End of Days

Chapter 6

"Memories"

Authors Note: Well, this is it. The last chapter....just kidding. However, this is the last chapter that has my old material in it. After this you should notice a major difference in my writing (plot moves

faster, more descriptive, and in general better). Thanks again for reading :)

Blade and Kayli both slept for the rest of the day. Kayli slept all night due to her concussion, but Blade did not. He was up all night, unable to sleep. He finally did get to sleep at about 3 in the morning. When he woke up, he got out of bed, only remembering that he had an injured leg after he had rolled over the side of the top bunk. As he landed on his feet he was expecting to feel an explosion of pain in his leg, but felt none. Curious, he checked the area of the wound, and to his surprise and shock, there wasn't even a mark.

'I wonder if Miranda could tell me why...actually, I think its better that I didn't know why my leg healed in a day' Blade thought, perplexed.

'Why am I up so early? I didn't even get any sleep last night! I may get up earlier than the rest of us, but I don't think its even 5 o'clock yet. What's going on...whoa...' He thought, suddenly feeling dizzy. He sat in the chair before he fell, the world seemingly spinning around him.

'Fuck....' He thought, not even able to see straight. But suddenly, it stopped. As quickly as the disorientation had began, it was over.

'Well that was weird...Hopefully I'll feel normal for rest of today'

As blade had hoped, the rest of the day went like every other for him. However, it was pretty boring for Kayli, as she was stuck in bed recovering from her concussion. She had nothing to do except for think. And she had a thought that was constantly bugging her. 'Why cant I get him out of my head?' she wondered, thinking about Blade.

'He's been so nice to me, and asked for nothing in return. But why...'

She spent the rest of the day trying to answer this question, and only came up with one answer: She was falling for Blade. At first she didn't want to accept it. 'I cant be falling for him, not now...not ever. There's no room in the world for love any more.' She thought with the small amount of rational thought she had in her present state.

'Its too dangerous to be that attached to anyone. I'll start to love him, then he'll just die. Like my friends...' She thought, remembering her friends before she met Blade. She shed a tear, remembering the time she spent with her adoptive family. She remembered the unconditional love that she got from them, no matter how tough times were. She thought of how some of them were happy couples, against all odds.

'Maybe...Maybe there is hope. Maybe He and I could be together...'

She let her thoughts wander for the rest of the day. Most of them were about blade, and how to have a working relationship if it came to that. As the day dragged on, her thoughts turned to the past. To before these dark times. She remembered her friends and family. Her old way of life. She began to cry softly, pained by all her loss. She didn't even notice when Blade entered the hut.

"Are you okay?" he asked, sitting on the edge of the bed.

"H-huh?" she said, a bit startled.

"I said: Are you okay?" he said again.

"Yeah...I was just remembering what things were like before the world ended" she said, wiping her tears away.

"Don't think about the past Kayli, just look to the future" Blade said with a smile.

'He's right. I can't make a future if I'm just stuck in the past...Oh, he's perfect. He's smart, kind, strong, and drop dead sexy to boot...' Kayli thought, blushing under her fur. "You're right." she said. They were quiet for a minute.

"So Blade, tell me a bit more about you." Kayli said breaking the silence.

Blade sighed. "I wish I could Kayli, but I don't really know who I am. I never knew my parents, and my foster family never told me anything about them. I only knew them for a few weeks before this happened anyway, and I cant remember anything before that." Blade said.

"I...I'm sorry Blade" Kayli said.

Blade shrugged. "I can accept the past. After all, all we can do is look to the future" he said with a smile. "So tell me about you Kayli" he said.

Kayli thought for a moment. "Well, I'm from a small town in Alaska, I'm 15, adopted, and I love the colour red." She was silent before continuing. "I never knew my dad. He was arrested for murder while my mother was still pregnant with me. My mother died of cancer when I was 6."

Tears began to stream down Kaylis face. Blade sat next to her and put his arm around her shoulders. Kayli wrapped her arms around Blade and cried into his chest.

After about 10 minutes of crying, Kayli looked up into Blades eyes. He was looking down at Kayli, obviously concerned about her.

'He really cares about me...' Kayli thought.' I should tell him how I feel...not now though'

The sun was going down now.

"Kayli, I may not have known you for very long, but you're with us now, and that means you're family. I don't like seeing my family like this. If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know." Blade said.

Kayli thought for a moment.

"Thanks Blade...for everything" Kayli said, hugging him tighter.

They sat together for a little while longer. Blade then noticed that Kayli was quite limp. He took a closer look and discovered that she was asleep. He smiled, and gently pried her arms off of him, and lay her down in the bottom bunk. He then climbed back into the top bunk, and fell asleep.
