful. The scowl on the girl's face quickly lightened up again when the fursuiter gave her a warm hug. All the children ended up hugging the two wolves, while the mother smiled and took a picture. It seemed like that a birthday party turned out better than expected.

Still nervous, I came a bit closer to the furries and tried to make eye contact. A guy with grey tail noticed me.

"Hi! You must be the new furry around here! What's your name?" He enthusiastically shook my hand.

"I'm Joshua."

"Joshua?"

"Err... Silvertail on the internet."

"Ah yes, Silvertail! I'm Simon, but you can call me Seroth." Again he wildly shook both hands. "Hey guys! Silvertail is here!"

The other furries turned around and stared at me for a short moment. I started to become nervous, but before I even blushed, everyone yelled hi, howled or started approaching me to shake hands. The two fursuiters even gave me warm hug. They signaled 'time-out' to the fursuit spotter who nodded. The two then went to the restrooms. But I barely saw them leaving when everyone started to introduce themselves. It was hard to remember all the names, not mentioning fursona's.

"Hi Silvertail, I guess we already met on tfmeet.com. My name is Solid Fox there, but my real name is Daren." He solemnly said. Although Solid Fox was smaller than me, he was broader. He was wearing a fox tail.

"Hiya Silvertail, I'm Torrio, but you can call me Dael Macro." But I barely had the chance to introduce myself when he gave me a hug. I noticed that Dael was wearing a brown tail. He also was quite thin although his height was the same as mine.

"Hello Silvertail! I'm David and my fursona name is Ani." The guy was wearing a white tail with blue stripes.

After the introductions, I was still feeling a bit uncomfortable. I am a kind of shy person and I didn't know what to talk about. Suddenly I felt someone patting my shoulder.

"It's your turn Silvertail."

The scoreboard above the alley showed 'Silver Tail' with 0 score. Then I looked at who patted my shoulder. I hadn't met him before.

"Hi, I'm Erik, but I prefer everyone calling me Garrun. I was in the black wolf fursuit a moment ago."

"Oh, that's one of the nicest fursuits I ever saw."

Garrun chuckled. "Maybe because the two fursuits are the only fursuits you've seen before?"

"Err.. yeah."

"Anyway, you should tell Seroth. He made those fursuits."

"Self made?! Wow, impressive..."

"Besides, he has a present for you and Alex in a minute."

"Presents? ..." I mumbled.

"Ah here you are! Meet Silvertail, Silvertail is a bit late, but a new fur nevertheless!" He turned around and told another guy, showing a black tail.

Joshua noticed the guy with brown hair and green square glasses. Although he was bigger than me, he seemed a bit shy.

"Hi, I'm Alex." He introduced himself.

"Hi, I'm Joshua. But everyone seems to be calling me Silvertail." I smiled.

"Oh yes!" Alex relaxed. "You were the other new one."

"Yup, but I'm a bit late. I had to do all kinds of stuff with the car and such."

"You came by car?"

"Yeah..."

"Lucky you! My dad brought me here because he needs the car. He's also picking me up early though..."

"Hmm..." I wondered. "You came through the highway?"

"Yes. You mean..."

I nodded.

"Wow, that would be great!"

"No problem."

"Hey Silvertail, more bowling, less chatting!" Ani happily called out.

"Woops!" I said and I quickly went to grab a bowling ball.

"I'm going to text my dad." Alex said as he sat down at the table.

I gently moved forward and swung the ball onto the alley. Unlike I wanted it to go, it crashed onto the shiny floor with a loud bang and went for the ball gutter.

"Unlucky." Seroth with the grey tail noted.

Ignoring him, I grabbed the second bowling ball. This time, I moved gentler while staring at the pins. Unbelievably the bowling ball went exactly where I was looking at. It hit exactly the right spot! But the grimace on my face failed when only one pin was left standing straight. It wobbled a bit, but the stubborn pin stayed standing proudly on his spot.

Seroth and Alex who both watched chuckled. "Unlucky." This time it was Alex who said it.

"Ah well. Next time better. Garrun? You're next." The black-haired guy with black tail picked up a heavy ball.

"Silvertail and Alex, I have a present for you both." Seroth said. He took two tails from a bag he was holding.

"Wow thanks, but why?" I asked while Alex received a brown tail.

"Just consider it a welcome gift." Seroth replied and he winked as he gave me a dark grayish 'silver' tail.

"This is just amazing!" Alex exclaimed. "The first furmeet I'm going to and I already have my own tail and even tried a fursuit!"

"What? You were in the grey fursuit?"

"Yep, he tried my lovely fursuit." Seroth proudly added.

"Those fursuits look really nice." I complimented Seroth.

"Don't be astounded by the fursuits, there are better things coming this evening." He mysteriously replied.

I was having a great time with my new friends. We could all get along with each other and slowly I got to know more about these furries.

