SNEAK PEEK**

The would-be King of Hyrule had a troubled look on his face, his camel-like snout slightly creased, his long, wing-like ears twitching. His grey-green fur blended in with the grey-green stone of his conveyance as it whirred and rolled along. The Zonai sat cross legged on his ride, guiding it along with slow gentle pushes and pulls on the control lever. It hummed softly as the wheels glided along, having no trouble carrying Rauru's personal effects in a few bags. The bags did not shake held in place by mortar made from pure, calcified light. The roads were not quite so well-worn at present, but it was a smooth ride along the green plains.

Rauru was still reflecting on his words to the chief of the Hateno tribe earlier that day. Had his compliments to their garb come off as patronising or dismissive? He sensed tension on the broad, stubbled face, a furrowing of the eyebrows that showed no melting of their understandably chilly suspicion. The process of diplomacy was a difficult, slow one. But Rauru expected it. After all, the Zonai were beginning the process of turning a loose collection of different tribes and races of all sorts into a cohered kingdom. Empires and kingdoms were not built in a day, and the enlightened beings had no interest in establishing the kingdom of Hyrule by force.

Rauru had peeled off from the rest of his retinue, seeking some solitude to ruminate as he took a more scenic route home. It was worth it.

The landscapes of Hyrule were truly magnificent. This island continent, isolated from the rest of the world by a vast sea to the east, and sheer mountains and thick desert to the west. A diamond in the rough, truly. It was where the Zonai had always sought to make their home, to return to terra firma.

Once he passed through the Dueling Peaks, Rauru would be able to see the continued construction of the castle, right at the heart of Hyrule. Thanks to the assistance of the Zonai's many devices, the Hylians and Gorons that had already been assembled to build the structure were working with far more pace than they ever could have done without.

His destination was near.

Rauru could feel his heart tugging him forward, closer and closer to his beloved Sonia, and all the things he longed to feel with her. Her skin against his fur. Her lips against his snout. Her sweet voice and her kind demeanour.

He longed to dance with her, to sing with her again. Between his diplomatic pilgrimages, and her own, they had not seen each other in weeks. There was much for the royal couple-to-be to catch up on.

A copse of trees lay ahead of him - a bit too narrow and uneven to drive through, and going around it would be time consuming. Alighting from the platform, Rauru waved his right arm, the grey fur and flesh taking on a green luminescence. Ribbons of sinewy light wrapped around the cart and lifted it as though it were a feather. Rauru eased it onto its side to make it easier to guide through the dense mass of trees, and began to walk through.

There was a strange, unexpected scent - a sweet, spiced scent, but not a floral one. It took him a moment to connect it to the scent of baking. Vanilla and sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.

"Curious," he said, to no one in particular - so he thought.

"Curiously pleasant, I hope!"

The voice was light, soft, youthful, and it came from just behind one of Rauru's long ears. The surprise made Rauru wheel around, dropping the cart with a clatter. His third eye nearly opened, instinctually prepared for an attack.

The purple-furred creature lifted their hands up quickly, their yellow feline eyes wide.

"Ah! So sorry! So sorry!" They said with a hurried tone, clearly uninterested in things turning violent. They looked feline, with bright violet fur, along with a hat, cape and coat that were a similar colour, just a slightly darker shade. Bangs of hair of yet another shade hung down from beneath the wide-brimmed, slightly pointed hat. They looked like a travelling performer, or a salesman perhaps. But Rauru could see no sign of any wares. However, that baked-goods scent was definitely coming from him.

"I must apologise as well," Rauru said, rearing back and relaxing his posture. "I suppose I haven't experienced everything Hyrule has to offer..."

"It's a lovely place, isn't it? Treacherous at times, though. You're right to be cautious. I'm something of a newcomer myself!"

"Is that so?" Rauru tilted his head, appraising the curious creature. "Well, you're clearly not a fellow Zonai. Who might you be, and where did you come from?"

"Maffin, at your service." The cat-man bowed with a little flourish. "An honour to make your acquaintance, your Majesty."

"Oh?" Rauru baulked. It was strange being referred to that way... "You've heard of me, then!"

"And your incredible project. Someone like you is exactly what this place needs. Someone to tame the lawlessness and bring a little bit of structure and order. That's what we all crave, really, isn't it? How's that all going?"

"Oh, quite slowly, of course." Rauru glanced at his cart - his luggage was still attached to the cart. The glue was holding.

"I hope I'm not keeping you from anything," Maffin said, slinking closer. "Are you in a hurry?"

"Well, not particularly..." Rauru lied. He was very eager to see his wife again. But even so, he felt a slight desire to be polite. It was good to establish a good impression on everyone he met - for the sake of the kingdom.

Curiously, as Maffin got closer to Rauru, the scent did not grow stronger, or more cloying. It remained subtle and pleasant.

Maffin was just a little over half Rauru's height - small and lithe. He also noted that underneath the long coat was a tight little vest, and...

A significant amount of his lower midriff was bared, just down to his trousers which barely hung on his hips. It left less to the imagination than most Hylian's garb.

Rauru felt a little warm. His tongue licked the inside of his mouth, unbidden and unconscious.
