Confessions- Part 3

, , , , , , , ,

The third and final (?) part of my own fursona's in-universe bisexual coming out story. Wrote this all a while ago and let it sit there for ages. I swear I meant to post this all at once, I just got busy with life and stuff.

Working on a Part 4/Epilogue/whatever you want to call it, but this is where the pre-written stuff ends, so that's probably a ways down the road. This is the biggest part of the three; the one that gives that weighty title its meaning. As always, I hope you enjoy.

(And as per usual, the ? in the middle of words are supposed to be A's with a flat accent mark over them; FA doesn't do special characters.)

"Hey, Tirra said you wanted to talk." Rayne lay flat across the bed. "So did you want to talk... or talk?"

He smirked and Shade knew he was hoping for a chat about any recent dirty deeds or one night stands. Shade cleared his throat uncomfortably and Rayne's smirk faded as he saw Shade's expression. He sat up, ears twitching attentively.

"Rayne, listen, I, uh... I've been meaning to say something. The trouble is, I'm not sure how to say it.

"I... Look, ever since the, uh..." He sighed, hanging his head. "Gods, I don't even know what I'm saying."

"Hey," Rayne said, "whatever this is, you can tell me."

Shade took a deep breath. It came out trembling.

"I think I'm gay." he said finally. Rayne looked at him, shocked.

Shit, Shade thought, how did I fuck that up?

In his nervousness, his fried brain had picked the wrong word at exactly the wrong time. He immediately tried to course correct.

"I-I mean, I'm... bi. I do like the ladies." Rayne offered a slight smile through his bewilderment. "But... ever since yesterday... it's like I'm seeing you differently."

"Are you saying... what I think you're saying?" Rayne asked.

"That depends on what you think I'm saying..." Shade said quietly.

"You're saying we're more than friends..." Rayne breathed.

"I've just never felt this way about... about a guy before," Shade stammered.

"You've been in love before though, haven't you?"

Shade nodded.

"A few times. That's how I know what this is. It's more than just your body, Rayne. It's more than just your eyes... It's you. You're a good guy." Rayne met his eyes, remembering the words as the same ones he'd said to Shade when they first met.

"If it were anyone else, I wouldn't even consider this, but with you..." Shade sighed.

"Shade..." Rayne said. "This isn't going to work."

Shade's heart plummeted.

"I'm a cop. You're a smuggler."

"Shit," Shade groaned. "Why didn't I-- Gods, I'm an idiot."

Rayne put a paw on his shoulder.

"I'm sorry. I really am."

Shade put his head in his hands.

"It's fine," he sighed. "You're right. It wouldn't have worked out between us."

Rayne patted his shoulder as he stood.

"You'll be alright. You've been through worse."

"Yeah," Shade sighed, pushing of the bed to stand as well. "Hey, Rayne?"

The cop stopped near the doorway.

"Yeah?"

"Just tell me one thing: How do you feel? About me? Are we really just friends? I know it's not going to work, but I just need to know the truth."

"You're a good guy, Shade," he said, "and a damn good friend."

The door slid open and he walked out. Shade leaned his head against the wall and closed his eyes.

Only a brief moment later, the door opened again. Shade looked up in time for Rayne to grab his shoulders and kiss him. Hard. At first he froze, but then he realized it was happening, and he allowed Rayne to push him up against the wall.

He felt cold when Rayne finally pulled away.

"Wh-why'd you stop?" he breathed. Rayne kissed him again, deeper this time, before turning and pushing him onto the bed. He landed on his back and Rayne landed on him, breaking the kiss for a moment as they fell.

"What happened to just being friends?" Shade gasped.

"Fuck that." Rayne panted. His smirk had never been more handsome.