First of all you had Seroth who organized the furmeet but was above all always enthusiastic. His fursona was a grey wolf with white tints. That is why he wore a grey tail. But he even made fursuits. One fursuit resembled his fursona.

The second fursuit was Garrun's. Garrun was fascinated by black werewolves. He was a bit shy and he acted a bit more mysterious than the other furries. But all in all, he was a nice guy with who I got along very good with. Besides, he seemed very happy in his fursuit.

Solid Fox was wearing a bushy rusty-red tail which surprisingly had about the same color as his hair. I wasn't sure until I asked, but he was wearing blue wolf lenses. I've heard before about these colored lenses, but I hadn't seen any until that evening. He said that he actually has brown eyes, but he found the sea blue eyes more fitting with his fursona.

Ani, with his blue-white tail, was the most shy. He didn't talk much, but whenever a conversation was going on, I could see he listened instantly and sometimes tentatively tried to join the conversation. Although the best we tried to let him join in, his stammering often got hold of him.

Dael was a strange but very nice guy. For example, he often hugged others on a random basis. But when I asked about his fursona, he said that his fursona was that of a buff dog-kangaroo. He was quite skinny, so I could understand the buff part. But like he called it, 'D'angeroo'? I did not understand. Nevertheless, I had never heard of such a hybrid, so he indeed got himself a very unique fursona which I actually envied.

Finally there was Alex. He was just a regular guy who recently discovered the furry fandom like me. But he had heard about the fandom far earlier than me. That was why he was already trying to come up with his own fursona. I did a few suggestions, but he really liked the brown tail he got from Seroth so we concluded that his fursona would be something like a brown wolf.

After already three rounds of bowling, I sat on the bench with a bottle of cola. I sipped from the straw while I watched the other bowling lanes. Our own bowling lanes were not played on, my new friends were sitting on chairs sipping from their cola like me or they were talking to each other at the table. I yawned. I was still a bit tired from waking up early today plus the ride to the bowling center.

"Let's go the fields!" Garrun exclaimed to Seroth.

"Well that is a great idea!" He raised his hands and cheered.

To the fields? I thought. Actually I wanted to go home and go to bed. It was eleven 'o clock already. I'd arrive at half past midnight if I left now.

"A farmland? What for?" I heard Alex asking while he was caressing his new brown tail.

"Well, to howl at the full moon of course. Raining has stopped, so we can walk to there. It's only a five minute walk."

"Yeah, why not." Alex replied.

I was about to say that I preferred to go home, but then I remembered that I was Alex's ride. Instead I tried to find out an alternative while we put on our jackets and exited to the damp parking lot.

"Uh... guys, you go ahead and howl in the fields. I'm going to take a nap in the car. I'm quite tired."

"Aww... Come on Silvertail." Garrun poked me.

"Naah, I'll just wait for you guys. But please don't hurry because I'm waiting, ok? Have fun!"

"Ok then. We sure will be having fun, huh guys?" He winked.

The furries and Alex cheered. Solid Fox halted though and took out his blue lenses.

"If you change your mind, we're somewhere in those fields." Garrun pointed into a direction across the road.

"You know where you exited the highway and drove on a gravel road? There we are." Seroth added.

"Ok, don't forget to howl for me!" I said as I opened the car door.

"Will do! AYUUUH!!" Dael already howled.

"Sigh..." I closed the door and opened the window a bit so the small gap allowed some fresh air to enter the car. I turned on the radio and put it on a low volume. Soft 70's and 80's were dwelling from the speakers. Again I yawned. I was tired for sure, but somehow I couldn't get to sleep. After a few minutes I realized I still had my silver tail on. I was sitting on it the whole time. No wonder that I couldn't sit comfortably. I wanted to take off the tail, but instead, for some reason I just pulled it from under my bum and let it hang next to the seat. After hearing a few howls, I was vast asleep.

Next on Radio 2: After midnight news bulletin, it's time for The Blue Moon. Noisy commercials erupted from the speakers after the short announcement.

I woke up with a jerk. I grunted and looked at the car clock. "What?!" It was already 11:55. Did I sleep that long? It would be half past one if I left for home right now. And where was Alex? I turned around, but nobody else but I was in the car. I stepped out of the car and scanned the parking lot. There was only the owner of the bowling center who locked the entrance and walked to one of the few cars left on the car park.

"Great..." I mumbled. Maybe I should find them I thought. So I stepped back into the car and searched for a torch in the dashboard cabinet. There it was. It was a plastic dynamo lamp. I squeezed the press button a few times which resulted in the torch to shine for short moments. Then I switched on the torch. The three LED's were faint. A few more squeezes and the LED's were brighter.

...never have to worry about any kind of accidents. Become a member of Always Assistance Insurance now and...

I closed the window and exited the car. While closing the door, I made sure that my tail didn't get stuck. Then I locked the car.

It was quite hard to walk in the dark because the streets didn't have lights. Above that, the full moon had difficulty to penetrate the rain clouds from before.

