Our Family's Secret Prologue (formally The Cove on another account)

, ,

I think my skills have improved.

I walk swiftly through the small town. It's dark. About midnight. The witching hour, as kids call it. I chuckle to myself with that thought. It made sense. That's when us witches and warlocks were out.. But of course. No one knew we existed.

The bricks on Gerry's Spells and Potions shop are glowing. So was every building. The charm of being in a city of magic. You don't need streetlights.

I'm tempted to enter the treat shop but I don't have time. I had to meet Sally.

I exhale and reluctantly move to walk to our meeting spot in Lux's Familiars. But of course I spot her outside the Coffee Shop a few stores from me. She knew I would be late. She's a seer after all, I should have predicted this.

She had elegant blonde hair in a tight bun at the top of her head. No static or untamed hair for her. She got that from mum. Unlike me and my curly mess of black hair.

Sally also got mum's elegant blue eyes. I had gotten dad's vibrant and very recognizable emerald green eyes. She wears her normal dress, a laced top with a flowing bottom, a baby blue to match her eyes. She had enchanted this dress to have the bottom have little floating lights laced within its flowing material.

I sigh and slip into the plush red velvet chair. Sally sips her tea as she looks at me from behind the cup. That look. Always with that look.

"Sally." I grumble. She looks back into the cup and sets it down. It was almost empty. She was waiting. "...why are you calling me here so late? I have to get back..." I add quickly. A small smile appears on her face. A smug one at that.

"Don't worry, Brother. I'll keep it short. But this is important." Sally muses. My leg shakes, moving up and down in sync with my nerves.

"At risk of repeating myself, why am I here?" I repeat, a little annoyed. She chuckles and stirs the tea with her spoon.

"...we need to discuss Theo's kid...well...your kid now." Sally muses and I rub the bridge of my nose.

"What's your point, Sally?" I ask and my eyebrow twitches. Her smile fades and she becomes more serious.

"...it's almost their 16th birthday... Their powers are supposed to show soon..." She speaks and I shake my head.

"There's been no evidence of them being a witch..." I explain with a sigh.

My new child...My brothers...a shame what happened to him... My mind flashes with the memories of him.

Shouting. Loud shouting. A boom and there's a cloud of dust.

"Theo! Run!" I shouted and I bolted away from the steel base and my feet crunched on the broken shield of magic. I heard running and then a swift fist was thrown into my jaw.

I fell to the ground and a foot was clocked into my side. I coughed and blood spilled out of my mouth. There was a cackle of laughter. My eyes drew to the sound but all there was was dust.

I forced my eyes to glow even with my magic so weak. There was a tall strong male figure standing above me. His eyes glowed crimson through the clouds.

"Weak..." The figure hissed with venom. My eyes narrow at the sight of his head...horns. He had horns. He wasn't human but rather a demon. A spiked tail swished behind him and I summoned my energy.

The other side was fighting with demons...Dark forces. They were hopeless to save. I had to tell Theo.

I squeezed my eyes shut and my fist heated with magic. The electric feeling rushed through my body and I heard the cackling again.

My fist opened and a star of magic shot towards him. The demon caught. CAUGHT. The PURE and HOLY magic and...crushed it. He wasn't some simple Imp. This...this was who I thought it was.

"...Samael..." I whispered and his eyes glowed brighter.

"That bird brain is dead. I. Am. LUCIFER!" He booms and his laugh...that laugh...it was bone chilling.

I was doomed. I had no hope. But a thought crashed through my mind. "THEO!" I screamed and the laughing turned hysterical.

"Your brother won't help you now." The Fallen Angel cackles and holds up a head. A severed head. I couldn't see too well through the dust but...It looked so...so...similar to Theo's. Too...similar...

My heart drops and my throat burns. I turn my head and heave my empty stomach into the dust of the red sand.

A pointed boot was in my side and I heaved again. The figure cackles once again. "Weak. Weak. Little Warlock..." He said and then I lost consciousness.

I'm pulled from my memory by Sally's hand on mine. I take a shaky breath.

"....there was nothing you could do, Allen..." She whispers and I nod. My heart rate was high. "...he's in a better place...and besides...the other side lost. The man who killed him is dead." She reassures me but...she wasn't right.

I hadn't told anyone who had really killed Theodore. Not even my own sister... She thought it was some low level soldier. Not...the Fallen Angel.

"...yeah...Of course..." I mumble, mostly to myself. I still felt guilty for my brother's death. What sane person wouldn't...?

"...now...I wanted to bring you here for a tea leaf reading." Sally explains softly, still knowing I wasn't feeling exactly right in the mind at the moment. My eyes narrow just a tad.

"...you brought me here...for something some fake psychic could do for $15?" I question and she sighs.

"...just humour me... Okay? I've...come up with a new method to see someone's future through a reading. And I'm a Seer." Sally reminds me and I exhale.

"Fine. Make this quick though." I mumble and she nods. Sally hands me the tea cup and I close my eyes as my fingers curl around the cup. My hands buzz with magic and I transfer it to the cup, my new daughter in mind. A fox appears in the cup and then a Phoenix. Sally takes the cup from me as I open my eyes.

"She has a fox Anchor?" Sally asks curiously. I nod.

Sally stirs the tea and the rest of the tea evaporates. She closes her eyes and whispers a few words and the cup glows. She looks into the cup and her eyes glow blue.

"...the girl...a full witch. Her magic comes soon. Suspicious, suspicious... Danger in the water and close to death. Save her from the cove and live a life of love. Surprise a twin. A magical curse. Taken and hurt...he's still alive...the Devil will come." Sally says vaguely. She wasn't able to say everything that will happen or it wouldn't happen.

While she speaks, the leaves move to form my little girl. Venus. She reminded me of Theo so much... She was sceptical of me. Then...she gets trapped in the water... I would save her. Then she and I would bond. Then...a girl...the tea leaves became fuzzier. Fading. I couldn't see the full picture anymore. But one of Sally's words made my blood run cold.

"Devil."

Him. He had killed my brother. I'd face him again. That I knew without the pictures even. I gulp and a glass of soda is set in front of me. Fanta. Sally had known that I'd be dry in the mouth with this news. Though she didn't know the real reason why my mouth was dry and I had broken out in a cold sweat. She thought I was simply scared of Lucifer because well... He was the Devil. Ruler of Hell and the Fallen Angel. The one who betrayed God.

But. He had killed Theo. Cut his head off. And I wanted him to hurt. Like he made Theo hurt. Like he had made ME hurt! Like he made Venus hurt. She was so sad when he died...I understand why she doesn't like me...

I was going to be the Justice this family needed. I would defeat Lucifer. And I would make Venus proud.

I pick up the soda and sip it through the straw fiercely. Sally snickers.

"You look funny drinking that kids drink so seriously." She muses and I purse my lips. Okay. Maybe I shouldn't be so serious.
