I hated Basil Lawson. There was nothing more to be said about him. He was an absolute bastard. He was also the leader of the weretigers in LA. I sat in the office of Domination, his club in downtown LA. It was a fur-only club, and it seemed Basil had taken to loathing the humans as well as the other animals groups. He sat behind his desk, standing at six foot eight, he was muscular, more muscular than I'd ever seen an alpha be. He was dressed in a tailored Armani suit done in black, a black silk shirt underneath and slender black tie, black loafers and a black silver loop through the base of one ear. His fur was light grey and black. I'd never seen a tiger with that colouring before. We'd seen some of the others tigers in his group and all were the traditional orange and black, or yellow and black. But I'd never even realised tigers could be this dark in colour. His eyes were a pale lavender colour. He was beautiful if we were going on looks alone, but the feline's attitude was so angry and basic it made it difficult to remain in a room with him, let alone speak with him about LA's coalition invitation. I suppose that was why Donovan had been as unfortunate as he was to be volunteered for the job of bringing the LA tigers into the coalition ranks.

Rumour was that Basil had come along and had slaughtered the original alpha, Nico. Now it seemed while Nico had been a traditional alpha, Basil was just plain arrogant and believed in himself far too much. It made me anxious.

Donovan sat beside me, all six foot three of him, he was no longer slender, but had instead bulked a little and had more muscle definition than before. He watched Basil with pale green eyes, calm and level-headed, befitting of an alpha werewolf I suppose, the gentle cream of his fur streaked with orange and golden yellow strands. He was dressed in a white dress shirt, the sleeves rolled back over his elbows. A black vest wrapped around his ubber body and a slender black tie. Black trousers and black dress shoes finished the attire. He had also donned a silver bracelet round one wrist as well as a silver loop through one eyebrow. Standing at five foot nine, I was small compared to the two alphas sat in the room. Light grey fur streaked with white here and there, the white strands were new and according to Donovan may have something to do with the unusual talent I possessed. I was male, but the beast inside me was female and had bound herself to four alphas within the coalition. Whenever my emotions ran high and the wolf rose to the surface I transformed and adopted strange and unique powers that allowed me to freeze things at the touch of a paw. I also donned pure white fur and the air around me turned colder too. I'd transformed maybe four times so far and it seemed doing so had streaked my grey fur with white. I took a deep breath as I let Donovan reason with the weretiger before us. I sat back in my seat, elbows rested on the arm rests. I had two silver loops through one ear and watched Basil with pale blue eyes as he spoke. I was dressed in a pale blue dress shirt, the sleeves unbuttoned and a black tie draped around my neck, I wore black pressed denim jeans and black boots with a silver buckle. It was clothing I was able to move in and still look fashionable in.

"Explain to me one more time, Donovan. What is the purpose of this little...coalition of yours?" Basil asked with an almost bored expression.

Donovan ignored his rudeness and replied, "The coalition is a mere caution in the event the humans break the Prevention Law."

Basil raised an eyebrow and said, "You mean Walker's Law, the law that prevents wereanimals from being hunted and killed on sight and deemed monsters?"

"In the recent months the wereanimals' reputation has been muddied, and the Law is slowly breaking day by day. It cannot protect us for much longer," Donovan explained.

"And you believe that the tigers would lose to mere humans in the event they do...turn on us?" Basil asked. He frowned now. Had Donovan pissed him off? I think so.

"It is not a question on your groups strength, Basil. It is a question of what the humans will do when that law shatters and we are no longer protected," he replied.

"I believe the tigers can handle anything that is presented before us, and out of all the things that could harm us, the humans are not even considered a threat." Basil steepled his fingers and grinned.

"And what about the other animal groups?" I asked.

Basil considered me for a moment and then asked, "Your Eben Black, right?"

I nodded.

"Your the wolf that has bound himself to four alphas? With a female wolf inside you?" he added with a curious smirk.

"You did good research," Donovan said.

"I didn't have to look into anything, most of your secrets are now public knowledge as far as wereanimals are concerned. You also helped put a stop to the wereanimal attacks a while back?" Basil asked.

