#133 of Pokémon: Darkest Taboo

PART: ONE HUNDRED & THIRTY.

L ucy watched in both awe and regret as both her human along with her mentor worked in perfect unison, Jack would bark out a single word yet Blaze would already have anticipated what was required of her. The lucario wondered if the verbal component of their team work was even needed, she could not help but contemplate if doing so was merely just for show, to entertain those watching, she still had so much to learn.

"It jus' be an oversized fletchling, mud shot it already!"

The concerningly thing female had bellowed but the blaziken was putting on a show as she dodged each attempt, the flames that burned fiercely along her forearms and wrists left trails through the air as Blaze blurred from one spot to another. It was a glorious spectacle to behold.

"You got this blaze!"

Jack called out; his words caused Blaze to bristle out her chest feathers proudly as she avoided another vile goblet mucky purple sludge with an overly dramatic roll across the floor. Coming back up onto her talon like feet she gestured for the swalot to try again.

"END THIS, SHADOW BALL!"

The gym member bellowed, as if on cue shadows from nearby began to stretch out towards the pokémon, growing thinner the more they reached out until at last touching its own shadow. Gathering more'n'more until becoming a thick inky gelatinous substance that oozed upwards towards what passed as the swalot's hands, the solidified shadow writhed and writhed as it took on a spherical shape, looking up at the blaziken it grinned twistedly at her as it launched itself towards her. Blaze had to admit it was an impressive move if a bit slow on the startup, if it hit her, she was sure it would do some considerable damage but that was a big 'IF'.

"Bla...Zi...Ken...Ken...Blaziken...Blazi...Ken..Zi!"

[Nice try, but you'll need to do better than that!]

Blaze chuckled dropping down in to a low crouch, her taunt rear touching the ground as she did so, the attack went sailing over her head as it carried on along its relentless path. Pushing off from the ground the fire chicken sored into the air, sailing swiftly towards her opponent when a sickening emptiness hit her hard in the gut as the crowd went eerily silent.

"BLAZI!"

[JACK!]

Her words escaped her beak just as the realisation struck her, twisting her body in midair she shut down her attack as she hit the ground on all four talons, her rear lifting as she took up a sprinter's stance. Her feet digging into the ground she launched herself in a head long sprint, staying low so as to give as little wind resistance as possible. The entire motion from start to end was a blur of motion, yet even then she felt a sense of distress fill her as the solidified sphere of shadow energy sped its way towards Jack. Everything was moving in such slow motion that she could see it all unfolding in front of her avian eyes, Blaze redoubled her efforts moving faster than even her powerful legs should have permitted, the tips of her talon tipped fingers barely caressing the back of the shadowy mass of darkness, her hands desperately trying in vain to stop it. She could see Lucy attempting to intercede herself between Jack and the attack but it was clear she too would be too late; the destructive sphere had reached him.

"BLAAAAAAAAAAAZI!"

[JAAAAAAAAAAAACK!]

She screeched, her head long charge dawdling into a few staggered steps before collapsing to her knees, her eyes wide in horror expecting to see him to be thrown flying, in his weaken condition she could only imagine the worse. It took but seconds for it to dawn upon her, he was still standing there untouched, while behind him a gardevoir could be seen; its hand out stretched as a psychedelic light held the attack in place just a breaths distance from the Jack's body. Her out stretched hand suddenly clenched closed into a fist, the shadow ball shattered like glass into so many fragments as though reality itself had cracked, each piece would then dissipate in to nothingness. Then as though the gardevoir had never actually been there, it was gone as though they had never existed in the first place, A sense of confusion replaced her terror leading into relief as she staggered to her claw like feet, in blink of the eye she was wrapping her arms around him, holding him close to her tears rolling down her eyes, pulling herself as close to her beloved trainer as possible as Lucy put her arms around Jack as well.

"Swalot...Swal...Swalot...Lot...Swa...Lo...Swalot...Swalot"

[Well shit that was close, hadn't meant that to do that, my bad]

The sawlot noted rubbing the back of his head with a goof grin about his face as if to trying to play down the incident, the muscles along Blaze's back tightened as the tensed. Her talon like hands retained their gentle loving grip against the back of Jacks head and neck, her powerful beak nestled tightened as she tried to block out the damned swalots voice.

"Swallot...Swallot...Swa...Lot...Ot..Swalot...Swal...Lo...Lot...Swalot?"

[You want to keep going, I mean, seeing as your trainers unharmed and all?]

The poison type continued to speak nonchalantly, Blaze wanted him to show some remorse or just shut up for a moment but he kept on talking he just would not stop.

"Are you all okay?"

Jack asked softly, his mind snaping back to reality, the shadow ball having come flying at him had been all to overwhelming for his mind to truly comprehend. Moving his arms, he gently eased them around both Blaze and Lucy, returning their embrace with one of his own. His voice warm while his tone soft, turn her head slightly she preened his hair for a few seconds until at last replying in an equally as tender voice. Pulling herself free, Blaze wiped the tears with what passed as palms for her hands, a soft expression about her normally fierce features as she looked in to her much lover trainers' eyes. Lucy though could smell it clearly, she made to step forwards, wanting to try to say something anything, but closed her muzzle instead as she saw her teammates' fists clench so tightly that the avians own blood was drawn. Blaze a nod of appreciation to the lucario before turning around to face the sawlot, her eyes hardening as she slowly took a few steps towards the amorphous blob of poisonous sludge, flames licked around the corners of her beak. She stopped mid step as a loud voice called out over the gym's internal speaker array.

"DUE TO EXTERNAL INTERFERENCE, THE CHALLENGER IS DISQUALIFIED!"

The match official bellowed, the silent crowd still in shock by what had just transpired began murmuring with the occasional call to let Jack have another match, Jack just smiled as he reached out to Blaze slipping his fingers around her waist and whispering to her.

"Let go back to the hotel"

Came Jack's soothing voice, Lucy was trembling by now she had been on the verge of another seizer but his voice, his scent his touch against her kept it at bay for that she was eternally grateful but also filled with overwhelming anxiety. Her eyes closed as she felt his other arm bring her face in close to his midriff, it helped her banish old memories back into the darkness.

"Blaziken...Zi...Ken...Blaziken...Bla...Zi...Ken"

[Very well, I guess it wasn't an entire waste]

Blaze sighed turning around to face him before shaking her head slowly as she bent down to retrieve his walking stick, by the time the blaziken retrieved her dear humans walking aid Bunny and Oni could heading down form the bleachers to meet up with them.

"Indeed, experience is as valuable as any prize"

Hearing his words Lucy's tail began to wag slightly as she breathed in his scent as she started to calm down as with Blaze's assistance an exhausted Jack turned around to take his leave. A couple of officials went to grab for his shoulder but stopped as the blaziken stepped in the way flashing them a dangerous glare that would broker no interference from them.

"Bla...Zi...Ken...Blaziken...Zi...ken"

[You look one of Bunny's conquests]

Blaze clucked, she still felt pent up and ready to cut loose on some one or something. For now, though getting Jack back to the hotel suite to rest was more important, she did feel frustrated that the blasted swalot was still in one piece, offering up a silent pray to Arceus; she hoped she would get a chance carve the damned bastard up.
