Lore explaining magical energy in the animalands.

A long time ago, eight dragons came together and dedicated their lives to the study of magical energy. Their names are Poseidon, Helios, Zephyrus, Geb, Boreas, Ragnarok, Amatarasu, and Nyx. Each dragon holds mastery over one of the eight elements. Water, fire, wind, earth, ice, thunder, light, and darkness.

In order to use magic, they must concentrate their bodies to collect magical energy that permeates around them. The more magic they gather, the more powerful their magic spell becomes. After the caster releases energy to cast spells, the lingering energy becomes weak. If someone tries to use magic in an area with weak magical energy, it results in their magic spell going unstable. Not only does the spell fail to cast, but it also hurts the user. Upon discovering this, the eight dragons get together to figure out how to consistently keep the magic energy stable. Eventually, they come up with a solution; a purifying system.

First, Helios, Geb, and Boreas go on a pilgrimage to collect dozens of crystals mined in caverns and mountains in the East continent. Then, Poseidon, Ragnarok, and Amaterasu use their magic to shape the crystals into eight large crystals of different colors. Finally, Zephyrus and Nyx create eight spheres that function like a fan. Their purpose is to absorb used magical energy, purify it, and release it as reusable magical energy. The released magical energy is shot up high into the sky and spreads all over, easily carried thousands of miles in the area. Once test runs show the core crystals working perfectly, they put them inside each crystal. The outer Crystal serves as a protective shell to keep the core crystals safe.

Their next objective is to travel all over the East Continent and build shrines to hide the elemental crystals. With the help of other Anthros, they spent nearly two months building large shrines in remote locations so they could serve their purpose without any interference. Thanks to their efforts, the East Continent now has consistent stable magic all over the land, making their livelihood much more convenient. Just before they celebrate, they learn that the crystal's range still has its limits. The crystals only had enough range to stabilize the magic energy for China and Russia. The eight dragons were so distraught that they actually fell to their knees dramatically with various pained expressions.

Just as they wonder how they can continue developing more elemental crystals, one of the Dragon Gods, Iridiana, descends from the heavens to support their cause. Her role in the Animalands is to find the eight masters of the elements and grant them their godhood. She explains that if the eight dragons put their mortal lives behind and be reborn as spirits, they have the power to create clones of themselves so they can create more elemental crystals to support the multiple nations and regions all over the world. After discussing it, Poseidon and his friends unanimously offer their lives to Iridiana to be reborn as the elemental spirits. With a soft smile, Iridiana takes the eight dragons to the hidden city of Asylum.

Asylum is a large ancient city hidden from society. The Anthros constructed this city to honor their gods and give them a home to propagate their species. At the ancient altar where Dragons receive their godhood, Poseidon and his allies stand in a circle under an open sunroof. The light of the full moon shines down to give them a boost in magical energy. They put their hands together and recite a prayer to Iridiana.

"Under the light of the full moon, we beseech thee.

We give up our mortal forms and be reborn as one of you.

In the name of all our gods that once stood here, we swear to fulfill our roles and bring stability to the Animalands."

With their prayers heard, they float in the air while their bodies radiate a green aura. They hold each other's hands, smile at one another, and close their eyes. Their bodies slowly glow and scatter into particles of light. Only their souls remain. Iridiana guides their souls through a portal that takes them to an alternate realm, where the Dragon Gods live.

This ethereal realm is connected to the dreamscape, another realm that depicts the dreams of Anthros. Basically a Dragon God can use their realm to communicate with Anthros while they sleep. Iridiana had a different purpose here. She is creating new spiritual forms for the eight dragons by using the eight elements.

First is Poseidon; His form is now depicted as a Shark with sapphire dragon scales. He is given a gold trident and mastery over the element of water. Not to mention a fantastic white beard to complete the look.

Second is Helios; His form is now a large hound with long claws, ruby dragon scales, and a cape cloaked in fire.

Third is Zephyrus; He's become a large phoenix with emerald wings and dragon scales. Not only is he given mastery over wind but he can also use it to revitalize Anthros before their death.

Fourth is Geb; Turning into a large muscular golem shaped like a rhino, his gold dragon horns and stone body grants him immense physical strength as well as mastery over earth. He still attracts birds like his mortal form did.

Fifth is Amaterasu; Now a white dragon with the form of a wolf, her howls have the power to summon the sun and rays of light.

Sixth is Boreas, the master of ice. She is given the form of a unicorn with wings and a gem on her chest. She also has dragon scales on her body.

Seventh is Ragnarok. Her form is that of a gryphon with dragon wings. She holds mastery over electric magic and has the power to summon storms with her calls.

Finally Nyx, the master of dark magic. She is the exception to not having a dramatic change to her form. She is still a dragon, but her wings are folded in a way to look like she's wearing a cloak. Perhaps a gargoyle is the inspiration for her new form.

With that, the Elemental spirits are born. Using their new god powers, the spirits create clones of themselves and fly all over the Animalands to construct more elemental crystals. With her role fulfilled, Iridania proudly returns to her corner of the realm to watch over the Anthros. Ever since then, society continued where these eight dragons left off and studied magical energy. As time passed, they would discover new ways to utilize magic and pass the knowledge to each generation. This is how magical energy came to be in the Animalands.

That's the lesson for today. In the future, we will provide more in depth bios of the elemental spirits and their mortal forms.
