Beneath the Obsidian Veil, Chapter 2 (part 2)

, , ,

Uh...I guess this is the second part? Enjoy!

Sage waves his hand, and a sudden white light shines, blinding me for a few seconds. When I regain vision, we end up in a white room that seems endless. I look at Sage, and he has also transformed into a younger man, at least in his twenties.

"This is where we will be training every day," Sage said. Everything about him changed. His voice, tone, and looks.

"What?" I look at Sage in disbelief, "You... turned younger?"

Sage laughs, "Oh Nolan... we Guardians do not age like Earthlings do. This is my true form."

I slowly nod, "I see..."

"Now, the first lesson of all, physical combat!" Sage said as he pulls out a knife from nowhere, "I'll try not to damage you badly, but do try to stay alive!"

I look puzzled until Sage points his sword at me, "Get ready!"

I start to panic; I didn't know what to do. So I just ran away as fast as I can. I look behind me to see Sage just standing there, smiling evilly. Then when I turn my head around, Sage appears in front of me. I turn around and run back at full speed. Then Sage appears in front of me again and swipes his sword at me. Then a sudden feeling of burning appears on my chest. Blood dribbles down my body, and Sage walks closer.

"Running is no use! Destroyers will outrun you! Again!" Sage shouts in my face and waves a hand, "Try another tactic!"

My wound heals, and I back up from Sage. I struggle to breathe and Sage dashes towards me, so I dodge his attack and punch him in his face.

"Good! But one punch is not enough!" Sage said and with a slash of his blade, I start to bleed again, "Again!"

Sage heals me again and walks away from me. I look at Sage, "I don't know how to fight, man!" I protested as Sage runs towards me again.

I try to dodge his attack like I did last time, but he quickly gets behind me and puts the blade in front of my throat. I take my other hand and grabs the knife. But Sage twists his wrist and slices the blade with the momentum. He cuts my hand and frees himself. Pain flows through me, and I fall to the ground.

"Good strategy. But not enough power! Again!" Sage said and heals me again, "Use your brain!"

I slowly stand up and sprint towards Sage this time. He is taken by surprise, and I finally take the sword from him. I point the sword at him and charge towards him with the knife out in front of me. The instant I'm about to cut through his head, Sage dodges down and punches my hand from below and pushes me away all in one swift motion. The knife falls beneath Sage's feet, and I get knocked back a far distance. Sage picks up the blade with a kick of his feet and grabs it mid-air.

"Great thinking!" Sage compliments, "Now try again!"

I feel really tired after a few rounds; I ask Sage if I can have a little rest. Sage shakes his head and charges towards me again. After a while, I gasp for breath and collapse on the floor.

"Get up! GET UP!" Sage yells and points his sword at me.

"Easy for you to say! I've been running this whole time, and you have a sword... how is that fair?!" I snarl.

Sage looks at me and approaches me, "You think fighting Destroyers will be a fair game? Hell no! They'll use any tricks to try to kill you. A sword is just a puny appetizer; they might even just easily kill you with magic! Now get up!"

I stay on the ground and don't move. Sage picks me up with magic and sets me on my feet. I look at him with hatred.

"Good! Turn that hatred into power!" Sage said.

I unsheathe my claws and swipe at Sage as I snarl at him, revealing my sharp fangs. Sage dodges my attacks at an incredible speed. I relocate him and slash out my claws at him again. This time, he flicks his sword and deflects my claws. Then he stabs me in the chest. Instant pain flows through me, and I step back a few times with the sword still in my chest. Sage runs towards me faster at an alarming speed, trying to retrieve his sword. I quickly pull it out and stab Sage in his chest. He falls back and falls to the ground on his butt. I stumble and fall to the ground too.

"That... that was very unexpected... good job..." Sage said painfully as he pulls the sword out of his chest, "How are you so calm? Doesn't it hurt?"

"It does. But watching you fall just kills the pain, I guess." I smiles weakly, "But yes... now it hurts a lot..."

Sage smiles and heals me and himself, "You did really well. You deserve a break."

I let out a sigh of relief and stay on the ground, "Damn Sage... You're a mean one..."

Sage chuckles, "You did a good job there... would you care for some tea?"

I sit up and look at Sage, "Tea? I... I don't really tea that often. But sure, why not?"

Sage smiles and stands up. He summons a small wooden table with two chairs.

"You may take a seat..." Sage said, and he sits down in one of the seats.

