The wind howled outside the entrance of the cave. Cynder was curled up next to the fire. She looked worriedly outside, watching the blizzard blow snow in all directions. Her mate had said that he would be back by the morning of the solstice, but that was today, and it was already past noon. Spyro had insisted on getting presents for the kids, and had left a little over a week ago. Cynder looked down at the three hatchlings sleeping in her arms.

"Don't worry little ones, your father should be back soon" She whispered to them.

The children were Spyro and Cynder's pride and joy, one black, looking like a carbon copy of her mother. One red, looking just like his father, except for his eyes, which he got from his mother, and on white, with her father's eyes and horns, but her mother's tailblade and underbelly pattern. Cynder smiled at the hatchlings as they slept, oblivious to the raging blizzard outside. Cynder loved the winters here despite them being colder than the ones at Warfang. Spyro had found this place while on one of his many missions that the guardians had sent his on. Those missions being one of the reasons why they decided to move in the first place. Spyro had been forced to leave for weeks at a time, and it put a strain on their relationship. The guardians were not happy when Spyro told them they were leaving, they even promised to send him on fewer missions. But the missions had been only one of the reasons. The people of Warfang never forgave her for her actions while she was corrupted, and they constantly harassed her while Spyro was away. Sometimes they did it while he was there, causing Spyro to get injured many times because of her. Cynder had to bail him out of jail many times because of this. Whenever he would come home to find Cynder battered and bruised, he would enter a fit of rage, and send her attackers to the hospital with many broken bones. But he always felt angrier at himself, because he wasn't there to protect her. Cynder shook her head, clearing her mind of the bad memories and filling it with good ones. So many good things have happened since then; the look on Spyro's face when she told her that she was ready to have children always made her smile. The look on his face when he held his son, who hatched first, made her beam with pride. Spyri had rescued her from corruption, and then proceeded to love and protect her unconditionally. He always managed to do the nicest things for her, but she never knew how to return them. But when she gave him their children, she knew she had given him something he would love for the rest of his life. Spyro had always shown signs that he would be a great father. But Cynder had been more worried about herself; she had been corrupted, and had hurt people, even Spyro. She also never had any kind of parental figure and had no idea how to raise children. She was still worried even when she told Spyro it was time, but she knew that he had been longing to start a family with her. She had started to catch him daydreaming, or just staring at her, she even caught him singing, making up lullabies that only their children would hear. Cynder chuckled a little; those lullabies were now the same ones that she sang to them every night to get them to go to sleep. She heard a rustle from outside the cave and instinctively lowered her head. People still hated her, and she didn't want to think about what they might do if they find her with children. She heard a whistle and immediately relaxed, she called to her mate, making a chirp that he instantly recognized. The purple dragon walked into the cave and smiled at his mate.

"Sorry I'm late, that blizzard really slowed me down."

Cynder motioned him over, and nuzzled his cheek. "You're here now, that's all that matters."

"I ran into Michael" Spyro told her. "He helped me pick out the perfect gifts."

"What did you get them?"

"A wooden doll for Dawn, a ball for Ignitus, and a cute little plushy for Daisy."

"That's perfect." Cynder purred. "I'm so lucky to have you."

"I got something for you too."

Cynder looked up at him, shocked, and smiled. "You didn't have too."

Spyro just smiled and handed her a small box. Cynder gasped when she opened it to find an elaborately carved gold bracelet, it was set with four stones; one purple, one red, one black, and one white.

"Happy Solstice honey." Spyro whispered.

Cynder felt tears form in her eyes when she put the bracelet on, she looked over at Spyro and smiled brightly. The nuzzled for a while, enjoying each other's company, before the hatchlings awoke and chirped happily at their father.

"Hi little ones, did you miss me?"

"They kept looking around for you, as if you were hiding somewhere." Cynder told him.

Spyro picked up his bag, and opened it. The hatchlings were too busy playing on their father to notice him pulling out three toys. Spyro handed each of the little ones their respective toys. Dawn took the small wooden dragon and smiled up at her father; Ignitus pounced on his ball and chirped happily as it bounced away. But Daisy stayed with Spyro, playing with his paws.

"She missed you the most." Cynder explained.

Spyro smiled, and laid down next to her, Daisy pounced on his face, making him laugh and grab the squealing hatchling.

"C'mere you." He pulled Daisy into a hug.

The white hatchling squirmed a little, before giving up and sinking into the hug. Cynder smiled at her mate and daughter.

"Happy solstice." He murmured to her.

A whistle sounded from outside the cave.

"We have company?" Cynder asked

"Michael said he might come by." Spyro replied. "But I thought the blizzard would change his mind."

Spyro whistled back, and a black dragon walked into the cave, he was completely covered in snow, and looked more like a white dragon. Michael shook off the snow and smiled at the family.

"Hello" He greeted them.

"Happy solstice." Spyro called.

"And to you too." Michael replied. "I just wanted to check in on you guys, I have to leave in a few days."

Spyro nodded. "Hey, did you find Sparx?"

Michael smiled. "Yes, and I invited him to come with me but he refused, because his wife's pregnant."

Spyro smiled back. "I was wondering when that was going to happen."

Michael chuckled. "I hope fatherhood will mature him more than marriage has."

Cynder rolled his eyes. "I hope he doesn't comment on it constantly, he kept doing it when I was pregnant."

"He stopped, after you threatened to make him eat his own wings." Spyro replied.

"That was right after I laid, of course he stopped." Cynder chuckled.

"I have gifts for you." Michael cut in.

They both looked back at him as he pulled out a series of wrapped items.

"Since this is the first time I've left since you came here, I am giving you communicator amulets. These aren't commonly used anymore but they will work to communicate."

Cynder opened hers, and noticed that it was a special amulet designed to attach directly to her choker, its designs matched it perfectly. Spyro's was the same color as his horns, and the stone itself was black, while Cynder's was purple. Michael smiled as Dawn ran up to him and chirped.

"Hello Charcoal, look what you got." He spoke.

Dawn chirped, and reached up to paw at Michael's snout.

"You look just like your mother, don't you?" Michael added.

Dawn smiled and squeaked up at him.

"I was going to give them daggers..."

"They're not even a year old!" Cynder interrupted.

"You would let them have them when they get older. But instead I made these."

Michael pulled out three matching necklaces. They each had a clear crystal in the center.

"Ethereal quartz, when they are old enough, these will protect them from eldritch magic, corruption, and all other forms of evil."

Cynder looked up at Michael and gave him a grateful nod.

"They also can connect them to powerful beings like me, or the Chronicler, as well as any ethereal being that might help them."

Michael flashed his eyes, and the crystals began to glow blue. The two parents nodded and Michael set the necklaces on a flat stone nearby. He smiled as Dawn flicked her tail and ran over to her parents.

"Where are you going?" Cynder asked him

"A different cluster, there is an evil sorcerer causing problems. I should be back in a few months, don't start a war while I'm gone." Michael answered.

Cynder chuckled, and Spyro rolled his eyes.

"I am strengthening the protection runes on this place, nobody will find you here, enjoy your holiday." Michael nodded, and vanished.

Spyro turned back to Cynder and smiled. "I think I'm going to take a nap, flying against a blizzard is tiring."

"Go ahead, I got them."

Spyro curled tightly around his mate, and sighed. "I love you Cynder."

"I love you too, happy solstice."

"And to many, many more." Spyro mumbled back, closing his eyes.
