The sun was bright, making the surrounding nature shine in its glory. The gentle breeze didn't cause any disturbance and was actually welcome given that it was quite a hot day.

And there, next to a small wooden hut, sat an old wolf on a small wooden bench. The fact that after all these seventy-three years his fur still held the same black shine was a surprise, but his eyes did not enjoy the same fate. Anyone could tell by looking at his half transparent pupils that he could not see well. Nevertheless, he smiled.

Yes. He was happy. Happy to be able to watch over his grandchildren.

Not too far away from him a group of children happily played in the grass, enjoying their free time together.

Only one of them, who didn't seem to be enjoying his time like the others, slowly approached the hut.

The old wolf observed a compass in his hands that didn't seem to be working.

"Gramps? What're you doing?" the little boy asked. In a way, the two looked much alike.

The old wolf lifted his gaze from the compass, raising an eyebrow as he noticed who it was.

"Cage...what's the matter? Done playing?" He asked in a quiet tone. Cage, the small wolf, sat on the bench right next to his grandfather.

"I don't want to play with those cheaters, they always take the ball away!! Especially Steve..." he looked into another direction, just not too where three other kids were playing around with a ball. The old wolf smiled, returning his gaze back to his compass.

"Hehe...." He chuckled. Cage curiously looked over to what his grandfather was holding.

"Gramps...what're you doing?"

"Me?" The old wolf asked. He then lifted his hand so that Cage could see. "You see this? It isn't working any more. I'm trying to fix it." He then continued to observe it.

The next minute was silent, and Cage began feeling himself irrateted due to the fact that the others were having fun without him. But he was a type to hold his pride.

"Gramps...lets go fishing." he abruptly said, still looking into another direction. The old wolf put his compass to the side and to Cages surprise, without telling him, lifted him up into the air, starring into the small wolfs eyes. Cage was just surprised that he did it so fast, not because he was actually able to do it. He knew all too well that his grandfather was once a master of sports and that he still got up every morning to train. It was actually quite normal to him that his grandfather was strong, maybe too strong,

The old wolf smiled, looking into his relatives eyes.

"Cage, I know you're upset because of their behavior, but it isn't every summer you get to see your cousins. We'll definitely go fishing next week, I promise."

"But-"

"What do I always tell you?" the old wolf asked.

"Yeah but I'm strong already!!" Cage said, trying not to look into his grandfathers eyes. He knew all his grandfathers teachings by heart.

"You?" his grandfather chuckled. Cage sighed.

"Gramps..."

The old wolf let him down, still looking into his eyes. Cage knew it, this was lecturing time.

"Look, they're acting the same way you are right now. Want to hear a secret?" His grandfather whispered , making Cages ears perk up. The old wolf looked at the other group of kids, making Cage look too. They were so into the game that they didn't have time to notice the two. "Steve really, really wanted to see you."

"Really?" Cage asked, with clear suspicion in his voice. But he knew that his grandfather would never lie to him, because the man had a pure heart. Cage had never respected anyone more than his grandfather.

"Yes. So don't isolate yourself from them because they chose to pick on you a bit. Go and show them! And Chloe-"

"I hate her..." Cage crossed his arms, sitting back onto the bench. His grandfathers kept on smiling.

"Hey...my boy. I told you something about women, didn't I?"

"Yeah but shes different. She's trying to act all tough and bosses everyone around...and-"

"Don't whine. You're a man." Cage understood, falling silent. He couldn't explain his feelings towards his female cousin because he never understood her feelings towards him. Now shes nice, then shes full of hatred. Cage didn't like that sort of thing. His grandfather sighed, looking at the one female who was just about to throw the ball. "She wanted to see you more than anyone else."

"Pff. Yeah, to make fun of me because I can't read well." There was again, a simple silence.

"I think to her, you're very special my boy. And no matter what kind of women, I told you a hundred times, never hurt her. Alone because of the fact that you two grew up together, think about it Cage, you'll never experience those things with someone else."

His grandfathers words didn't get to him at first but when he thought about it, it was true. Though he still held some kind o unexplainable grudge against her for the attitude.

"Talking about women. Hows it going with...ehm-"

"Katy? She's dumb..." Cage turned on his pissed of mood again. His grandfather always found that amusing.

"Hehehe....."

There was the usual silence and Cage knew that his grandfather preferred that he would think things through first. The more he watched his cousins play, the more he got the feeling that he was missing out the fun because of himself.

I mean...should I just go and apologize? Well...

He looked at his grandfather, who was busy meddling with his compass again, and smiled.

Gramps will sure be proud if I make the move on them, besides...I wanna play again!

Cage looked at his grandfather, and without hesitation jumped on the old man, hugging him tightly. He usually did this as a greeting or goodbye but he felt the urge to express his happiness right at that moment.

"Gramps....you're the best."

The old man only laughed, hugging his grandson, eventually placing him back on the ground. Cage smiled.

"Hahaha..." The old wolf placed his paw onto his Cages head."Go on..."

And the small boy made his way towards his cousins who still hadn't noticed a thing. Before he was too far away he turned around, looking at his grandfather who was also still watching him. There was some sort of feeling of protection and ease that he felt everytime he looked into his grandfathers eyes.

"Gramps?" Cage waited for the old mans attention, which he received after his grandfather raised his eyebrow. "We're always gonna be together right?"

There was a short silence, and Cage could feel the breeze rush through his fur.

The old man only smiled.

"Without a doubt my boy. Without a doubt."