The faint light from the dynamo torch was almost useless. It only prevented me to step into puddles when the asphalt road with street lights turned into a dark gravel road. But well, the torch was only meant for emergencies and car maintenance anyway.

Suddenly I heard howls. They must've gone across this field. For a few feet I ran and then I jumped over the ditch, landing into the wet muddy ground.

"Damn..." I checked my dirty sneakers with the torch. There goes my new shoes, I thought. But it was then I saw the other shoe prints. The shoe prints directed deeper into the field. Lucky me, these are probably their foot prints, I thought. I followed the trails deeper and deeper into the fields up to the moment I couldn't see the dark road anymore.

"This is the last time that I'm someone's ride." I said irritated.

The clouds gave the full moon some space. At that moment, I saw a group of silhouettes in the far distance. That must be them! I thought. I quickened my pace. But as soon as I was approaching the group, the clouds interrupted the moon's rays.

"Damn, where are they now?" I switched on the faint torch and scanned the muddy ground with grass for footprints. I didn't find any. However I did find paw prints...

As stupid as I could be, my curiosity took over and I got closer to the group. They were about a hundred feet away now. Then the moon broke through the clouds again. Along as the moon's rays lit the fields again, the group started howling. I was shocked. The silhouettes looked like they were all wearing fursuits, but nothing was less true. The furries I had met this evening had transformed into their fursona's. Seroth was in his grey-white wolf form, Garrun as a pitch-black menacing werewolf, Dael as a buffed up d'angeroo, Solid Fox as a sensible red fox with sea-blue eyes and Ani as a trained wolf with blue and white colors. But most remarkable was that they all sat like wolves around one person: Alex. Alex was still human. The wolves howled and howled. I could see Alex gazing to the blue moon. Then it happened.

Alex shook and shivered without his locked eyes leaving the moon. His brown tail sprang to life as it started to wag. Brown fur started to erupt from his tail, spreading over his body. I could see his clothes and shoes being torn as his legs formed into digitigrades. But most horrifying was when Alex' head grew a muzzle and two pointy ears. The muzzle had sharp fangs as I could see the glimmering shine from the moon on his canines. Finally, when the transformation was complete, Alex joined the chorus of howls.

I was nailed to the ground. I couldn't move. I was too terrified. They actually DID change into... animals!

From the confusion, I squeezed the dynamo torch resulting it to let out a bright light for a short moment. Not bright enough to see the furries clearer, but bright enough for them to stop howling. They all turned to look at me.

I panicked. I dropped the torch, turned around and ran for my life. I sprinted into the direction I hoped I came from. My wet sneakers dug themselves at every step into the wet grass and mud. It slowed me down, but instincts told me to keep on running.

"Silvertail! Wait!" I heard Garrun with a heavier voice yelling.

I'm no Silvertail anymore! I thought. Suddenly I fell into a ditch. Because of the rain, the ditch was filled with water. I splashed and pushed myself to the other side. My whole lower body was drenched with dirty water now. With effort, I crawled up the side of the ditch which I jumped over easily minutes ago. My upper body was muddy and dirty. I kept on running on the gravel road, not minding any puddles I stepped into. I could see the distant few streetlights of the asphalt road. I had to, no, I must reach the car.

The asphalt road had intervals of bright orange light and long dark areas between them. I looked behind me. Because my eyes adjusted to bright light and dark road every time, I couldn't see far. But I didn't want to take any chances. I kept on running.

Finally I reached the Toyota. I grabbed the car keys and tried to unlock the car.

"Damn you! Come on!" I swore and I scratched the varnish before jamming the key into the keyhole. I quickly stepped in the car and swung the door closed with a bang. Agitated, I pushed the keys into the ignition.

Without any interruption, the radio continued to blare.

...Jokers to the left, here I am, stuck in the middle with you...

ZG.ZG.ZG.ZG.ZG.ZG.ZG.

Again I turned the key. But the engine continued to whine every time I turned the key.

ZG.ZG.ZG.ZG.ZG.ZG.ZG.ZG.

"START DAMMIT!!!" I screamed while I tried again and again. I even started hitting the gas pedal when I turned the key.

ZG.ZG.Zg.ZG.ZG.Zg.ZG... Zg... Zg... zg...

...And your friends, they all come crawling. Slap you on the back and say; Please... Please...

"FACK!!" I swore when I realized the radio had been turned on the whole time. The battery was surely too depleted to get the engine started. I hit the steering wheel with my fist in anger when I suddenly felt the moon's rays shining through the windshield.

Then I felt my tail twitching.

No...

Meh, there's no need to put all kind of drama in this story. So this was my story about how I became a furry. By the way, you don't need to worry if the TF hurts. First time it actually did hurt a bit, but I'm used to it now. Damn, I even enjoy it now. They told me afterwards they tried to stop me when I ran away and explain everything to me, but they decided to just let it happen. And so it happened.

Now, if you would excuse me. It's full moon and almost midnight.

Thank you for reading! Cya!
