The hunger is gone, but the memory of it remains.

The part of me that refused me is found again, and men flock to its holder. They make places to use it, fight over it, use it to assert their dominance over each other, and they mate. The energy I receive this way is minor now, but it is welcome.

In the span of what they consider their lives, one gains hold of it and keeps it longer than any before him, becoming powerful, on their scale, proud and gluttonous. He has men mate around him at all times and basks in the energy that flows through the part of me that refuses me. He tries to steal more of the energy that is mine, but like the others before, it is beyond him and he needs to content himself with what he gains from holding the part of me that refuses me.

When he loses the part of me that refuses me, it isn't in a battle, nor a contest of will. He is not bested, this thief walks through the crowd of mating males, ignored because of how old he is. It is not a disguise, none of them can hide their truth from me. Another like me watches him, but does not take part in the old hyena's action.

The part of me that refuses me sits on a low pedestal, next to the current holders sacred bed, where he is mating with six other males, using the potency he has been granted to mount them repeatedly. He notices the old hyena approaching and dismisses him in disgust.

The old hyena watches them mate, and I sense the excitement he feels, something as old as he is, a memory of something longed for. His body is incapable of reacting to the desire he feels, and I think I understand why he is here; to use the part of me that refuses me to give himself the strength to mate one last time before his end.

He takes the part of me that refuses me and hides it in his robes, putting a replacement on the pedestal. I do not understand how it will fool any of them, this replica is dead. A flash of pride washes from the other like me, before he leaves. I look at the world again, searching for any indication they had a hand in this, but there is none. His pride was akin to what I feel watching them perform a particularly arduous mating.

When I find the old hyena, he is leaving the building, his prize hidden on his person. I am perplexed, I can sense the part of me affect him, his body reacting to his lust for the first time in a long part of his short life, but he does not act on it. Once he is outside the building I forget about him, taking in the faint energy from the mating males.

When I am again drawn to the part of me that refuses me, little time must have passed for the old hyena, because he is still alive in his cavern, hiding from the weather. My arrival chases the other like me away. I look at the world, but still, no indications they did anything. Like me, they are only watching.

The old hyena does something to the part of me that refuses me, no, to the energy that radiates from it. He manipulates it as one of mine manipulates the energy I grant them. Could any holding the part of me that refuses me do this, or is this hyena different? There is nothing that feels different about him. There is no sense of the other through him, as mine has a sense of me through them. I consider reaching for him, offering him to become mine, but I hesitate.

Curiosity stop me.

All that held the part of me that refuses me before used it to assert their dominance in mating because that is what I am. None made the energy do other things and I am curious what this old hyena intends to do with the energy that he is forcing through his body.

The old hyena's body shudders in a faint release of energy that means nothing to me. He isn't mating. I go elsewhere, knowing that I will be drawn back to the part of me that refuses me. If the old hyena still has it, I will see what becomes of him.

I jerked awake with a grunt and a silent curse, as Stefan nuzzled my neck.

"Morning," he grumbled, his hand reaching down my front through my cum stiff fur until he grasped my morning wood.

I should have known better than to have sex on his bed, on any bed these days. They were too comfortable, I was bound to relax and sleep. I silently cursed Him yet again and reached for the collie's hard-on with a hand and for Okhmhaka's with the other.

The alarm on my phone went off as both of them responded to my touch. "Fuck," I sighed.

"Ignore it," Stephan whispered, stroking my cock.

"I can't, I have to go to work."

The brindled wolf nipped at my neck. "Isn't sex work for you Society guys?"

"Okhmhaka!" Stephan exclaimed, "sex is pleasure. Only those who earn a living through it might consider it work."

"Hey, I didn't mean anything by it."

"Really? So if I call tending a lush garden work, you aren't going to be offended?"

"I won't," the wolf replied with a chuckle, "because I know you wouldn't mean it."

I extricated myself from the bed in spite of both of them trying to pull me back. "I have to shower and go. We're assaulting the house today and there's a lot to still get ready. You want to fuck me, it has to be in the shower, and the price is that you have to wash my fur too!" I yelled after the running collie.

I caught the wistful look Okhmhaka gave the vanishing Stephan. "Did he explain how deep our relationship with our god runs?" I asked, managing to keep the anger out of my voice.

"He did." The wolf stood and stretched, making his cock jump. "But I always had a thing for hurt animals, or people. It's why I became a vet, it's what led me to my god. I know Stephan can't return the feelings, but at least he understands it's not something I can help, and he doesn't mind that I tend to him."

"So he knows how you feel?"

Okhmhaka chuckled. "I learned a while back to put it on the table as soon as I felt it. It's easier to end it when I'm not too emotionally involved."

"If you two are fucking without me," Stephan yelled from the bathroom, "I am kicking you out without your clothing!"

"We should join him," the wolf said.