I nodded. "The one responsible has been taken care of. The council saw to that."

"The council saw to nothing, it is also public knowledge that the council has abandoned LA as far as its wereanimals are concerned, not that I'm too bothered. I never really bothered with them before."

"So you heard about the council?" Donovan asked.

"I heard there was a confrontation and the original leader was killed, but replaced in no time," he explained, "Now how do you plan on beating something that can regenerate if needed?"

"We don't intend on fighting anyone, unless the fight is brought to our doors."

"Your adopting the playground rule of "wait for the other guy to hit first so YOU don't get in trouble" rule?" Basil grinned.

"Its worked out so far."

"So far being the fragile statement. One day someone will smash your heads in before you can even blink. A poor attitude toward a possible war breaking out, Donovan."

"And if we were more...aggressive?" I asked.

"Then the tigers might join, but at the moment you are all too weak, too concerned about the public's view of you. If the law is about to shatter, then why try to impress the humans as innocent animals?" Basil asked.

"You'd rather we act like the monsters they'd eventually recognise us as?" Donovan demanded. Basil shrugged. "And unless we're more aggressive there's no chance you'll join us?" Donovan added.

Basil stood up and offered a hand out to Donovan. "I do apologise for having wasted your time, but I'd be placing my soldiers in the hands of innocent animals, not ferocious beasts. I won't do that to them."

Donovan stood and I followed suit. Donovan reached out and grabbed Basil's wrist, Basil gripped Donovan's and the two exchanged a long look. The tension level raised about neck-level and for a moment I thought they'd fight.

"Thank you for your time," Donovan eventually said, and he released Basil's arm. Basil grinned wider and nodded.

Donovan and I walked out and into the darkened hallway beyond. The door closed behind us and the hushed sounds of music and bassline filled the corridor. Kane was standing a little farther down the corridor. He pushed off the wall and padded up toward us. Sheathed sword at his waist. Kane stood at six foot two and was slender, toned and agile like me. Deep brown eyes watched the pair of us as he joined us. His fur the colour of the night's darkened skies with strands of white and silver streaked through. A sleak, pale scar ran down over one eye. He wore non-descript black. A pair of black trousers with a series of silver blades strapped here and there. A black fitted tee with his long sleeves rolled back to his forearms. He watched us both and seemed to understand without even needing to know.

"Basil doesn't wanna know about the coalition then?" he asked with a deep frown.

Donovan shook his head and I explained, "He believes our gentle nature is not befitting the warriors his tigers have become."

Kane sighed and said, "Sounds like he was an arrogant bastard."

"Something like that," I replied.

"So now what do we do?" Kane asked, "Come back another time?"

"No. There's no point. Basil has made up his mind, and has deluded himself into believing his tigers can handle themselves. We'll head back to the penthouse and let the others know." Donovan sounded disappointed.

I touched a hand to his and smiled up at him. "You did your best, Donovan. Don't let his arrogance bring you down."

Kane nodded and leaned on his alpha's shoulder with a grin, "Besides would you really want that arrogant twat hanging around the penthouse?"

Donovan smiled at the two of us and said, "Thanks, but I was responsible for bringing Basil back."

"And everyone knew what kind of leader Basil was before you came here. Everyone's prepared for this. It would be more surprising if you walked in with Basil at your side," I assured him.

"No harm, no foul," Kane added.

"So we're going home then?" I asked with a smile.

"Your forgetting something. You arranged to meet up with Snow later," Kane replied.

"Oh yeah," I replied with a smile. Snow was a weretiger we'd somehow adopted as our own when he'd turned feral, but my touch seemed to have awakened him to his senses. He had no recollection of who he was except for an awfully poetic name. He was a white tiger and had no knowledge of where he'd come from. We'd looked for a local white weretiger group but the nearest one was in Alaska strangely enough. Donovan had asked Snow if he wanted him to contact the Alaskan weretigers, but Snow had decided against it and had stayed behind with us. He'd been my lover and long-term boyfriend since then. He was the first alpha I'd bound myself to and it seemed his latest desire was to see movies. I could sympathise I suppose. Wereanimals tended to avoid the public even though we had been legalised, but Snow had a thing for movies and wanted to experience them with me. I'd agreed to meet him as soon as this meeting was done with, hense the clothes.

