A Mutants Life Part 1: Home for the Homeless

A huge lumbering form could be seen on the horizon, his naked green body gleaming with a layer of sweat as he crossed the desert.  A smaller muscled jackrabbit was sitting on his shoulder, wearing a pair of coveralls with the sleeves torn, slits cut down the thighs to allow his thick legs to push through better.  The two were on a mission to find themselves a home that was safe for them.

It had been a few months since the battle with the Ultra Mutant.  NCR troops eventually came to check on the disturbance, finding a group of Fiends having been slaughtered and the corpse of an enormous green human, his body battered and crushed, only hearing whispers that it was the doing of another mutant, but the drug fueled ramblings of a drifter was not enough information for them take it seriously.

Rick and Lug tried their best to steer clear of populated areas, Rick's huge size of twelve feet and unclothed form would certainly bring everyone into a frenzy and the last thing they needed was a mutant hunt as they tried to find a home.  After leaving Jacobstown, a few different homes were tried, but not stuck.  One was a regular abandoned house, but after Rick stepped through the floor boards, tripping out through one of the walls, it didn't seem good to keep him somewhere the average person would use.  The next one was a warehouse that seemed to work quite well, but it turned out the sewers below were infested with ghouls.  Not something they wanted to fight with for another few weeks till they were hopefully all exterminated.

After a week of traveling, moving out past the mojave wasteland that they had known, they were working their way down a winding canyone road.  The entrance of the road had been blocked by a rockslide, but an old map they had found at a temporary bedroom made it seem there to be a warehouse and factory back here.  The idea being that it was a motorcycle factory and was off the beaten path had them hoping that it would be a good place to keep Lug active and big enough to house one oversized coyote.

Their dreams were cut short when they came to the top of the road as it angled down into an enclosed area.  Cliffs surrounded the place, making it a heavily fortified place, but to their dismay, it looks some people were moving around the area.  The two hid behind a rock pile, Lug pulling out the rifle Marcus let him keep, using the scope to see who they were.  It looked like they had just got here recently, people working on wood and barbed wire fencing to close off the front entrance.  Suddenly a group of chained together people and anthros were shuffled into the open doorway of the garage.

"Hrrmmf...Slavers.  I see three or four slaves, maybe a dozen guys.  I think they just got here, which is why there aren't too many." Lug holstered the scope and looked back to his huge companion.

"Grr...I hate Slavers.  Bunch of bastards.  Saw them beat some kids to death cause they had tried to run away from the group into the desert.  I think this place is perfect for us, but we'll have to clear out these monsters.  Ready for some action, Big Lug?" He stood up, cracking his knuckles as he smiled down at the muscled jackrabbit. "Always with you, Ricky." Lugnut smirked, pulling out a powerful revolver and his bandolier.

The two snuck down the side of the canyon, using the rocks to keep them mostly hidden, though it was harder for Rick with his enormous size.  Finally they were near the building when Rick rushed forward, howling loudly, the howl echoing against the cliff walls, making it sound more menacing.  Before the guards outside could react, they were trampled by the bulk of the green coyote.  Another stepped back in fear, tripping over a pile of barbed wire, slipping into it and becoming trapped, slicing himself open as the fear overwhelmed him, forcing himself to try and run away, but ended up killing himself in the process from blood loss.  Three more guys came out through the garage, two picked off by the precise shots from Lug's revolver, downed quickly as the other was grabbed.  Rick pulled his arm back, the human slaver gasping as he saw the muscles bicep swell larger and larger, the coyote chucking the 180 pound man against the highest part of the warehouse, smashing heavily against the wall, landing on his neck as he fell down.

Lug was the first to push in, taking two shots to the chest from a shotgun, grunting as he popped the guy in the face with his revolver, taking down another on the walkway above.  The slaves were chained to a beam in the back, four more guys coming out to fight, firing wildly.  Rick hurried into the garage, stomping heavily as it shooked the whole area, his fist slamming into the chest of one unlucky guard.  He flew backwards, nearly wrapping around the beam the slaves were tied to, slumping to the floor with a busted spine.  The last surviving Slavers did their best to unload into the giant green target, but Lug downed them quickly, putting an end to the fight.

Lugnut rubbed at the holes in his chest, minor wounds for him as he dug out the bullets, the bleeding coming to a stop as the holes would close by nightfall.  Rick was stomping over to the frightened group of slaves, the two humans begging for their lifes as Rick snapped the chain holding them their, freeing them. "It's alright folks, your safe." Rick smiled down at them to try and put them at ease.

It didn't work as the two humans, hands still cuffed, ran for it, crying out in fear as they made for the road.  Rick didn't try to stop them, having seen it before, but he looked to the two who stayed.  One was a smaller grey horse, no distinguishable breed. He was slender with a slight muscle tone, most likely from hard work, but his long hair and shapely hips gave a feminine look to him as his overalls were a size to small and hugged his legs and rump well.  The other was a rather large black bull.  Both horns had been cut in half, most likely something the Slavers did to damage his spirit, wearing just a pair of torn shorts.  He had build that was actually much like Lug's, though had a thicker upper body with a bulging muscled gut. They stood there, arms in front, still cuffed, as they looked in awe at their giant savior.

"Who...What are you?" The feline asked, visibily shaking with fright.  Snorting out, the bull tried to act like he had nothing to fear, but his fists were clenched tight.

"I'm Rick.  That's Lugnut over there with the gun.  We were looking for this place when we stumbled across you guys.  Please don't fear us.  We came down here to free you guys." Rick stepped back, sitting down a piece of equipment, leaning over more and eyed them both. "Whats your names?"

"I'm Felicia...err...I mean...Felix...My last owner liked to...Dress me up.  Just call me Felix." Felix looking abit embarassed turned away, hiding his face as his hands fidgeted against the restraints.

"Caine." The bull seemed to relax abit with the conversation, but was clearly still on edge.

"Found 'em!" Lugnut called out, coming over with a set of keys, giving a warm smile as he came over to Felix, unlocking the restraints, and then over to Caine who gave him a stern look, but Lug had the same amount of height, though abit less muscle, releasing Caine who rubbed his wrists that were marked with the constant abuse of trying to pull off the handcuffs.

"What are you two? You like kinda like a wolf or coyote and you seem to be a rabbit, but you look more like Super Mutants." Caine snorted as he leaned up against the beam, trying to play the big guy like he usually could, but with Rick being taller than him sitting, it wasn't working.

The two mutants looked at each other before Lug spoked up.

"We are mutants, but we aren't like Super Mutants at all.  We don't eat people, we don't kill just anyone and we are just looking for a home, which we hope to make of this place.  It seems very protected and I think we can make it even better with this stuff I'm seeing around." Lug looked around, nodding approvingly before coming to look at the two.

"Can...Can I...May I stay here with you? I don't have anywhere else to go..." Felix was almost in tears, turning to the two, wiping his eyes as his hooves clopped on the metal floor.

"Umm...Yeah I would like to stay too.  I've been in and out of Slaver camps and owners for years now and...It would seem safe with you two here." Caine kept a stern stance, hiding his emotions for now.

"Well this place seems big enough for all of us, so I don't think it'll be a problem.  You'll have to help us clear out this place of course, but as long as you do your part and want to make this a home, then I think you two can call this home also.

Both Felix and Caine gave big smiles, Rick and Lug smiling back as they looked around the large structure.  Plans forming on how to make this old building a home for them all.