"Yeah. I'm already going to be late as it is. It's a good thing I own the company. I'd hate to have to explain to the boss I was late because I just couldn't keep those two guys from fucking me over and over."

"You're still not here!" Stephan yelled.

Laughing, we ran for the shower.

I looked at the house through the screens. The van was parked two blocks away, the sides proclaiming it to be a plumbing company, and the building we were in front of did have a request for us to be here.

"How sure are we this isn't a trap?" Leroy asked. He looked at information on his screen, entered commands, looked satisfied with the result.

"We're sure it is," I replied, "but we've taken our precautions. Report," I said in the radio.

"We're in place," Tom answered. "I have eight teams of four ready to storm the sniper's positions, even if they aren't down by the time you storm the house, they are going to be too busy to act."

"Good, wait for my signal." I changed frequency. "Doc, are they still sniffing around Hemingway?"

"How would I know? The detective was released yesterday. I can tell you that the story you built to explain how the calico ended up in the hospital worked. I mean he played his part in spite of knowing it's a lie and the officers who questioned him bought that he thinks he really fainted due to stress and scrapped his back in the fall. I wasn't close enough to hear everything, but the sense I got is that they have no idea if someone should remember getting marked once they're gone."

"Thanks Doc." Another frequency. "George, is Hemingway home?"

"He is. As is his escort. They aren't even trying to be subtle about it. Every couple of hours a cop knocks at his door. I'd be getting paranoid by now."

"There his friends from the precinct, checking in on him after his accident."

"Right, and does anyone actually believe that? Maybe these people don't know something's off. But someone up the chain had to."

"As demonstrated by the increase in surveillance at Steel Link and everyone who leaves it."

"So, whose bright idea was it to mount an attack on the guy controlling them all under these circumstances?"

"Fred's," I replied, but George already knew that. He'd been there when I was hitting my head against the whiteboard trying to figure out how to deal with the situation.

The obvious way was for me to isolate everyone marked and free them, but each one would be a red flag to the one controlling them. I'd tried scrying for the man behind it, but nothing. Of course, once we found the house, we understood why. That thing had so much warding magic around it I was surprised it could be seen at all.

How to find it had also been Fred's idea, although I should have thought about it. Using the thread to triangulate the controller was kind of obvious.

Me and five others, they equipped with a talisman Fred made with the phrase that let them see magic, let us to the large magical blind spot that was this house. Having so many marked officers following my people made that easy. Figuring out who lived here had been more difficult, but Leroy and his team of slicers had come through.

Miles Tillsley was a priest out of Edmonton, Alberta, who had transferred to a low-income diocese in Denver seven months ago. Between him and Damian had been eight degrees of separation, but they were there.

My initial thought was that Damian was in Denver, since he had to be the one controlling everyone marked by the Gray Church, but Fred had corrected me. Damian couldn't control everyone directly, it was just too many people. He had to do it through local coordinators, so Tillsley had to be one of those.

Which lead to this.

"Assault teams, get into position," I said on the general frequency as I exited the van. I waited for Tom's complaining about me being on the front line, even if I was the most powerful magic breaker we had at this time.

He remained silent?

"Tom," I grumbled to myself, "if you are busy being fucked in the middle of this I am sacking you and whoever's cock is in your ass." I motioned for my team to follow. We took position by the house adjacent Tillsley's. We were the frontal assault team. Break the magic and go in hard.

I brought the radio to my mouth as my phone rang. Fuck, had I forgotten to silence it? Then I realized it was the urgent tone that rang. I looked at the display and answered.

"Stephan--"

"Don't go in the house!"

"What?"

"It's a trap, I just had a vision of your being torn apart as you stepped in."

"Stephan, calm--"

"You have to believe me!" He was getting hysteric.

"I do." I lowered the phone. "Get on the radio, we're aborting the assault. Stephan just saw it go bad in the worse way." I motioned for the team to head back the way we came. "Can you give me any details?"

Stephan's breathing calmed, I heard Okhmhaka comforting him. "You made it five steps into a living room. Normal furniture, I guess. There was a, no, multiple flashes of light and you were torn apart by shrapnel."

"Thank you Stephan, you just saved my life."

The collie hiccuped, I thought he laughed. "After everything I caused you, it's the least I can do."

I was going to have another talk with him to explain I didn't hold him responsible for my son's kidnapping. "Did you see anything else? Can you tell me who is in the house?"

"I'm sorry. You know that isn't how my precognition works. I only saw what you saw, it ended once you died."

"I'll see you as soon and I can, but it might take a while, we need to figure out how to proceed if we can't use a direct assault."

"I understand." His voice was shaky. My voice wasn't enough confirmation, he'd need to touch me. Until then Okhmhaka you be there for him. It was why I hadn't involved him in any operations, but of course, we'd had sex and with his cum in me, he was involved that I wanted to or not.

I stopped by the van and stepped out of my body. I couldn't see the house behind all the wardings, but I saw the hundreds of threads vanishing into it. Tillsley was definitely in there. Now the question was how was I going to get to him.