"Your meeting him downtown right?" Donovan asked.

"He's started taking up boxing and has found a man who'll train him up proper," I explained.

"Is he going to go into professional boxing?" Kane asked with an impressed look.

"It all depends on whether the Regional Fighting Assosciation allows wereanimals in. Its not about discrimination, its just we have tons more stamina and a higher healing factor than humans. Its like cheating," I added.

"Either way, its good he's getting out and about on his own." Donovan smiled and said, "He's been having nightmares though. I'm glad this is making him happy."

"Bishop reckons its because his memories are slowly coming back, all the bad and all the good are effecting his dreams," I explained, "He's fine if there's someone there, but when he sleeps alone he wakes up in cold sweats."

"Wow, so Snow could regain his memories?" Kane asked.

"I know," I took a deep breath and it came out rattled. We'd known that when Snow got his memories back, it may not play out for the best. He may have been straight before meeting me. There was a serious danger he'd be a totally different person than what he'd been the months leading up to this. So far the only change had been the nightmares, apart from that he was the same gentle Snow as he was beforehand. "Either way, I'm gonna shoot off then. The cinema isn't far from here. I'll walk," I explained. I leaned in and kissed them both goodbye and then headed off. It was nearly half eight. We were catching a late night movie so we could avoid big crowds of humans but there was always a chance tonight would go hectic. Either way we could handle ourselves, no problem.

I found Snow standing outside the cinema house. It didn't cease to amaze me how beautiful he was. Standing at six foot six, his fur was a mesh of striped white and black. Pale blue eyes, more beautiful than winter skies gazed at me as I walked up to him. I had donned a leather jacket when I'd left Domination. Snow was dressed in a white vest stretched thin across his muscular bulk. He had always been a powerhouse, but the boxing routine had bulked his form even more. Most of his clothes split now with the slightest movement. He'd donned a pair of dark blue tracksuit bottoms and white running trainers. Even in excercise gear he looked so much more attractive than me. He had a gym bag swung over one shoulder and smiled wide and pleasant as I stepped up in front of him. He curled one large hand around my waist and leaned down touching his lips to mine. His eyes held lust, warmth and love all blended into that beautiful cerulean blue.

"How did the meeting go?" he asked in a low, deep voice.

"Looks like Basil wants nothing to do with us," I explained.

"We all knew what he was like from the get go anyhow, I mean Nico would've been awkward to deal with, but then came along Basil and the whole plan had to be changed," Snow replied.

I huddled against the towering muscled form that was my lover and sighed. "Donovan's down about the whole situation."

Snow smiled, a hint of sadness there on his lips. "Donovan's heart is on his sleeve, and he's bound to feel that he's let everyone down, but like I said, we all knew how difficult things would be."

"Ah well, there's not much more we can do now except wait and see what happens," I replied.

"What does happen now?"

"Aleksander has mentioned that a couple of small animal groups have moved into town after hearing about Walker's Law breaking down," I replied, "He wants to recruit them."

"What kind of animal groups?" Snow asked.

"Aleksander believes one is a panther tribe, and some white lions from London have also moved into the area."

"Sounds like they moved here to see the coalition in action," he added.

"I suppose so," I replied.

"Did you not demonstrate your unique abilities for Basil?" Snow asked suddenly, "perhaps that would make Basil realise the coalition's potential."

"Donovan doesn't want me to transform unless its an absolute emergency," I explained, "Its still an unstable power and he doesn't trust it one hundred percent yet."

"Is he referring to the white strands?" Snow asked as he cradled my cheek in his large hand and trailed a thumb through the fur. I nodded. "Whites not such a bad fur colour is it?" he grinned.

"Not on you," I replied with a smile. He leaned down and we kissed again. When the kiss was broken I said, "Shall we get our tickets? We're attracting a lot of attention."

Attention was one word for it. What little humans had turned up to see a movie had been witness to a gay wereanimal relationship. I blushed and huddled against Snow as we walked in.
