Hypnovember 2023 Day 15: Objectification

The American Dragon had heard reports of several dragons going missing recently. In his youth, Jake had been a little too lax at times when magic creatures went missing, but as he'd grown into an adult he now took his job far more seriously. Especially when it came down to his fellow dragons going missing, he'd heard rumor that they'd been spotted downtown near a special auction house home to several of the city's mage population.

Jake didn't really enjoy being near the mages as they all had strange ideas about dragons, constantly trying to take their scales or clip other pieces off of them. The American Dragon was not just a dragon for them to use for their own means, he and all of his kind were sentient beings who needed respect. So he went to the auction house with a healthy amount of caution, his eyes scouring every corner for some strange mage to hop out at him.

Being a fully grown dragon now though, Jake wasn't about to be easily defeated, but that didn't mean it didn't pay to be especially careful. The interior of the auction house was filled with vases, each of them bearing intricate dragon designs, some of which caught Jake's own eye. "Mmm... I wonder if these magic dudes will miss a vase or two, mom might love one of these..." Of course he wouldn't stoop to that level, after all, it was his job to protect not to steal from those he was supposed to save. Still, he did find a lovely vase that reminded him of an old friend in coloration... in fact, that was one of the dragons who had gone missing.

Staring at the vase, Jake got a bad feeling as he saw that the vase bore a striking resemblance to his friend. "What... in the world...?" he growled, and then his head jerked to the side as he heard something in the back. Walking away from the series of vases, Jake noted in his head that he would have to do some more digging into that once he figured out what was really going on here.

In the back, there was a strange sound... it seemed to hum and sing, something that Jake found remarkably appealing. The red dragon's eyes fluttered a bit as he opened a door in the back, revealing a vase sitting in the middle of the room, conspicuous as it sat upon a lone pedestal. "That's not suspicious at all," Jake murmured, but his words didn't have their normal barb to them.

The vase had the image of a rather intimidating looking angry dragon on the side of it, a savage expression that seemed to stare at Jake himself. It had the appearance of scales marked upon its surface, and the top of the vase seemed to be glowing with an ethereal red glow. "Definitely magic, and very creepy," the dragon growled, but still his feet carried him forward. The closer Jake got to the vase, the stronger the sound got, and the less he felt control of his body.

Compared to the dragon, the vase was such a small thing, its top glowing a brighter red by the moment while the American Dragon grew near. "I don't think this is a good idea," he said, feeling compelled to lean in closer.

There was a draw on the dragon, the slightest feeling of him being drawn in by a magical force, Jake should have known better. The dragon's eyes were now glowing a light red color as well, his head drawing closer, that sound so strong now. He didn't have any change as the vase... or rather the Dragon Capture Jar got a hold of him. One moment the American Dragon was peering down into the depths of the object, and the next he was drawn into it in a flash of red light.

The interior of the vase was huge, vast, the sound of dragons roaring off in the distance echoed around Jake. "W... what's going on?" he whimpered, floating in the magical space, feeling strange as the magic surrounded him.

There were no words, but instead a magical intent from the vase, it spoke to him in his head. This was an object made to capture dragons, to rob their threat from the world. That didn't seem good to the dragon, he tried desperately to fly out from his prison, but he couldn't manage to do anything here in the strange depths of the object. He could feel the magic settling around him, starting to settle upon his scales, pushing him inwards.

"Get off of me, this isn't right! I'm the protector of New York, I am THE American Dragon!" Jake roared, feeling his body start to morph under the magic of the jar.

The Jar seemed to buzz with pleasure at this admission, something that Jake didn't really like. It then explained to him that he would continue to be a guardian of New York City, but instead he would aid in ridding the city of dragons. "No! I'm a dragon, why would I want to get rid of other dragons?!" Jake yelled, feeling his body changing shape, the draconic body growing smaller, harder, his scales smoothing out into a bright red porcelain.

Dragons were a threat, they are unwieldy beasts that cause pain and harm to those around them. So the Dragon Capture Jar made dragons into Jars like itself, made them into useful tools, they would rid the world of all dragonkind. Jake would make for a beautiful Jar, one that would help turn more dragons into Jars. "No... I don't want to... I..." Jake's mind was being warped, he suddenly could see what the Jar meant. Dragons broke things, and vases were so delicate, if he was a vase... he needed to get rid of dragons.

Moment by moment, the dragon grew smaller, became more elegant in design, his body being turned into a vase, his tail curling up into an attractive handle for the new Jar. Jake's face soon took up the side of the new Jar, his draconic visage staring out with an intimidating visage. The new Jar settled upon the ground with a delicate click, its surface gleaming with pristine brilliance. It would only be a few hours before the mages came back to find a new Dragon Capture Jar, one resembling the American Dragon himself!

"Wonderful! Soon the city will be rid of all of those pesky dragons, and then we mages can rule the city!" The mage laughed as he set the new Jar on a pedestal of its own, its own song joining that of its fellow Jars. It couldn't wait to turn more dangerous dragons into Jars, one day no dragons would remain, and they would all be beautiful Vases to be displayed.