* * * * *

"So, can we grab him when he goes grocery shopping?" Tom asked, feet on a desk.

"He hasn't left the house in two months," Leroy replied, typing away at his desk.

"He knows he's in enemy territory," I said, "he isn't going to make himself vulnerable."

"Then we intercept the grocery delivery van and use that to get in," Victor said.

Tom snorted, and I glared at the badger. "Behave or I'm sending you down to supervised the shooting range."

The badger raised his hands in a surrendering gesture, but his grin said he didn't mean it. Someone else I needed to have another talk with.

"He isn't going to receive groceries for another six months based on the order that was delivered when he shut himself in."

"Have you found his phone?" I asked

"No, The Gray Church used the slicers and sifters we miss. They have really good ones, and now that Damian is in control, they aren't shy about using magic to make them harder to find."

"They're stealing our tricks," Chimbo said.

"Everyone who has magic does it," Leroy replied.

"So if we can't go in, how do we draw him out?"

"Without him knowing we're behind it?" Tom asked, "can't be done. The assault was supposed to be covert, we used Fred's talisman to look for anyone marked who could have seen us and made sure they were distracted, still the target knew we were coming. He knows he scared us away." He paused at the protest that erupted. He looked at me and rolled his eyes. Egos.

I shrugged. "So now, no matter what we do, he will expect it to be a ploy."

The door opened and Stephan ran at me. He hugged me, buried his muzzle in my neck and breathed in my scent. I held him. "We're going to pick this up in a bit."

"Sorry," Okhmhaka said, "he couldn't wait to confirm you were okay."

"It's fine." I tightened my arms around the collie. "I'm okay, Stephan."

"I know." He relaxed in my arms. "I hated being this scared all the time."

"You're working through it, you said your therapist was hopeful."

Stephan nodded in the crook of my neck. "But the women lover won't use magic to fix me. Says he can't just make it go away. I hope he gets pregnant."

I looked at the brindled wolf for any reaction. No one within the Society would thing me and Stephan were more than friends in spite of how much comforting I did for him, but Okhmhaka had feeling for the collie, and it was one to say he was okay with the situation, it was another to watch the man he cared for seeking comfort in another man's arms.

The wolf rolled his eye at me. "Out of curiosity, in how much of a hurry how to get the guy out of that house?"

"Who talked?" I asked, not angry, but annoyed I was going to have yet another talk with someone.

"They did." He motioned to the plants in the room. "Ferns are amazing at recording conversations."

"I see. Well, this explains the gifts of plans from your predecessors. Any reason they felt the need to spy on me?"

"Come on, Denton, someone from the Society asks to work with us, I don't think that's ever happened before. It didn't matter what your sister said, they weren't going to just trust you."

I sighed. "Am I still considered a treat?"

"Only with the withered leaves. The rest of us we see the world is changing, cooperating helps everyone. I've offered to help before, you're the one who's been keeping me at arms length."

"Yeah, sorry. I guess I'm still a bit bitter at how Magdee was forced to leave."

"She was skirting her duties. If she hadn't been so stubborn, I'm sure they could have worked out something."

I snorted. "The term bull-headed was created to describe my family. There wasn't going to be any reasoning with her. Okay, so the plants; what's their range?"

"Planning on hiding things from us?" Okhmhaka asked with a grin.

"I run a security company, that is a firm yes. There are things I can't afford having other people know. I hope you understand that."

"I do. And as for the plants, it varies, ferns are the best. A full-grown one can easily hear two dozen feet away. These about a dozen."

"How insulted well your people be if I get rid of all the plants?" That would be the easiest way to deal with this.

"Not insulted at all, but they would wonder what you're trying to hide."

"Okay so they stay, except for strategic places. To answer your question, I'll accept any kind of time frame that make priest Tillsley leave his house without shooting at everything that moves. Although faster would be better. Fred figures that if I break the threads at his junction, it shouldn't trigger the death of those freed since their marks should interpret that as being willingly released. Don't ask for details, Fred tried to explain, and I had to shove my cock down his muzzle to shut him up before the headache turned into a migraine. Sometimes that man likes talking about magic way too much."

The wolf chuckled as he nodded. "Wish I'd seen that." I was silent. "I don't think I can get him out in under two weeks. Fauna is my main affinity, but I'm decent with Flora. This makes me particularly good with making mold grow. Most people have no idea what mold's life cycle is, but too fast and he's going to be suspicious."

"You want to get mold growing in his house? He has wards up, no magic can go through."

"That won't be a problem, I won't be doing magic through the wards. I'll be doing it outside and letting the mold do the rest. Once there's enough in the house, he's going to have to call in experts, or leave. I think either will work for what you want, right?"

"Yes, it will. Let's go upstairs to give the collie a comfort fuck and you can get to work."

Stephan snorted in my neck.
