Part 40.

Wolverine now walks the streets of London, aimlessly heading anywhere away from Doberman manor, tears fill his eyes as his brain processes the earlier events. He realises with horror that for some reason he has gone from being the loved mate of Senior Linkin Doberman, to being an outcast, cold and alone.

Thoughts begin to swim through his head, he wants so badly to find out why his relationship with Senior Doberman ended, but he also knows that he has no chance of getting back to Doberman manor, so he decides to take refuge in an alleyway for the night, a cardboard box his only shelter.

Wolverine slips into a fitful and disturbed sleep, he knows that he is tired and needs to rest, but again the thoughts of why he now finds himself alone are ruining any chance that he has of getting a good night's rest.

Sometime later, Wolverine's ears pick up the sound of screaming and the unmistakeable sounds of a fight, he tries his best to ignore the noise, but he soon comes to realise that there is nothing else for it other than to go and find the source of the noise.

He steadily gets out of his cardboard box and stands to his full height of 7', his ears tune in to the sounds and he follows the trail. Wolverine walks for five minutes and then is suddenly confronted with what seems like a very one sided fight, he looks at a ring of furs that surrounds a single poor unfortunate, he realises that there are twelve maybe thirteen guys in the ring, each of them giving some sort of punishment beating to an as yet unseen fur. Wolverine stands clear of the shadows and then clears his throat loudly gaining the attention of the ring of furs.

"Look guys, I've had a really fucking bad day, so all I want is a little sleep in my cardboard box, is that too much to fucking ask?"

One of the beating furs breaks away from the ring and heads slowly towards Wolverine, he then speaks with a growl.

"If I were you I would fuck off out of here and not get involved, this is a private party and you ain't invited"

Wolverine quickly glances passed the guy and can see the bloody mess that is a fellow wolf, lying on the ground and whimpering. Wolverine looks back to the guy who is now standing just inches away from him and speaks.

"Hey that actually looks like fun, I could do with getting rid of some pent up aggression, mind if I join in?"

The guy, a stud collar wearing Rottweiler, looks unsure at first, but then agrees and leads Wolverine back to the fight. The blood stained wolf in the centre looks up to Wolverine, and unseen to the rest, Wolverine winks at the beaten wolf.

Wolverine counts how many there are in the ring, twelve, with him making thirteen, he looks up at the ring of furs and speaks.

"Looks like thirteen is your unlucky number guys"

With that Wolverine begins to take on the ring of furs, starting with the Rottweiler, before the others have come back to their senses there is already eight guys out cold on the floor, Wolverine speaks out again.

"Who's fucking next?"

The four remaining furs quickly turn tail and run off, not wanting to be next on Wolverine's hit list. Wolverine now kneels down next to the beaten wolf.

"Man those bastards did a real good job with you my friend"

Wolverine is about to gently pick the wolf up when his cell phone rings, at first he doesn't want to answer it, but a quick look at the caller display tells him that Wolfie is calling, so he answers my call.

"Hey bro, look before you get all angry and pissed at me, I need someone with a car to come and collect me and a friend, and then drive us to the hospital, I'm in the alleyway behind Chen's laundrette on Oxford Street, bro please hurry"

Wolverine then hangs up.

I quickly put my phone down and pull off from the side of the road, I had parked up to call Wolverine, but now that I knew where he was it was now my mission to get there. I race into Oxford Street and quickly find the alleyway in question; the alleyway is just wide enough for me to drive my Range Rover down.

I emerge from the other end of the alleyway and I see Wolverine cradling a badly beaten wolf in his arms, I quickly jump out of the car and head to the trunk, from the trunk I pull out an old blanket and then I lay it on the back seat, then I head over to Wolverine and the unknown and now unconscious wolf.

"Right bro, first we'll get your friend here fixed up at the hospital, and then you and I are going to have a brotherly chat"

Wolverine hangs his head a little but nods, then walks to the car and gently lays the wolf on the blanket. Both me and Wolverine get into the car and I begin to slowly reverse back the way I had come, once clear of the alleyway, I quickly turn the car around and head as fast as I can towards the nearest hospital.