I slowly stand up and sit down in the seat directly across from Sage. Sage summons some pottery and other containers. He first sprinkles some tea leaves into a small clay kettle. Then, he pours boiling water into the kettle until it is full. I look at Sage and ask,

"Can I ask you a few questions?"

"Sure, what do you want to know?" Sage looks up.

"What do you Guardians do if you guys are bored?" I ask curiously.

"We can do anything we want! It's not like we don't have any technologies." Sage laughs.

"Oh, sounds fun... I thought you guys are still in the ancient times..." I said.

"Oh well... we Guardians get in touch with thousands of other species way before you guys appeared. So we might have more advanced technologies." Sage smiles.

I'm embarrassed. I thought that the Guardians were behind in technologies. Sage pours some tea into the clay cup in front of me.

"Go ahead, try some of the tea!" Sage smiles.

I bring the cup up to my muzzle. I let the scent fill my nostrils before I take a little sip.

"That's a little bitter..." I said and continue to taste the tea, "But I think I like it..."

"This is the best tea I can find on Earth!" Sage said and pours tea into his clay cup, "If I got it right, it comes from a country somewhere in the Asia continent..."

I take another sip from the cup and place the cup down on the table. The tea is bitter, but the aftertaste is very mellow.

"May I have some more?" I ask.

"Be my guest!" Sage said and sips a little tea.

I take the little kettle and pour myself some more tea. I drink half of it and set the cup down.

"Will there be more training today?" I ask.

"I think you've had enough for today. Do you wish to return to your home?" Sage asks.

"Yes..." I respond and finish my tea.

"When you go back, only ten seconds or so should have passed." Sage smiles, "And don't tell what happened here to anyone. Not even Sebastian."

"Ok... fine." I say, "Wait-"

Before I could say more, Sage puts his hand on my shoulder, and I'm engulfed in pitch-black darkness. A faint glow of red light appears below me, and suddenly, I feel like I'm dropping down, fast. The red light grows brighter as I fall, and below me, thousands of hands reach towards me. I try to yell for help, but no sound comes out. The moment the hands engulf me, I return back to where I was before I met Sage. My heart is racing from the falling and the creepy hands.

"Nolan?!" Sebastian yells.

"What?!" I yell back, my heart still beating fast.

"I thought I told you to come down and do the dishes?!?"

"I'm coming! Chill!"

I shut the door and run downstairs. Sebastian is lying on the sofa, not happy at all.

"I thought I called you to do dishes a minute ago?" Sebastian looks mad.

"I'm sorry! I was doing something..." I said and walk to the kitchen.

"Just hurry we gotta sleep early!" Sebastian calls, "By the way, don't forget to set an alarm for four tonight!"

I just bury my head and continue to do the dishes. There's just so many! Why is it always my turn when there's like... a mountain of dishes?!

"I'm gonna shower, are you done with the dishes?" Sebastian asked.

"Not yet, I'm almost done!" I said and hurriedly finish washing the dishes.

"Ok, you should go to sleep after this," Sebastian said, "If I'm not done, use the guest bathroom."

I return to the dishes and finish them before Sebastian could finish his shower. I didn't really want to use the guest bathroom, so I waited for Sebastian to come out. I went to my room, grabbed my towel and some clean clothes to wear, and then went down and back into Sebastian's room, sitting on the bed and waiting for him. I relaxed and began to rethink what happened with Sage and the Guardian Realm. The amount of information is driving me crazy. But the thought of becoming a powerful Guardian is already making me ultra excited.

Then, the bathroom door opened, and Sebastian walked out wearing nothing.

"Ay! At least wear something..." I said.

"What? It's not like you haven't seen me naked before," Sebastian said, "I thought I told you to use the guest bathroom?"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just didn't want to clean it again, too much work," I said, ready to go into the bathroom.

Sebastian stepped towards me and noogied me. I tried to break free, but he was too strong. Finally, he let me go and laughed.

"You're a jerk, you know that?" I said, grabbing my stuff and walking towards the bathroom.

"Wait I still need to use the blower." Sebastian said.

"Why haven't you done that already?" I sigh, "I'm tired, I just want to sleep bro..."

"Just let me use it real quick! It's not gonna take long!" Sebastian runs into the bathroom.

"You still haven't shed, it's gonna take FOREVER!" I said wearily.

"Or I can take another shower with you." Sebastian grins.

"Ew, gross. Hell no." I sigh, "Fine, go use the blower I'll wait..."

"Just go use the guest bathroom!" Sebastian said before closing the bathroom door again.

I lie down and sigh. The blower starts to make its lowly hum. I yawn and slowly begin to lose consciousness.
