Soul Shattered Chap. 5: Troubled

Story by DJ Wolf 92 on SoFurry

, , ,

I walked into an anger-filled house when I got home.

Mom and dad where sitting at the kitchen table, not looking happy. Their arms were crossed over their chest, scowling fiercely at me when I walked in. Their lips set tight against their tan-faded faces; their brows furrowed, creating deep creases in their foreheads.

Oh, this doesn't look good, I mentally groaned to myself, wishing I wasn't here right now.

"Christian Daniele Volar," my parents yelled, their voices thick with anger and frustration "You are in big trouble missy."

I had to stifle a sudden urge to roll my eyes when my dad said missy.  My mind started turning, looking for reasonable explanation. But there wasn't one. There was no need. I "slept" at Darren's house.

"You know you're grounded young lady." My father pointed finger at me. "You're still grounded from the fight you ended two days ago. I know you were trying to do the right thing." He let himself a small smile, but soon that faded just a quickly. "But that didn't give you the right to break someone's nose . . . and leave nasty bruises on his arms."

I flinch. Breaking the guy's noise I did mean--and I took great pleasure in doing it, too.   But the bruises . . . I didn't mean to do. Sometimes I don't realize how much of my added werewolf strength I'm using.

My father's face softened at this. "Look, honey . . . we're proud that you stick up for your friends, but that doesn't mean to have to start a fight."

"Chris, you knew you're grounded, but yet you went Darren's," my mother finally spoke. "Without our permission, by the way, which means you're grounded for two more weeks. Sorry honey."

"We need to know you can behave," Dad piped in. "You know, I've been acting so different sense that wolf attack. Honey, you've been getting more aggressive. You sleep in way past twelve; you stay up to God knows what. You're always missing at certain nights. We don't know that to do with you."

"But we are proud of how well you're doing in school." Mother lightly smiled.

I mentally sighed. This isn't as bad as I thought it'd be.

"Yes, but no more fights, ok?"

           I nodded.

"Ok, now go to your room while we make lunch."

I started heading to the stairs when my dad called me back. "You got this in the mail," he said holding up letter addressed to me.

I took it and tore it open, knowing exactly what it was. "This is a letter from that environmental program. They request that I meet at Illusion, and that I stay there for two and a half weeks. It says its' mandatory. I have to leave at the end of the week; it also excuses me from work and my job. "

Mom and dad stared at me. "You seem too really into this, so I can't see why you can't go. But make sure you get your school work finished. Remember you're still grounded though."

I nodded and headed up stares. Once in my room, I flopped myself on my bed and stared at the blank ceiling. I didn't expect my parents to calm down at all from me heading to Darren's when I knew I was still in trouble, I could feel the wave of anger roll off my parents.

I got off my bed and stared pacing. I needed to think, to think of what the House of Dens would want. I pulled out the letter and stared reading what it really said.

           Dear Alpha and/or Pack,

You will board one of the House of Dens airports on May 27. Please be prepared before leaving your Den at night time. Please notify any or all Pack members of our Pack's departure to Berlin, Germany. We will provide anything that your Pack will need on the plane trips.

Once at the House of Dens, please get settled, but be aware that we will meet at the First hour.

            Translation: One p.m.

We have a very important meeting to discuss. After the meeting, you are free to head to bed and get a good night's sleep. May you enjoy the Blood Moon celebration!

            Yours Eternally,

              The House of Dens

I reviewed the note again. I couldn't seem to get the importance of the meeting. I'm sure it was something to do with those wretched Hunters. Ugh! Damn them to hell.

Well, I guess I can't complain. I get to see a few of my friends at the Celebration. Since meeting screw up my plans with Darren and Tristan, I might be able to take them with me at the House of Dens--wait . . . I can't do that. No humans are allowed at the House of Dens, for fear of them being a Hunter.

Stupid of me for even thinking it! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

              Ugh, I needed some comfort.

Without fully realizing it, I had Shadowed Kari to me, willing him to be with me. He was posed on my bed, his head lying on my pillow. He looked at me, his eyes filled with concern. "Is something wrong?" He got up and pulled me onto my bed, laying my head on his chest.

"Yes," I breathed in his sweet scent, bushing my fingers over his furry chest. I squeezed him closer to me. "I don't know what to do with Darren and Tristan. This next weekend we were going to do out pre-summer vacation."

He wrapped his arms tightly around me. My heart raced in my chest as he held me, giving me the comfort I needed. I looked into his sapphiry eyes--two orbs of hand crafted ice spheres, beautifully touched with fervent blue. Those beautiful eyes made my heart swell with all sorts of emotions, touching even the darkest parts of my soul.

The sky was a dark purple with glittering stars. I stayed in my room the whole day, saying I wasn't hungry when my parents called me down for lunch. I really didn't feel so hungry, not with Kari was here.

At some point, I dosed off in my Mates' arms. I woke up with him stroking my arms, making my skin ablaze where he touched me. I just lay in that sweet embrace that felt like home to me.

My room was cast with dark shadows engulfed by darkness. It made the dark corners even darker--almost pitch black.

"Chris!" Mom called. "Time for dinner!"

             "I'm not--"

             "Go," Kari interrupted.

             "But--"

"Go," he repeated, determination oozed into his voice. "I'll still be here when you get back."

"Ok." Reluctantly, I got up. I pecked Kari a quick kiss on the cheek and head downstairs.