I look at Wolverine and speak.

"Bro, call Senior Doberman to let him know that you are ok, he is worried sick about you, and then I would like you to call Calvin on my cell phone and tell him to meet us at St Bartholomew's hospital"

Wolverine lets out a dejected sigh but then fishes his cell phone from his pocket, he slowly scrolls through his phones contact list until he gets to the desired number, and then with a gulp he presses call. After just one ring a crying Linkin answers the phone.

"Oh thank the lord, Wolverine, where in the fuck are you?"

Wolverine begins to cry as he hears Linkin's concerned voice; between sobs Wolverine answers his ex lover.

"I.....I'm with Wolfie, we're heading towards St Bart's hospital"

The phone is silent for a second before Linkin gives his reply.

"Ok, how long until you get there?"

Wolverine looked out of the window and watched as the hospital signs went flashing passed.

"The way Wolfie is driving, I guess about two to three minutes"

Again the phone goes silent for a second, and then Linkin speaks again.

"Ok, I'm leaving the house now; I will be with you soon. Wolverine, please don't leave the hospital until I get there"

With that the phone went dead and Wolverine slowly closes his cell and placed it back in his pocket, he then took my phone from the dashboard and called Calvin to tell him to meet us at the hospital.

We arrive at the hospital and I park in front of the doors, Wolverine quickly jumps out of the car and runs to the back and gently removes the wolf from the back seat, he then rushes in through the automatic doors and vanishes from sight, I take the opportunity to find a proper parking space and to remove the blood stained blanket from the seat, I dump the blanket in a trash can and then head into the hospital.

As I enter I see Wolverine standing at the main desk, he is clearly trying to help the receptionist with her enquires about the injured wolf, I then stand at my brothers side, the receptionist looks up at me and instantly recognises me.

"Mr Steel, what brings you here on this cold night?"

I greet the receptionist warmly and make my reply.

"Hi Trish, yeah it is cold out tonight, but this guy standing at my side is my brother Wolverine, he also works for Senior Doberman, the wolf that was brought in by my brother is to be afforded the best treatment he can get, if Senior Doberman won't clear the bill, then I will"

The receptionist gently nods her head and completes the rest of the paperwork. Both Wolverine and I now head to the waiting area and find some empty seats. As we sit down, Calvin comes running through the doors closely followed by Linkin, Matt and Todd, Senior Doberman looks at me and speaks.

"Well that's a relief at least, thoughts of Wolverine being hurt in a fight were going through my mind, but whoever you have brought in I will foot the bill"

He then kneels by Wolverine's side and begins to sob.

"I'm so sorry Wolverine; I never meant to hurt you so badly. I just hope that you can find it within your heart to forgive me?"

At first Wolverine remains motionless, but then he quickly leans down and hugs the still sobbing Doberman. Once the emotions have died down, I take Wolverine to one side for our brotherly chat.

"Bro, I know that you have every right to go off the rails after Linkin broke up with you, but I thought that you were more rational minded then to just run off into the night, I could have understood you running off to one of the spare rooms, or even out to the gardens, but bro, the middle of fucking London, what the fuck were you thinking?"

Wolverine looks down at me and nods slightly.

"I'm sorry that I worried you Wolfie, but I needed to get as far away from Doberman manor as my paws would carry me, as it happens though, there is one wolf that is lucky that I was close by"

I couldn't deny his logic on that score, even though I wanted to rip him to shreds for making us all worry, this was one dark cloud that really did have a silver lining.

We both head back to the seating area just in time for the doctor to appear from the emergency room, he headed straight for Wolverine.

"That young wolf in the emergency room is one very lucky pup, he has suffered nothing more severe than a few deep cuts, which we are at this moment dressing, some bruises which in time will heal themselves, and a cracked rib, which again given time and rest it should heal nicely. That young man owes you a great debt my friend"

The doctor now turns and heads back into the emergency room. There is an audible sigh of relief from everyone, ok yes the poor wolf is a bit battered and bruised, but thanks to Wolverine's intervention, he will make a full recovery.
